  • AdvancedFirewall: Adding a Program to the Inbound Rules

    - by bvanderw
I am writing an application that contains a web server running on port 50000. On Windows 7, short of turning the firewall off completely, I am having trouble configuring the firewall to allow other computers on the same private LAN to connect to the server. Simply adding the program to the allowed programs list doesn't seem to work. The network connection is set to be a "Home" network (but I am not using Home Networking). Can anyone suggest where I should be looking to troubleshoot this? Bruce

  • Spotlight Infinite Indexing issue (external data drive)

    - by Manca Weeks
This is an external drive, formerly a boot drive which is now in use only to access music files (sibelius, audio, midi, live, logic etc.) without transferring the data into a new boot system, partly because of the issue I am about to describe, but mostly because the majority of the data is mainly there for archival purposes. The user is a composer and prominent musician and needs to be able to rehash the data at will. I have tried several things - here is a list: - make complete filesystem clone with antonio diaz's ddrescue - run Disk Warrior on copy, repair whatever errors occurred - wipe out all ACLs on entire drive - set all permissions to the same value - wide open 777 - remove any system data (applications, system files, including hidden files to the best of my knowledge) by selecting only non-system/app data and using Carbon Copy Cloner to put only the data of interest onto a newly formatted drive - transfer data to newly formatted drive folder by folder, resetting the spotlight index in between adding each to observe for issues (interesting here is that no issues occurred except for in Documents folder - when I transferred only the Documents folder to a newly formatted drive on its own - no trouble. It appears almost as thought it may not be the content but the quantity or specific combination of data that results in problems) - use DataRescue to transfer the data to yet another newly formatted drive to expose any missed hidden files Between each of the above steps I stopped Spotlight (search for anything beginning with md in Activity Monitor - All Processes and quitting it), deleted the .Spotlight-V100 directory from the affected drive. Restart Splotlight indexing by adding drive to Spotlight privacy list and removing it. In each case the same issue occurs - Spotlight begins indexing normally (or so it seems), then the index estimated time increases, usually to 4 hours remaining. This is where it gets stuck and continues to predict 4 hours remaining but never finishes. Sometimes I can't eject the drive and have to quit the md.. processes from Activity Monitor to be able to eject the drive without Force Eject. Once I disconnect the drive after the 4 hours remaining situation - if I reattach it, Spotlight forever estimates remaining time and never gets going again. So there it is. It is apparently not a filesystem issue, not a permissions issue and not tied to any particular piece of hardware or protocol (used USB and FW drives). I have tried this on several machines (3 to be precise) and in 10.5.8 and 10.6.5. Simply disabling Spotlight on this volume is not an option because the owner has no clue where things are as the data on the volume dates back to music projects and compositions from 2003 and before. He needs to be able to query for results. Anyone got any ideas? Thanks, M

  • Outlook 2007 to 2010 upgrade - Invisible folders issue

    - by Mahesh
Hi, I upgraded my outlook 2007 to 2010. Everything was smooth, but realised later that, some of the archeive folders are missing. But, When I did a search on my archeive for a mail(exists in missing folder), it is able to show the mail in the search results. It is also showing the missing folder name in the search results. Please let me know why this is happening and a possible resolution. Thanks a lot. Mahesh

  • Windows 98 style flat icons in Windows XP

    - by Senthil
I am using Windows XP. I am tired of looking at the folder icons in Windows XP. I changed the color depth to 256 colors and the folder icons in Windows Explorer changed to the flat - windows 95/98 style icons. I loved them! is there a way to tell windows explorer to show those flat old style icons for folders? without going to 8-bit? Note: I am okay with going down from 32-bit, but 8 is way too low to work with.

  • Regarding Unix Move Command

    - by user38993
I need to write an Unix Shell Script tran.sh that moves the csv input files from /exp/files folder to /exp/ready directory. The csv input files are written to /exp/files folder by an FTP server whose behavior I cannot trivially change. In tran.sh shell script I need to ensure before doing a move of that csv input file from /exp/files directory no longer any other process is writing to the file. How can I do it.

  • Forcing tar to create an empty archive

    - by snostorm
I'm trying to use tar to tar files before transfer, so I can keep the entire file path rather than losing it along the way. However, when I try to tar an empty folder, it tells me that it is cowardly refusing to create an empty archive. I want to keep the empty folder on the other end, but don't want to put anything else into the archive to make it non-empty. Is there any way to do this?

  • Upload Picture File Paths to Database Without Creating Multiple Records and Giving The Files Random Names

    - by user1830990
I want to be able upload pictures to a folder and their filepaths to a MySQL database without creating multiple records. For example instead of: id PicturePath size 1 file1.jpg 90832 2 file2.jpg 84593 I want to do: id PicturePath1 PicturePath2 PicturePath3 1 file1.jpg file3.jpg file5.jpg And also as it uploads, it should change the name of the original file e.g. if User uploads DSC0009.jpg it should upload into the file upload folder and MySQL Database as: someRandomFileName8087935.jpg

  • mac's .dll equivalent

    - by kalaracey
Hello all-- so, a DLL is similar to a folder, but it allows for multiple programs/executables to access it at once, thus conserving memory (I think). What is Mac's equivalent of a DLL? I was looking through the Google Chrome folders inside ~/Library/Application Support, and instead of the regular Windows Default.dll there was just a folder, "Default" as a regular file, with contents, I assume, would regularly be inside the DLL. Does the Mac equivalent provide the same function?

  • Varnish server in front of nginx server with multiple virtualhosts

    - by Garreth 00
I have tried to search for a solution for this, but can't find any documentation/tips on my specific setup. My setup: Backendserver: ngnix: 2 different websites (2 top domains) in virtualenv, running gunicorn/python/django Backendserver hardware(VPS) 2gb ram, 8 CPU Databaseserver: postgresql - pg_bouncer Backendserver hardware (VPS) 1gb ram, 8 CPU Varnishserver: only running varnish Varnishserver hardware (VPS) 1gb ram, 8 CPU I'm trying to set up a varnish server to handle rare spike in traffic (20 000 unique req/s) The spike happens when a tv program mention one of the sites. What do I need to do, to make the varnish server cache both sites/domains on my backendserver? My /etc/varnish/default.vcl : backend django_backend { .host = "local.backendserver.com"; .port = "8080"; } My /usr/local/nginx/site-avaible/domain1.com upstream gunicorn_domain1 { server unix:/home/<USER>/.virtualenvs/<DOMAIN1>/<APP1>/run/gunicorn.sock fail_timeout=0; } server { listen 80; listen 8080; server_name domain1.com; rewrite ^ http://www.domains.com$request_uri? permanent; } server { listen 80 default_server; listen 8080; client_max_body_size 4G; server_name www.domain1.com; keepalive_timeout 5; # path for static files root /home/<USER>/<APP>-media/; location / { proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_set_header Host $http_host; proxy_redirect off; if (!-f $request_filename) { proxy_pass http://gunicorn_domain1; break; } } } My /usr/local/nginx/site-avaible/domain2.com upstream gunicorn_domain2 { server unix:/home/<USER>/.virtualenvs/<DOMAIN2>/<APP2>/run/gunicorn.sock fail_timeout=0; } server { listen 80; listen 8080; server_name domain2.com; rewrite ^ http://www.domains.com$request_uri? permanent; } server { listen 80; listen 8080; client_max_body_size 4G; server_name www.domain2.com; keepalive_timeout 5; # path for static files root /home/<USER>/<APP>-media/; location / { proxy_set_header X-Forwarded-For $proxy_add_x_forwarded_for; proxy_set_header Host $http_host; proxy_redirect off; if (!-f $request_filename) { proxy_pass http://gunicorn_domain2; break; } } } Right now, If I try the Ip of the varnishserver I only get served domain1.com. Would everything be correct if I change the DNS of the two domain to point to the varnishserver, or is there extra setup before it would work? Question 2: Do I need a dedicated server for varnish, or could I just install varnish on my backendserver, or would the server run out of memory quick?

My Nginx setting currently has this: location / { if (!-e $request_filename){ rewrite ^/(.*)$ https://domain.com/index.php?id=$1 redirect; } } Basically for non-existing pages (404) it redirects user to the home page. But now I have a wordpress blog setup at https://domain.com/blog/, but any wordpress items eg. https://domain.com/blog/test also got redirected to the home page. I wonder how to fix this?

  • Make mod_wsgi use python2.7.2 instead of python2.6?

    - by guron
i am running Ubuntu 10.04.1 LTS and it came pre-packed with python2.6 but i need to replace it with python2.7.2. (The reason is simple, 2.7 has a lot of features backported from 3 ) i had installed python2.7.2 using ./configure make make altinstall the altinstall option installed it, without touching the system default version, to /usr/local/lib/python2.7 and placed the interpreter in /usr/local/bin/python2.7 Then to help mod_wsgi find python2.7 i added the following to /etc/apache2/sites-available/wsgisite WSGIPythonHome /usr/local i start apache and run a test wsgi app BUT i am greeted by python 2.6.5 and not Python2.7 Later i replaced the default python simlink to point to python 2.7 ln -f /usr/local/bin/python2.7 /usr/bin/python Now typing 'python' on the console opens python2.7 but somehow mod_wsgi still picks up python2.6 Next i tried, PATH=/usr/local/bin:$PATH export PATH then do a quick restart apache, but yet again its python2.6 !! • How to copy directory from one Linux server to another with a minimum in-between period?

    - by yegor256
I have a rather big directory on one server (over 4000 files), which I'd like to copy to another server (which contains a previous version of this directory). rsync is the first option, but it will put the destination folder into waiting status for a rather long period of time (more than a minute). I'd like to do it a bit differently: gzip the source folder scp the archive to the destination server gunzip the file there delete the archive at the source and the destination What is the best way to accomplish all this?

  • Slash after domain in URL missing for Rails site

    - by joshee
After redirecting users in a Rails app, for some reason the slash after the domain is missing. Generated URLs are invalid and I'm forced to manually correct them. The problem only occurs on a subdomain. On a different primary domain (same server), everything works ok. For example, after logging out, the site is directing to https://www.sub.domain.comlogin/ rather than https://www.sub.domain.com/login I suspect the issue has something to do with the vhost setup, but I'm not sure. Here are the broken and working vhosts: BROKEN SUBDOMAIN <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName www.sub.domain.com ServerAlias sub.domain.com Redirect permanent / https://www.sub.domain.com </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:443> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName www.sub.domain.com ServerAlias sub.domain.com RailsEnv production # SSL Engine Switch SSLEngine on # SSL Cipher Suite: SSLCipherSuite ALL:!ADH:!EXPORT56:RC4+RSA:+HIGH:+MEDIUM:+LOW:+SSLv2:+EXP:+eNULL # Server Certificate SSLCertificateFile /path/to/server.crt # Server Private Key SSLCertificateKeyFile /path/to/server.key # Set header to indentify https requests for Mongrel RequestHeader set X_FORWARDED_PROTO "https" BrowserMatch ".*MSIE.*" \ nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown \ downgrade-1.0 force-response-1.0 DocumentRoot /home/usr/www/www.sub.domain.com/current/public/ <Directory "/home/usr/www/www.sub.domain.com/current/public"> AllowOverride all Allow from all Options -MultiViews </Directory> WORKING PRIMARY DOMAIN <VirtualHost *:80> ServerName www.diffdomain.com ServerAlias diffdomain.com Redirect permanent / https://www.diffdomain.com </VirtualHost> <VirtualHost *:443> ServerAdmin [email protected] ServerName www.diffdomain.com ServerAlias diffdomain.com ServerAlias *.diffdomain.com RailsEnv production # SSL Engine Switch SSLEngine on # SSL Cipher Suite: SSLCipherSuite ALL:!ADH:!EXPORT56:RC4+RSA:+HIGH:+MEDIUM:+LOW:+SSLv2:+EXP:+eNULL # Server Certificate SSLCertificateFile /path/to/server.crt # Server Private Key SSLCertificateKeyFile /path/to/server.key # Set header to indentify https requests for Mongrel RequestHeader set X_FORWARDED_PROTO "https" BrowserMatch ".*MSIE.*" \ nokeepalive ssl-unclean-shutdown \ downgrade-1.0 force-response-1.0 DocumentRoot /home/usr/www/www.diffdomain.com/current/public/ <Directory "/home/usr/www/www.diffdomain.com/current/public"> AllowOverride all Allow from all Options -MultiViews </Directory> </VirtualHost> Please let me know if there's anything else I could provide that would help determine what's wrong here. • Real performance gain from faster IDE or SATA hard drive?

    - by raw_noob
How much of a real-world performance gain would you expect from: replacing a 5400rpm IDE HD with a 7200rpm IDE HD? replacing a 5400rpm IDE HD with a SATA-150? It's assumed that the drive in question is both the system drive and the only drive. A modest AMD Sempron-based home computer with adequate DDR memory running Windows XP Home SP3. Thanks for looking.

  • Force Windows 7 to store thumbnails locally

    - by kotekzot
I want Windows 7 to store thumbnails cache files in the same folder as the files (thumbs.db) instead of using the centralized location for all thumbnails (By default %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer). How would one achieve this effect? Alternatively, if the former is implausible, I'd settle for no thumbnail caching at all, forcing Windows to regenerate thumbnails each time a folder is accessed.
