I'm writing code in C++, but I really like K/APL's array-oriented style.
Does anyone know of a good set of operator overloading tricks / macros / ... to allow some K/APL -style programming in C++?
Thanks!
I am teaching my friend how to program in C, he has no programming experience. He wants to learn C so that he can program different microprocessors. I have suggested he learn another language something like java or ruby so that he can learn basics before moving on to a language like C. Is this advisable or should i just teach him C?
Hi can someone point me to some Good Open Source Code to learn Web Programming (Language doesn't matter).
i'm looking for source code of web-applications not frameworks
I'm not a beginner, I can code to some extent. I want to know how stuffs are done in real world applications.
hi , i am new to web programming in java , i want to know how to use web api such as google api ,
facebook api in my code
so i need to know how to begin and what i need to do that .
thanks
I do not understand why people choose C++ over Smalltalk in past and why Java over Python or Ruby. What is it that ties people so much to the procedural programming and makes it so difficult to go "all the way" to object oriented programming? What makes OOP hard? Should not objects be an abstraction which is easier to grasp for people, i.e. a more natural one than procedures? Is education the problem (because people tend to learn procedural programming before object oriented)?
I last programmed actively in 2002. It is almost 8 years now. I learned C and then moved to Visual Basic for our thesis project in the university. I would like to ask suggestions on what programming language should I learn and put to profitability use in areas such as desktop applications, web development, and database applications.
I was programming the example code from Frank Luna's book "Introduction to 3D Game Programming with DirectX 10". The code is the first Win32 example in the Appendix A: Windows Programming section.
Right now, the program compiles under both VC++ 2008/2010, but no window appears, although the debug session has started and I have to forcefully close it. I have no idea where it is, I'm not using Win32 Console mode, I have closed all other windows and no other IDE or session of VC++ is running.
Any idea why this might be happening?
PS: I have also checked my Processes. It is indeed running.
Hi folks, Please suggest a good book for beginner in Quantitative Methods/Techniques. Adding to this, a good book for beginners in R programming language, used in Quantitative Methods. And I've a few questions about this:
? Should I have to learn the other subjects like Probability, Statics, etc. before learning Quantitative Methods
? Is there any relation between Quantitative Methods & Data Mining
Hello ,
How to set the slider to clicked position and get the slider value on the clicked location on UISlider in iPhone programming.
i know we can drag the slider to that position but i dont want to do it. Can you please tel me how to set the slider to clicked position? Is this possible to do?
Hello,
Recently i start to studying C/gtk+ programming. And want to ask one question: how do you think, what is the best ide for C/gtk+ development?
Thank you.
I want to start programming with D. I have a simple application in mind that needs a GUI but I want to make sure it's portable to Linux/Windows/Mac equally well and with minimal (no) change for each platform.
wxD is looking like the contender of choice because I know the wx toolkit already.
I see fltk4d as a contender and a (unfinished) wrapper around Qt.
Are there any other truly cross platform GUI toolkits for D that will go where I want with little effort and what would the the toolkit of choice for people here?
Hi,
I am working on a Visual Web Part which requires creating a custom control. I am trying to add custom control to the same assembly as Visual Web Part and registering control as:
<%@ Register TagPrefix="cus" Namespace="SomeCustomControlNameSpace" %
When I am trying to access this its throwing runtime error :
Unknown server tag 'cus:ControlName'.
Do I need to make any Web.Config entry for this?
Any Ideas?
Hello,
Is there significant problem, if I write the code for embedded linux system using C++ language programming ?.
Actually, I have intention to port some code to arm linux, with arm-uclibc compiler.
Thanks
I'm very new to C# and I've run into a problem and haven't been able to solve it. I have a row of buttons that have .png images assigned to them. The images are in .png format to allow transparency, and smoothing the edges in GIMP leaves some semi-transparent pixels. I've set the Image List Toolbar (imglToolbar)'s properties to recognize "Transparent" as the designated color to show up as transparent. I'm working in Visual Studio 2005.
The strange thing is that everything looks great when I'm viewing the Visual C# form preview window. The icons look exactly as they should. However, once I actually build the project, the buttons treat every semi-transparent pixel near the edge of the image as if it's black. It seems like it can't handle one that's both transparent and has color.
Image of it via the Visual C# form editor:
Image of what it looks like when built:
Any ideas as to why this is happening?
Is it harder (or impossible) to implement mutation testing in some languages than others? For example, is it possible to implement mutation testing in functional programming languages?
Is it possible to write in C programming language everything that you could write in other languages such as Java, C# or C++. If that's the case why don't schools these days teach C instead of Java?
Ok the main reason why I am asking is because I don't want to tie down to a single programming language and platform (.NET and C# or Obj-C and Cocoa). Perhaps I am confusing a programming language with a framework? If anyone could clarify all this for me, I'd certainly vote for your answer.
My application is a non-relational database application with a tcl interface to retrieve data. I would like to add SQL programming interface to my application.
Is there any library that converts SQL/PLSQL statements to API calls? It should also support stored procedures.
SQLite(Embedded) has 'virtual table' mechanism that suits my requirement but it lacks stored procedure feature.

Just wondering is their any examples or elements which can look very similar to the Properties panel used in Visual Studio? My guess the one in Visual Studio 2010 is built upon WPF, almost definitely a treeview?
We all hear that math at least helps a little bit with programming. My question though, does English or other natural language skills help with programming? I know it has to help with technical documentation, but what about actual programming? Are certain constructs in a programming language also there in natural languages? Does knowing how to write a 20 page research paper help with writing a 20k loc programming project?

That image shows what I'm talking about.
Visual Studio 2010 on the left, Visual Studio 2005 on the right.
If you ignore the jpeg compression artifacts you can tell that the left icons are much blurrier than the right icons.
Is there some way to turn off this anti-aliasing?
I am new to programming and I really want to improve my programming skills. As of right now, I am just reading books to learn. I can make basic sites using html, css, php, mysql. If I got a tutor, say just a experienced programmer who would like to teach me, would the money and time be worth it?
The cost is around $30/hour.
Or would just programming yourself and working with other like-minds(because I am in college) be the best way to learn?
Now I know that what can be computed or what cannot be computed?
So let me know about the undecidable problems in programming and compiler. How can we proof knowing something is impossible?
Weird question but here it is. What are the programming concepts that were "automated" by modern languages? What I mean are the concepts you had to manually do before. Here is an example: I have just read that in C, you manually do garbage collection; with "modern" languages however, the language itself takes care of it. Do you know of any other, or there aren't any more?
