Hi,
I have Ubuntu host that has a VMWare running Windows XP.
If I connect to a VPN from my Windows XP, then will that connection be available to my host Ubuntu as well?

I want to lend my computer to my flatmate so that he can play some games for which his computer is underpowered.
Is it possible to install a second copy of Windows 7 into a separate partition and configure it such that it has no access to the other partitions and disks on the computer, the ones that I use in my main Windows install?
I'm not concerned about security, just want to avoid him accidentially messing with my data somehow.
Can I do that?
Hello,
I installed Windows 7 on VMWare and it works just fine! However, when I leave the machine idling and work on my host OS, Windows 7 decides that it is a good idea to thrash disk and kill performance.
How do I disable these background processes? Is it just indexer?

I hid one of the accounts on my computer from the welcome screen by adding it to the registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon\SpecialAccounts\UserList
I was hoping I'd be able to log in to this account by hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del on the welcome screen, but Windows 7 completely ignores this. Is there a way to login to the hidden account on a Windows 7 machine?
Hi All,
Is it just me, or is Windows 7 x64 awfully unstable when it comes to 32-bit processes? If I ever find myself in a situation where a 32-bit process hangs or otherwise misbehaves, terminating the process (through e.g. task manager) seems to fail every time - there are no error messages or anything, it's just that the process refuses to terminate.
Anyone else have the same problems running 32-bit applications on x64 Windows?
Thanks,
Will.
I work with four monitors and software that displays a great many windows. Every now and then things go wrong and I'll end up with a window that is partially or completely "off the screen". Is there a trick or utility that will help me rescue the windows and bring them back in to view.
Windows server 2012 installed on a ISCI LUN. Problem noticed after first reboot. Windows boots only if setup DVD is present(i have to ignore "press any key to boot from DVD" prompt). to present the login Screen and everything looks great from here. But the server wont boot without the help of setup DVD. Can any one help me understand what would be the problem?
Dell Workstation T3600
Intel Pro NIC (Capable of ISCI Boot and also enabled)
I have a Windows 7 VirtualBox VM (64 bit, 8 GB) on a Snow Leopard host (64 bit, 24 GB). It works fine until I connect via Microsoft Mesh.
When I connect via Mesh remote desktop, the VM crashes about one or two minutes after the connection has been established. It doesn't answer to pings (from the host and from other machines in the network) and no RDC connections (from other Windows machines in the network where Mesh works) are possible.
Any ideas?
Is there a way to create a wildcard domain in the windows hosts file.
I tried this
xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx *.somedomain.com
This does not work, is there maybe some other syntax I should use?

I have some unallocated space before my Windows 7 partition.
Can I move the Windows 7 partition so that the free space is after it instead than before it, and then extend the partition to use all of the currently unallocated space?

Is there a way to set the default location of the windows explorer window when you open it?
For example whenever i open windows explorer i want it to open on the 'My Documents' folder.
I have a 64-bit Windows 7 install as the only partition on a 1 TB HDD, with about 350 GB free. I would like to install Fedora 17 as a dual-boot option on this system and give it about 100 GB to play with. If in the Fedora install utility I choose to shrink the W7 partition by 100 GB to give it space, will that cause me to lose my existing W7 data? And how do I go about setting up dual-boot (with Windows 7 as the default)?
Are there any tools that can be used to connect to windows 2008 servers, and get a comparison of the installed patches/updates on the servers, showing what is installed on one and not on the other?
This is to help isolate an issue we are seeing on a specific windows server, in a load balanced setup. There is a certain performance/locking issue, which is mitigated whenever one of the servers is disabled.
Please share, if you have any suggestions.
Thanks in advance!

Is there a way to manage a Hyper-V cluster that runs on a Windows Server 2008 R2 Datacenter from a Windows 8.1 Pro workstation?
I've downloaded and installed the Remote Server Admin Tools for 8.1 (http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=39296), but when I enable the Hyper-V manager, it tells me that I can't manage Hyper-V servers on 2K8 or 2K8R2.
Related, the Failover Cluster Manager barfs with a similar error.
How do I manage my old servers with my new workstation?
on my phone device which runs with windows mobile, I'll like to have an application which says the name of the caller, when i get a new call. I know that nokia has such an application. Do you know such an application for windows mobile?
Well, for the project I envisioned I have MY software and want to attach 4 webcams to the PC. I dug deep down into development only to find out that...
Windows won't work with more than 2 webcams?!
Is there a way around that problem?
Information about my configuration:
Windows 7 Ultimate (64-bit)
Relevant applications running in x86 mode
Canyon or Prestigion 2Mpix web cam (running in 640x480 resolution at 30 FPS)
I would like to use a vm ubuntu installation as my testing environment, but to ease workflow, I have symlinked /var/www to a windows share. Everything looks good when browsing files and the owner and group both are showing up as www-data, but I can not seem to get apache to respond with anything other than permission denied. Obviously there are still some permission issues between Windows 7 and Ubuntu, but I don't know where to go
This menu allows you to select a hardware profile when Windows is started
If your system is not starting correctly, then you may switch to a previous system configuration, important: system configuration changes made since the last successful start up will be discarded.
Profile 1
If I choose Profile 1 (the only choice) Windows loads normally.
This menu always appears when I turn on the computer.
Is there any can solve it?
Hello,
When I set up my XBox 360 as a Windows Media Extender although I can see all the media I have on my Windows Vista PC it is excruciatingly slow to move between albums etc
Is there anything I can do to improve this or is it just because of the number of media files I have - about 5GB?
Cheers
I deleted /boot/efi (while attempting to install archlinux).
There is one harddrive, 750GB, /dev/sda). The partitions are
/dev/sda1 ntfs 315MB
/dev/sda2 EFIboot 105MB <=== this got deleted
/dev/sda3 ? 135MB
/dev/sda4 ntfs 626GB <======= windows 8
/dev/sda5 ntfs
/dev/sda6 biosgrub 1MB ?
/dev/sda7 lvm 110GB <======== for linux
/dev/sda8 swap 13GB
Windows 8 still installed on /dev/sda4
How do I recreate / repair the /boot/efi (/dev/sda2) ?
So I upgraded my ubuntu to 12.10 but the Windows 7 problem seems to have happened not after doing the upgrade but later. I am not sure. Ubuntu is running fine, but how can I recover my Windows7? I tried running BootRepair in Ubuntu but it keeps scanning system endlessly... If I recover Windows with the Windows DVD I assume I will lose the GRUB menu and then not possible to start Ubuntu. How do i then proceed to recover the GRUB? Can I recover using the Ubuntu DVD?
I have Windows Server 2012 Essentials and I'm trying to set up Anywhere Access so I can remotely access files. This feature was really easy to access in Windows Home Server and I'm trying to duplicate that functionality here.
I've tried going through the Anywhere Access wizard several times but I can't get past the SSL Certificates step. I don't want to purchase a certificate; is there any other way to enable remote file access?
Details
I recently upgraded to Windows 8 Enterprise trial.
After installing, I downloaded the Nvidia Windows 8 x64 install package, and it installed fine.
After rebooting I got a message stating that SLI was disabled.
And in the configuration menu the option to enable SLI is grayed out.
I have confirmed the SLI is connected properly.
Any thoughts?
