  • Unlimited Detail Graphics Engine

    - by daddz
So I stumbled upon this "new" graphics engine/technology called Unlimited Detail. This seems to be pretty interesting granted it's real and not a fake. They have some videos explaining the technology but they only scratch the surface. What do you think about it? Is it programmatically possible? Or is it just a scam for investors?

  • Where can I find good tutorials on XSL-FO (Formating/ed Objects), the stuff one feeds to fop and get

    - by Gustavo Carreno
On a company that I've worked, me and my colleagues, implemented a tailored document distribution system on top of XSL-FO. My task was to get the script to deliver the documents and configure the CUPS print server and the Fax server, so I never had the time to get my hands dirty on XSL-FO. I'm thinking of implementing something in the region that was made there but I'll need some templates to work with while testing. Where can I find some good tutorials on XSL-FO, since the fop process I've mastered already?

  • How to create custom asp.net validator that works with UpdatePanel?

    - by Goran
I think that subject summs it pretty well... I have created my custom validators that work great when I put them on page in design mode. However if I place them in a usercontrol, and then try to add this user control to the parent page via updatepanel, then my custom validators just won't trigger. They simply don't work. Does anyone have any clue on what I have to do here? .net 3.5

  • Is this good code? Linked List Stack Implementation

    - by Quik Tester
I have used the following code for a stack implementation. The top keeps track of the topmost node of the stack. Now since top is a data member of the node function, each node created will have a top member, which ideally we wouldn't want. Firstly, is this good approach to coding? Secondly, will making top as static make it a better coding practice? Or should I have a global declaration of top? #include<iostream> using namespace std; class node { int data; node *top; node *link; public: node() { top=NULL; link=NULL; } void push(int x) { node *n=new node; n->data=x; n->link=top; top=n; cout<<"Pushed "<<n->data<<endl; } void pop() { node *n=new node; n=top; top=top->link; n->link=NULL; cout<<"Popped "<<n->data<<endl; delete n; } void print() { node *n=new node; n=top; while(n!=NULL) { cout<<n->data<<endl; n=n->link; } delete n; } }; int main() { node stack; stack.push(5); stack.push(7); stack.push(9); stack.pop(); stack.print(); } Any other suggestions welcome. I have also seen codes where there are two classes, where the second one has the top member. What about this? Thanks. :)

  • Byte = 8bits, but why doesn't BitConverter think so

    - by Paul Farry
Given the following information Public Enum Request As Byte None = 0 Identity = 1 License = 2 End Enum Protected mType As Communication.Request mType = Communication.Request.Identity Debug.Print (BitConverter.GetBytes(mType).Length.tostring) 2 Why does bitconverter report that mType is a length of 2. I would have thought that passing a Byte into BitConverter.GetBytes would just return the Byte. I mean it's no big deal because it's only sending a very small block of data across a TCP Socket, but I'm just intrigued why it thinks it's 2 bytes.

So I went looking for the UISearchBarBackground.h file and cannot find it. Does any know where the definition is hiding?

  • help fixing pagination class

    - by michael
    here is my pagination class. the data in the construct is just an another class that does db queries and other stuff. the problem that i am having is that i cant seem to get the data output to match the pagination printing and i cant seem to get the mysql_fetch_assoc() to query the data and print it out. i get this error: Warning: mysql_fetch_assoc(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /phpdev/pagination/index.php on line 215 i know that can mean that the query isnt correct for it to fetch the data but i have entered it correctly. sorry for the script being a little long. i thank all in advance for any help. <?php include_once("class.db.php"); mysql_connect("host","login","password"); mysql_select_db("iadcart"); class Pagination { var $adjacents; var $limit; var $param; var $mPage; var $query; var $qData; var $printData; protected $db; function __construct() { $this->db = new MysqlDB; } function show() { $result = $this->db->query($this->query); $totalPages = $this->db->num_rows($result); $limit = $this->limit; /* ------------------------------------- Set Page ------------------------------------- */ if(isset($_GET['page'])) { $page = intval($_GET['page']); $start = ($page - 1) * $limit; } else { $start = 0; } /* ------------------------------------- Set Page Vars ------------------------------------- */ if($page == 0) { $page = 1; } $prev = $page - 1; $next = $page + 1; $lastPage = ceil($totalPages/$limit); $lpm1 = $lastPage - 1; $adjacents = $this->adjacents; $mPage = $this->mPage; //the magic $this->qData = $this->query .   • PyQt threads and signals - how to properly retrieve values

    - by Cawas
Using Python 2.5 and PyQt, I couldn't find any question this specific in Python, so sorry if I'm repeating the other Qt referenced questions below, but I couldn't easily understand that C code. I've got two classes, a GUI and a thread, and I'm trying to get return values from the thread. I've used the link in here as base to write my code, which is working just fine. To sum it up and illustrate the question in code here (I don't think this code will run on itself): class MainWindow (QtGui.QWidget): # this is just a reference and not really relevant to the question def __init__ (self, parent = None): QtGui.QWidget.__init__(self, parent) self.thread = Worker() # this does not begin a thread - look at "Worker.run" for mor details self.connect(self.thread, QtCore.SIGNAL('finished()'), self.unfreezeUi) self.connect(self.thread, QtCore.SIGNAL('terminated()'), self.unfreezeUi) self.connect(self.buttonDaemon, QtCore.SIGNAL('clicked()'), self.pressDaemon) # the problem begins below: I'm not using signals, or queue, or whatever, while I believe I should def pressDaemon (self): self.buttonDaemon.setEnabled(False) if self.thread.isDaemonRunning(): self.thread.setDaemonStopSignal(True) self.buttonDaemon.setText('Daemon - converts every %s sec'% args['daemonInterval']) else: self.buttonConvert.setEnabled(False) self.thread.startDaemon() self.buttonDaemon.setText('Stop Daemon') self.buttonDaemon.setEnabled(True) # this whole class is just another reference class Worker (QtCore.QThread): daemonIsRunning = False daemonStopSignal = False daemonCurrentDelay = 0 def isDaemonRunning (self): return self.daemonIsRunning def setDaemonStopSignal (self, bool): self.daemonStopSignal = bool def __init__ (self, parent = None): QtCore.QThread.__init__(self, parent) self.exiting = False self.thread_to_run = None # which def will be running def __del__ (self): self.exiting = True self.thread_to_run = None self.wait() def run (self): if self.thread_to_run != None: self.thread_to_run(mode='continue') def startDaemon (self, mode = 'run'): if mode == 'run': self.thread_to_run = self.startDaemon # I'd love to be able to just pass this as an argument on start() below return self.start() # this will begin the thread # this is where the thread actually begins self.daemonIsRunning = True self.daemonStopSignal = False sleepStep = 0.1 # don't know how to interrupt while sleeping - so the less sleepStep, the faster StopSignal will work # begins the daemon in an "infinite" loop while self.daemonStopSignal == False and not self.exiting: # here, do any kind of daemon service delay = 0 while self.daemonStopSignal == False and not self.exiting and delay < args['daemonInterval']: time.sleep(sleepStep) # delay is actually set by while, but this holds for N second delay += sleepStep # daemon stopped, reseting everything self.daemonIsRunning = False self.emit(QtCore.SIGNAL('terminated')) Tho it's quite big, I hope this is pretty clear. The main point is on def pressDaemon. Specifically all 3 self.thread calls. The last one, self.thread.startDaemon() is just fine, and exactly as the example. I doubt that represents any issue. The problem is being able to set the Daemon Stop Signal and retrieve the value if it's running. I'm not sure that it's possible to set a stop signal on QtCore.QtThread, because I've tried doing the same way and it didn't work. But I'm pretty sure it's not possible to retrieve a return result from the emit. So, there it is. I'm using direct calls to the thread class, and I'm almost positive that's not a good design and will probably fail when running under stress. I read about that queue, but I'm not sure it's the proper solution here, or if I should be using Qt at all, since this is Python. And just maybe there's nothing wrong with the way I'm doing.

  • Telerik RadEditor Find & Replace in HTML View

    - by Jim
We use Telerik's RadEditor for our content management system's WYSIWYG editor. We need the find & replace functionality that is in the WYSIWYG editor to also be in the HTML editor. The editor is pretty customizable, anyone know if there is a way to enable this or hack it in?

  • FIFO semaphore test

    - by L4N0
Hello everyone, I have implemented FIFO semaphores but now I need a way to test/prove that they are working properly. A simple test would be to create some threads that try to wait on a semaphore and then print a message with a number and if the numbers are in order it should be FIFO, but this is not good enough to prove it because that order could have occurred by chance. Thus, I need a better way of testing it. If necessary locks or condition variables can be used too. Thanks

  • In Django Combobox choices, how do you lookup description from short value?

    - by MikeN
In Django models/forms the choices for a combobox often look like this: food_choices = (("",""), ("1", "Falafel"), ("2", "Hummus"), ("3", "Eggplant Stuff, Babaganoush???"), So the value to be stored in the database will be 1/2/3, but the displayed value on the form will be the long description. When we are working in code outside a form, how can we quickly lookup the long description given the short value stored in the model? So I want to map short values to long values: print foo("1") "Falafel"

  • How to create a UserProfile form in Django with first_name, last_name modifications ?

    - by Natim
If think my question is pretty obvious and almost every developer working with UserProfile should be able to answer it. However, I could not find any help on the django documentation or in the Django Book. When you want to do a UserProfile form in with Django Forms, you'd like to modify the profile fields as well as some User field. But there is no forms.UserProfileForm (yet?) ! How do you do that ?

    - by Panther24
I have a string in "dd-MM-yyyy HH:mm" and need to convert it to a date object in the format "yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm". Below is the code I'm using to convert oldScheduledDate = "16-05-2011 02:00:00"; DateFormat formatter = new SimpleDateFormat("yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss"); Date oldDate = (Date)formatter.parse(oldScheduledDate); Now when I print oldDate, i get Sat Nov 01 02:00:00 GMT 21, which is completely wrong, what am I doing wrong here?

  • libpcap packet size

    - by silverbandit91
I'm working with libpcap in C on linux (centos) and I'm following this guide I want to simply print out the entire packet in ascii and i'v managed to get it working by casting it a u_char* in the "my_callback" function. But I can't figure out how to get the length of the data. strstr didn't work. the header has a len member that you can access to get the size but I can't find anything similar for the *packet being passed. Any help is appreciated.

  • When is a subroutine reference in @INC called?

    - by gvkv
As the title says, I'm not clear on when such a subroutine will be called. From the require page at perldoc one can write: push @INC, \&my_sub; sub my_sub { my ($coderef, $filename) = @_; # $coderef is \&my_sub ... } but where does this go exactly? The required package or the requiring script (or package)? I've tried both with some sentinel print statements but neither worked so clearly there is something I'm not getting.
