  • How to compare 2 similar strings letter by letter and highlight the differences?

    - by PowerUser
We have 2 databases that should have matching tables. I have an (In-Production) report that compares these fields and displays them to the user in an MS-Access form (continuous form style) for correction. This is all well and good except it can be difficult to find the differences. How can I format these fields to bold/italicize/color the differences? "The lazy dog jumped over a brown fox." "The lazy dog jumped over the brown fox." (It's easier to see the differences between 2 similiar text fields once they are highlighted in some way) "The lazy dog jumped over a brown fox." "The lazy dog jumped over the brown fox. " Since we're talking about a form in MS Access, I don't have high hopes. But I know I'm not the first person to have this problem. Suggestions?

  • Implementing DRM in enterprise environment

    - by Chathuranga Chandrasekara
Consider the following Business requirement. There are some templates of documents on a server (MS OFFICE format) The users should be able to edit the documents and save a copy in the server. The users SHOULD NOT be able to save a local copy. i.e That option should be not available. Do I have any feature\hack to do this with MS Office? Think about a solution like google docs without the Download options. It is ideal but needs a lot of effort to implement it.

Hello Everyone, I developed an application using VS 2008 and MS Access2007 and it works fine. Now have to make a setup of it(this is my first project). I gone through many tutorials about deployment, I tried VS 2008 setup and deployment, but after installation it only runs in my machine and not in others..sometimes it shows error(The 'Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0' provider is not registered on the local machine(that machine had both VS2008 and MS Access installed)). I been a week since, i tried what i can and still trying, cant believe that i am strucked here, nothing seems to work. Please help... The link below is my project, so if any of you could spare a little time to check project. 2_GameOnStart.html"http://www.4shared.com/file/7G14MULL/2_GameOnStart.html Thanking You all in advance. • What's the fastest way to check the availability of a SQL Server server?

    - by mwolfe02
I have an MS Access program in use in multiple locations. It connects to MS SQL Server tables, but the server name is different in each location. I am looking for the fastest way to test for the existence of a server. The code I am currently using looks like this: ShellWait "sc \\" & ServerName & " qdescription MSSQLSERVER > " & Qt(fn) FNum = FreeFile() Open fn For Input As #FNum Line Input #FNum, Result Close #FNum Kill fn If InStr(Result, "SUCCESS") Then ... ShellWait: executes a shell command and waits for it to finish Qt: wraps a string in double quotes fn: temporary filename variable I run the above code against a list of server names (of which only one is normally available). The code takes about one second if the server is available and takes about 8 seconds for each server that is unavailable. I'd like to get both of these lower, if possible, but especially the fail case as this one happens most often.

  • My server is slower than the average user's computer, should I still offload Access queries to SQL Server? [closed]

    - by andrewb
Possible Duplicate: How do you do Load Testing and Capacity Planning for Databases I have a database set up with MS Access 2007 front ends and an SQL Server 2005 back end. At the moment, all the queries are saved in the front end as I've only recently moved to an SQL Server backend. I'm wondering how much of those queries I should save as stored procedures/views on SQL Server. About the system The number of concurrent users is only a handful, though it could be as high as 25 at one time (very unlikely). The average computer has an Intel i3-2120 CPU running at 3.3 GHz, which gets a PassMark score of 3,987, whilst the server has an Intel Xeon E5335 running at 2.0 GHz, which gets a PassMark score of 2,637. Always an awkward situation when an i3 outperforms a Xeon... though the i3 is from Q1 2011 and the Xeon is Q2 2009. There is potential for a server upgrade in the future, though it wouldn't come easy. I'm inclined to move the queries to the back end, as they are beginning to take noticeable time and I figure that is a better way of doing things. I like the idea of throwing everything at the server, then pushing for a server upgrade. It makes more sense in my mind to be upgrading one server rather than 30 PCs. Or am I being overzealous? Why my question isn't a duplicate It seems that my question has been misinterpreted and labelled a duplicate of quite a different question, one about testing and capacity planning. I'll try explain how my question is very different from the linked question. The crux of my question is something like "Even though my server is technically slower, is it better to have it doing more of the queries?" There's two ways that people could have answered this: I agree the server is going to be slower, but the extra benefits of such and such (like the less Access the better) means you should move most to the server anyway. (OR no it doesn't outweigh the benefit, keep them in Access) Actually the server will be faster because of such and such. I'm hoping that people out there could provide some answers like this, and the question in the dupe link doesn't really provide either of these answers. Ok sure, I suppose I could do extensive performance testing to compare Access queries running on a local machine to SQL Server queries running on the server, but that sounds like a very hard task (particularly performance testing of access) compared to someone giving some quick general guidance, and again, my question is looking for a lot more than immediate performance benefit.

  • Outlook Object Library for Visual Studio

    - by Ukodiak
Our office is running two different versions of MS Office (2007 and 2010). Is there a way for me to integrate Outlook into a C# project and have it work for both versions of Outlook? I have added a reference to Microsoft Outlook 14.0 Object Library, but for users of Outlook 2007, do they require version 12.0 or will the newer version work?

  • Silverlight 4 Released

    - by ScottGu
The final release of Silverlight 4 is now available. What is in the Silverlight 4 Release Silverlight 4 contains a ton of new features and capabilities.  In particular we focused on three scenarios with this release: Further enhancing media support Building great business applications Enabling out of the browser experiences On Tuesday I gave a 60 minute keynote about Silverlight 4 which showed off many of the new features and capabilities now available.  You can watch my keynote to learn more about Silverlight 4 and see a ton of great demos of it in action. Also check out these three great posts by Tim Heuer that talk about the new features and provide a guide to the new Silverlight 4 capabilities: Silverlight 4 Beta – A Guide to the New Features Silverlight 4 RC – What was updated Silverlight 4 Released Also read David Anson’s great Silverlight 4 Toolkit post to learn more about the new controls and functionality also available within the Silverlight Toolkit release we also made available today.  Also visit this page to learn more about the new Pivot functionality in Silverlight 4 – which makes it really easy to visualize and interact with collections of images using Silverlight. Lastly – make sure to visit the www.silverlight.net web-site and visit the “Get Started” section to find free tutorials that you can use. Download and Install Silverlight 4 Tools for VS 2010 To develop Silverlight 4 applications you should first download and install Visual Studio 2010 or download and install the free Visual Web Developer 2010 Express edition. Then install the Silverlight Tools RC2 for Visual Studio 2010.  This setup includes the Silverlight 4 Developer Runtime, Silverlight 4 SDK, RIA Services, and VS 2010 tools support.  Once installed you can do File->New Project and choose Silverlight Application to create your first Silverlight 4 project.  You can then use the new WYSIWYG Silverlight designer in Visual Studio 2010 to design and build rich Silverlight 4 applications. Important: If you previously installed the Silverlight 4 Beta or RC build on your machine, please make sure to go into Add/Remove programs and uninstall the “Update for Visual Studio 2010 (KB976272)” package prior to installing the Silverlight Tools RC2 for Visual Studio 2010 setup.  Note that while Silverlight 4 is released, the “Silverlight 4 Tools for VS 2010” is currently in “RC2” mode (meaning we are going to keep an eye out for any remaining issues before finally calling it done).  We’ll update the tools to be “final” in a few weeks once we verify that no last minute issues/bugs remain. Download and Install Expression Blend 4 Release Candidate You can also download and install the Expression Blend 4 RC to create and design great Silverlight 4 applications.  Blend contains “Sketchflow” support – which makes it really easy to rapidly prototype ideas and applications.  To learn more about Sketchflow watch this 90 second video of it in action. Summary Today’s release is the fourth release of Silverlight that we’ve shipped in the last 2.5 years.  The team has done a great job of advancing it quickly and staying focused.  We think today’s Silverlight 4 release opens up a ton of new opportunities to build great solutions for both consumers and business scenarios.  We are looking forward to seeing what you build with it! Hope this helps, Scott

  • Squirrelmail receiving duplicate emails

    - by Austin
A client of mine is experiencing issues with his email, it appears that whenever he receives email from a certain domain it comes as duplicates. Not only are they duplicates but the duplicated items have a (+) sign next to them which usually indicates an attachment. Could this be because of a forwarding issue? • ms excel 2010 in windows xp - when open workbook the data is formatted differently than when i saved it

    - by Justin
I haven't been able to find an answer to this. I have multiple files that I use regularly in excel that now have cell formats of "date". Every single cell in the entire workbook (all sheets) is now formatted as "date". The problem is that I lost my formatting for percents, numbers years, etc and now everything is converted to date (xx/xx/xxxx). I am able to open previously saved versions of a file (prior to me having the problem) and the cells are formatted as I intend them to be (percents, numbers, general, as well as dates). Since this has happened on a couple different files recently, I am wondering how this is happening and how do I prevent it from happening in the future. I cannot cure the problem just by highlighting the entire sheet and converting back to general because I lose all my percents and number formatting. Example (Correct formatting): Month Year Working Days MTD POS Curr Rem May 2012 22 0 1,553,549 June 2012 22 0 1,516,903 June 2011 22 0 1,555,512 June 2010 22 0 1,584,704 Example (Incorrect formatting): Month Year Working Days MTD POS Curr Rem June Tuesday, July 04, 1905 Wednesday, January 04, 1900 Wednesday, January 18, 1900 213,320 July Tuesday, July 04, 1905 Wednesday, January 04, 1900 Monday, January 16, 1900 314,261 July Monday, July 03, 1905 Wednesday, January 04, 1900 Sunday, January 15, 1900 447,759 July Sunday, July 02, 1905 Wednesday, January 04, 1900 Monday, January 16, 1900 321,952 Sorry for the mess. • Delphi 2010 differs in Canvas transparency compared to Delphi 7?

    - by Tom1952
    I'm porting some very old code from Delph7 to Delphi2010 with a few changes as possible to the existing code base for the usual reasons. First: the good news for anyone who hasn't jumped yet: it's not as daunting as it may look! I'm actually pleased (& surprised) at how easy 1,000,000+ lines of code have moved across. And what a relief to be back on the leading edge! Delphi 2010 has so many great enhancements. However, I'm having a cosmetic problem with some TStringGrids and TDbGrids descendants. In the last century (literally!) someone wrote the two methods below. The first method is used to justify text. When run in Delphi 2010, the new text and the unjustified text to both appear in the cells written to. Of course it's a mess visually, almost illegible. Sometimes, as a result of the second method is use, the grid cells are actually semi-transparent, with text from the window below showing through. (Again, not pretty!) It appears to me that Delphi 2010's TDbGrid and TStringGrid have some differences in the way they handle transparency? I haven't much experience in this area of Delphi (in fact, I have no idea what the 2nd method is actually doing!) and was hoping someone could give me some pointers on what's going on and how to fix it. TIA! Method 1 procedure TForm1.gridDrawCell(Sender: TObject; Col, Row: Integer; Rect: TRect; State: TGridDrawState); {Used to align text in cells.} var x: integer; begin if (Row > 0) AND (Col > 0) then begin SetTextAlign(grdTotals.Canvas.Handle, TA_RIGHT); x := Rect.Right - 2; end else begin SetTextAlign(grdTotals.Canvas.Handle, TA_CENTER); x := (Rect.Left + Rect.Right) div 2; end; grdTotals.Canvas.TextRect(Rect, x, Rect.Top+2, grdTotals.Cells[Col,Row]); end; Method 2 procedure WriteText(ACanvas: TCanvas; ARect: TRect; DX, DY: Integer; const Text: string; TitleBreak: TTitleBreak; Alignment: TAlignment); const AlignFlags: array [TAlignment] of Integer = (DT_LEFT or { DT_WORDBREAK or } DT_EXPANDTABS or DT_NOPREFIX, DT_RIGHT or { DT_WORDBREAK or } DT_EXPANDTABS or DT_NOPREFIX, DT_CENTER or { DT_WORDBREAK or } DT_EXPANDTABS or DT_NOPREFIX); var ABitmap: TBitmap; AdjustBy: Integer; B, R: TRect; WordBreak: Integer; begin WordBreak := 0; if (TitleBreak = tbAlways) or ((TitleBreak = tbDetect) and (Pos(Chr(13) + Chr(10), Text) = 0)) then WordBreak := DT_WORDBREAK; ABitmap := TBitmap.Create; try ABitmap.Canvas.Lock; try AdjustBy := 1; if (Alignment = taRightJustify) then Inc(AdjustBy); with ABitmap, ARect do begin Width := Max(Width, Right - Left); Height := Max(Height, Bottom - Top); R := Rect(DX, DY, Right - Left - AdjustBy, Bottom - Top - 1); { @@@ } B := Rect(0, 0, Right - Left, Bottom - Top); end; with ABitmap.Canvas do begin Font := ACanvas.Font; Brush := ACanvas.Brush; Brush.Style := bsSolid; FillRect(B); SetBkMode(Handle, TRANSPARENT); DrawText(Handle, PChar(Text), Length(Text), R, AlignFlags[Alignment] or WordBreak); end; ACanvas.CopyRect(ARect, ABitmap.Canvas, B); finally ABitmap.Canvas.Unlock; end; finally ABitmap.Free; end; end;

  • MSBuild script fails but produces no errors

    - by Kate
I have a MSBuild script that I am executing through TeamCity. One of the tasks that is runs is from Xheo DeploxLX CodeVeil which obfuscates some DLLs. The task I am using is called VeilProject. I have run the CodeVeil Project through the interface manually and it works correctly, so I think I can safely assume that the actual obfuscate process is ok. This task used to take around 40 minutes and the rest of the MSBuild file executed perfectly and finished without errors. For some reason this task is now taking 1hr 20 minutes or so to execute. Once the VeilProject task is finished the output from the task says it completely successfully, however the MSBuild script fails at this point. I have a task directly after the VeilProject task and it does not get outputted. Using diagnostic output from MSBUild I can see the following: My questions are: Would it be possible that the MSBuild script has timed out? Once the task has completed it is after a certain timeout period so it just fails? Why would the build fail with no errors and no warnings? [05:39:06]: [Target "Obfuscate"] Finished. • Using MS Standalone profiler in VS2008 Professional

    - by fishdump
I am trying to profile my .NET dll while running it from VS unit testing tools but I am having problems. I am using the standalone command-line profiler as VS2008 Professional does not come with an inbuilt profiler. • Codeigniter benchmarking, where are these ms coming from?

    - by ropstah
I'm in the process of benchmarking my website. class Home extends Controller { function Home() { parent::Controller(); $this->benchmark->mark('Constructor_start'); $this->output->enable_profiler(TRUE); $this->load->library ('MasterPage'); $this->benchmark->mark('Constructor_end'); } function index() { $this->benchmark->mark('Index_start'); $this->masterpage->setMasterPage('master/home'); $this->masterpage->addContent('home/index', 'page'); $this->masterpage->show(); $this->benchmark->mark('Index_start'); } } These are the results: Loading Time Base Classes: 0.0076 Constructor: 0.0007 Index: 0.0440 Controller Execution Time ( Home/ Index ): 0.4467 Total Execution Time: 0.4545` I understand the following: Loading Time Base Classes (0.0076) Constructor (0.0007) Index (0.0440) But where is the rest of the time coming from?

  • MS SQL 2008, join or no join?

    - by Patrick
Just a small question regarding joins. I have a table with around 30 fields and i was thinking about making a second table to store 10 of those fields. Then i would just join them in with the main data. The 10 fields that i was planning to store in a second table does not get queried directly, it's just some settings for the data in the first table. Something like: Table 1 Id Data1 Data2 Data3 etc ... Table 2 Id (same id as table one) Settings1 Settings2 Settings3 Is this a bad solution? Should i just use 1 table? How much performance inpact does it have? All entries in table 1 would also then have an entry in table 2. Small update is in order. Most of the Data fields are of the type varchar and 2 of them are of the type text. How is indexing treated? My plan is to index 2 data fields, email (varchar 50) and author (varchar 20). And yes, all records in Table 1 will have a record in Table 2. Most of the settings fields are of the bit type, around 80%. The rest is a mix between int and varchar. The varchars can be null.

  • How do I get folder size with Exchange Web Services 2010 Managed API?

    - by Adam Tuttle
I'm attempting to use EWS 2010 Managed API to get the total size of a user's mailbox. I haven't found a web service method to get this data, so I figured I would try to calculate it. I found one seemingly-applicable question on another site about finding mailbox sizes with EWS 2007, but either I'm not understanding what it's asking me to do, or that method just doesn't work with EWS 2010. Noodling around in the code insight, I was able to write what I thought was a method that would traverse the folder structure recursively and result in a combined total for all folders inside the Inbox: private int traverseChildFoldersForSize(Folder f) { int folderSizeSum = 0; if (f.ChildFolderCount > 0) { foreach (Folder c in f.FindFolders(new FolderView(10000))) { folderSizeSum += traverseChildFoldersForSize(c); } } folderSizeSum += (int)f.ManagedFolderInformation.FolderSize; return folderSizeSum; } (Assumes there aren't more than 10,000 folders inside a given folder. Figure that's a safe bet...) Unfortunately, this doesn't work. I'm initiating the recursion with this code: Folder root = Folder.Bind(svc, WellKnownFolderName.Inbox); int totalSize = traverseChildFoldersForSize(root); But a Null Pointer Exception is thrown, essentially saying that [folder].ManagedFolderInformation is a null object reference. For clarity, I also attempted to just get the size of the root folder: Console.Write(root.ManagedFolderInformation.FolderSize.ToString()); Which threw the same NPE exception, so I know that it's not just that once you get to a certain depth in the directory tree that ManagedFolderInformation doesn't exist. Any ideas on how to get the total size of the user's mailbox? Am I barking up the wrong tree?

  • Web application creation in IIS7 via MS.Web.Admin

    - by Jon Ownbey
    I am attempting to create seperate workflow instances as applications in IIS7 using the Microsoft.Web.Administration dll. When it attempts to add the Application to the Site ApplicationsCollection I get a COM error: "Invalid application path\r\n" using (ServerManager manager = new ServerManager()) { var site = manager.Sites.Where(x => x.Name == Properties.Settings.Default.WorkflowWebsiteName).Single(); StringBuilder stringBuilder = new StringBuilder() .Append(m_workflowDefinition.AccountId) .Append("/") .Append(m_workflowDefinition.WorkflowDefinitionId) .Append("/") .Append(m_workflowDefinition.Version) .Append("/"); string virtualPath = stringBuilder.ToString(); string physicalPath = Properties.Settings.Default.ApplicationPoolString + virtualPath.Replace("/", "\\"); if (!Directory.Exists(physicalPath)) Directory.CreateDirectory(physicalPath); //Create the workflow service definition file using (StreamWriter writer = new StreamWriter(Path.Combine(physicalPath, m_workflowDefinition.WorkflowName + WORKFLOW_FILE_EXTENSION))) { writer.Write(m_workflowDefinition.Definition); } //Copy dependencies string dependencyPath = m_workflowDefinition.DependenciesPath; CopyAll(new DirectoryInfo(dependencyPath), new DirectoryInfo(physicalPath)); //Create a new IIS application for the workflow var apps = site.Applications.Where(x => x.Path == virtualPath); if (apps.Count() > 0) { site.Applications.Remove(apps.Single()); } Application app = site.Applications.Add(virtualPath, physicalPath); app.ApplicationPoolName = "Workflow AppPool"; app.EnabledProtocols = PROTOCOLS; manager.CommitChanges(); } The value assigned to virtualPath is like: "something/something/something" and for physicalPath it is "c:\inetpub\wwwroot\Workflow\something\something\something". Any ideas? Any help is greatly appreciated.
