At times I often want to know what is happening inside my SQL Servers, there are of course a multitude of ways I could "peek" into the activity that has been happening, Sometimes I just need to get a quick summary of those facts, maybe just to know if anything unusal has happened I'm not yet aware of, an easy way I can do that is to query the DMV sys.dm_os_performance_counters, As t here are tons of blog posts already out there on using the data from this DMV, I'm not going to focus...(read more)

  • Building an E-Commerce Website? 7 Tips For Finding Your Ideal Technology Teacher

Like many adults, until recently, I'd never contemplated building a website and learning online technology to create an e-business. Still, the growth of the world-wide-web and my location in an area where good-paying jobs are hard to find forced me to re-evaluate whether I could master enough website technology to build a blog and do business online. The one thing I did know was that a good teacher or consultant could make the difference between success and failure.

  • SEO and suboptimal source code

    - by legoblock
I have a wordpress website for my business and its success will be largely dependent on google ranking. The structure of the theme I'm using is designed for a blog, not for a business website. That means the source code is quite ugly-looking. My question is, does it affect SEO at all? I know that it can affect SEO somehow by the page taking longer than needed to load, but apart from that, will there be any penalizing for having a suboptimal or confusing html structure? Thanks

  • Name for this antipattern? Fields as local variables

    - by JSB????
In some code I'm reviewing, I'm seeing stuff that's the moral equivalent of the following: public class Foo { private Bar bar; public MethodA() { bar = new Bar(); bar.A(); bar = null; } public MethodB() { bar = new Bar(); bar.B(); bar = null; } } The field bar here is logically a local variable, as its value is never intended to persist across method calls. However, since many of the methods in Foo need an object of type Bar, the original code author has just made a field of type Bar. This is obviously bad, right? Is there a name for this antipattern?

  • Is it a good practice by commenting with owner name? [closed]

    - by fifth
Possible Duplicate: How do you keep track of the authors of code? Here's several scenarios which may comment with owner name: bug fixing, i.e. // fixed bug 123 by xxx, solution is ... ... fixme/todo tags, i.e. // TODO: .... by xxx. hacks, i.e. // HACK! ... by xxx For case #2, please refer to Comment Tags The obvious advantage is that we can ease tracking by names. The downside is the risk of abuse. Actually my previous company allowed this way of commenting style, but current employer completely disallows names appearing in code. In my opinion, I would vote for discreetly commenting with author names. I'm open to hear from you if this commenting style is good or bad. Thanks.

  • Windows Azure Active Directory: Should You Use It?

Computerworld offers a full review of the developer preview version of WAAD. Jonathan Hassell, the review's author, effectively gave the service a grade of incomplete. While you can't expect something that's effectively a beta to include everything that will be in the final version, WAAD presented a number of annoying problems that definitely need fixing before it can attract a wide share of the market. First, you can't even try out the service unless you sign up for a trial of Office 365, Microsoft's cloud Office suite. The software giant does plan to let you bring up an instance of WAAD as...

  • How to use slider scripts given by websites? [closed]

    - by Payo
There are many slider scripts and codes being given for free like the parallax sliders. Everything is given - the markup, CSS and JavaScript. As I am not a professional in these fields but do have some coding knowledge, how do I use these tutorials? They are not very explicit in the steps involved in implementing them to a site/blog. Is there any site that gives in-depth detail or if someone would like to help me over here?
