  • I have data about deadlocks, but I can't understand why they occur (MS SQL/ASP.NET MVC)

    - by Alex
I am receiving a lot of deadlocks in my big web application. http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2941233/how-to-automatically-re-run-deadlocked-transaction-asp-net-mvc-sql-server Here I wanted to re-run deadlocked transactions, but I was told to get rid of the deadlocks - it's much better, than trying to catch the deadlocks. So I spent the whole day with SQL profiler, setting the tracing keys etc. And this is what I got. There's a Users table. I have a very high usable page with the following query (it's not the only query, but it's the one that causes troubles) UPDATE Users SET views = views + 1 WHERE ID IN (SELECT AuthorID FROM Articles WHERE ArticleID = @ArticleID) And then there's the following query in ALL pages: User = DB.Users.SingleOrDefault(u => u.Password == password && u.Name == username); That's where I get User from cookies. Very often a deadlock occurs and this second LINQ TO SQL query is chosen as a victim, so it's not run, and users of my site see an error screen. I read a lot about deadlocks... And I don't understand why this is causing a deadlock. So obviously both of this queries run very often. At least once a second. Maybe even more often (300-400 users online). So they can be run at the same time very easily, but why does it cause a deadlock? Please help. Thank you

  • What is most efficient way of setting row to zeros for a sparce scipy matrix?

    - by Alex Reinking
I'm trying to convert the following MATLAB code to Python and am having trouble finding a solution that works in any reasonable amount of time. M = diag(sum(a)) - a; where = vertcat(in, out); M(where,:) = 0; M(where, where) = 1; Here, a is a sparse matrix and where is a vector (as are in/out). The solution I have using Python is: M = scipy.sparse.diags([degs], [0]) - A where = numpy.hstack((inVs, outVs)).astype(int) M = scipy.sparse.lil_matrix(M) M[where, :] = 0 # This is the slowest line M[where, where] = 1 M = scipy.sparse.csc_matrix(M) But since A is 334863x334863, this takes like three minutes. If anyone has any suggestions on how to make this faster, please contribute them! For comparison, MATLAB does this same step imperceptibly fast. Thanks!

  • How can I find the boundaries of a subset of a sorted list?

    - by Alex
I have the following dilemma: I have a list of strings, and I want to find the set of string which start with a certain prefix. The list is sorted, so the naive solution is this: Perform binary search on the prefixes of the set, and when you find an element that starts with the prefix, traverse up linearly until you hit the top of the subset. This runs in linear time, however, and I was wondering if anyone can suggest a more efficient way to do it.

  • Getting input in system() function (Mac)

    - by Alex
#include <iostream> using namespace std; int main() { short int enterVal; cout << "enter a number to say: " << endl; cin >> enterVal; system("say "%d"") << enterVal; return 0; } Is what I am currently trying. I want the user to enter a number and the system() function says it basically. The code above has an error which says " 'd' was not declared in this scope ". Thanks in advance.

  • Can I include a view in Kohana 3 that is not within `application/views`?

    - by alex
I am building a staff area for a website, which is completely different to the main brochure style site. I have 2 Kohana systems setup. I realise they can both share the same system and modules folder. Now, with the second one, I want to make the main template view a view in a different folder. I tried this in my base controller $this->template = DOCROOT . '../~new2/application/views/template.php'; But Kohana is looking for it in its own views folder as evident by the error I received. I even put a var_dump(file_exists($this->template)); // true to be sure it was finding the correct file. Is there a way to add a template file that is not within the views folder, without hacking the core Kohana code (and if I'm lucky not extending and overloading the view class).

  • How to process a large post array in PHP where item names are all different and not known in advance

    - by Salnajjar
I have a PHP page that queries a DB to populate a form for the user to modify the data and submit. The query returns a number of rows which contain 3 items: ImageID ImageName ImageDescription The PHP page titles each box in the form with a generic name and appends the ImageID to it. Ie: ImageID_03 ImageName_34 ImageDescription_22 As it's unknown which images are going to have been retrieved from the DB then I can't know in advance what the name of the form entries will be. The form deals with a large number of entries at the same time. My backend PHP form processor that gets the data just sees it as one big array: [imageid_2] => 2 [imagename_2] => _MG_0214 [imageid_10] => 10 [imagename_10] => _MG_0419 [imageid_39] => 39 [imagename_39] => _MG_0420 [imageid_22] => 22 [imagename_22] => Curly Fern [imagedescription_2] => Wibble [imagedescription_10] => Wobble [imagedescription_39] => Fred [imagedescription_22] => Sally I've tried to do an array walk on it to split it into 3 arrays which set places but am stuck: // define empty arrays $imageidarray = array(); $imagenamearray = array(); $imagedescriptionarray = array(); // our function to call when we walk through the posted items array function assignvars($entry, $key) { if (preg_match("/imageid/i", $key)) { array_push($imageidarray, $entry); } elseif (preg_match("/imagename/i", $key)) { // echo " ImageName: $entry"; } elseif (preg_match("/imagedescription/i", $key)) { // echo " ImageDescription: $entry"; } } array_walk($_POST, 'assignvars'); This fails with the error: array_push(): First argument should be an array in... Am I approaching this wrong?

  • Logging errors in ASP.NET (MVC) through the Custom Error

    - by Alex
In my web.config I have the following: <customErrors mode="RemoteOnly" defaultRedirect="/error.aspx"/> When an error occurs, the user is redirected to /error.aspx?aspxerrorpath=/somepage where I can get user's name, name of the page, date, but... I can't get the error message! I can get it via the OnException method, but then I won't be able to get the name of the page which is very important for me. How can I get both the page and the error message?

  • Possible to push a hash value only if it is unique?

    - by Structure
In the example code below, assuming that the value $keyvalue is constantly changing, I am attempting to use a single line (or something similarly contained) to test and see if the current $keyvalue already exists. If it does, then do nothing. If it does not, then push it. This line would reside within a while statement which is why it needs to be contained within a few lines. Preserving order does not matter as long as there are no duplicate values. my $key = "numbers"; my $keyvalue = 1; my %hash = ($key => '1'); push (@{$hash{$key}}, $keyvalue) unless exists $hash{$key}; I am not getting any errors with use strict; use warnings;, but at the same time this is not working. In the example above, I would expect that since the default value is 1 that the $keyvalue would not be pushed as it is also 1. Perhaps I have gotten myself all turned around... Are there adjustments to get this to work or any alternatives that can be used instead to accomplish the same thing?

  • How to enable core dump in my Linux C++ program

    - by Alex Farber
My program is written in C++. compiled with gcc, using -g3 -O0 -ggdb flags. When it crashes, I want to open its core dump. Does it create core dump file, or I need to do something to enable core dump creation, in the program itself, or on computer where it is executed? Where this file is created, and what is its name?

  • Problem with underscore(_) in Collections.binarySearch (Java)

    - by Alex Cheng
Hi all. Problem: I am using Java Tutorials™ sourcecode for this. This is the source code. I tried this: --following with another section of sorted words-- words.add("count"); words.add("cvs"); words.add("dce"); words.add("depth"); --following with another section of sorted words-- and it works perfectly. However when I use this: --just a section of sorted words-- words.add("count"); words.add("cvs"); words.add("dce_iface"); words.add("dce_opnum"); words.add("dce_stub_data"); words.add("depth"); --following with another section of sorted words-- It does show dce_iface when I type dce, but when I type _ then following with o or s it shows me something else like dce_offset where the offset comes from words.add("fragoffset"); somewhere in the list. What can I do to solve this problem? Thank you in advance.

  • Question about inserting/updating rows with MS SQL (ASP.NET MVC)

    - by Alex
I have a very big table with a lot of rows, every row has stats for every user for certain days. And obviously I don't have any stats for future. So to update the stats I use UPDATE Stats SET Visits=@val WHERE ... a lot of conditions ... AND Date=@Today But what if the row doesn't exist? I'd have to use INSERT INTO Stats (...) VALUES (Visits=@val, ..., Date=@Today) How can I check if the row exists or not? Is there any way different from doing the COUNT(*)? If I fill the table with empty cells, it'd take hundreds of thousands of rows taking megabytes and storing no data.

  • Empty files generated from running `mysqldump` using PHP

    - by alex
I keep getting empty files generated from running $command = 'mysqldump --opt -h localhost -u username -p \'password\' dbname > \'backup 2009-04-15 09-57-13.sql\''; command($command); Anyone know what might be causing this? My password has strange characters in it, but works fine with connecting to the db. I've ran exec($command, $return) and outputted the $return array and it is finding the command. I've also ran it with mysqldump > file.sql and the file contains Usage: mysqldump [OPTIONS] database [tables] OR mysqldump [OPTIONS] --databases [OPTIONS] DB1 [DB2 DB3...] OR mysqldump [OPTIONS] --all-databases [OPTIONS] For more options, use mysqldump --help So it would seem like the command is working.

  • Does Visual Studio 2010 have tooling support for IronRuby?

    - by Alex
I am interested in the following features: Code highlighting, Intellisense, Refactorings, Code navigation (Go to Definition etc.). If this functionality is missing from Visual Studio 2010 maybe Microsoft is planning to add these features in the future or there are community project to develop IronRuby tooling add-in?

  • Translate sequence in macro parameters to separate macros

    - by Alex Tiger
How to acces each element in macro if the definition is like MACRO(name, seq) and the code is like: MACRO("TheName", (Elem1) (Elem2) (Elem3) ) I want to generate the next code: MACRO("TheName", ELEMMACRO(Elem1) ELEMMACRO(Elem2) ELEMMACRO(Elem3) ) Or something like that. In other words, I want to process every parameter separately (I don't care of definition, even if it will be something like MACRO("TheName", Elem1, Elem2, Elem3 ) There could be more elements, there could be less. I have tried V_ARGS (I need it only for gcc), but I can only copy all the elements by that, not to process them separately. What can I do? P.S. Because of some reasons, I can't use Boost.

  • Having trouble using jQuery's .animate() to animate a div from left to right, right to left?

    - by Alex
    Hello, I seem to be having difficulties using jQuery .animate() to animate an absolutely positioned div from right to left on a button click, and left to right on another button click. I was wondering if you would be willing to help me understand what I'm doing wrong? Thanks. Below is my relevant CSS, HTML, and jQuery code. I can click the #moveLeft button and it wil indeed animate it to the left, but when I click the #moveRight button, nothing happens. Where am I going wrong? Thanks!! CSS #scorecardTwo { position:absolute; padding:5px; width: 300px; background-color:#E1E1E1; right:0px; top:0px; display:none; } HTML text text Left Right jQuery $("#scorecardTwo").fadeIn("slow"); $("#moveLeft").bind("click", function() { var config = { "left" : function() { return $(this).offset().left; }, "right" : function() { return $("body").innerWidth() - $K("#scorecardTwo").width(); } }; $("#scorecardTwo").css(config).animate({"left": "0px"}, "slow"); $(this).attr("disabled", "disabled"); $("#moveRight").attr("disabled", ""); }); $("#moveRight").bind("click", function() { var config = { "left" : function() { return $(this).offset().left; }, "right" : function() { return $("body").innerWidth() - $K("#scorecardTwo").width(); } }; $("#scorecardTwo").css(config).animate({"right" : "0px"}, "slow"); $(this).attr("disabled", "disabled"); $("#moveLeft").attr("disabled", ""); });
