  • Uninstalled aplications still show launcher icons under installed aplications?

    - by ilesal
The question is in the title, I always remove applications that I do not use after installing or upgrading, this includes games etc (wish it was possible to install Ubuntu with no applications then add the ones I require after, is this possible?) Anyway after removing the applications they still show under the installed applications menu, if you click on them nothing happens but how do I get rid of the remaining icons?

  • Making a Linux laptop flight-safe; disabling wireless/radio

    - by SpoonMeiser
I'm going on a long flight tomorrow, and would like to be able to use my laptop during the journey. Wireless devices like WiFi and bluetooth interfere with airplanes instruments, and shouldn't be used on flights. If my laptop does not have a physical rf-kill switch, is it sufficient to just ensure that the relevant modules do not get loaded? If so, is that always safe, or does it vary between different hardware? My particular situation, is a Samsung NC10 netbook. Atheros 5k wireless hardware. Debian sid with kernel 2.6.30-1-686. However, I think it'd be interesting to know the answer to this question for the general case; not just my specific case.

  • Slow Internet / Can't change brightness on 2010 Macbook AIr running 12.10 Ubuntu

    - by user103441
The title really says it all. I haven't been able to change the brightness of my monitor since putting Ubuntu on it. I started off with 12.04 and then decided to see if 12.10 would fix the issue. The internet is also a fair bit slower than I am used to, especially when downloading. Apart from these two issues, everything goes very smoothly. If anyone could offer any advice or solutions, I would be very grateful.

  • My CPU hits 100°C... Help me!

    - by JamesT
The safe limit for processors is typically 50°C or so, but I have found that my CPU likes to do up to 100°C. I have got these readings from SpeedFan 4.42. I have a Intel Quad Core unclocked. I am using the standard intel fan with heatsink that came with the prossesor My case is a Cooler Master and I have two fans installed on the case. I took the side off to see if that helped. It lowered the temp be 3C. I don't really want to blow the processor and I don't know how to cool it down.

  • How to completely install wine

    - by user164131
I installed wine by doing sudo apt-get install wine and everything went well, but at the end I get the "Package configuration" and the title says configuring ttf-mscorefonts-installer and they talk about 1.GRANT OF LICENSE 2.DESCRIPITION OF OTHER GRANTS AND LIMITATIONS 3.COPYRIGHT U.S. GOVERNMENT RESTRICTED RIGHTS The problem is that they give all this at the end but there is nothing I can do say "ok" or something, thus, wine is not installed. Any help please?

  • Configure Linux server hardware buttons for soft reset or power cycle?

    - by Jakobud
I have a small modest CentOS server at home. I run it headless because anytime I access it, it's always via SSH. Anyways, tonight it became unresponsive to the network. I could not connect to it to investigate. In this case, I have to hook up a keyboard and monitor to see the problem. I ended up just rebooting it. But after this experience, I was wondering if it's possible to configure the hardware buttons on the CPU case to perform a graceful reboot or graceful power cycle in Linux. Even though the server becomes unresponsive once in a blue moon, it would be nice to simply press a button and have it shutdown all services and gracefully reboot. Anyone know how this could be accomplished?

  • New Kingson SSD drive fails after 1 week

    - by user35356
I upgraded the hard disk in my notebook to a 128GB Kingston SSD V100. Everything worked fine for about a week then out of the blue the notebook would not boot up any more. A black dos-like screen was shown with the options to try and boot normally or attempt to repair windows. Neither option would do anything. When I removed the drive and tested it in an external usb case no other computers are able to access the drive either. Is there anything I can try to fix it myself? The drive is partitioned into three drives and when it's connected through an external usb case to another computer I can see the partitions, just can't access anything on them. Does this mean the drive might be recoverable?

  • UITabbleView Sections /cellForRowAtIndexPath method

    - by treasure
hello, i have a sectioned tableview in a detailviewcontroller where i load some data in the first section. this is my code: - (UITableViewCell *)tableView:(UITableView *)tableView cellForRowAtIndexPath:(NSIndexPath *)indexPath { static NSString *CellIdentifier = @"Cell"; UITableViewCell *cell = [tableView dequeueReusableCellWithIdentifier:CellIdentifier]; if (cell == nil) { cell = [[[UITableViewCell alloc] initWithStyle:UITableViewCellStyleValue2 reuseIdentifier:CellIdentifier] autorelease]; } // For the Ingredients section, if necessary create a new cell and configure it with an additional label for the amount. • iPhone UIWebView local resources using Javascript and handling onorientationChange

    - by Dougnukem
    I'm trying to server HTML Javascript and CSS content from an iPhone application's local resources, and I'm having trouble handling onOrientationChange events and including external Javascript. I seem to be able to link in CSS properly but not javascript. I'm trying to use the following example of handling onOrientationChange (How to build an iPhone website) but I'm serving the webpage from my app's NSBundle mainBundle. I tried attaching a javascript function to body.onorientationchange and to window.onorientationchange but neither work when served from UIWebView locally (or remotely), but it works if I'm using the iPhone Safari. <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head> <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> <title>How to build an iPhone website</title> <meta name="author" content="will" /> <meta name="copyright" content="copyright 2008 www.engageinteractive.co.uk" /> <meta name="description" content="Welcome to engege interactive on the iPhone!" /> <meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width; initial-scale=1.0; maximum-scale=1.0;"> <link rel="apple-touch-icon" href="images/template/engage.png"/> <style type="text/css"> @import url("iphone.css"); </style> <!-- <script type="text/javascript" src="orientation.js"></script> --> <script type="text/javascript"> function updateOrientation(){ try { var contentType = "show_normal"; switch(window.orientation){ case 0: contentType = "show_normal"; break; case -90: contentType = "show_right"; break; case 90: contentType = "show_left"; break; case 180: contentType = "show_flipped"; break; } document.getElementById("page_wrapper").setAttribute("class", contentType); //alert('ORIENTATION: ' + contentType); } catch(e) { alert('ERROR:' + e.message); } } window.onload = function initialLoad(){ try { loaded(); updateOrientation(); } catch(e) { alert('ERROR:' + e.message); } } function loaded() { document.getElementById("page_wrapper").style.visibility = "visible"; } </script> </head> <body onorientationchange="updateOrientation();"> <div id="page_wrapper"> <h1>Engage Interactive</h1> <div id="content_left"> <p>You are now holding your phone to the left</p> </div> <div id="content_right"> <p>You are now holding your phone to the right</p> </div> <div id="content_normal"> <p>You are now holding your phone upright</p> </div> <div id="content_flipped"> <p>This doesn't work yet, but there is a chance apple will enable it at some point, so I've put it in anyway.
