  • Record audio via MediaRecorder

    - by Isuru Madusanka
    I am trying to record audio by MediaRecorder, and I get an error, I tried to change everything and nothing works. Last two hours I try to find the error, I used Log class too and I found out that error occurred when it call recorder.start() method. What could be the problem? public class AudioRecorderActivity extends Activity { MediaRecorder recorder; File audioFile = null; private static final String TAG = "AudioRecorderActivity"; private View startButton; private View stopButton; /** Called when the activity is first created. */ @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); startButton = findViewById(R.id.start); stopButton = findViewById(R.id.stop); setContentView(R.layout.main); } public void startRecording(View view) throws IOException{ startButton.setEnabled(false); stopButton.setEnabled(true); File sampleDir = Environment.getExternalStorageDirectory(); try{ audioFile = File.createTempFile("sound", ".3gp", sampleDir); }catch(IOException e){ Toast.makeText(getApplicationContext(), "SD Card Access Error", Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); Log.e(TAG, "Sdcard access error"); return; } recorder = new MediaRecorder(); recorder.setAudioSource(MediaRecorder.AudioSource.MIC); recorder.setOutputFormat(MediaRecorder.OutputFormat.THREE_GPP); recorder.setAudioEncoder(MediaRecorder.AudioEncoder.AMR_NB); recorder.setAudioEncodingBitRate(16); recorder.setAudioSamplingRate(44100); recorder.setOutputFile(audioFile.getAbsolutePath()); recorder.prepare(); recorder.start(); } public void stopRecording(View view){ startButton.setEnabled(true); stopButton.setEnabled(false); recorder.stop(); recorder.release(); addRecordingToMediaLibrary(); } protected void addRecordingToMediaLibrary(){ ContentValues values = new ContentValues(4); long current = System.currentTimeMillis(); values.put(MediaStore.Audio.Media.TITLE, "audio" + audioFile.getName()); values.put(MediaStore.Audio.Media.DATE_ADDED, (int)(current/1000)); values.put(MediaStore.Audio.Media.MIME_TYPE, "audio/3gpp"); values.put(MediaStore.Audio.Media.DATA, audioFile.getAbsolutePath()); ContentResolver contentResolver = getContentResolver(); Uri base = MediaStore.Audio.Media.EXTERNAL_CONTENT_URI; Uri newUri = contentResolver.insert(base, values); sendBroadcast(new Intent(Intent.ACTION_MEDIA_SCANNER_SCAN_FILE, newUri)); Toast.makeText(this, "Added File" + newUri, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show(); } } And here is the xml layout. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <RelativeLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/RelativeLayout1" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:orientation="vertical" > <Button android:id="@+id/start" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_alignParentTop="true" android:layout_centerHorizontal="true" android:layout_marginTop="146dp" android:onClick="startRecording" android:text="Start Recording" /> <Button android:id="@+id/stop" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_alignLeft="@+id/start" android:layout_below="@+id/start" android:layout_marginTop="41dp" android:enabled="false" android:onClick="stopRecording" android:text="Stop Recording" /> </RelativeLayout> And I added permission to AndroidManifest file. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <manifest xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" package="in.isuru.audiorecorder" android:versionCode="1" android:versionName="1.0" > <uses-sdk android:minSdkVersion="8" /> <application android:icon="@drawable/ic_launcher" android:label="@string/app_name" > <activity android:name=".AudioRecorderActivity" android:label="@string/app_name" > <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.MAIN" /> <category android:name="android.intent.category.LAUNCHER" /> </intent-filter> </activity> </application> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.WRITE_EXTERNAL_STORAGE"/> <uses-permission android:name="android.permission.RECORD_AUDIO" /> </manifest> I need to record high quality audio.   • Unicode data from NSData to NSString

    - by Jeff
So if I have NSData from an HTTP request, then I do something like this: NSString *test = [[NSString alloc] initWithData:data encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding]; This will result in null if the data contains weird unicode data (title is from reddit): {"title":"click..¦¦me..and..then¦¦________ ¦¦check¦¦_.your...¦¦.__...¦¦____ ¦¦....¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦....¦¦____ ¦¦¦¦¦¦....¦¦¦¦¦¦....¦¦¦¦¦¦____ ¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦____ ....¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦¦______ ........¦¦..._recently....¦¦________ ....¦¦....viewed....links....¦¦_____"}, How would I convert the data to a string? Ideally, it would best if the string wasn't null so I could parse it as JSON, but even a lossy conversion is fine with me in these cases. I'm not familiar with unicode (naive American I am), so any enlightenment about that would be a nice bonus :)

  • Search for a pattern in a list of strings - Python

    - by Holtz
I have a list of strings containing filenames such as, file_names = ['filei.txt','filej.txt','filek.txt','file2i.txt','file2j.txt','file2k.txt','file3i.txt','file3j.txt','file3k.txt'] I then remove the .txt extension using: extension = os.path.commonprefix([n[::-1] for n in file_names])[::-1] file_names_strip = [n[:-len(extension)] for n in file_names] And then return the last character of each string in the list file_names_strip: h = [n[-1:] for n in file_names_strip] Which gives h = ['i', 'j', 'k', 'i', 'j', 'k', 'i', 'j', 'k'] How can i test for a pattern of strings in h? So if i,j,k occur sequentially it would return True and False if not. I need to know this because not all file names are formatted like they are in file_names. So: test_ijk_pattern(h) = True no_pattern = ['1','2','3','1','2','3','1','2','3'] test_ijk_pattern(no_pattern) = False

  • MySQL import in phpmyadmin (CSV) chokes on quotes

    - by Andrew Swift
I am trying to import a .csv file into a MySQL table via phpMyAdmin. The .csv file is separated by pipes, formated like this: data|d'ata|d'a"ta|dat"a| data|"da"ta|data|da't'a| dat'a|data|da"ta"|da'ta| The data contains quotes. I have no control over the format in which I recieve the data -- it is generated by a third party. The problem comes when there is a | followed by a double quote. I always get an "invalid field count in CSV input on line N" error. I am uploading the file from the import page, using Latin1, CSV, terminated by |, separated by ". I would like to just change the "enclosed by" character, but I keep getting "Invalid parameter for CSV import: Fields enclosed by". I have tried various characters with no success. How can I tell MySQL to accept this format in phpMyAdmin? Setting up these tables is the first step in writing a program that will use uploaded gzipped .csv files to maintain the catalog of an e-commerce site.

  • Communication between (Desktop/Smartphone) Application and Web Application

    - by erlord
Hi all I wonder what is the commonly used method and protocol for a, say, smartphone application to send its data to a web application (where these data should be proceeded and stored). My naive beginner's approach would be something like this: From my smartphone app, use a framework encoding my data object into a json object Send this object via http to a listener addressed by a dedicated URL On the server side, use a JSON parser and store it via ORM etc. into a database Questions: Is this too naive? 2a. If yes: What is the appropiate way to tackle this workflow? 2b. If no: What frameworks to use in JAVA for serializing/deserializing to/from JSON objects? Any example for a json listener in the web? Tutorial for a http-protocol based Java listener? Thanks for all answers and suggestions in advance. Regs Me

  • Transform PDF to HTML, keep layout

    - by Tgr
What methods are there to transform a PDF to HTML? It could be anything - online service, software, library. (Opensource preferred. In the last case, php or python would be preferred.) It has to keep the original layout (including page numbers, footnotes and such), keep the images (combining them to one single background image per page is acceptable) and keep the links. It should preferably output valid XHTML and clean up PDF features such as ligatures, but if there is some post-processing required, I can live with that. Something with a clean, relatively semantic HTML output would be great. The closest one I found was zamzar.org, but it choked on links. (Also, the HTML output is an ugly heap of absolutely positioned divs and needs post-processing because of encoding problems.)

  • Flash crash on long JSON load time

    - by MooCow
I have a Flex program that gets a JSON array from a PHP script. The PHP script doesn't contain just a simple JSON array but it grabs data from Activecollab and do some work on the data before encoding the data. The first test involve a small JSON array that took a short time to encode by PHP. However, when I try to scale up the test, the Flash movie will crash trying to load the JSON data from PHP. There's no code difference between the tests, just the amount of data and amount of time it takes PHP to encode. Am I looking at a memory problem or a time out problem?

  • VB.net Need Text Box to Only Accept Numbers

    - by Rico Jackson
I'm fairly new to VB.net (self taught) and was just wondering if someone out there could help me out with some code. I'm not trying to do anything to invovled, just have a textbox that takes numeric value from 1 to 10. I don't want it to take a string or any number above 10. If some types a word or character an error message will appear, telling them to enter a valid number. This is what I have, obviously it's not great as I am having problems. Thanks again to anyone who can help. If TxtBox.Text > 10 Then MessageBox.Show("Please Enter a Number from 1 to 10") TxtBox.Focus() ElseIf TxtBox.Text < 10 Then MessageBox.Show("Thank You, your rating was " & TxtBox.Text) Total = Total + 1 ElseIf IsNumeric(TxtBox.Text) Then MessageBox.Show("Thank you, your rating was " & ValueTxtBox.Text) End If ValueTxtBox.Clear() ValueTxtBox.Focus()

  • Why to store username and password in Keychain in iPhone app

    - by Suriya
I have worked with NSUserDefault but this keychain concept is totally new for me. I have tried looking for similar Questions but couldn't find the exact reason to do so. What I have done: I already know how to store data in NSUserDefault. and also the reason why do we need to store it. Regarding Keychain I just know that storing in keychain stores the data with some extra security by encoding the original text while NSUserDefault stores the data as plain text. Is this the only reason for storing the data in keychain?

  • Issues rendering image in flash via Context.Response.Write C# asp.

    - by Justin
I am having an issue rendering images in flash via a character array. I am sending it from a webhandler via Context.Response.Write as a Base64CharacterArray. It functions 100% properly in a windows environment, however when using a Mac the image data is not retrieved correctly causing the image to appear incorrectly. It does not affect the data, however as it is rendered properly in a player which accesses the data via a webservice. I am at the end of my rope on this one. Anything will help. You can find an example at the following url http://www.discoverirelandtoday.com/photoalbum/Public/Main.aspx Thanks

  • How to skip extra lines before the header of a tab delimited delimited file in R

    - by Michael Dunn
The software I am using produces log files with a variable number of lines of summary information followed by lots of tab delimited data. I am trying to write a function that will read the data from these log files into a data frame ignoring the summary information. The summary information never contains a tab, so the following function works: read.parameters <- function(file.name, ...){ lines <- scan("tmp.log", what="character", sep="\n") first.line <- min(grep("\\t", lines)) return(read.delim(file.name, skip=first.line-1, ...)) } However, these logfiles are quite big, and so reading the file twice is very slow. Surely there is a better way?

  • Automatically Word-Wrapping Text To A Print Page?

    - by sooprise
I have some code that prints a string, but if the string is say: "Blah blah blah"... and there are no line breaks, the text occupies a single line. I would like to be able to shape the string so it word wraps to the dimensions of the paper. private void PrintIt(){ PrintDocument document = new PrintDocument(); document.PrintPage += (sender, e) => Document_PrintText(e, inputString); document.Print(); } static private void Document_PrintText(PrintPageEventArgs e, string inputString) { e.Graphics.DrawString(inputString, new Font("Courier New", 12), Brushes.Black, 0, 0); } I suppose I could figure out the length of a character, and wrap the text manually, but if there is a built in way to do this, I'd rather do that. Thanks!

  • Why does this regular expression fail?

    - by Stephen
I have a password validation script in PHP that checks a few different regular expressions, and throws a unique error message depending on which one fails. Here is an array of the regular expressions and the error messages that are thrown if the match fails: array( 'rule1' => array( '/^.*[\d].*$/i', 'Password must contain at least one number.' ), 'rule2' => array( '/^.*[a-z].*$/i', 'Password must contain at least one lowercase letter' ), 'rule3' => array( '/^.*[A-Z].*$/i', 'Password must contain at least one uppercase letter' ), 'rule4' => array( '/^.*[~!@#$%^&*()_+=].*$/i', 'Password must contain at least one special character [~!@#$%^&*()_+=]' ) ); For some reason, no matter what I pass through the validation, the "Special Characters" rule fails. I'm guessing it's a problem with the expression. If there's a better (or correct) way to write these expressions, I'm all ears!

  • Compressing a hex string in Ruby/Rails

    - by PreciousBodilyFluids
I'm using MongoDB as a backend for a Rails app I'm building. Mongo, by default, generates 24-character hexadecimal ids for its records to make sharding easier, so my URLs wind up looking like: example.com/companies/4b3fc1400de0690bf2000001/employees/4b3ea6e30de0691552000001 Which is not very pretty. I'd like to stick to the Rails url conventions, but also leave these ids as they are in the database. I think a happy compromise would be to compress these hex ids to shorter collections using more characters, so they'd look something like: example.com/companies/3ewqkvr5nj/employees/9srbsjlb2r Then in my controller I'd reverse the compression, get the original hex id and use that to look up the record. My question is, what's the best way to convert these ids back and forth? I'd of course want them to be as short as possible, but also url-safe and simple to convert. Thanks!

  • Converting datetime.ctime() values to Unicode

    - by Malcolm
I would like to convert datetime.ctime() values to Unicode. Using Python 2.6.4 running under Windows I can set my locale to Spanish like below: import locale locale.setlocale(locale.LC_ALL, 'esp' ) Then I can pass %a, %A, %b, and %B to ctime() to get day and month names and abbreviations. import datetime dateValue = datetime.date( 2010, 5, 15 ) dayName = dateValue.strftime( '%A' ) dayName 's\xe1bado' How do I convert the 's\xe1bado' value to Unicode? Specifically what encoding do I use? I'm thinking I might do something like the following, but I'm not sure this is the right approach. codePage = locale.getdefaultlocale()[ 1 ] dayNameUnicode = unicode( dayName, codePage ) dayNameUnicode u's\xe1bado' Malcolm

  • ASP.NET JavaScript File Embeded In DLL With GZIP

    - by Lee Hesselden
We have several fairly large JavaScript files embedded into a single script resources DLL. This is then consumed by multiple projects by way of a reference and page includes via the ASP.NET script manager. This keeps things nice and neat within our ASP.NET pages and requires very little work to integrate into new projects. The problem is that some of these script files are quite larger (approx 100KB) and take time to download. By running minify on them before embedding this is reduced down a lot (around 70KB) but not enough. What we would like to do is GZIP the files before they are embedded. However, just gzipping the files causes syntax errors as the content is not unzipped. There is a content type "text/javascript" applied in AssemblyInfo when the resource is embedded but we can't find a way to specify content-encoding. Is there any way to make this work without having to write a httpmodule/handler (which would mean changing the config for all consuming projects)?

  • What xsd will let an element have itself as a sub element infinitely?

Like below. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <xs:schema attributeFormDefault="unqualified" elementFormDefault="qualified" xmlns:xs="http://www.w3.org/2001/XMLSchema"> <xs:element name="SampleXml"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="Items"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element maxOccurs="unbounded" name="Item"> <xs:complexType mixed="true"> <xs:sequence minOccurs="0"> <xs:element name="Items"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element maxOccurs="unbounded" name="Item"> <xs:complexType mixed="true"> <xs:sequence minOccurs="0"> <xs:element name="Items"> <xs:complexType> <xs:sequence> <xs:element name="Item"> <xs:complexType> <xs:simpleContent> <xs:extension base="xs:string"> <xs:attribute name="name" type="xs:string" use="required" /> <xs:attribute name="type" type="xs:string" use="required" /> </xs:extension> </xs:simpleContent> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> </xs:sequence> <xs:attribute name="name" type="xs:string" use="required" /> <xs:attribute name="type" type="xs:string" use="required" /> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> </xs:sequence> <xs:attribute name="name" type="xs:string" use="required" /> <xs:attribute name="type" type="xs:string" use="required" /> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> </xs:sequence> </xs:complexType> </xs:element> </xs:schema>

  • Splitting a double vector into equal parts

    - by Cosmin
Greetings, Any input on a way to divide a std::vector into two equal parts ? I need to find the smallest possible difference between |part1 - part2|. This is how I'm doing it now, but from what you can probably tell it will yield a non-optimal split in some cases. auto mid = std::find_if(prim, ultim, [&](double temp) -> bool { if(tempsum >= sum) return true; tempsum += temp; sum -= temp; return false; }); The vector is sorted, highest to lowest, values can indeed appear twice. I'm not expecting part1 and part2 to have the same numbers of elements, but sum(part1) should be as close as possible to sum(part2) For example if we would have { 2.4, 0.12, 1.26, 0.51, 0.70 }, the best split would be { 2.4, 0.12 } and { 1.26, 0.51, 0.70 }. If it helps, I'm trying to achieve the splitting algorithm for the Shannon Fano encoding. Any input is appreciated, thanks!
