how do i redirect a USB tty (arduino) to a file in Macos X 10.6 in Terminal ?
"screen /dev/tty.usbserial... 9600"

does not, but blocks.
My network utilization in windows never seems to get above 1%.
This seems absolutely tiny, does anyone know why it is so low and if there is anyway to increase it(or if it indeed does need increased)
FYI: I use a D-LINK USB wireless adaptor
I recently bought a second monitor and hooked it to my laptop. I like to put the monitor in portrait mode when coding and i can do this with igfx but i was wondering if there was a way to make a keyboard shortcut that will rotate my display 270 degrees and change my wallpaper to one that fits the 1050 X 1680 portrait resolution, and then have a key that rotates back to normal and resets my wallpaper? I have googled to no avail, I look forward to your answers.
Thanks in advance,

I have a laptop running Windows XP that does not connect to the Internet and I would like to use a USB GPS receiver as a time source to set the clock. Generally, the laptop will not have access to the open sky so getting a strong, multi-satellite connection is not likely.
Ideally, I would like to be able to have the program detect the GPS receiver and set the clock without intervention from the user.
Is what I'm seeking even feasible?
I wanted to format my USB thumbdrive, but incorrectly did the following on my external HDD!!
CMD -- Diskpart
select disk 2
clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
active
format fs=fat32
While it was still at 0% however, I cancelled the format and quit from CMD.
I can no longer see the HDD in My computer though, and it shows up as below in diskpart
Disk 1
Status - Online
Size- 1800 GB
Free - 0B
Is there anything I can do to get the data and HDD back?
I'd like to disable the 3rd button emulation in ubuntu 9.10. Normally, I'd just change the option in xorg.conf and it would go away - but how do I deal with an autodetected mouse?
For example, I've got a mouse I connect to USB and it has the emulation enabled by default. How do I change it in that case?
When working with files on my mac I employ a mixed approach of shell/finder or keyboard/mouse, similar to working with 4NT and Explorer on Windows.
One thing I use(d) extensively on Windows is to copy the path of the current directory to the clipboard. This is an extended feature of TakeCommand by JPSoft, on Windows.
Is there a way to copy the current path from the bash shell to the mac's clipboard, so I can use it in 'file open' and/or similar dialogues?
My computer is booting but has no display. The optical drive has power, but the USB doesn't, so I figured that I had a broken motherboard. However I tried to boot my computer again laying flat, and it worked fine for two seconds, and then froze like it did the first time. It had no display after that. I have come to the conclusion that it is a connection problem (someone had a similar problem on one of the online forums).
How to change Windows default language temporarily? for example English to Russian.
but for some time and without loosing anything. I will revert back to English.
I want to change Language settings everywhere. In programs, Keyboard input, browsers etc.
I don't want iTunes on my laptop due to the stupidly bloated amount of system drivers and services it installs. Win7 offers XP mode which allows you to virtualise USB devices to the VM.
Does anyone know if I could install iTunes into XP Mode and sync to an iPhone that way, preferably bringing in an Outlook address book from the host machine as well.
I have a Cable modem connected to a router (Linksys WRT54G)
I use internet on my Desktop PC using a Wireless Adapter (NETGEAR WG111)
I am using Windows Vista.
I tried few things like
Contacting the ISP
changing USB port for adapter
updating router firmware
tryin out the connection on a laptop
Connecting directly using a LAN cord
Nothing worked..
Anyone with more solutions ??
I'm trying to use Skype with Ubuntu Karmic and I just don't understand how to configure Pulseaudio properly. The previous version of Skype allowed me to talk through and hear the voice on my USB phone and the ringing sounds through my laptop speaker. I'm not able to do this with the new version (2.1.0.47).
In XP, to ensure a folder opened in a new window, I held down CTRL when I opened (by mouse or keyboard) the folder.
This action is so ingrained to me, I pretty much don't even realise I'm doing it at a conscious level.
Unfortunately, this action apparently hasn't made it to Vista. Is there a new way to do this, or am I just missing something obvious?
Due to some security problems, My boss has asked me to store all sensitive data in external/removable storages like USB stick or external HDD and this specially includes the MDF/NDF/LDF files of SQL Server 2008 we're running.
I've been reading for these last three days with no luck to find a solution. Is there any solution at all? Has ever anybody done such thing?
I'm writing this on a MacBook Air 13" (the ones just released), but I have a problem. BootCamp provides no easy way of turning off the bluetooth or wifi radios, and nor are there any hotkey combinations on the keyboard, nor any hard or soft switches on the body to toggle these radios.
As I'll be travelling a lot with this machine, what's the best way for me to comply with the cabin service crews' instructions and disable the radios before takeoff, and reenable them after landing?
so at home we had the idea of instead of buying 3 different pc's we would somehow create a "server" for the computers where a cable would come to our screens and keyboard and mouses, so the actual pc was somewhere else in the house with all the others.
Does such a thing exist?
And is it possible to have such a thing for high performance workflow?
(Compiling, High-End Games, just as if it was a separate pc )
What are some pretty good slim, external DVD RW drives? I need one for my Lenovo X61 Tablet. It should be slim (duh), and powered by 1 or 2 USB cables if needed (so it doesn't need to be plugged in).

Is there something which may:
Play music, at the very least in MP3-format
Play video in various codec's
Helps in recording video of shows from TV through a TV-in card
Helps in organizing music and videos
Works with a keyboard and mouse
Additional pluses are:
If it also is possible to browse the web through it, or at least start the web browser
Has some games. Maybe through MAME or some other emulation like SNES or something.
If it's also possible to control it through a game pad.
According to MSDN installer sets ROOTDRIVE to the local drive that can be written to having the most free space. In my situation it is a slow USB drive that I use for nightly backup, but I would prefer to use my C drive for the install folder.
But somehow I can't figure out how to set this property from command line or through PowerShell. I found that it is possible, but these instructions don't make any sense

I want to send email with the same subject line, body text and pdf attachment to any one who asks me for the .pdf. I want to be able to use a keyboard short cut or similar to avoid having to type the same stuff every time.
Similar to question,
Can I bring the lock screen back after dismissing it? ('go back a screen' from password entry)
How do I go back to the Lock Screen once I've gone to the password screen in Microsoft Surface tablet? This is a different mechanism from using the referenced question in that no physical keyboard is available.
Alternately, can the timout on the password screen be shortened?
