• What Technology to use to Interact with Codeigniter "Backend" [on hold]

  I am building an application that looks like this: Codeingiter App/MySQL DB <--> API (this is the "contract" between the two entities) <--> Web Frontend I want the web frontend to be able to interact with the MySQL DB by requesting JSON objects in a RESTful way. But I don't want the Web Frontend to expose the workings of the Codeigniter App (i.e. let the Web Frontend clients see the domain of the codeigniter app, including its controllers/functions). The Codeigniter App is for business clients, and needs to be "hidden" from the Web Frontend users. I want to use PHP or Javascript, and am considering node js's Express, Angular, and SLIM PHP. Any thoughts as to what technology would suit this purpose best? Thanks

• Get Compiz working on x1300 ati

  Hi, I have Ubuntu 10.10 installed on a thinkpad T60 with an ati mobile x1300. Ubuntu isn't loading any proprietary drivers and compiz doesn't work. A google search turned up nothing. Sure, some people reported "bad performance", but I'm not getting any "performance" with compiz and these post were all for previous editions. I'm new to messing with ati drivers. Is there a way to make sure xorg-video-ati is loaded? Do I have to add any voodoo lines somewhere in /etc/X11/? Did anyone else have this problem? Thanks for your help!

  I have an issue with Google Analytics, can't seem to find a guide how to activate Demographics and Interests reports.   A friend of mine asked me for a easy website for him. As it was just 3 subpages, no database need or anything, I've done it quite fast with plain PHP, HTML, JS and CSS. But then another and another friend showed up. They only wanted arrange differently they navigation, some different picutures etc. So I though, is there any kind of CMS, that allows build small business website (barbershop, local groceries shop), with small list of subpages, yet allowing us to arrange look'n'feel. There's no need for the databas as content won't change, or can be stored in simple textfiles for example. Things like WordPress might be simple overkill Does anyone know such cms?

  I just joined this stackexchange, and I'm sure this question will get closed like so many others as being subjective or "not constructive". I did a quick count on the first few pages, and it looks like at least 10% of questions are closed. One page I saw had 22 out of 50 questions closed. What does closing so many questions solve? Apparently it does not reduce the number of "bad questions". Instead it just prevents people who would otherwise be interested in answering from doing so. Why can't the people who dislike all these questions just.. not answer?

  Possible Duplicate: Does Google penalize .me or .tv sites? I see a lot of people now opting to use myname.im or myname.me But after doing some checking, i found that .im domain names are meant to be Isle of Man endings. Is this correct, and does it matter that people opt to use this domain ending if they are not even based anywhere near the Isle of Man. It is Ok to use a domain ending purely for how good it sounds is what I'm really after. Or is it bad practice to do this.

• Files: Name column basically useless in list view. Feature or bug?

  So the following is happening in Files whenever the width of the window is somewhat smaller than all the content of the list: In list view the name column is cropped unto a point where no name is visible at all! And it is even not possible to change the column size manually. Funnily, in some situations it quickly flickers from a larger column width to the small one back and forth before settling on the small size. Unnecessarily to say, it is extremely annoying. Is there a way around this or is this just "bad design"? Oh yeah, Ubuntu 13.04 & 13.10, Files version 3.8.2.

  I'm building a simple airline reservation system (web app) for a class. I'm trying to find out where to start learning about implementing and integrating a sql database. User's should be able to search for available flights based on destination and departure cities and the like. A good example would be Google Flights. I'd like to access a data base with all of the flight information and display it within tables on the web page. Admins should be able to modify the databases as well. I've tried to learn about things like Node.js, PHP, and AJAX, but most of the tutorials that I've found have been difficult to understand. Any suggestions would be really appreciated, thanks!

• Prefer examples over Documentation. Is it a behavioral problem?

  Whenever I come across a new api or programming language or even simple Linux MAN pages, I always (ever since I remember) avoided then and instead lazily relied on examples for gaining understanding of new concepts. Subconsciously, I avoid documentation/api whenever it is not straight forward or cryptic or just plain boring. It's been years since I began programming and now I feel like I need to mend my ways as I now realize that I'm causing more damage by refraining from reading cryptic/difficult documentation as it is still a million times better than examples as the official documentation has more coverage than any example out there. So even after realizing that examples should be treated as "added" value instead of the "primary" source for learning. How do I break this bad habit as a programmer or am I over thinking? Any wisdom from fellow programmers is appreciated.

The visitor is given the option to enter text freely into a text box, they enter an email address and hit send. The person receiving the message gets an email with a link, when they click the link it takes them to the webpage with the animation and the custom message their friend entered.   Our site has subscription-only pages - non-subscribed visitors see a snippet preview. As per Google's FCF requirements, your first 5 hits to a subscriber-only pages with .google. as the referrer, you see the full page. In addition to this, should we whitelist search engine bots so that they can index the full content? I assume this is not required for Google, which can use FCF to index our content, but what about other search engines? Is this considered cloaking? My gut says that whitelisting bots past the paywall is bad practice., but I wanted to confirm - any evidence or references would be amazing.

• Unable to install Xdebug

  I've registered xdebug in php.ini (as per http://xdebug.org/docs/install) but it's not showing up when i run "php -m" or when i get a test page to run "phpinfo()". • InternalsVisibleTo attribute and security vulnerability

  I found one issue with InternalsVisibleTo attribute usage. The idea of InternalsVisibleTo attribute to allow some other assemblies to use internal classes\methods of this assembly. To make it work you need sign your assemblies. So, if other assemblies isn't specified in main assembly and if they have incorrect public key, then they can't use Internal members. But the issue in Reflection Emit type generation. For example, we have CorpLibrary1 assembly and it has such class: public class TestApi { internal virtual void DoSomething() { Console.WriteLine("Base DoSomething"); } public void DoApiTest() { // some internal logic // ... // call internal method DoSomething(); } } This assembly is marked with such attribute to allow another CorpLibrary2 to make inheritor for that TestAPI and override behaviour of DoSomething method. Just for testing I stored it in Thread NamedDataSlot. It won't work in multithreaded applications, but it's just a sample. I know that we use Reflection to get private\internal members of any class, but within reflection we can't override them. But this issue is allows anyone to override internal class\method if that assembly has InternalsVisibleTo attribute. I tested it on .Net 3.5\4 and it works for both of them. How does it possible to just copy PublicKey without private key and use it in runtime? • jqGrid Filter Toolbar initial default value

  I'm using jqGrid with the filter toolbar, i need to set an initial default filter value to one of the fields so that only rows with status 'Open' are displayed by default, but the user can display Closed rows if desired. At the moment i have a workaround like this setTimeout(function() {$('#gs_Status').val('Open');$("#eventsGrid")[0].triggerToolbar()},500); but it results in a second request and is pretty bad really. Does anybody know how to do this?
