  • Incorrect syntax inserting data into table

    - by SelectDistinct
    I am having some trouble with my update() method. The idea is that the user Provides a recipe name, ingredients, instructions and then selects an image using Filestream. Once the user clicks 'Add Recipe' this will call the update method, however as things stand I am getting an error which is mentioning the contents of the text box: Here is the update() method code: private void updatedata() { // filesteam object to read the image // full length of image to a byte array try { // try to see if the image has a valid path if (imagename != "") { FileStream fs; fs = new FileStream(@imagename, FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); // a byte array to read the image byte[] picbyte = new byte[fs.Length]; fs.Read(picbyte, 0, System.Convert.ToInt32(fs.Length)); fs.Close(); //open the database using odp.net and insert the lines string connstr = @"Server=mypcname\SQLEXPRESS;Database=RecipeOrganiser;Trusted_Connection=True"; SqlConnection conn = new SqlConnection(connstr); conn.Open(); string query; query = "insert into Recipes(RecipeName,RecipeImage,RecipeIngredients,RecipeInstructions) values (" + textBox1.Text + "," + " @pic" + "," + textBox2.Text + "," + textBox3.Text + ")"; SqlParameter picparameter = new SqlParameter(); picparameter.SqlDbType = SqlDbType.Image; picparameter.ParameterName = "pic"; picparameter.Value = picbyte; SqlCommand cmd = new SqlCommand(query, conn); cmd.Parameters.Add(picparameter); cmd.ExecuteNonQuery(); MessageBox.Show("Image successfully saved"); cmd.Dispose(); conn.Close(); conn.Dispose(); Connection(); } } catch (Exception ex) { MessageBox.Show(ex.Message); } } Can anyone see where I have gone wrong with the insert into Recipes query or suggest an alternative approach to this part of the code?

  • Performance optimization for SQL Server: decrease stored procedures execution time or unload the ser

    - by tim
    We have a web service which provides search over hotels. There is a problem with performance: a single request to the service takes around 5000 ms. Almost all of the time is spent in database by executing storing procedures. During the request our server (mssql2008) consumes ~90% of the processor time. When 2 requests are made in parallel the average time grows and is around 7000 ms. When number of request is increasing, the average time of response is increasing as well. We have 20-30 requests per minute. Which kind of optimization is the best in this case having in mind that the goal is to provide stable response time for the service: 1) Try to decrease the stored procedures execution time 2) Try to find the way how to unload the server It is interesting to hear from people who deal with booking sites.

  • VSC++, virtual method at bad adress, curious bug

    - by antoon.groenewoud
    Hello, This guy: virtual phTreeClass* GetTreeClass() const { return (phTreeClass*)m_entity_class; } When called, crashed the program with an access violation, even after a full recompile. All member functions and virtual member functions had correct memory adresses (I hovered mouse over the methods in debug mode), but this function had a bad memory adress: 0xfffffffc. Everything looked okay: the 'this' pointer, and everything works fine up until this function call. This function is also pretty old and I didn't change it for a long time. The problem just suddenly popped up after some work, which I commented all out to see what was doing it, without any success. So I removed the virtual, compiled, and it works fine. I add virtual, compiled, and it still works fine! I basically changed nothing, and remember that I did do a full recompile earlier, and still had the error back then. I wasn't able to reproduce the problem. But now it is back. I didn't change anything. Removing virtual fixes the problem. Sincerely, Antoon

  • MS Detours Library, detouring non win api function

    - by flavour404
    Hi, I want to use the windows detours library to detour a non win api function. The function is part of the Qt library (QtGui4.dll). I am wondering how I would set up the function signature for : void QPainter::drawText ( const QPointF & position, const QString & text ) I had a go with this and it received my usual share of errors, a little explanation of requirements would be interesting as well: void (QPainter * real_drawText)(const QPointF & position, const QString & text) = drawText This is what they look like for TextOut, under the windows API: BOOL (WINAPI * Real_TextOut)(HDC a0, int a1, int a2, LPCWSTR a3, int a4) = TextOutW; BOOL WINAPI Mine_TextOut(HDC hdc,int X,int Y,LPCWSTR text,int textLen) { BOOL rv = Real_TextOut(hdc, X, Y, text, textLen); HWND hWindow = WindowFromDC(hdc); SendTextMessage(hWindow, text); return rv; } Thanks.

  • Visual Studio Question: How to go to a specific file path and line number programmatically?

    - by Jack
    In the Visual Studio output window, you can double click a line that contains a file path and line number and it automatically takes you to that location. In my program, I need to mimic this behavior and be able to click something (a button for example) and do go to a specific file and line number that I tell it to go to. Any help/suggestions would be appreciated. I am working in C#.

  • AM I using DO WHILE NOT and EOF in VBscript Properly

    - by Derek Drummond
    This block of code is causing my page to fail to load. When I comment out the line `DO WHILE NOT Rs.EOF the page loads properly. SQL_Command_String = "SELECT * FROM Seminars WHERE [SeminarID] = 5 ORDER BY DESC" Rs = SQLConnection.Execute(SQL_Command_String) DO WHILE NOT Rs.EOF file1 = "./seminars/" & seminar_type & "/" & seminar_year & "/" & Rs("Date") & "-" & Rs("Year") & "_" & Rs("Last") & ".pdf" file2 = "./seminars/" & seminar_type & "/" & seminar_year & "/" & Rs("Date") & "-" & seminar_year & "_" & Rs("Last") & "(handouts).pdf" file3 = "./seminars/" & seminar_type & "/" & seminar_year & "/" & Rs("Date") & "-" & seminar_year & "_" & Rs("Last") & "_Flyer.pdf" Rs.MoveNext loop Is the SQL_Command_String an invalid SQL Command or is my reader not being used properly when I try to build that specific file path e.g. Rs("Date")? Is there an option where I could do something like: DO WHILE RS.hasNextLine

  • Explain this C# code: byte* p = (byte*) (void*) Scan0;

    - by qulzam
    I found the code from the net in which i cant understand this line:- byte* p = (byte*)(void*)Scan0; There Scan0 is System.IntPtr. It is code of C#.Net. Plz Explain the above line. The complete code is given below. this is code to convert a image in grayscale. public static Image GrayScale(Bitmap b) { BitmapData bmData = b.LockBits(new Rectangle(0, 0, b.Width, b.Height), ImageLockMode.ReadWrite, PixelFormat.Format24bppRgb); int stride = bmData.Stride; System.IntPtr Scan0 = bmData.Scan0; unsafe { byte* p = (byte*)(void*)Scan0; int nOffset = stride - b.Width * 3; byte red, green, blue; for (int y = 0; y < b.Height; ++y) { for (int x = 0; x < b.Width; ++x) { blue = p[0]; green = p[1]; red = p[2]; p[0] = p[1] = p[2] = (byte)(.299 * red + .587 * green + .114 * blue); p += 3; } p += nOffset; } } b.UnlockBits(bmData); return (Image)b; } I understand all the code but only have the problem on this line. byte* p = (byte*)(void*)Scan0;

  • Set HttpContext.Current.User from Thread.CurrentPrincipal

    - by Argons
    I have a security manager in my application that works for both windows and web, the process is simple, just takes the user and pwd and authenticates them against a database then sets the Thread.CurrentPrincipal with a custom principal. For windows applications this works fine, but I have problems with web applications. After the process of authentication, when I'm trying to set the Current.User to the custom principal from Thread.CurrentPrincipal this last one contains a GenericPrincipal. Am I doing something wrong? This is my code: Login.aspx protected void btnAuthenticate_Click(object sender, EventArgs e) { Authenticate("user","pwd"); FormsAuthenticationTicket authenticationTicket = new FormsAuthenticationTicket(1, "user", DateTime.Now, DateTime.Now.AddMinutes(30), false, ""); string ticket = FormsAuthentication.Encrypt(authenticationTicket); HttpCookie authenticationCookie = new HttpCookie(FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName, ticket); Response.Cookies.Add(authenticationCookie); Response.Redirect(FormsAuthentication.GetRedirectUrl("user", false)); } Global.asax (This is where the problem appears) protected void Application_AuthenticateRequest(object sender, EventArgs e) { HttpCookie authCookie = Context.Request.Cookies[FormsAuthentication.FormsCookieName]; if (authCookie == null) return; if (HttpContext.Current.User != null && HttpContext.Current.User.Identity.IsAuthenticated && HttpContext.Current.User.Identity is FormsIdentity) { HttpContext.Current.User = System.Threading.Thread.CurrentPrincipal; //Here the value is GenericPrincipal } Thanks in advance for any help. }

  • Are there any general guidelines for increasing the generation of reports?

    - by David Thielen
    Yes a lot of what you need to do is specific not only to the vendor you use, but also to the specific reports you are creating. However, there are also good general rules that hold for most reports. Vendor Best Practices BIRT Best Practices (more why you need a 3 day class to learn all of them) Crystal Reports Best Practices Microsoft Sql Server Best Practices Oracle B.I. • Strange Values in SYS.DM_TRAN_LOCKS table RESOURCE_ASSOCIATED_ENTITY_ID column

    - by AJM
    I’ve been trying to understand some strange values in the RESOURCE_ASSOCIATED_ENTITY_ID column of SYS.DM_TRAN_LOCKS when RESOURCE_TYPE is “OBJECT”. Although these should be object Ids, I cannot determine what object they actually refer to. I’ve tried everything I can think of, including querying all system tables with columns of type INT and BIGINT to see if I can find the value. No luck. The funny values actually appear in SYS.DM_TRAN_LOCKS, SYS.SYSLOCKINFO and SP_LOCK.

  • Losing DateTimeOffset precision when using C#

    - by Darvis Lombardo
    I have a SQL Server table with a CreatedDate field of type DateTimeOffset(2). A sample value which is in the table is 2010-03-01 15:18:58.57 -05:00 As an example, from within C# I retrieve this value like so: var cmd = new SqlCommand("SELECT CreatedDate FROM Entities WHERE EntityID = 2", cn); var da = new SqlDataAdapter(cmd); DataTable dt =new DataTable(); da.Fill(dt); And I look at the value: MessageBox.Show(dt.Rows[0][0].ToString()); The result is 2010-03-01 15:18:58 -05:00, which is missing the .57 that is stored in the database. If I look at dt.Rows[0][0] in the Watch window, I also do not see the .57, so it appears it has been truncated. Can someone shed some light on this? I need to use the date to match up with other records in the database and the .57 is needed. Thanks! Darvis

  • SQL - Two foreign keys that have a dependency between them

    - by Brian
    The current structure is as follows: Table RowType: RowTypeID Table RowSubType: RowSubTypeID FK_RowTypeID Table ColumnDef: FK_RowTypeID FK_RowSubTypeID (nullable) In short, I'm mapping column definitions to rows. In some cases, those rows have subtype(s), which will have column definitions specific to them. Alternatively, I could hang those column definitions that are specific to subtypes off their own table, or I could combine the data in RowType and RowSubType into one table and work with a single ID, but I'm not sure either is a better solution (if anything, I'd lean towards the latter, as we mostly end up pulling ColumnDefs for a given RowType/RowSubType). Is the current design SQL Blasphemy? If I keep the current structuree, how do I maintain that if RowSubTypeID is specified in ColumnDef, that it must correspond to the RowType specified by RowTypeID? Should I try to enforce this with a trigger or am I missing a simple redesign that would solve the problem?

  • Replication - User defined table type not propogating to subscriber

    - by Aamod Thakur
    I created a User defined table type named tvp_Shipment with two columns (id and name) . generated a snapshot and the User defined table type was properly propogated to all the subscribers. I was using this tvp in a stored procedure and everything worked fine. Then I wanted to add one more column created_date to this table valued parameter.I dropped the stored procedure (from replication too) and also i dropped and recreated the User defined table type with 3 columns and then recreated the stored procedure and enabled it for publication When i generate a new snapshot, the changes in user defined table type are not propogated to the subscriber. The newly added column was not added to the subscription. the Error messages: The schema script 'usp_InsertAirSa95c0e23_218.sch' could not be propagated to the subscriber. • How can I automatically generate sql update scripts when some data is updated ?

    - by Brann
    I'd like to automatically generate an update script each time a value is modified in my database. In other words, if a stored procedure, or a query, or whatever updates column a with value b in table c (which as a pk column (i,j...k), I want to generate this : update c set a=b where i=... and j=... and k=... and store it somewhere (for example as a raw string in a table). To complicate things, I want the script to be generated only if the update has been made by a specific user. Good news is that I've got a primary key defined for all my tables. I can see how to do this using a trigger, but I would need to generate specific triggers for each table, and to update them each and every-time my schema changes. I guess there are some built-in ways to do this as SQL server sometimes need to store this kind of things (while using transactional replication for example), but couldn't find anything so far ... any ideas ? I'm also interested in ways to automatically generate triggers (probably using triggers - meta triggers, huh? - since I will need to update triggers automatically when the schema change)

  • Which SQL query is faster? Filter on Join criteria or Where clause?

    - by Jon Erickson
    Compare these 2 queries. Is it faster to put the filter on the join criteria or in the were clause. I have always felt that it is faster on the join criteria because it reduces the result set at the soonest possible moment, but I don't know for sure. I'm going to build some tests to see, but I also wanted to get opinions on which would is clearer to read as well. Query 1 SELECT * FROM TableA a INNER JOIN TableXRef x ON a.ID = x.TableAID INNER JOIN TableB b ON x.TableBID = b.ID WHERE a.ID = 1 /* <-- Filter here? */ Query 2 SELECT * FROM TableA a INNER JOIN TableXRef x ON a.ID = x.TableAID AND a.ID = 1 /* <-- Or filter here? */ INNER JOIN TableB b ON x.TableBID = b.ID

  • jQuery "growl-like" effect in VB.net

    - by StealthRT
    Hey all, i have made a simple form that mimiks the jQuery "GROWL" effect seen here http://www.sandbox.timbenniks.com/projects/jquery-notice/ However, i have ran into a problem. If i have more than one call to the form to display a "Growl" then it just refreshes the same form with whatever call i send it. In other words, i can only display one form at a time instead of having one drop down and a new one appear above it. Here is my simple form code for the "GROWL" form: Public Class msgWindow Public howLong As Integer Public theType As String Private loading As Boolean Protected Overrides Sub OnPaint(ByVal pe As System.Windows.Forms.PaintEventArgs) Dim pn As New Pen(Color.DarkGreen) If theType = "OK" Then pn.Color = Color.DarkGreen ElseIf theType = "ERR" Then pn.Color = Color.DarkRed Else pn.Color = Color.DarkOrange End If pn.Width = 2 pe.Graphics.DrawRectangle(pn, 0, 0, Me.Width, Me.Height) pn = Nothing End Sub Public Sub showMessageBox(ByVal typeOfBox As String, ByVal theMessage As String) Me.Opacity = 0 Me.Show() Me.SetDesktopLocation(My.Computer.Screen.WorkingArea.Width - 350, 15) Me.loading = True theType = typeOfBox lblSaying.Text = theMessage If typeOfBox = "OK" Then Me.BackColor = Color.FromArgb(192, 255, 192) ElseIf typeOfBox = "ERR" Then Me.BackColor = Color.FromArgb(255, 192, 192) Else Me.BackColor = Color.FromArgb(255, 255, 192) End If If Len(theMessage) <= 30 Then howLong = 4000 ElseIf Len(theMessage) >= 31 And Len(theMessage) <= 80 Then howLong = 7000 ElseIf Len(theMessage) >= 81 And Len(theMessage) <= 100 Then howLong = 12000 Else howLong = 17000 End If Me.opacityTimer.Start() End Sub Private Sub opacityTimer_Tick(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles opacityTimer.Tick If Me.loading Then Me.Opacity += 0.07 If Me.Opacity >= 0.8 Then Me.opacityTimer.Stop() Me.opacityTimer.Dispose() Pause(howLong) Me.loading = False Me.opacityTimer.Start() End If Else Me.Opacity -= 0.08 If Me.Opacity <= 0 Then Me.opacityTimer.Stop() Me.Close() End If End If End Sub Public Sub Pause(ByVal Milliseconds As Integer) Dim dTimer As Date dTimer = Now.AddMilliseconds(Milliseconds) Do While dTimer > Now Application.DoEvents() Loop End Sub End Class I call the form by this simple call: Call msgWindow.showMessageBox("OK", "Finished searching images.") Does anyone know a way where i can have the same setup but would allow me to add any number of forms without refreshing the same form over and over again? Like always, any help would be great! :) David
