I am looking for free and/or open source requirements management tools. Does anyone have any experience with these tools and can recommend one or two? Thanks.
i know that you can create your own design patterns and save them for later use.
but i wonder if there are free templates you can download and use, eg. factory, singleton and so on.
then you dont have to recreate/copy-paste and you will have accurate patterns.

In an effort to spark some discussion and to find interesting people that I didn't know about, is there anybody around the software industry that you really admire? Perhaps admire is the wrong choice of word, but I'm sure there is somebody out there that has impacted you in a minor way.
What did you learn from this individual that defines what you try to achieve today?
hi,
I'm considering to use google web toolkit to develop my web application. It is not clear if the service is completely free for web storage under 500 mb.
Can I use google web toolkit to develop my own app, and use my own server for it ? Am I going to have some issues if I do this ?
Could you give me some feedback ?
Thanks
pdb and winpdb both seem to be missing this essential (to me) feature. I saw something suggesting WingIDE has it but I'd prefer a solution that is free, and if I do have to pay, I'd prefer to pay for something that is better than Wing.
I'm going to make a movie site scraping library that's free and open source.
I want to use HTMLAgilityPack to easily parse web information from HTML source code, but I'm not sure if I legally can? Can I use this library in this way?
Thank you.
Hi,
what is the best free/open source WinForms "progress bar" control?
(i.e. want a better looking control than the default one in VS2008, and one that has a nice continuous bar)
Title says it all. My app code is starting to get unmanageable and I want to start source control, primarily because I need to branch my code.
What are some good systems that you have used in the past and what would you recommend to me.
Requirements:
Must be free
Must integrate with eclipse
Must work well with android development plugin
I have a client server application with multi-threading. The server side is failing with a std::list getting corrupted resulting in a SEGV. I suspect that there is some kind of cross thread timing issue going on where the two threads are updating the std::list at the same time and causing it to be corrupted.
Please suggest free tools to track this down or strategies that might be helpful.
Is there free and good line-level profiler for PHP? I'm using xdebug and it's relatively good but it gives me function level output and sometimes it's hard to see where exactly all the time spent in the function goes.
While i'm sure i can write a CRON to do this and some how open the ports on a network hd in my house, to be honest i'd rather spend a bit of money on some good software with a nice visual interface!
are there any such all-in-one server backup systems?
nightly backups of the MYSQL db
weekly backups of entire site (images etc)
my server is a VPS hosted by https://www.memset.com.
Hi everybody
What is best software for creating models , textures etc... for iphone development.
From simplest to more complex programs.
First thing that comes to my mind is blender , but I'm curious what everybody else is using and their opinions.
This is not "programming" related as much as it is "software engineering" related.
I am required to produce an implementation for additional functionality to a complete system. All I am armed with is knowledge of the existing architecture and a functional spec with visual requirements, user stories and use cases. Is there a standardised way to go about this? I suck at documentation.
Is there any open source user-guide type creation software available? Or is it best to use wiki type systems? We want to be able to create user guides on the fly through a web front end and accessible on the net. Or is this best achieved using Wikis?
Thanks
Do you know any open source software that uses Orient DB? Or have you used that product yourself? Any experiences to share?
I have recently looked into Orient DB, and it has nice and feature interesting feature set (fast, embeddable in Java, simple API) but it seems that it is not widely used. Is it just because the Orient DB is a new player on the field?
I have read alot about Software Transactional Memory, especially in relaiton to Haskell but I am trying to figure how it is different from database transactions? Are there some advantages I do not understand with STM?
I want to develope and big project but I really don't know what is the best way to model my project. do I even need to model my project?
What are the most practical OOP software modeling methods in real world projects? what are the bests one and most useful ones?
please guide on this.
I've been looking around....
MongoDB seems to require a commercial license. http://www.mongodb.org/display/DOCS/Licensing
RavenDB has quite a costly scheme. http://ravendb.net/licensing
CouchDB, seems to be free for commercial use? But requires Apache, which is a bit of a pain.
Are there any other good options for .NET?
I'm trying to build a wedding-stuff related directory.
I basically have a whole load of links that are sorted by 2 categories: ZIP code and type of link.
Also I need the users to have the ability to rate links and leave comments.
What is the best software solution to build this?
What key reasons for software developers can you list so they will decide to make their products as open source (I don't mean products just for fun but real products)?
Joel Spolsky repeats over and over that today, knowing a bit of anthropology can be very useful for a programer because much of what's being created is social software.
How can someone that already knows the computer science learn the anthropology needed to know how human beings works? Any books? Any recorded lectures?
