I have a VS.NET 2008 project. Is it possible to check for classes that are not used anywere in the project? With FXcop I can find unused variables and unused code, but not unused classes.
I've been searching on how to do Unit testing and find thats is quite easy, but, what I want to know is, In a asp.net mvc application, what should be REALLY important to test and which methods you guys use?
I just can't find a clear answer on about WHAT TO REALLY TEST when programming unit tests.
I just don't want to make unecessary tests and loose developement time doing overkill tests.
Hi,
I want to programatically create a directory on the server using ASP.NET.
I have done this using System.IO's Directory.CreateDirctory. however, the newly created folder is not accessible in the code.
after searching a bit, I came to know that the newly create folder is not included the project and hence not accessible.
Can anyone please help me out on this.
Thank You
Hi,
I'm thinking of developing the following but wondering if it already exists out there:
I need a SQL based solution for assigning and managing localization text values for an asp.net site instead of using RESX files. This helps maintain text on the site without having to take it down for deployment whenever an update is required.
Thanks.
Hi,
I'm trying to accomplish something like Blogengine.Net's way of handlling extensions/plugins. The goal is to have a plugin as a ordinary class file (not a dll), put it in a folder and the webapplication should load it dynamically.
Any help, links, anything is much appreciated.
Don't really know where to begin.

I have a .net Console Application called FooConsole. When I build and deploy it, I see that the App.config file from my project is deployed to FooConsole.exe.config.
How can I deploy the .config file to Foo.config instead of FooConsole.exe.config and still have it read as the default .config file?
I tried to convert a project that relies on the vjs runtime to vs2010, but it errors out when trying to run. It's giving the error that "Could not load file or assembly 'vjslib' or one of its dependencies. An attempt was made to load a program with an incorrect format." I reinstalled the vjs runtime, but it didn't seem to help. Is there any way to get get .net 4 to work with this? Thanks!
I have COM function that returns BOOL -- which is simply a typedef for int -- and I'm generating a .Net wrapper using Visual Studio. Is there a way I can have the wrapper automatically convert the BOOL to the C# bool type and return that?
I have created database which has columns
- MemName
- monthlyAmt
- CurrentInstAmt
I have bound the Memname column with a DropDownList box;
onselection of memname value in DropDownList box, the corresponding values of currentInstAmt and monthlyamt should be displayed in Textbox.

For the life of me I cannot deserialize the protobuf file from Open Street Maps.
I am trying to deserialize the following extract: http://download.geofabrik.de/osm/north-america/us-northeast.osm.pbf to get Nodes and I am using http://code.google.com/p/protobuf-net/ as the library. I have tried to deserialize a bunch of different objects but they all come up null.
The proto files can be found here: http://trac.openstreetmap.org/browser/applications/utils/export/osm2pgsql/protobuf
Any suggestions?
UPDATE: looks like I've misunderstood what TempData is for and what it isn't. It definitively shouldn't be used to "keep certain session-wide data" as I asked initially (see ASP.NET MVC TempData Is Really RedirectData why). I've modified the question accordingly.
Has anyone used CookieTempDataProvider for TempData storage? Are there any caveats to watch out for (apart from keeping the session storage small)? Any issues with using it on Web farms?
Hi,
I'm wondering whether it's possible to use built in ASP.NET application services (aspnet_user, aspnet_role etc table) without specifying a connection string in a web.config.
At the moment I store connection strings externally, but I keep finding hard-coded connection strings all over the web.config xml, various providers etc. It's driving me crazy.
Thank you
I m using Microsoft Enterprise Library 3.1 for Exception Handling in asp.net, the erors are stored in Event Viewer of the system . Instead of Event Viewer I need to store these errors in a log File using Enterprise Library. Suggest some methods to implement it. Thanks in advance.
I have developed an application in vb.net2008 and database sqlserver. Now i want to ignore the database (it has 1 table as customer(name, password, hour, minute)) as i dont want my client to install sqlserver separately or other overheads.
I am planning to do the whole using file handling in vb.net(manipulating the data in files itself eg change username, password etc). As I am new i don't actually know the proper way and of course need assistance.
I am building an ASP.NET Web User Control which has a panel within it.
How do I make the Panel within the user control resizable (i.e. with handles) at design time in Visual Studio.
I need to create a design class or something??
Thanks.
I'm thinking of creating a diagnostics page for an ASP.NET app, which would be mostly intended for admin use to get more information about the application for diagnosing problems.
Examples of the info the page might have :
System.Environment.MachineName (might be useful in web farm scenarios)
System.Environment.Version
Environment.UserName
database name
current user's session ID
Some of the info on this page might be sensitive from a security perspective.
If you've done this sort of page before, what sort of security did you put on access to this page ? .
How I can create thumbnail from url.
For example:
Like Digg website, when I submit a link, Digg for me chose a Thumbnail from any images on that URL.
Or like Facebook, when I submit a link, I can chose a thumbnail for that link.
So, how i can do that with asp.net/C#. I just want create thumbnail (not Screen Shot of web page)
Thanks so much.
Currently I have a site that is using Google Checkout's mini cart system and I like it a lot, however, I'm wondering if there is a more professional way of doing it, while still keeping it simple.
I've looked into an authorize.net account, but I need to find a way to handle the mini shopping cart before heading off to process the order.
Are there any good open source mini shopping carts that are not linked with a merchant service?
Hi,
Was wondering if there are any transactions support in asp.net for MVC 2? i.e. commit & rollback?
I have a few slightly risky db transacts which i'd prefer firmed up with transactions.
could the system transactions namespace be incorporated into a respository of db calls?
