  • SQL SERVER Get Latest SQL Query for Sessions DMV

In recent SQL Training I was asked, how can one figure out what was the last SQL Statement executed in sessions. The query for this is very simple. It uses two DMVs and created following quick script for the same. SELECT session_id, TEXT FROM sys.dm_exec_connections CROSS APPLYsys.dm_exec_sql_text(most_recent_sql_handle) AS ST While working with DMVs if you [...]...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Tooltip Support For ASP.NET Image Controls v2010 vol 1

Tooltip property has been added to DevExpress ASP.NET image controls! Starting with DXperience v2010.1, all DevExpress ASP.NET image controls like the ASPxImage have a new property called: Tooltip. Whats a tooltip? Wikipedia defines it as: The tooltip is a common graphical user interface element. It is used in conjunction with a cursor, usually a mouse pointer. The user hovers the cursor over an item, without clicking it, and a tooltip may appear a small "hover box" with information...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • Does facebook store multiple password hashes for each user?

    - by loxxy
I noticed that Facebook allows multiple variants of my own password : My password as it is. My password with first letter capitalized. My password with all letters capitalized. It is commonly known that passwords are stored as hashes. So my question is, does facebook store multiple hashes for each user? Since the hash of each variant should be completely different... Or am I missing something, here? And there may be more combinations, besides the one I observed as well. This is obviously done to provide a better user experience & they probably have a statistical explanation of people repeating these mistakes. But I could not help but wonder, is it worth to increase so many lookups (in their database) just to help the user type a wrong password? On top of this, they warn about the caps lock (even though they don't seem to care) :

  • Yes to NoSQL

There seems to be some backlash building up against NoSQL with posts like Ted Dziuba I Can't Wait for NoSQL to Die or Dennis Forbes The Impact of SSDs on Database Performance and the Performance Paradox of Data Explodification (aka Fighting the NoSQL mindset). These are interesting articles to read and yes RDBMSs are not going the way of the dodo yet (I even said that in The RDBMS is dead, which by the way, was written before NoSQL was coined, but I digress ). Nevertheless,...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? We already have over 80 articles in several categories including Silverlight. • Managing service references and endpoint configurations for Silverlight applications

Youve written your service. Youve written your Silverlight application. You Add Service Reference to your application and got the client proxy code. Your app works on your machine and you push it out. FAIL. NotFound. Crap. You forgot that your service reference had your local URI endpoint in there and when you moved it to staging and/or production it failed. • Neverwinter Nights does not run in 12.10

    - by 0x0me
I recently installed a fresh version of Ubuntu 12.10 on my notebook. Then I copied the backup copy of my nwn folder from my old 12.04 install on the same computer to the new installation and tried to start the game. The terminal prompt disappears and top shows some low activity on nwmain, but there is neither showing up the game graphics nor plays any music. Any suggestions how to fix it? The game runs fine using the same setup expect for running on 12.04. Kind regards and thanks in advance

  • Can I Use A Canonical Tag Instead of a Redirect for Updated Content?

    - by Ewan Heming
I have some old articles on my blog that get quite a bit of traffic, but are very outdated. I want to remove them from Google's index using the noindex tag, but I'm not sure what the best approach will be to send the same traffic to my new article on the subject without using a redirect (as I want to keep them in my blog archives). I was intending to just put a link at the top of the article pointing to the new one, but was wondering if it was appropriate to use a canonical tag instead; the new article is on the same subject but doesn't contain the same content, so isn't really a copy.

  • NoSQL For The Rest Of Us

No one would blame you for strictly associating NoSQL with performance. Most of the back and forth about NoSQL - an umbrella term given for non-relational storage mechanisms - has squarely put the focus on performance, sites with massive traffic, and server farms. It’s an interesting conversation, but one that risks alienating NoSQL from the majority of developers. The Problem Does NoSQL provide us simple developers with any tangible benefit? As a matter of fact, it can - one as significant...Did you know that DotNetSlackers also publishes .net articles written by top known .net Authors? • MVC Design Pattern to Combine Multiple Models for use

    - by roverred
In my design, I have multiple models and each model has a controller. I need to use all the models to process some operation. Most examples I see are pretty simple with 1 view, 1 controller, and 1 model. How would you get all these models together? Only ways I can think of are 1) Have a top-level controller which has a reference to every controller. Those controllers will have a getter/setter function for their model. Does this violate MVC because every controller should have a model? 2) Have an Intermediate class to combine every model into a one model. Then you create a controller for that new super model. Do you know of any better ideas? Thanks.

  • How to debug slow session start of Gnome 3?

    - by user65521
After Upgrade from 11.10 to 12.04, the login process of Gnome 3 is extremely slow (It takes in the order of 60 seconds when it was in the order of a few seconds before the upgrade (Harddisk is a SSD!)). Running "top" in a VT shows that gnome-shell is producing about 90% CPU load while dbus-daemon is taking roughly 10%. The moment when CPU-load of gnome-shell drops to normal levels (around 2-3%) corresponds to the time the login process is terminated and the desktop is displayed. De-activating the four gnome-shell extensions (Alternative Status Menu, Quit Button, Remove Accessibility, system-monitor) that I have installed does not have any effect on session start up time. Login to Gnome classic does not show the slow session start. The system logs do not show anything suspicious. Thus, what is the best way to identify the underlying problem?

  • Ubuntu 12.04 appearance

    - by lightnight
I have just updated my old Ubuntu 11.04 to the 12.04 version and I really dislike the new appearance. Is there anyway I can go back to the old appearance? Here are some examples of the things I would like to change: the omnipresent orange colour (for example, colour of the folders, colour of the little x on the top right of the window etc.); used to be blue. The icons on the right vertical bar are unreadable: the dropbox icon has become a light grey shapeless blob, the battery icon does not indicate, as it did before, when electricity is plugged in and when it isn't. everything is just grey and orange (I chose the Radiance theme, the other ones are even worse). There used to be a lot of options choosing the shape of the windows and so on, where has all that gone? Thanks for your help!

  • Maven Command Line for NetBeans RCP Developers

    - by Geertjan
In the ongoing work being done on Maven documentation support for NetBeans Platform developers, the tutorial describing how to use the Maven command line to set up and develop applications on the NetBeans Platform has ben updated: http://platform.netbeans.org/tutorials/nbm-maven-commandline.html An interesting next step after following the tutorial above is to... open the result into the free community edition of IntelliJ IDEA: It's not hard to register the JDK and Maven in IntelliJ IDEA and to then run your application directly from there. The point is that there's no requirement to use NetBeans IDE if you want to create applications on top of its framework.
