You might assume that if you have root access to an Oracle Solaris zone, you'd be able to change the root's IP address. If so, you'd proceed along these lines ...
First, you'd log in:
root@global_zone:~# zlogin user-zone
Then you'd remove the IP interface:
root@user-zone:~# ipadm delete-ip vnic0
Next, you'd create a new IP interface:
root@user-zone:~# ipadm create-ip vnic0
Then you'd assign the IP interface a new IP address (10.0.0.10):
root@user-zone:~# ipadm create-addr -a local=10.0.0.10/24 vnic0/v4
ipadm: cannot create address: Permission denied
Why would that happen? Here are some potential reasons:
You're in the wrong zone
Nobody bothered to tell you that you were fired last week.
The sysadmin for the global zone (probably your ex-girlfriend) enabled link protection mode on the zone with this sweet little command:
root@global_zone:~# dladm set-linkprop -p \
protection=mac-nospoof,restricted,ip-nospoof vnic0
How'd your ex-girlfriend learn to do that? By reading this article:
Securing a Cloud-Based Data Center with Oracle Solaris 11
by Orgad Kimchi, Ron Larson, and Richard Friedman
When you build a private cloud, you need to protect sensitive data not only while it's in storage, but also during transmission between servers and clients, and when it's being used by an application. When a project is completed, the cloud must securely delete sensitive data and make sure the original data is kept secure. These are just some of the many security precautions a sysadmin needs to take to secure data in a cloud infrastructure. Orgad, Ron, and Richard and explain the rest and show you how to employ the security features in Oracle Solaris 11 to protect your cloud infrastructure. Part 2 of a three-part article on cloud deployments that use the Oracle Solaris Remote Lab as a case study.

Oracle Linux is not just free to download, use and distribute, it also has a very helpful community around it.
If you are new to Oracle Linux and you haven't checked out our forums yet, I highly recommend doing so right away — the friendliness and level of expertise in there is outstanding! We have a number of regulars in there that really "know their stuff" and just following the ongoing discussions is educating.

There are 3 BPM Process Accelerator Packs available now (Accelerator Packs Available ) as discssed in my earlier post: https://blogs.oracle.com/enterprisearchitecture/entry/bpm_process_accelerator_packs
There is a new and very useful white paper on BPM/Accelerator best practices at: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/bpm/learnmore/processaccelbestpracticeswhitepaper-1708910.pdf
Thought I'd post that as the topic is getting more and more attention in various discussions I have been having.

It took a little while because of upgrades to My Oracle Support, but the pre-upgrade script for Oracle Database 11.2.0.3 is now available for download. If you want the latest pre-upgrade script for any supported version of the database, simply go to MOS Note 884522.1 and download the script that corresponds to your destination release. This is a lot easier than downloading the entire kit in order to obtain the script!
my ubuntu version is 12.04, and when cat /proc/version, it shows
Linux version 3.2.0-23-generic (buildd@crested) (gcc version 4.6.3 (Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3-1ubuntu4) ) #36-Ubuntu SMP Tue Apr 10 20:39:51 UTC 2012

When to install oracle jdk over linux, it presents with two options x86 and x64. Here it presents with x86_64. Which version should I choose and what the meaning behind x86_64 and x64.
Oracle’s new ADR with command interface shows promise for database administrators who like to script their own solution for quickly scraping the alert log and automatically looking for errors.
I have used Visio 2007 in the past to reverse engineer Oracle databases to get a flow scheme. I believe all Office 2007 products were x86 as well which is where I suspect my issue currently lies. I have since upgraded to Visio 2010 x64 and when I go to reverse engineer something from Oracle it shows up under Installed Visio Drivers but I can't seem to create a data source using it. My assumption here is it is because Oracle doesn't play nicely with x64 and with Visio being compiled as x64 I don't even get the option to use it.
Has anyone done this with Visio 2010 x64 and Oracle yet? Or are there other tools you would recommend to reverse engineer and get a model such as the one generated by Visio?
When a SQL expert moves from Oracle to SQL Server, he can spot obvious strengths and weaknesses in the product that are too familiar to be apparent to the SQL Server DBA. Jonathan Lewis is one such expert: In this article he records his train of thought whilst investigating the mechanics of the SQL Server database engine. The result makes interesting reading.
