  • Opening Python in CMD (Unfixable Error)

    I recently tried opening one of my Python projects with CMD to see what would happen. The result did nothing amazing, but Windows 7 thought I wanted to open .py files in CMD all the time. I have tried everything, setting it back to python.exe does not work, I even went to Control Panel to see if it could help, but Control Panel couldn't help either. So if someone could help me please that would be great. Thank you.

  • Windows 7 - Samba share remember password

    I have a Samba share setup on my Windows 7 machine which allows me to access a CentOS 5.6 VM running on my machine with VirtualBox. When I restart my Windows machine I have to start the VM, as you would expect. However, when I go to connect to my Samba share in Windows it asks me for the password every time - even if I tick 'Remember My Password'. Is there any way to store the password for the VM so that it doesn't ask me every time?

  • Addons which actually make Firefox run faster?

    I would like to know of addons which actually enhance firefox's performance, both intentionally and unintentionally. I find that firefox tends to have major performance issues with certain websites. These websites tend to have a fair amount of javascript and css, and probably a large dom tree which may even be growing dynamically through javascript too. The worse offenders are those with heavy javascript, use heavy facebook integration, websites with non performant javascript, excessive javascript and websites with too many advertisements.

    I have a network that connects 2 households and would like to setup a simple voip server so that I can call between the houses. It needs to be for ubnutu , I have used the free 3CX system and while it works brilliantly it doesnt support linux and I can get a windows box. The users will never need to call external lines. They will only make 'calls' between laptops/pc. Can someone please make a recommendation and maybe even a tutorial that I can follow

  • Alternative Windows Offline Files + Windows Backup + Previous Version Setup

    Currently our documents are all hosted in a Windows 7 box. Users can access the files using Windows share and the documents are available offline (windows 7 feature). The documents are being backed up daily by Windows 7 backup and restore utility. Users can access previous versions of the file (from the backups) using Windows Explorer "previous versions" feature. This setup is currently working well, except for the following: We would prefer to have access to hourly versions of the file, not daily. The previous version mechanism is tied up to the backup mechanism. Windows 7 performs a full backup every week and incremental backup everyday. The previous versions of a file is actually what are the available in the backups. If you 20GB documents and want to maintain at least three(3) year history, you will use at minimum 3 years * 52 weeks * 20GB or about 3TB even if there are few changes in the documents. Its pretty inefficient use of space. Looking up previous versions of a file is very slow (tens of minutes). This is probably related to the previous issue - Windows has to traverse its all of its backups. I am considering using SVN + autocommit/autoupdate tortoisesvn. It will have the following advantages: Backups are easy and will also backup the whole history of each documents. (Just backup the repository). Creating previous versions can be frequent. I think svn commit / update can be done every two minutes or so. Users can sync over the net. However, I can see the following issues: More conflicts than the original setup because both multiple users can now edit the same file even both are online, i.e. can connect to the SVN repo. The users can off course lock the file first before editing, but that would mean they have to adjust. Delay on propagation of file changes. On windows 7 file sharing, changes made by one online user will be instantaneously available to other online users. With the SVN setup, changes will only be propagated when the users execute the svn add/commit/update sequence. Delay will be probably a few minutes. This workflow will no longer work: "Hi, I just edited document X, can you have a quick look?" I would like to ask the opinion of the community for alternative setups, or improvements on the above setups to work out the kinks.

    Context: Windows 7 Wired mouse and keyboard The Windows 7 Photos screensaver intermittently fails to kick in after 2 minutes. The computer knows that the time has passed because it will make my monitors display solid black screens. I already tried installing the latest mouse drivers from Microsoft and the problem persists. I also can't find any rhyme or reason to when the problem will happen. The problem happens even when Windows Media Player isn't running.

    How to use complex AJAX applications with a lot of menus and with X.509 authentications in non-GUI mode with simple browsers? For example, I can login to Webmoney from console using links/lynx/link2 (but not w3m), entering captcha (using aaxine) and do operations there, but can't login not using X.509 certificate (even if I try to separate SSL part using "socat tcp-l:... openssl:...:443,cert=extracted_from_firefox.pem") Is there some program that behaves like fully-fledged browser (build DOM/execute JS/Support all features except of actually displaying things), but without GUI and dependencies on GUI libraries?

    When I'm browsing I always use the address bar to search, but when I do this in Internet Explorer 10, I get taken to the default search engine Bing. So I started looking in the Internet Options to see if I could change it, but I couldn't find the right option. There's no clear way to add Google from this screen and when I clicked: Find more search providers..., you get taken to IE Gallery where Google isn't even listed.     I'm using a TV to USB capture thingy called Hauppauge USB-Live2 (http://www.hauppauge.com/site/products/data_usblive2.html) and I'm using Media Player Classic Home Cinema to view my device's output, and finally I'm using Fraps to record the output off of MPC. It all works nicely except I can't get my mic to record, or even show up in the "Record External Input" area of Fraps while my Hauppauge is plugged in. My question is: How can I select my mic as the "record external input" in fraps?

  • How to check if windows has automatic updates waiting from the command line?

    If a Windows server (2k3/2k8) is set to "download but not install" updates, is there a way to check from the command line.. perhaps a log file or something I can check with powershell, to see if there are any updates actually waiting to be installed? I'm trying to prevent having to manually log on to each server to check, even though they want the "trigger" pulled manually. We have an automation system in place I can use (CA Autosys) - just not sure what to have it look for.

  • What is a good encryptable disk image format suitable for rsync on a PC?

    I’m looking for a solution to encrypt my XP home directory and then rsync the encrypted image file to a remote server. Since I don’t want to transfer several Gigs for even the smallest change in the image I’m looking for a solution which saves the image “chunked” into smaller files. The CRM software I am running on this server requires this upgrade or else I probably wouldn't even perform it, because it seems like it's going to be perhaps trickier than I hoped it would be. Being still new to the programming world, these routine upgrades are still worrisome to me. I am running apache 2.2.6 (Fedora), PHP 5.1.6 and MySQL 5.0.27 on this server.
