I first installed Microsoft SQL Server 2008 Express and tried to restore it in MS SQL management studio express but it didn't work because there is a size limit. Does anybody know a method how i can restore the file? Its the first time I work with Microsoft SQL and I have no clue what to do. Its really urgend and I would be really helpful for any help! Thanks a lot!

I'm new to Sybase and so far it's a monumental pain just to connect to it! Where in the world can I get 64 bit drivers for Sybase ASE 15 so that I can connect from my 64 bit SQL 2008? Our Sybase servers are 32 bit and there are no 64 bit drivers on the media :(
Hello everyone,
I am using SQL Server 2008 Enterprise. I met with issue which says line 9 of stored procedure foo is meeting with dead lock issue. My question is how to find exactly the 9th line of the stored procedure?
My confusion is because of coding format issue, how to locate 9th line correctly.
thanks in advance,
George
I'm using SMS 2008 & I'm looking for where the registered servers are stores on my local machine. I have searched the registry with no luck.

In my database running on SQL Server 2008 R2 I have a special table for global variables:
CREATE TABLE global_variables
(
name NVARCHAR(50),
value NVARCHAR(50) NOT NULL
CONSTRAINT PK_global_variables PRIMARY KEY CLUSTERED
(
name ASC
) WITH (PAD_INDEX = OFF, STATISTICS_NORECOMPUTE = OFF, IGNORE_DUP_KEY = OFF, ALLOW_ROW_LOCKS = ON, ALLOW_PAGE_LOCKS = ON) ON [PRIMARY]
) ON [PRIMARY]
GO
Does such table require indexing on value or not?
I just want to make sure I'm understanding the documentation correctly. If I add System.Data.SqlServerCe as a reference in my Visual Studio 2008 project, compile it, and copy the contents of the "bin\Release" directory to a Windows machine that has the latest version of the .NET framework, will it just work? Or do I need to do something else?
I'd like to know if it is possible to have this application (neo4j) running on windows server 2008 alongside an asp.net mvc application. Reason for this, I need to access the graph database (neo4j) which provides a RESTful service from my mvc application. How would I go about setting up this architecture?
I use WebClient from System.Net Namespace of Visual Studio 2008 to download the HTML content.
It done well with normal website but with some 4rum that require authorization such as warez-bb.org, it always return the HTML of the login page.
I wonder if there is a way to send the username and password to the WebClient?
We use SQL server 2008 as our RDBMS and we have a database that has a different user rather than dbo as its owner.
The problem is in one machine a stored procedure can not run unless its owner is mentioned.
If we connect to our database using this user and try to execute the following :
exec ourSP
we get a "could not find ourSP" error but this works fine:
exec user.ourSP
Does anybody knows what can lead to such a strange behavior?
Hello,
I have created a program that write video stream to a named pipe on windows, using Visual Studio C++ 2008 . how to be sequre that no one exept programms on this computer can acsess this pipe?
npipe = CreateNamedPipe("\\\\.\\pipe\\TestChannel", PIPE_ACCESS_DUPLEX, PIPE_TYPE_MESSAGE | PIPE_WAIT, PIPE_UNLIMITED_INSTANCES , 1024, 1024,5000,NULL);
So SQL Server 2008 in Hyper-V is a supported configuration, and should perform well as long as you use fixed or pass-through disks and increase your processor/memory settings appropriately. My question is can I use snapshots as a reliable backup mechanism, or should I use the tried and trusted maintenance plan to do my backups?
I am a SQL Server (2005 & 2008) data warehouse developer (SSIS, SSAS, SSRS, SQL) and I am wondering if it would be worth the effort and time to learn Powershell scripting. Are there applicable uses from a development perspective? I understand that from a DBA view there is considerable power in Powershell for administration - does any of this translate to useful commands for a developer?
Thanks!
I'm trying to use a dynamically generated fully-qualified table name in sql server 2008. For example, this does not work:
select max([id]) from @dbName+N'.[T1]'
This will give an error like:
Msg 102, Level 15, State 1, Line 73
Incorrect syntax near '+'.
I know that something like this works:
declare @qualifiedTable varchar(200) = @dbName+N'.[T1]'
select max([id]) from @qualifiedTable
But I have to do this LOTS of times so I would really like to do it in line. Is it possible?
I have the problem that C++ compiler does a recompile without any changes done.
Does anyone of you know how to get a list on criterias why VisualStudio decides to start a compilation.
Is it possible in Visual Studio 2008, either with or without Resharper, to re-order methods in a class file to match the order of methods in an associated interface file? What about the opposite (re-ordering the interface to match the implementing class)?
I had this script which worked in sql server 2005
-- t-sql scriptlet to drop all constraints on a table
DECLARE @database nvarchar(50)
DECLARE @table nvarchar(50)
set @database = 'dotnetnuke'
set @table = 'tabs'
DECLARE @sql nvarchar(255)
WHILE EXISTS(select * from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLE_CONSTRAINTS where constraint_catalog = @database and table_name = @table)
BEGIN
select @sql = 'ALTER TABLE ' + @table + ' DROP CONSTRAINT ' + CONSTRAINT_NAME
from INFORMATION_SCHEMA.TABLE_CONSTRAINTS
where constraint_catalog = @database and
table_name = @table
exec sp_executesql @sql
END
It does not work in SQL Server 2008. How can I easily drop all foreign key constraints for a certain table? Does anyone have a better script?
I backed up a SQL Server 2005 database and restored it to a new SQL 2008 instance. The restore was quick and successful. Everything was fine for an hour or so.
Suddenly, the database is now stuck in "(Restoring...)" state in Management Studio and has a green arrow icon, and my application login is failing!
Any advice? :-)
Hi, I need to change the database name in SQL SERVER 2008 and use it in another project. However it consist hundreds of stored procedures and the name of the database should be changed in the stored procedures as well. Is there any way to do this?
Is there a way to specify, for example 4 distinct values for a varchar column in MS SQL Server 2008?
For example, I need a column called Frequency (varchar) that only accepts 'Daily', 'Weekly', 'Monthly', 'Yearly' as possible values
Is this possible to set within the SQL Server Management Studio when creating the table?
So I have a number of namedRanges in an excel worksheet. I would like to use these to fill in comboboxes on a user form in the same WorkBook.
I have tried:
cboMember.DataSource = Globals.Sheet1.MemberRange.Value
No error is given but the combo is blank. Does anybody have any ideas?
I'm trying to use VSTO for VS 2008 on an excel 2003 work book.
Even if I have made a certification exam on Sql Server Design and implementation , I have no clue about how to trace/debug/optimise performance in Sql Sever.
Now the database I built is really business critical, and getting big, so it is time for me to dig into optimisation, specially regarding when/where to add indexes.
Can you recommend a good book on this subject ? (smaller is better :)
Just in case: I am using Sql Server 2008.
Thanks
