Pure Chat looked great but it was discontinued. Damn.
Any other great chat programs for ASP.NET? Looking for one that can be used in Operator Help mode.
Hi
Does someone know a good way to automate the gui testing based on an Asp.Net frontend? (instead of always run the pages and test the inputs and outputs of a control by hand)
Are there any references or framework to support these tests?
Thanks
Hi.
Is there any way how to work with complex types in asp.net dynamic data web site?
If we have Entity(ie from EF) "Person" with complex type "Address", "Table.GetScaffoldColumns()" does not returns comlumns for property of type "Address".
Thank you.
I want to write an asynchronous action in ASP.NET MVC 2 that waits up to 5 seconds for an event to occur. If the event occurs then the server responds with a result, otherwise the request times out.
What is the best way to achieve this?
Same as Title.
Has anyone found a way to make the ADO.NET Entity Framework work with OLE DB or ODBC data sources? Specifically, I need to work with an SqlServer2000.
I'm doing the simplest ajax request possible:
public ActionResult SayHello()
{
return Content("YYAAAY");
}
//////////
<div id="Div1">
<%= Ajax.ActionLink("SAY HELLO", "SayHello", new AjaxOptions { UpdateTargetId = "Div1" })%>
</div>
It works when I start an empty ASP.NET MVC project, but when I use it in my current project, it displays the whole page recursively instead of YYAAAY phrase only.
Where might be the problem?
I am looking for a .Net CMS that allows me to expose pages/articles that are created in the CMS to other applications without querying the CMS database. Preferably this would be done through an API and by exposing them through a custom secured webservice.
I know Sitefinity can do this.
Do you know if
Umbraco
DotNetNuke
can do this?
If yes, a link to some documentation of the API is appreciated!
Hi,

Is it possible to have security in ASP.NET MVC configurable at runtime? For example, if I have a controller that has been marked as
[Authorize(Roles="Admin")]
Is there a way to add/remove roles at runtime? Or, do you have to change it in code and re-compile?
Good day
The question is: Could anyone give me an example about how to do fuzzy matching of two strings using Lucene.NET (or using Java version of Lucene, or in any other language that has port of Lucene).
Hello,
I'm using .NET and I'm able to geolocate user city by IP.
I was wondering is there easy way to get user timezone by long. and lang. or city name.
Thank You
Hi,
In .NET is it possible to get the HttpContext of the current page from within an external class?
So, for example in my page test1.aspx codebehind I've got:
Dim blah As New FeedWriter()
blah.Run()
But inside FeedWriter.vb, can I get the HttpContext of test1.aspx? Or would I have to pass it in to Run()? (I'm unwilling to do the latter because FeedWriter implements an interface which will need to be re-written if it's to take arguments)
Cheers,
Matt
Greetings,
in my ASP.NET MVC application I've created a custom MembershipProvider. It works fine, however when user is successfully logged, I would like to create an Operator object and make it possible to access this object on every controller and view. I was thinking about session to do this but when session expires this object is null but user that had been logged using MembershipProvider is still logged in. Is there any way I can store my Operator object in MembershipProvider and access it on every controller and view I need?
I'm not that up on VB.NET, the application I'm working on was not written by myself.
It works fine through the IDE but once I run it from the exe it gives me the above error.
Any clues?
This is really hacking me off!
Hi there,
I am currently building a webshop for my own where I want to increment the product-stock when the user fails to complete payment within 10 minutes after the customer placed the order. I want to gather information from this thread to make a design decision.
I am using SQL Server 2008 and ASP.NET 3.5. Should I use a SQL Server Job who intervals check the orders which are not payed yet or are there better solutions to do this.
Thanks in advance!

I want to use YUI Compressor (the original) and use it as part of typical MS build processes (Visual Studio 2008, MSBuild).
Does anyone have any guidance or thoughts on this? For example, good ways for incorporating into project, what to do with existing CSS and JS references, and the like.
I am happy to hear on the benefits of YUI Compressor .NET and alternatives but I'm mor einterested in use of the original.
Thanks
Scott
I have added fckeditor in my asp.net(vb) web site but i don't know how add pages to update at run time?

Hello
I am wondering how agile (fast to develop yet stable) asp.net MVC compared to frameworks using dynamic languages such as Django or Ruby on Rails.
I will be happy if you share you experiance in the name of development speed (assuming each language/framework is known at a similar level)
Things I love about Django
Fast model design thanks to ORM
Good template system
Not too hard to deploy
Easy to extend
Lots of free apps to plugin and great documentation
Thanks
What is the best way to support multiple languages for the interface in an ASP.NET MVC application. I've seen people use resource files for other applications. Is this still the best way?
I'm currently supporting a Python web app with increasingly complicated user/role/permission management requirements. Currently, we are rolling our own user, groups, permissions, etc. code and supporting database.
I'd like to find something like ASP.NET membership that can help manage user authentication and authorization, rather than risk security issues in continuing to create an increasingly complicated custom solution. Are there any similar projects out there worth taking a look at?
I've seen some discussion on why c# does not implement multiple inheritance but very little as to why it isn't supported in vb. I understand that both c# and vb are compiled down to intermediary language and so they both need to share similar restrictions.
The lack of multiple inheritance in VB seems to have been given as one reason for the lack of the feature in dot net. Does anyone know why VB doesn't support multiple inheritance? I'm hoping for a bit of history lesson and discussion on why this was never considered for VB.
I have a Linq to SQL data model that uses single table inheritance.
I created a new ASP.net Dynamic Data web site with all table scaffolding enabled, but I can't see any of the derived classes in my data model being scaffolded.
Is this by design?
I am developing a website in ASP.NET MVC using C#. It works fine on my machine, however when I load it to the production server it generates an error trying to present the home page.
The error is caused by the fact that the ASP system is compiling the .ascx pages using Visual Basic, which, of course, does not work since all of the code is in C#.
How do I fix this?
