  • How does copyrights apply to source code header files?

    - by Jim McKeeth
It seems I heard that header files are not considered copyrightable since they can only be written one way (like a list of ingredients or facts). So a header file for a specific DLL will always look the same when written in a given programming language. Unfortunately I can't find any resources to back this up. So if a vendor provides an SDK with headers in one programming language, and then those headers are translated into another programming language by a third party. Does the 3rd party need permission from the vendor to provide the header translation? Who owns the copyright on the translation? Isn't it a derivative work still owned by the vendor, or is there no copyright, like a list of ingredients? Does this vary from jurisdiction to jurisdiction?

  • How to walk through two files simultaneously in Perl?

    - by Alex Reynolds
I have two text files that contain columnar data of the variety position-value. Here is an example of the first file (file A): 100 1 101 1 102 0 103 2 104 1 ... Here is an example of the second file (B): 20 0 21 0 ... 100 2 101 1 192 3 193 1 ... Instead of reading one of the two files into a hash table, which is prohibitive due to memory constraints, what I would like to do is walk through two files simultaneously, in a stepwise fashion. What this means is that I would like to stream through lines of either A or B and compare position values. If the two positions are equal, then I perform a calculation on the values associated with that position. Otherwise, if the positions are not equal, I move through lines of file A or file B until the positions are equal (when I again perform my calculation) or I reach EOF of both files. Is there a way to do this in Perl?

  • Python: undefined reference to `_imp __Py_InitModule4'

    - by Mark
    I'm trying to do a debug build of the Rabbyt library using mingw's gcc to run with my MSVC built python26_d.. I got a lot of undefined references which caused me to create libpython26_d.a, however one of the undefined references remains. Googling gives me: http://www.techlists.org/archives/programming/pythonlist/2003-03/msg01035.shtml But -rdynamic doesn't help. e:\MinGW/bin\gcc.exe -mno-cygwin -mdll -O -Wall -g -IE:\code\python\python\py26\ include -IE:\code\python\python\py26\PC -c rabbyt/rabbyt._rabbyt.c -o build\temp .win32-2.6-pydebug\Debug\rabbyt\rabbyt._rabbyt.o -O3 -fno-strict-aliasing rabbyt/rabbyt._rabbyt.c:1351: warning: '__Pyx_SetItemInt' defined but not used writing build\temp.win32-2.6-pydebug\Debug\rabbyt\_rabbyt_d.def e:\MinGW/bin\gcc.exe -mno-cygwin -shared -g build\temp.win32-2.6-pydebug\Debug\r abbyt\rabbyt._rabbyt.o build\temp.win32-2.6-pydebug\Debug\rabbyt\_rabbyt_d.def - LE:\code\python\python\py26\libs -LE:\code\python\python\py26\PCbuild -lopengl32 -lglu32 -lpython26_d -lmsvcr90 -o build\lib.win32-2.6-pydebug\rabbyt\_rabbyt_d. pyd build\temp.win32-2.6-pydebug\Debug\rabbyt\rabbyt._rabbyt.o: In function `init_ra bbyt': E:/code/python/rabbyt/rabbyt/rabbyt._rabbyt.c:1121: undefined reference to `_imp __Py_InitModule4'

  • Should tests be in the same ruby file or in separeted ruby files?

    - by Junior Mayhé
    While using Selenium and Ruby to do some functional tests, I am worried with the performance. So is it better to add all test methods in the same ruby file, or I should put each one in separated code files? Below a sample with all tests in the same file: # encoding: utf-8 require "selenium-webdriver" require "test/unit" class Tests < Test::Unit::TestCase def setup @driver = Selenium::WebDriver.for :firefox @base_url = "http://mysite" @driver.manage.timeouts.implicit_wait = 30 @verification_errors = [] @wait = Selenium::WebDriver::Wait.new :timeout => 10 end def teardown @driver.quit assert_equal [], @verification_errors end def element_present?(how, what) @driver.find_element(how, what) true rescue Selenium::WebDriver::Error::NoSuchElementError false end def verify(&blk) yield rescue Test::Unit::AssertionFailedError => ex @verification_errors << ex end def test_1 @driver.get(@base_url + "/") # a huge test here end def test_2 @driver.get(@base_url + "/") # a huge test here end def test_3 @driver.get(@base_url + "/") # a huge test here end def test_4 @driver.get(@base_url + "/") # a huge test here end def test_5 @driver.get(@base_url + "/") # a huge test here end end

  • Any downsides to UPX-ing my 32-bit Python 2.6.4 development environment EXE/PYD/DLL files?

    - by Malcolm
Are there any downsides to UPX-ing my 32-bit Python 2.6.4 development environment EXE/PYD/DLL files? The reason I'm asking is that I frequently use a custom PY2EXE script that UPX's copies of these files on every build. Yes, I could get fancy and try to cache UPXed files, but I think a simpler, safer, and higher performance solution would be for me to just UPX my Python 2.6.4 directory once and be done with it. Thoughts? Malcolm

  • Adding an Object to Vector loses Reference using Java?

    - by thechiman
I have a Vector that holds a number of objects. My code uses a loop to add objects to the Vector depending on certain conditions. My question is, when I add the object to the Vector, is the original object reference added to the vector or does the Vector make a new instance of the object and adds that? For example, in the following code: private Vector numbersToCalculate; StringBuffer temp = new StringBuffer(); while(currentBuffer.length() > i) { //Some other code numbersToCalculate.add(temp); temp.setLength(0); //resets the temp StringBuffer } What I'm doing is adding the "temp" StringBuffer to the numbersToCalculate Vector. Should I be creating a new StringBuffer within the loop and adding that or will this code work? Thanks for the help! Eric

  • How can I play AMR files in Firefox on Ubuntu?

    - by Dave M G
I use Evernote to keep voice and text notes. Unfortunately, I've just discovered that I can't take full advantage of the cloud storage capabilities of Evernote, because support for Android's native sound file format, AMR, is deficient in Ubuntu. When I view my voice notes in Firefox in Ubuntu, I get a "missing plugin" error. The problem is discussed on the Evernote forums, but the solutions offered there are really lacking. They all involve saving and converting files, which seems like an unreasonable amount of fiddling. Surely an AMR file is just a sound file, and surely Ubuntu could (and should) have a way of playing it? There is some suggestion that Media Player can play AMR format, and I thought there was a Media Player plugin for Firefox. But I can not find any specifics. How can I get Ubuntu to play AMR file directly in Firefox in Ubuntu?

  • Where Are the Release Versions of ASP.Net AJAX 4.0 Templating Files?

    - by Lee Richardson
I'm trying to get the production version of ASP.Net AJAX 4.0 Templating working and can't find the JavaScript files. With the beta version I needed to reference MicrosoftAjaxTemplates.js, MicrosoftAjaxAdoNet.js, and MicrosoftAjaxDataContext.js. I can get everything to work with the beta CDN versions (e.g. http://ajax.microsoft.com/ajax/beta/0911/MicrosoftAjaxTemplates.js). But for the life of me I can't find 1. The release CDN versions of these files or 2. Where to download the whole Release ASP.Net AJAX 4.0 JavaScript package. The files certainly are not listed on the ASP.Net AJAX 4.0 CDN at http://www.asp.net/ajaxlibrary/CDNAjax4.ashx. Maybe the files have been renamed? Theoretically this should be a rediculously easy question and I'm a little embarrased to even ask it on StackOverflow, but I've had no luck finding an answer on my own. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks, - Lee

  • How can I cleanup a botched Truecrypt installation?

    - by Don F
I made the mistake of downloading the X64 version of Truecrypt and trying to install it when I'm actually running the 32-bit version of Precise Pangolin. I want to clean up the files that I am unable to use, but of course I can't just run the uninstall since Truecrypt could not be installed in the first place. I am new to this but I have spent some time researching the command line. When I run "locate trucrypt -i" in the terminal I receive several relevant files in the usr/bin and usr/share directories. No "rm" commands work on these listed files--I only get "no such file or directory" back. I'm sure this has something to do with permissions but I don't know what I'm missing here. Why is it I cannot find these files through the GUI (even when I select "show hidden files") or when I try to navigate to these files via the terminal using cd and ls commands? How can I remove these files (they are there aren't they?), one way or another, from my system? Your patience and time are appreciated

  • How to check which files I fopen'ed on Windows?

    - by Igor Oks
I received a "Too many open files" error when tried to do fopen (C++, Windows XP). Probably it happened because somewhere in my program I open files without closing them. Is there a way on Windows to see a list of all open file descriptors (or all files that my program fopened)?

  • How do I connect a Nexus 7 to transfer files?

    - by gotqn
I want to move some files from my PC to Nexus 7. The tablet is connected to my PC's USB port and it is successfully charging. Unfortunately, the PC is not detecting the devices - what I expected is to be shown the Nexus 7 tablet as external devices (like my USB flash memory). As the tablet is connected to the my home internet network, I have checked if it will appear in the "Networks" section but it does not. I am using Ubuntu 12.4 LTS. Is there a easy way to connect the devices to my PC and move some information between them?

  • Automatically add links to class source files under a specified directory of an another project in V

    - by Binary255
I want to share some class source files between two projects in Visual Studio 2008. I can't create a project for the common parts and reference it (see my comment if you are curious to why). I've managed to share some source files, but it could be a lot more neat. I've created a test solution called Commonality. The Solution Explorer of the Commonality solution which contains project One and Two: What I like: All class files under the Common folder of project One are automatically added to project Two by linking. It's mostly the same as if I would have chosen Add / Existing Item... : Add As Link on each new class source file. It's clear that these files have been linked in. The shortcut arrow symbol is marking each file icon. What I do not like: The file and folder tree structure under Common of project One isn't included. It's all flat. The linked source files are shown under the project root of project Two. It would look much less cluttered if they were located under Common like in project One. The file tree structure of the Commonality solution which contains project One and Two: $ tree /F /A Folder PATH listing for volume Cystem Volume serial number is 0713370 1337:F6A4 C:. | Commonality.sln | +---One | | One.cs | | One.csproj | | | +---bin | | \---Debug | | One.vshost.exe | | One.vshost.exe.manifest | | | +---Common | | | Common.cs | | | CommonTwo.cs | | | | | \---SubCommon | | CommonThree.cs | | | +---obj | | \---Debug | | +---Refactor | | \---TempPE | \---Properties | AssemblyInfo.cs | \---Two | Two.cs | Two.csproj | Two.csproj.user | Two.csproj~ | +---bin | \---Debug +---obj | \---Debug | +---Refactor | \---TempPE \---Properties AssemblyInfo.cs And the relevant part of project Two's project file Two.csproj: <ItemGroup> <Compile Include="..\One\Common\**\*.cs"> </Compile> <Compile Include="Two.cs" /> <Compile Include="Properties\AssemblyInfo.cs" /> </ItemGroup> How do I address what I do not like, while keeping what I like?

  • How can I store all my level data in a single file instead of spread out over many files?

    - by Jon
I am currently generating my level data, and saving to disk to ensure that any modifications done to the level are saved. I am storing "chunks" of 2048x2048 pixels into a file. Whenever the player moves over a section that doesn't have a file associated with the position, a new file is created. This works great, and is very fast. My issue, is that as you are playing the file count gets larger and larger. I'm wondering what are techniques that can be used to alleviate the file count, without taking a performance hit. I am interested in how you would store/seek/update this data in a single file instead of multiple files efficiently.

  • How to use different php.ini files for different VirtualHosts?

    - by gsingh2011
I have my site and it's staging subdomain running on the same CentOS machine running apache. The subdomain is created using a VirtualHost, and I use it to find any bugs before I push to production. I want the php.ini file for the staging VirtualHost to be a development one, and the production site will use a production php.ini. How can I configure apache to use different php.ini files? I don't want to use php_value/php_flag for everything, I'd rather just use the php.ini file I already have available. I've tried creating an .htaccess file that looks like this, SetEnv PHPRC /path/to/php.ini/directory This has no effect, as phpinfo() tells me it's still using /etc/php.ini. I've also tried setting PHPIniDir for both virtual hosts (www and staging) and it complains about seeing the directive twice.

  • How to attach multiple files to a Wordpress post?

    - by erik.brannstrom
I'm currently working on a project where we are using Wordpress 3.0 RC. The idea is to create custom post types with meta boxes to make the system easier to use for the client. Some of these posts need to have multiple files attached to them, and by attached I do not mean inserted to post but rather we'd like to keep them separate from the post body (in fact, a given post type might not even have text, only files). I'm wondering if there is a standard approach for allowing multiple files to be attached to a Wordpress post? I've managed to add a meta box that allows one file from the media library to be selected, but I have no idea how to extend this to allow an arbitrary number of files. Hope someone can help!

  • How much information does pdb files contain? (C# / .NET)

    - by Silver Dragon
Is is wise to redistribute the pdb files along with a commercial application? Occasionally, I'm using the stack trace to get a more detailed error reporting logs from the deployed applications; can this functionality be achieved without relying to those files? Also, how much hints of the original source code does these files contain? Would it be easier to reverse-engineer my application using it?

  • How can I get Dashcode to open JSP files?

    - by user332000
A simple tools question but it's driving me nuts. I have some .jsp files on my computer that I associated with Dashcode, figuring it would be a suitable editor. But when I try to open the files, all I get is a dialog box that says, "Dashcode cannot open files of this type". I thought there'd be an easy way to fix this but I can't find it. Nowhere in Dashcode's preferences can I find any list of valid file extensions. I poked around its resources folder for a while and couldn't find it there either. The Dashcode menubar is visible when the error is up, so I'm guessing that this is Dashcode itself complaining that it cannot open this file rather than the OS preventing it from trying. How exactly does this work? Is Dashcode really just hard-coded to recognize only files of certain types by their file extension? Isn't there a way to change it? Thanks, Frank

  • Is SSIS able to query flat files from another Windows Server?

    - by atricapilla
I pretty new SQL Server Integration Server (SSIS) user. Is SSIS able to query data from text files located in another Windows Server? I mean that when SSIS is installed on Windwos Server A, is SSIS able to query data from e.g. one folder containing text files in Windows Server B (under same domain)? I have used only SAP BO Data Integrator ETL tool and it cannot query flat files from another Server: during execution, all files must be located on the Job Server machine that executes the job.

  • Too many open files in one of my java routine.

    - by Irfan Zulfiqar
I have a multithreaded code that has to generated a set of objects and write them to a file. When I run it I sometime get "Too many open files" message in Exception. I have checked the code to make sure that all the file streams are being closed properly. Here is the stack trace. When I do ulimit -a, open files allowed is set to 1024. We think increasing this number is not a viable option / solution. [java] java.io.FileNotFoundException: /export/event_1_0.dtd (Too many open files) [java] at java.io.FileInputStream.open(Native Method) [java] at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(FileInputStream.java:106) [java] at java.io.FileInputStream.<init>(FileInputStream.java:66) [java] at sun.net.www.protocol.file.FileURLConnection.connect(FileURLConnection.java:70) [java] at sun.net.www.protocol.file.FileURLConnection.getInputStream(FileURLConnection.java:161) [java] at java.net.URL.openStream(URL.java:1010) Now what we have identified so far by looking closely at the list of open files is that the VM is opening same class file multiple times. /export/BaseEvent.class 236 /export/EventType1BaseEvent.class 60 /export/EventType2BaseEvent.class 48 /export/EventType2.class 30 /export/EventType1.class 14 Where BaseEvent is partent of all the classes and EventType1 ant EventType2 inherits EventType1BaseEvent and EventType2BaseEvent respectively. Why would a class loader load the same class file 200+ times. It seems it is opening up the base class as many time it create any child instance. Is this normal? Can it be handler any other way apart from increasing the number of open files?

  • How to efficiently manage files on a filesystem in Java?

    - by Tuukka Mustonen
I am creating a few JAX-WS endpoints, for which I want to save the received and sent messages for later inspection. To do this, I am planning to save the messages (XML files) into filesystem, in some sensible hierarchy. There will be hundreds, even thousands of files per day. I also need to store metadata for each file. I am considering to put the metadata (just a couple of fields) into database table, but the XML file content itself into files in a filesystem in order not to bloat the database with content data (that is seldomly read). Is there some simple library that helps me in saving, loading, deleting etc. the files? It's not that tricky to implement it myself, but I wonder if there are existing solutions? Just a simple library that already provides easy access to filesystem (preferrably over different operating systems). Or do I even need that, should I just go with raw/custom Java?

  • Convert Decimal to ASCII

    - by Dan Snyder
    I'm having difficulty using reinterpret_cast. Before I show you my code I'll let you know what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to get a filename from a vector full of data being used by a MIPS I processor I designed. Basically what I do is compile a binary from a test program for my processor, dump all the hex's from the binary into a vector in my c++ program, convert all of those hex's to decimal integers and store them in a DataMemory vector which is the data memory unit for my processor. I also have instruction memory. So When my processor runs a SYSCALL instruction such as "Open File" my C++ operating system emulator receives a pointer to the beginning of the filename in my data memory. So keep in mind that data memory is full of ints, strings, globals, locals, all sorts of stuff. When I'm told where the filename starts I do the following: Convert the whole decimal integer element that is being pointed to to its ASCII character representation, and then search from left to right to see if the string terminates, if not then just load each character consecutively into a "filename" string. Do this until termination of the string in memory and then store filename in a table. My difficulty is generating filename from my memory. Here is an example of what I'm trying to do: C++ Syntax (Toggle Plain Text) 1.Index Vector NewVector ASCII filename 2.0 240faef0 128123792 'abc7' 'a' 3.0 240faef0 128123792 'abc7' 'ab' 4.0 240faef0 128123792 'abc7' 'abc' 5.0 240faef0 128123792 'abc7' 'abc7' 6.1 1234567a 243225 'k2s0' 'abc7k' 7.1 1234567a 243225 'k2s0' 'abc7k2' 8.1 1234567a 243225 'k2s0' 'abc7k2s' 9. //EXIT LOOP// 10.1 1234567a 243225 'k2s0' 'abc7k2s' Index Vector NewVector ASCII filename 0 240faef0 128123792 'abc7' 'a' 0 240faef0 128123792 'abc7' 'ab' 0 240faef0 128123792 'abc7' 'abc' 0 240faef0 128123792 'abc7' 'abc7' 1 1234567a 243225 'k2s0' 'abc7k' 1 1234567a 243225 'k2s0' 'abc7k2' 1 1234567a 243225 'k2s0' 'abc7k2s' //EXIT LOOP// 1 1234567a 243225 'k2s0' 'abc7k2s' Here is the code that I've written so far to get filename (I'm just applying this to element 1000 of my DataMemory vector to test functionality. 1000 is arbitrary.): C++ Syntax (Toggle Plain Text) 1.int i = 0; 2.int step = 1000;//top->a0; 3.string filename; 4.char *temp = reinterpret_cast<char*>( DataMemory[1000] );//convert to char 5.cout << "a0:" << top->a0 << endl;//pointer supplied 6.cout << "Data:" << DataMemory[top->a0] << endl;//my vector at pointed to location 7.cout << "Data(1000):" << DataMemory[1000] << endl;//the element I'm testing 8.cout << "Characters:" << &temp << endl;//my temporary char array 9. 10.while(&temp[i]!=0) 11.{ 12. filename+=temp[i];//add most recent non-terminated character to string 13. i++; 14. if(i==4)//when 4 chatacters have been added.. 15. { 16. i=0; 17. step+=1;//restart loop at the next element in DataMemory 18. temp = reinterpret_cast<char*>( DataMemory[step] ); 19. } 20. } 21. cout << "Filename:" << filename << endl; int i = 0; int step = 1000;//top-a0; string filename; char *temp = reinterpret_cast( DataMemory[1000] );//convert to char cout << "a0:" << top-a0 << endl;//pointer supplied cout << "Data:" << DataMemory[top-a0] << endl;//my vector at pointed to location cout << "Data(1000):" << DataMemory[1000] << endl;//the element I'm testing cout << "Characters:" << &temp << endl;//my temporary char array while(&temp[i]!=0) { filename+=temp[i];//add most recent non-terminated character to string i++; if(i==3)//when 4 chatacters have been added.. { i=0; step+=1;//restart loop at the next element in DataMemory temp = reinterpret_cast( DataMemory[step] ); } } cout << "Filename:" << filename << endl; So the issue is that when I do the conversion of my decimal element to a char array I assume that 8 hex #'s will give me 4 characters. Why isn't this this case? Here is my output: C++ Syntax (Toggle Plain Text) 1.a0:0 2.Data:0 3.Data(1000):4428576 4.Characters:0x7fff5fbff128 5.Segmentation fault
