  Hi! I'd like to run this command: watch -n 1 tail -n 200 log/site_dev.log | grep Doctrine But it does not run, because "I think" that the grep tries to run on the watch instead of the tail... Is there a way to do something like watch -n 1 (tail -n 200 log/site_dev.log | grep Doctrine) Thanks a lot!

• What could I leave running on a linux server locally when all access is remote?

  I'va remote linux debian server that 99.9% of the time I access via ssh remotely. However I was aware that the local terminal is sitting there with a logon prompt. Is there anything I could change this to, or log in and run locally and safely leave running? Physical access to the server is limited to me but a secure situation would be preferable. Thanks.. Ian

  I have used Visio to map out my network structure, and have used the export function to create an HTML page that is searchable by IP, hostname etc. This is a really nice tool and I use it often. However, I would like for users who do not use Internet Explorer to be able to use the search features. What are some alternatives to Visio here? I want to draw a network diagram where objects are searchable. Thanks!

• Logging commands executed by remote shell scripts

  I've noticed that when running a script that connects to a number of our servers (to essentially run batch commands) that the commands aren't logged in the user's .sh_history or .bash_history files. Is there a place where this is logged (assuming the script itself isn't doing the logging and I'm not tee'ing the output anywhere)? I'm talking specifically about AIX, but I would assume this question applies to all the *nix flavors. Thanks!

  Something is setting (the incorrect) time on our network- though I don't know what it is (since we have approx 40 servers). We run on a windows network, with AD etc. Not sure where to even begin to start looking- as far as I know, we don't run an NTP server in house. Any advice? Thanks

  I've disabled the web server on Snow Leopard, and I'm using an emulated Ubuntu with Lighttpd web server. In order to access to the web pages I need to specify the ip of the emulated machine. However I now need to associated such ip with "localhost" in Leopard environment. When I type localhost in Leopard I actually want to visit the localhost on the Ubuntu machine. Do I need apache on leopard to make the forward or can I change network settings in Leopard or what ? thanks

Also the only answer there is not useful. • How could I fix WICD? it's not longer finding networks

  I'm on backtrack5 R2, and I was working fine, the problem is recently the WICD is no longer finding networks, but I can still connect to the networks I had, I've tried with dpkg-reconfigure wicd and after restart not noticeable change is done, how can I connect new networks or reconfigure again the manager?? When I search networks with airomon-ng mon0 I can find some but with the WICD not, thanks!!

• Trimming video from it's end using FFMpeg or Mencoder

  I have pack of .avi files that needs to be trimmed by 5 last seconds. I'm doing it using batch processing and naturally, they all have different length so I can't set a trim from the beginning. I know FFMpeg has commands -t and -ss as well as Mencoder has -endpos and -ss, but in my case I don't know if I can use them this way.   I have this MacBook Pro that has intermittent problems connecting to my Wifi network. Sometimes it helps to disable/re-enable airport and sometimes I have to restart the computer to get my network running again. Has anyone experienced this? And is there a command I can run that would do the same as I do when I restart the computer (short of actually restarting it, obviously) or at least a command that restarts the airport service?   I am trying to work with a legacy application in SQL Server which at some point does the following query SELECT serverproperty('EngineEdition') as sqledition The server replies with 2 (which is the correct edition), but the application closes since the app demands to be run over SQL Server Express which is 4. We don't have access to the code and the developer is long gone. Is there a way to configure SQL Server so that when this query is received it simply returns 4 and not the value of the property?
