I found that with code/function I can change the contacts ringtone, but I couldn't find how to use it. Can someone help me, How do I do it?
context.getContentResolver().update(contactUri, values, where, args);
ContactsContract.Contacts.CUSTOM_RINGTONE
One more question. when I call from one android simulator to another I don't hear the ringing sound, what could be the problem?
Is it possible to set up Android in ad-hoc peer-to-peer wifi mode? For example, I would like to have one phone broadcast a message, and have all peers in the network receive the broadcast, without having a server. I would like to use wifi since bluetooth range is more limited.
I am trying to test my application with location information.
You know the Emulator Control has an ability to load from KML file. (Eclipse - DDMS - Emulator Control - Location Controls - KML - Load KML...)
I've prepared KML file using Google earth application with its "Add path". Then saved it by .kml extension and load it on the Eclipse. Eclipse didn't load this KML file.
How to prepare KML file for Android Emulator Control?
I'd like to add a feature to my android app that automatically backs up the sqlite database to the sd card.
What's the best way to go about this?
Any examples/tutorials available?
In my Android application, I want to rename the file name at runtime. How can I do it?
This is my code:
String[] command = {" mv", "sun moon.jpg"," sun_moon,jpg"};
try
{
Process process = Runtime.getRuntime().exec(command);
}
catch (IOException e)
{
Toast.makeText(this, ""+e, Toast.LENGTH_LONG).show();
}
I also used renameTo(File f) method but its also not working..
The Problem:
I have two View Controllers loaded into a root View Controller. Both sub view layouts respond to orientation changes. I switch between the two views using [UIView transformationFromView:...]. Both sub views work fine on their own, but if...
Views are swapped
Orientation Changes
Views are swapped again
the View that was previously hidden has serious layout problems. The more I repeat these steps the worse the problem gets.
Implementation Details
I have three viewsControllers.
MyAppViewController
A_ViewController
B_ViewController
A & B ViewControllers have a background image each, and a UIWebView and an AQGridView respectively. To give you an example of how i'm setting it all up, here's the loadView method for A_ViewController...
- (void)loadView {
[super loadView];
// background image
// Should fill the screen and resize on orientation changes
UIImageView *bg = [[UIImageView alloc] initWithFrame:self.view.bounds];
bg.contentMode = UIViewContentModeCenter;
bg.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth;
bg.image = [UIImage imageNamed:@"fuzzyhalo.png"];
[self.view addSubview:bg];
// frame for webView
// Should have a margin of 34 on all sides and resize on orientation changes
CGRect webFrame = self.view.bounds;
webFrame.origin.x = 34;
webFrame.origin.y = 34;
webFrame.size.width = webFrame.size.width - 68;
webFrame.size.height = webFrame.size.height - 68;
projectView = [[UIWebView alloc] initWithFrame:webFrame];
projectView.autoresizingMask = UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleHeight | UIViewAutoresizingFlexibleWidth;
[self.view addSubview:projectView];
}
For the sake of brevity, the AQGridView in B_ViewController is set up pretty much the same way.
Now both these views work fine on their own. However, I use both of them in the AppViewController like this...
- (void)loadView {
[super loadView];
self.view.autoresizesSubviews = YES;
[self setWantsFullScreenLayout:YES];
webView = [[WebProjectViewController alloc] init];
[self.view addSubview:webView.view];
mainMenu = [[GridViewController alloc] init];
[self.view addSubview:mainMenu.view];
activeView = mainMenu;
[[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(switchViews:) name:SWAPVIEWS object:nil];
}
and I switch betweem the two views using my own switchView method like this
- (void) switchViews:(NSNotification*)aNotification;
{
NSString *type = [aNotification object];
if ([type isEqualToString:MAINMENU]){
[UIView transitionFromView:activeView.view toView:mainMenu.view duration:0.75 options:UIViewAnimationOptionTransitionFlipFromRight completion:nil];
activeView = mainMenu;
}
if ([type isEqualToString:WEBVIEW]) {
[UIView transitionFromView:activeView.view toView:webView.view duration:0.75 options:UIViewAnimationOptionTransitionFlipFromLeft completion:nil];
activeView = webView;
}
// These don't seem to do anything
//[mainMenu.view setNeedsLayout];
//[webView.view setNeedsLayout];
}
I'm fumbling my way through this, and I suspect a lot of what i've done is implemented incorrectly so please feel free to point out anything that should be done differently, I need the input.
But my primary concern is to understand what's causing the layout problems. Here's two images which illustrate the nature of the layout issues...
UPDATE:
I just noticed that when the orientation is landscape, the transition flips vertically, when I would expect it to be horizontal. I don't know wether that's a clue as to what might be going wrong.
Switch to the other view... change orientation.... switch back....
In Android, if I want to do some background work, what is the difference between
Creating a Service to do the work, and having the Activity start the Service
VS.
Creating a standard java class to do the work, and having the Activity create an object of the class and invoke methods, to do the work in separate threads
Thanks
Chris
I'm trying to mimic the functionality in Google Maps on Android. When you press the directions option on the options menu, and it shows "My Location, End Point" on top of the map and dims the map. Is that running in a separate activity, or is that somehow a modal dialog on top of the map?
We are using Hudson to automate our Android build. I need to incorporate the build number into the version string used in our app. Was wondering if anyone had an example of doing that before I (re?)invent that wheel. Obviously I need to replace a string value in one of our config files.
I have an android service that connects to remote server by TCP/IP and waits for notifications from it. Should I care about PowerManagement? Can sleep mode affect me some how?
If no, than what are the "use cases" to care about wake locks?
Is there a way to test, from within an android app, if the device it's running on is actually using the Froyo JIT?
I ask because I know that 2.2 has a JIT, but we've already had a few test builds that seem to lack the JIT. So it's not a case where you can just test for the api version and be assured you've got the JIT.
I have integrated the Pushwoosh SDK in my Android Application and it is working fine.
I have done the Cross Platform Setting to run the Android Application on my Blackberry Z10 device, the application is running finely but I am not able to receive the Notification on my Blackberry Z10 device as Android.
I am getting this error:

I am not able to get the Push Notification on my Blackberry Z10 device.
I am confused as to the difference between the two. In my application I have just used Extends Activity and the application is working perfectly, so what is the purpose of Extends Application?.
Would you use it on the first class you create in the Android application?
Thanks.

Hello, I am trying to retrieve the value from a Arraylist/ArrayAdapter that I have populated. I believe my issue is at the Onitemclick event. What I would like to accomplished is that when I click on Yasmin, I can return the value of 8. Please let me know if I am on the right track

Hey there,
I've heard about web scraping software that can take data from a webpage. i'm building an android app and I want to take information from this site www.menupages.ie
All I need is the names of the restaurants, and typing them in myself would be very tedious.
Can someone tell me how i'd go about doing this in eclipse, what methods i need etc.
I dont know anything about it.
Thanks alot.
Here is how I setup my checked text view. How come no check box appeared?
I also added this but it had not effect:
listView.setChoiceMode(ListView.CHOICE_MODE_SINGLE);
> <CheckedTextView
> android:id="@+id/ctv_checktext"
> android:layout_width="fill_parent"
> android:paddingLeft="2px"
> android:paddingRight="2px"
> android:paddingTop="2px"
> android:layout_height="wrap_content"
> />
I set up the "Dungeons" InAppBilling example locally and I am ready to try it out, but I am a bit confused. I have a button like this:
Button donate = (Button)findViewById(R.id.donate);
donate.setOnClickListener(new Button.OnClickListener()
{
public void onClick(View v)
{
// But what do I do here? :)
}
});
And when it is called, what do I need to do to actually go to the pay screen on android store?
Thanks!
Seems like I'm having some problems after updating my android sdk tools and platform-tools using the sdk manager. The problem is that, after updating, I found that the avd or sdk options in the windows dropdown menu in eclipse are gone! And, I can't find any option to create an android project from file-new projects any more.
I tried removing the ADT from eclipse and the software site "https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/" from "available software sites" and then reinstalled the ADT from "https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/eclipse/" using help-install new software. The installation was successful, but I still don't have any option for shortcuts to the SDK manager or the AVD in eclipse, and neither can I create a new android project.
By the way, the android perspectives are not gone, they are still here. Also, I can manually open the avd and sdk manager from the directory where I have installed them.
Can anyone please show me a workaround? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Ok so I have two BroadcastReceiver registered. When the app is closed they both fire at the appropriate times and do the appropriate things.
If the app is closed then killed (say with an AppKiller), the receivers never receive their broadcasts, and nothing happens.
Presumably the same thing happens if the parent app is killed due to low memory, so how do I ensure those broadcasts are fired/received. The API states that even if the app is killed it should fire, does anyone else have experience with this situation?
If it helps my manifest is:
<!-- receivers for AlarmManager -->
<receiver
android:exported="true"
android:label="Shift roster updating calendar."
android:name="com.skooter.shiftroster.backend.service.UpdateCalendar"
>
</receiver>
<receiver
android:exported="true"
android:label="Shift roster checking alarm."
android:name="com.skooter.shiftroster.backend.service.SetWakeup"
>
</receiver>
and nothing esoteric is going on in the AlarmManager/BroadcastReceivers
Title says it all. My app code is starting to get unmanageable and I want to start source control, primarily because I need to branch my code.
What are some good systems that you have used in the past and what would you recommend to me.
Requirements:
Must be free
Must integrate with eclipse
Must work well with android development plugin
I'm up and running in Eclipse, have worked through several tutorials and would like to start developing my first marketable app. Is there anyplace I can find a comprehensive list or catalog of what's available on the Android marketplace? I'd hate to waste a lot of development time building an app that has twelve free versions already available.
