  • multi-threaded proxy checker having problems

    - by Paul
hello everyone, I am trying to create a proxy checker. This is my first attempt at multithreading and it's not going so well, the threads seem to be waiting for one to complete before initializing the next. Imports System.Net Imports System.IO Imports System.Threading Public Class Form1 Public sFileName As String Public srFileReader As System.IO.StreamReader Public sInputLine As String Public Class WebCall Public proxy As String Public htmlout As String Public Sub New(ByVal proxy As String) Me.proxy = proxy End Sub Public Event ThreadComplete(ByVal htmlout As String) Public Sub send() Dim myWebRequest As HttpWebRequest = CType(WebRequest.Create("http://www.myserver.com/ip.php"), HttpWebRequest) myWebRequest.Proxy = New WebProxy(proxy, False) Try Dim myWebResponse As HttpWebResponse = CType(myWebRequest.GetResponse(), HttpWebResponse) Dim loResponseStream As StreamReader = New StreamReader(myWebResponse.GetResponseStream()) htmlout = loResponseStream.ReadToEnd() Debug.WriteLine("Finished - " & htmlout) RaiseEvent ThreadComplete(htmlout) Catch ex As WebException If (ex.Status = WebExceptionStatus.ConnectFailure) Then End If Debug.WriteLine("Failed - " & proxy) End Try End Sub End Class Private Sub Button1_Click(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Button1.Click Dim proxy As String Dim webArray As New ArrayList() Dim n As Integer For n = 0 To 2 proxy = srFileReader.ReadLine() webArray.Add(New WebCall(proxy)) Next Dim w As WebCall For Each w In webArray Threading.ThreadPool.QueueUserWorkItem(New WaitCallback(AddressOf w.send), w) Next w End Sub Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load srFileReader = System.IO.File.OpenText("proxies.txt") End Sub End Class

  • Icons in Windows Form Applications (VS2008)

    - by typoknig
This is yet another question about .ico files. I have read through many pages trying to figure this out but I am unable to. When I go to Properties - Application of my Windows Form Application there is a place for me to pick the icon for my application. I have made a 32x32 icon and it takes it just fine, but the image is grainy when it is applied to my .exe file, like it is a picture that has been expanded more than it should have. 1.) Why is this? 2.) Is there any .ico file size other than 32x32 than a Windows Form Application can accept? I have tried 48x48 but it doesn't like that. I just want my .exe file to look nice!

  • VS 2010 breaks my keydown events

    - by Erik Karlsson
I have a custom control, a groupbox, which reacts on key events on a assigned key. It is possible to remove this groupbox, as well as adding more dynamically. Havnt been any trouble in VS 2008 so far. Two days ago i installed VS 2010. And i started to get multiple event fireing, and removing a groupbox did not remove the specific key events attached to it. Where did it go wrong? I use -= on the events present in the gruopbox code to remove them before removing the groupbox.

  • How to access the subject of a compose mail item in Outlook

    - by vwfreak034
In Outlook, I can set the subject for a new message (when composing a new mail message), but I want to prepend text. So I need to get the subject first, and then set it. Outlook.Application application = Globals.ThisAddIn.Application; Outlook.Inspector inspector = application.ActiveInspector(); Outlook.MailItem myMailItem = (Outlook.MailItem)inspector.CurrentItem; if (myMailItem != null && !string.IsNullOrEmpty(myMailItem.Subject)) { myMailItem.Subject = "Following up on your order"; } This code works on replies, but not for new messages, because in that case, myMailItem is null.

  • Storing UTF-8 XML using Word's CustomXMLPart or any other supported way

    - by wpfwannabe
I am writing a Word add-in which is supposed to store some own XML data per document using Word object model and its CustomXMLPart. The problem I am now facing is the lack of IStream-like functionality for reading/writing XML to/from a CustomXMLPart. It only provides BSTR interface and I am puzzled how to handle UTF-8 XMLs with BSTRs. To my understanding an UTF-8 XML file should really never have to undergo this sort of Unicode conversion. I am not sure what to expect as a result here. Is there another way of using Word automation interfaces to store arbitrary custom information inside a DOCX file?

  • Dynamic expansion of a Crystal report...

    - by Chathuranga Chandrasekara
I have a crystal report consisting of several pages. Each page consists of a several fields that are populated from database. Suppose the following example : Name : aaaaaa Education Background:bbbbbbb Age:cc In my case the Education Background's details (bbbbbbb here) may consist of several words or several pages. If I set a large space for it, it will waste a big space on report (Yes. May be a paper) in a case of short answer. How can I eliminate this problem? Does crystal reports provide a way to dynamically expand the space?

  • Design time error - multiple controls with the same Id

    - by ilivewithian
    I'm using VS 2008, I have a very simple page that has a bunch of uniquely named controls. When I try to view it in design mode I get the following error: Error Rendering Control - Label12 An unhanded exception has occurred. Multiple controls with the same ID 'Label1' were found. FindControl requires that controls have unique IDs I've checked the HTML and the designer file and I can only see one control called Label1. What might be causing this? Also, here is the aspx markup I'm having trouble with? <%@ Page Language="vb" AutoEventWireup="false" CodeBehind="CoachingAppearanceReport.aspx.vb" Inherits="AcademyPro.CoachingAppearanceReport" %> <!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd"> <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> <head runat="server"> <title></title> </head> <body> <form id="form1" runat="server"> <asp:UpdatePanel ID="UpdatePanel1" runat="server"> <ContentTemplate> <div id="appearanceDetail" class="Left CriteriaContainer"> <asp:Label ID="Label1" runat="server" Text="Appearance Type" AssociatedControlID="ddlAppearanceType" /> <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlAppearanceType" runat="server" CssClass="AppType" OnDataBound="ddlAppearanceType_DataBound" DataSourceID="odsAppearanceType" DataTextField="AppearanceType" DataValueField="AppearanceTypeCode"> </asp:DropDownList> <asp:RequiredFieldValidator ID="rfvAppearanceType" runat="server" ControlToValidate="ddlAppearanceType" InitialValue="" Text="*" ErrorMessage="The appearance type must be selected" /> <asp:Label ID="lblAppearanceType" runat="server" /> <br /> <div class="SubSettings"> <asp:Label ID="Label12" runat="server" Text="Subbed for" AssociatedControlID="ddlSubbedFor" /> <asp:DropDownList ID="ddlSubbedFor" runat="server" OnDataBound="ddlSubbedFor_DataBound" DataSourceID="odsPlayersInAgeGroup" DataTextField="PlayerName" DataValueField="PlayerID"> </asp:DropDownList> <asp:Label ID="lblSubbedFor" runat="server" /> <br /> <asp:Label ID="Label13" runat="server" Text="Mins" AssociatedControlID="txtSubMins" /> <asp:TextBox ID="txtSubMins" runat="server" MaxLength="3" CssClass="TinyWidth" /> <asp:Label ID="lblSubMins" runat="server" /> </div> </div> </ContentTemplate> </asp:UpdatePanel> </form> </body> </html>

  • % style macros not supported in some C++/CLI project property pages under VS2010?

    - by Dave Foster
We're currently evaluating VS2010 and have upgraded our VS2008 C++/CLI project to the new .vcxproj format. I've noticed that a certain property we had set in the project settings did not get translated properly. Under Configuration Properties - Managed Resources - Resource Logical Name, we used to have (in VS2008) the setting: $(IntDir)\$(RootNamespace).$(InputName).resources which indicated that all .resx files were to compile into OurLib.SomeForm.resources inside of the assembly. (the Debug portion is dropped when assembled) According to MSDN, the $(InputName) macro no longer exists and should be replaced with %(Filename). However, when translating the above line to swap those macros, it does not seem to ever expand. The second .resx file it tries to compile, I get a "LINK : fatal error LNK1316: duplicate managed resource name 'Debug\OurLib.%(Filename).resources". This indicates to me that the % style macros are not being expanded here, at least in this specific property. If we don't set anything in that property, the default behavior seems to be to add the subdirectory as a prefix, such as: OurLib.Forms.SomeForm.resources where Forms is the subdir of our project that the .resx file lives. This only occurs when the .resx file is in an immediate subdirectory of the project being built. If a .resx file exists somewhere else on disk (aka ..\OtherLib\Forms\SomeForm2.resx) this prefix is NOT added. This is causing an issue with loading form resources, as it does not account for this possible prefix, even though we are using the standard Forms Designer method of getting at resources: System::ComponentModel::ComponentResourceManager^ resources = (gcnew System::ComponentModel::ComponentResourceManager(SomeForm::typeid)); and do not specify the .resources file by name. The issue I've just described may not be the same as the original question, but if I were to fix the Resource Logical Name issue I think this would all go away. Does anyone have any information about these % macros and where they are allowed to be used?

  • Why is the modal dialog in MFC actually internally modeless?

    - by pythiyam
This question arose in my miind after reading this article: http://www.codeproject.com/Articles/3911/The-singular-non-modality-of-MFC-modal-dialogs. He mentions that the modal dialog in MFC is not strictly modal, but implemented as a modeless dialog(internally) with bells and whistles to make it behave as a modal one. Specifically, he says: The MFC command routing mechanism uses a combination of message maps and virtual functions to achieve what it does and a true modal dialog will totally wreck this mechanism because then the modal message loop is controlled outside the scope of the MFC command routing machinery Could anyone elucidate this statement? An example of what would have gone wrong if they had tried to implement a truly modal dialog would greatly clear things up.

  • Avoid compiling when using Decimal.Round() method (C#/CF)

    - by Christian Almeida
Is there a way to tell to VS2005 to get compiler error when using "some defined" method? It probably sounds strange, but I do not want to compile when using Decimal.Round(). Reason: CF does not round by "awayfromzero", so I created a method to do this job. But sometimes I (and team) forget that is not to use Decimal.Round. So I'd like to get a compiler error when using it.

  • How to recover after a merge failure in TFS 2008?

    - by steve_d
We recently attempted a large, "cherry picked" merge. First we did a full merge from one child development branch into the parent Main branch, then did a full merge of the Main branch into another child development branch, then we attempted to do a cherry pick merge from the second Development branch back into merge. There were many checkins, including renames and deletes; and when it wasn't working the person who was doing it did a bunch of TFPT rollbacks. What options do we have to recover here? Things like baseless, force, etc merge? Roll back to a point in time and somehow, try again?

  • .net c# text box date with mask - setup

    - by flavour404
I have a c# .net project and want an input text box for a date value. I want it to display a default value of mm/dd/yyyy and then allow users to enter valid dates. I have tried using a masked text box but it doesn't like having the above format. If i try and use //__ looks naff and so does 00/00/0000 and of course if you put in '0' like 03/11/2009 you get 3/11/29 because the 0's are deleted as part of the mask - so what is the best way to set up an input box like this, effectively with a mask, only allowing numbers, and validation (though at this point I am not so worried about that). This seems so simple and isn't. Thanks, R.

  • How do I merge multiple PDB files ?

    - by blue.tuxedo
We are currently using a single command line tool to build our product on both Windows and Linux. Si far its works nicely, allowing us to build out of source and with finer dependencies than what any of our previous build system allowed. This buys us great incremental and parallel build capabilities. To describe shortly the build process, we get the usual: .cpp -- cl.exe --> .obj and .pdb multiple .obj and .pdb -- cl.exe --> single .dll .lib .pdb multiple .obj and .pdb -- cl.exe --> single .exe .pdb The msvc C/C++ compiler supports it adequately. Recently the need to build a few static libraries emerged. From what we gathered, the process to build a static library is: multiple .cpp -- cl.exe --> multiple .obj and a single .pdb multiple .obj -- lib.exe --> a single .lib The single .pdb means that cl.exe should only be executed once for all the .cpp sources. This single execution means that we can't parallelize the build for this static library. This is really unfortunate. We investigated a bit further and according to the documentation (and the available command line options): cl.exe does not know how to build static libraries lib.exe does not know how to build .pdb files Does anybody know a way to merge multiple PDB files ? Are we doomed to have slow builds for static libraries ? How do tools like Incredibuild work around this issue ?

  • R6034: An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly.

    - by mattias
I am getting this R6034 error when running program that I just updated (and cleaned) from VS2003 - VS2008. To be more exact: "R6034: An application has made an attempt to load the C runtime library incorrectly." It seems to happed almost at the same place all the time when running. I have no really idea why but I tried some suggestions I found when googleing this. For example adding the msvc dlls, but that didn't work. Any help on why this error occurs would be great. Thanks

  • Build Machine Configuration Recommendations?

    - by IPX Ares
We have a new build machine to start using for our programming team. We are still trying to figure out how we want to organize everything to get the best configuration for building EXEs and DLLs. We are using VB6 and VB.Net 2005, and VSS2005. We were thinking of making working folders set for each project, release and support tickets. Does anyone have experience with a similar set up? What were your likes/dislikes? Any recommendations (New VSS IDs, folder configuration, setting working folder, updating/building files)?

  • What is the difference between clearcase and vss in label a release?

    - by raj
Hi, We are using clearcase as our SCM. I have not much experience with clearcase. Now we are about to release our code to production. I want to label my code as I have done using VSS in my previous projects. But in clearcase labeling is not as easy as in VSS. clearcase is asking to create a label type before label a folder in VOB. I don't understand the concept of creating label type? Any guidance on this will be highly appreciated.

Project paths in the solution file checked in initially contains the path that are specific to that developer. Now when another dev gets latest of the solution, some of the projects won't load as the path differs. What's a better way to manage this ? TIA

  • Displaying multidimensional data in WPF

What is the best way to display multidimensional data in WPF? I want to use databinding and I won't know the size/shape of the data until runtime. I was thinking some sort of grid but I don't know how to dynamically bind to the data and have it figure out the number of rows and columns. Suggestions and examples please?

  • Can I use VS2010's Intellitrace to gather data for a Windows Service?

    - by rwmnau
I have a Windows service that I'd like to gather some debugging data on using Intellitrace - the problem is that you can't debug a Windows Service by starting it directly from inside VS. I have the service installed, and the very first statement in Service.Start is "Debug.Break", which allows me to attach VS. However, you can't use Intellitrace if a process is already started when you attach. Does anybody know of a workaround for this?
