Is there any way showing the detailed exception for String or binary data would be truncated.
I use LINQ to SQL and i cant figure out which column is that!?
Tried numerous things but i get the same meaningless error i got from within Visual Studio.
Also I use .NET 3.5 SP1, but errors are still returned useless.
I was wondering if it's possible to do something like this (which doesn't work):
select cast( (exists(select * from theTable where theColumn like 'theValue%') as bit)
Seems like it should be doable, but lots of things that should work in SQL don't ;) I've seen workarounds for this (SELECT 1 where... Exists...) but it seems like I should be able to just cast the result of the exists function as a bit and be done with it.
Does closing a java.sql.Connection also close all the statements, prepared statements, etc. obtained from that connection? Or is there going to be memory leak if I close the connection but leave the statements, etc. unclosed?

Hello Everybody,
I've got a question regarding a SQL-select-query:
The table contains several columns, one of which is an Integer-column called "size" - the task I'm trying to perform is query the table for the sum of all rows (their values), or to be more exact get a artifical column in my ResultSet called "overallSize" which contains the sum of all "size"-values in the table. Preferable it would be possible to use a WHERE-clause to add only certain values ("WHERE bla = 5" or something similar).
The DB-engine is HSQLDB (HyperSQL), which is compliant to SQL2008.
Thank you in advance :)
I am trying to output a long XML result from SMSS.
When I right click on the results and 'save results as...', I can only get a 2mb file?
I have changed the settings in SMSS via Tools - Options - Query Results - SQL Server - Results to Grid, for XML data to be unlimited.
Forever, it still seems to be truncating my XML results?
So, how can I bypass this problem and output my XML result to a file?
Thanks
E.g.
Declare @str varchar2(20)
Set @str = 'A Student'
Select Reverse(@str)
Output:
tnedutS A
Expected being:
Student A
The output(using Reverse) is as expected. But my requirement is the one described.
Help needed with SET BASED.

What is a candidate row when talking about Oracle and SQL? Using it in a sentence would be as such:
"The candidate row is fetched from the table specified in the outer query."
Hi I've got some SQL ...
SELECT
AdviceNo,
Registration
FROM tblSalesDetail
that produces something like ...

ADV00003, HUY789
ADV00003, MJS532
ADV00003, JFY428
Can anyone tell me how I'd adjust it to see the following please?
ADV00001, ABC123, 1
ADV00001, CDE564, 2
ADV00002, FGE432, 1
ADV00003, HUY789, 1
ADV00003, MJS532, 2

Hi,
I have an SQL query that returns an amount of tuples (about 50).
Now I need to display the results, 15 tuples at a time, then I will have a "view more" button to view the next 15 results.
Can you please help me how I can make this? The issue is that I cannot use the 'limits' because each time I run the query the results will be different, hence when pressing view more, I may get the same results of the same page.
thanks
This simple query throws the "Ambiguous column name TaskID" error on one db-server only. This is ridiculous. We tested this with the same database structure on different servers and different versions of ms sql (2005/2008), and it's only THIS particular client's server that throws the error. I'm actually frustrated.
SELECT Tasks.TaskID
FROM Tasks
INNER JOIN TaskHelpers ON TaskHelpers.TaskID = Tasks.TaskID
order by TaskID
Yes, I know I can put "Tasks.TaskID" into the order by clause, but for some reasons I can't.
Hi
I am creating a stored procedure to which i want to pass as variable a comma delimited list of Ids
I want to use the Ids into a select statement
something like
Create Procedure up_TEST
@Ids VARCHAR(MAX)

SELECT * FROM ATable a
WHERE a.Id IN(@Ids)
Obviously i get the error that @Ids is a varchar and not an INT but how can i convert the comma delimited list
I am using SQL Server 2008

I store an XML string in a column in my SQL Server database. I'm trying to run an UPDATE statement that will make a certain field into Upper Case. I can do that easily during a SELECT but can't get it to work with an update.
This SELECT statement works
select Upper(XmlTest.value('(/CodeFiveReport/Owner/@UnitNumber)[1]', 'varchar(10)')) as UnitNumber
from uploadreport
But I want to update it the XML as that permanently
Update table Set XmlString.Modify('replace value of (/Root/Node/@Field)[1] with ?
I am getting a SqlConnection does not support parallel transactions. exception and this answer mentions its when a connection tries to open two transactions. This is exactly what i am doing. I thought nested transactions were ok (i was using sqlite for the prototype).
How do i check if the connection is already in a transaction? I am using Microsoft SQL Server Database File.

Trying to convert this tax-like IRS function http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1817920/calculating-revenue-share-at-different-tiers to SQL. The assumption is the table would be one column (price) and the tiers will be added dynamically.
My first attempt has some case statements that didn't work out well. I have since scrapped it :) Thanks for the help!
I have two tables that have relationship with UserName field. Based on UserName column, I want to get ID from CarReserve table. Here is my SQL statement:
SELECT CarReserve.ID
FROM CarReserve
INNER JOIN aspnet_Users ON CarReserve.UserName = aspnet_Users.UserName
WHERE UserName = @UserName
Unfortunately, I am getting this warning:
Ambiguous column name "UserName"
Can anyone here tell me what is wrong with my statement?
Hi,

Hi, I have two dates of the form Start Date: 2007-03-24, End Date: 2009-06-26
Now I need to find the difference between these two in the below form:
2 years, 3 months and 2 days
Can someone please … in SQL Server 2005
I have table similar to the following:
Year | Product | Value
2006 A 10
2006 B 20
2006 C 30
2007 A 40
2007 B 50
2007 C 60
I would like a query that would return the following comparison
Product | 2006 Value | 2007 Value
A 10 40
B 20 50
C 30 60
What are the options to do so? Can it be done without joins?
I'm working with DB2, but answers in all SQL types would be helpful.
Hi,
I have a server where I installed SQL Server 2008 and after I applied the SP1.
Now, I want also to add the Analysis Services to this instance by using the "Add or remove features...".
My questions are:
Is it possible to add the Analysis Services on a server with SP1 already installed?
How can I apply the SP1 also to the new Analysis Service feature?
THANKS!
