• What's the best Linux backup solution?

    - by Jon Bright
    We have a four Linux boxes (all running Debian or Ubuntu) on our office network. None of these boxes are especially critical and they're all using RAID. To date, I've therefore been doing backups of the boxes by having a cron job upload tarballs containing the contents of /etc, MySQL dumps and other such changing, non-packaged data to a box at our geographically separate hosting centre. I've realised, however that the tarballs are sufficient to rebuild from, but it's certainly not a painless process to do so (I recently tried this out as part of a hardware upgrade of one of the boxes) long-term, the process isn't sustainable. Each of the boxes is currently producing a tarball of a couple of hundred MB each day, 99% of which is the same as the previous day partly due to the size issue, the backup process requires more manual intervention than I want (to find whatever 5GB file is inflating the size of the tarball and kill it) again due to the size issue, I'm leaving stuff out which it would be nice to include - the contents of users' home directories, for example. There's almost nothing of value there that isn't in source control (and these aren't our main dev boxes), but it would be nice to keep them anyway. there must be a better way So, my question is, how should I be doing this properly? The requirements are: needs to be an offsite backup (one of the main things I'm doing here is protecting against fire/whatever) should require as little manual intervention as possible (I'm lazy, and box-herding isn't my main job) should continue to scale with a couple more boxes, slightly more data, etc. preferably free/open source (cost isn't the issue, but especially for backups, openness seems like a good thing) an option to produce some kind of DVD/Blu-Ray/whatever backup from time to time wouldn't be bad My first thought was that this kind of incremental backup was what tar was created for - create a tar file once each month, add incrementally to it. rsync results to remote box. But others probably have better suggestions.

  • CSS Horizontal sub menu - IE 6,7 both dont working, tried with whatever hover.

    - by SHAKTI
    I'm not expert about css menus. But I know basic system to make css menu. I used this system before and works, but this time it is not working. The site is http://www.uniethos.com. Please check this site This menu works with all other latest Browsers. But not with IE 6 & 7. I know IE6 don't support hover except anchor. So before I was using Whatever Hover. But this time it is not working and even with IE7. I don't know why its happening. May be there could be some problem with my css. Please check the css. If you don't have IE 6 or 7 installed you can run one from http://spoon.net/browsers/. Require to install one plugin. The CSS I'm using for the menu is .glossymenu{ background: #B4B3B3; height: 30px; width: 100%; padding: 0; margin: 0; display:inline-block; position:relative; } .glossymenu ul { list-style: none; padding: 0px; margin: 0; padding-left: 0px; } .glossymenu li ul { display:none; position:absolute; width: 80%; top:30px; left:0px; background-color:#5B0C10; border:0px; z-index: 99; } .glossymenu li li a { padding: 0px 10px 0px 10px; } .glossymenu li li a:hover { background : #871016; } .glossymenu li{ float:left; padding: 0; } .glossymenu li a{ float: left; display:block; position:relative; color:#FFF; text-decoration: none; font-family: sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-weight: bold; padding:0 0 0 16px; /*Padding to accomodate left tab image. • Adding a validator to the gridview textbox, created in edit-mode of a bound field

    - by user181218
    Hi,take a look at this sample code: (question bellow) <asp:GridView ID="GridView1" runat="server" AllowPaging="True" AllowSorting="True" DataSourceID="SqlDataSource2" AutoGenerateColumns="False" onrowupdated="GridView1_RowUpdated" DataKeyNames="Product_Id"> <Columns> <asp:ImageField DataImageUrlField="Image_Name" HeaderText="Image_Name" ReadOnly="True" > <ItemStyle Width="50px" Height="50px" Wrap="true"/> </asp:ImageField> <asp:BoundField DataField="Product_Id" HeaderText="Product_Id" InsertVisible="False" ReadOnly="True" SortExpression="Product_Id"> </asp:BoundField> <asp:BoundField DataField="Product_Name" HeaderText="Product_Name" SortExpression="Product_Name" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Category_Name" HeaderText="Category_Name" SortExpression="Category_Name" ReadOnly="true" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Description" HeaderText="Description" SortExpression="Description" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Size" HeaderText="Size" SortExpression="Size" /> <asp:BoundField DataField="Price" HeaderText="Price" SortExpression="Price" /> <asp:CommandField ShowEditButton="True" /> <asp:CommandField ShowDeleteButton="True" /> </Columns> </asp:GridView> Assume I initialize an SqlDataSource, add a parameter and so on. The thing is, that when a user clicks edit we get a textbox to edit the colnumn value. I want to validate the data enter by the user before the update is performed and the new data is propagated back to the server.How? 10x a lot!

  • Sizing issues while adding a .Net UserControl to a TabPage

    - by TJ_Fischer
    I have a complex Windows Forms GUI program that has a lot of automated control generation and manipulation. One thing that I need to be able to do is add a custom UserControl to a newly instatiated TabPage. However, when my code does this I get automatic resizing events that cause the formatting to get ugly. Without detailing all of the different Containers that could possibly be involved, the basic issue is this: At a certain point in the code I create a new tab page: TabPage tempTabPage = new TabPage("A New Tab Page"); Then I set it to a certain size that I want it to maintain: tempTabPage.Width = 1008; tempTabPage.Height = 621; Then I add it to a TabControl: tabControl.TabPages.Add(tempTabPage); Then I create a user control that I want to appear in the newly added TabPage: CustomView customView = new CustomView("A new custom control"); Here is where the problem comes in. At this point both the tempTabPage and the customView are the same size with no padding or margin and they are the size I want them to be. I now try to add this new custom UserControl to the tab page like this: tempTabPage.Controls.Add(customView); When making this call the customView and it's children controls get resized to be larger and so parts of the customView are hidden. Can anyone give me any direction on what to look for or what could be causing this kind of issue? Thanks ahead of time.

  • Recursive Enumeration in Java

    - by Harm De Weirdt
    Hello everyone. I still have a question about Enumerations. Here's a quick sketch of the situation. I have a class Backpack that has a Hashmap content with as keys a variable of type long, and as value an ArrayList with Items. I have to write an Enumeration that iterates over the content of a Backpack. But here's the catch: in a Backpack, there can also be another Backpack. And the Enumeration should also be able to iterate over the content of a backpack that is in the backpack. (I hope you can follow, I'm not really good at explaining..) Here is the code I have: public Enumeration getEnumeration() { return new Enumeration() { private int itemsDone = 0; //I make a new array with all the values of the HashMap, so I can use //them in nextElement() Collection<Long> keysCollection = getContent().keySet(); Long [] keys = keysCollection.toArray(new Long[keysCollection.size()]); public boolean hasMoreElements() { if(itemsDone < getContent().size()) { return true; }else { return false; } } public Object nextElement() { ArrayList
temporaryList= getContent().get(keys[itemsDone]); for(int i = 0; i < temporaryList.size(); i++) { if(temporaryList.get(i) instanceof Backpack) { return temporaryList.get(i).getEnumeration(); }else { return getContent().get(keys[itemsDone++]); } } } }; Will this code work decently? It's just the "return temporaryList.get(i).getEnumeration();" I'm worried about. Will the users still be able to use just the hasMoreElemens() and nextElement() like he would normally do? Any help is appreciated, Harm De Weirdt

  • How to load mysql data on separate forms

    - by user225269
    I used this code to add the data in the mysql table. But I do not know how to separate them because they are only stored in one column: $birthday = mysql_real_escape_string($_POST['yyyy'] . '-' . $_POST['mm'] . '-' . $_POST['dd']); How do I load them in here, so that the month, day, and year will be separated:

Birthday

  --Month-- Jan Feb Mar Apr May Jun Jul Aug Sep Oct Nov Dec  <input title="Day" type="text" onkeypress="return isNumberKey(event)" name="dd" value="" size="1" maxlength="2" id='numbers'/ >

Please help.

  • Appending unique values only in a linked list in C

    - by LuckySlevin
    typedef struct child {int count; char word[100]; inner_list*next;} child; typedef struct parent { char data [100]; inner_list * head; int count; outer_list * next; } parent; void append(child **q,char num[100],int size) { child *temp,*r,*temp2,*temp3; parent *out=NULL; temp = *q; temp2 = *q; temp3 = *q; char *str; if(*q==NULL) { temp = (child *)malloc(sizeof(child)); strcpy(temp->word,num); temp->count =size; temp->next=NULL; *q=temp; } else { temp = *q; while(temp->next !=NULL) { temp=temp->next; } r = (child *)malloc(sizeof(child)); strcpy(r->word,num); r->count = size; r->next=NULL; temp->next=r; } } This is my append function which I use for adding an element to my child list. But my problem is it only should append unique values which are followed by a string. Which means : Inputs : aaa bbb aaa ccc aaa bbb ccc aaa Append should act : For aaa string there should be a list like bbb->ccc(Not bbb->ccc->bbb since bbb is already there if bbb is coming more than one time it should be increase count only.) For bbb string there should be list like aaa->ccc only For ccc string there should be list like aaa only I hope i could make myself clear. Is there any ideas? Please ask for further info.

  • Reverse reading WORD from a binary file?

    - by Angel
    Hi, I have a structure: struct JFIF_HEADER { WORD marker[2]; // = 0xFFD8FFE0 WORD length; // = 0x0010 BYTE signature[5]; // = "JFIF\0" BYTE versionhi; // = 1 BYTE versionlo; // = 1 BYTE xyunits; // = 0 WORD xdensity; // = 1 WORD ydensity; // = 1 BYTE thumbnwidth; // = 0 BYTE thumbnheight; // = 0 }; This is how I read it from the file: HANDLE file = CreateFile(filename, GENERIC_READ, FILE_SHARE_READ, NULL, OPEN_EXISTING, FILE_ATTRIBUTE_NORMAL, 0); DWORD tmp = 0; DWORD size = GetFileSize(file, &tmp); BYTE *DATA = new BYTE[size]; ReadFile(file, DATA, size, &tmp, 0); JFIF_HEADER header; memcpy(&header, DATA, sizeof(JFIF_HEADER)); This is how the beginning of my file looks in hex editor: 0xFF 0xD8 0xFF 0xE0 0x00 0x10 0x4A 0x46 0x49 0x46 0x00 0x01 0x01 0x00 0x00 0x01 When I print header.marker, it shows exactly what it should (0xFFD8FFE0). But when I print header.length, it shows 0x1000 instead of 0x0010. The same thing is with xdensity and ydensity. Why do I get wrong data when reading a WORD? Thank you.

  • build SQL query string using user input

    - by user175084
    i have to make a string by using the values which the user selects on the webpage suppose i need to display files for multiple machines with differnt search criteria.. i currently use this code: DataTable dt = new DataTable(); SqlConnection connection = new SqlConnection(); connection.ConnectionString = ConfigurationManager.ConnectionStrings["DBConnectionString"].ConnectionString; connection.Open(); SqlCommand sqlCmd = new SqlCommand("SELECT FileID FROM Files WHERE MachineID=@machineID and date= @date", connection); SqlDataAdapter sqlDa = new SqlDataAdapter(sqlCmd); sqlCmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@machineID", machineID); sqlCmd.Parameters.AddWithValue("@date", date); sqlDa.Fill(dt); now this is fixed query where the user just has one machine and just selects one date... i want to make a query in which the user has multiple search options like type or size if he wants depending on what he selects also if he can select multiple machines.. SELECT FileID FROM Files WHERE (MachineID=@machineID1 or MachineID = @machineID2...) and (date= @date and size=@size and type=@type... ) all of this happens in runtime... other wise i have to create a for loop to put multiple machines one by one... and have multiple queries depending on the case the user selected... this is quiet interesting and i could use some help... thanks

  • Silverlight 3 ArcSegment to always draw circle's

    - by kapaboo
    Hi everyone, Ok, my arcSegment must always draw Circle's. For this reason I calculate the Arc's Width with the following formula: arcXRadius = (4 * Math.Pow(height, 2) + Math.Pow(distanceArcPoints, 2)) / (8 * height); so Arcs.Size = (arcXRadius,height) But seems that the height is scaled down when drawn. I want to add a small Circle to the Arc's middle (highest point) so when you drag it it changes the arc Height but also changes the Width so it will remain a circle. Here's how I calculate the Circle's (highest) point: Point middlePoint = GetMiddlePoint(arcPointA,arcPointB); double arcYRadius = arcSegment.Size.Height; if (arcYRadius <= 0) return middlePoint; double angle = arcSegment.RotationAngle; Point ellinewPoint = new Point(); ellinewPoint.X = Math.Cos((angle + 90) * Math.PI / 180) * arcYRadius + middlePoint.X; ellinewPoint.Y = Math.Sin((angle + 90) * Math.PI / 180) * arcYRadius + middlePoint.Y; Until Arc's.Size.Height Property gets Closer to the Width my Circle is not at the right Point. So maybe someone can give me a hint or tell me what am I doing wrong. Cheers, kapaboo

  • How can I stop the iPhone from displaying a transform change until after the screen is redrawn

    - by Ed Marty
    I have found the UIScrollView's zooming mechanism to be clunk and essentially unusable. So instead, I'm rolling my own. I have a UIView that resizes itself with the pinch-zoom, and that's working fine. When the zoom is complete, the view needs to reset its transform and redraw the images. The zoom works essentially in the same way the UIScrollView does. It sets the transform property of the UIView until complete. Then, when the zoom finishes, I want to reset the transform to CGAffineTransformIdentity, resize the frame to be the size it was before, and tell the view to redraw itself at the new size. It all works pretty well, except when I change the transform to identity then redraw the image, there is a slight flicker before the image completely redraws. This is due to the fact that I'm using a subclass of CATiledLayer, since the view can be of arbitrary size. I've overridden the fadeDuration to be zero, but there is still a flicker while the transform is reset before the redraw is finished. Is there any simple way to overcome this without creating another view to draw with then replacing it?

  • Obtaining FontMetrics before getting a Graphics instance

    - by Tom Castle
    Typically, I'd obtain a graphics instance something like this: BufferedImage img = new BufferedImage(width, height, BufferedImage.TYPE_INT_ARGB); Graphics2D g = img.createGraphics(); However, in the current project I'm working on, the width and height variables above are dependent upon the size of a number of text fragments that will later be drawn onto the graphics instance. But, to obtain the dimensions of the font being used I would usually use the FontMetrics that I get from the graphics object. FontMetrics metrics = g.getFontMetrics(); So, I have a nasty little dependency cycle. I cannot create the graphics object until I know the size of the text, and I cannot know the size of the text until I have a graphics object. One solution is just to create another BufferedImage/Graphics pair first in order to get the FontMetrics instance I need, but this seems unnecessary. So, is there a nicer way? Or is it the case that the width, height etc. properties for a Font are somehow dependent upon what (graphics, component...) the text is to be drawn on?

  • simplexml object node iteration

    - by MorbidWrath
    I have an xml file that I'm parsing with php's simplexml, but I'm having an issue with an iteration through nodes. the xml:

Title1

Title2

Title3

my counting function: public function cat_count($cat){ $count = 0; $items = $this->xml->channel->item; $size = count($size); for($i=0;$i<$size;$i++){ if($items[$i]->category == $cat){ $count++; } } return $count; } Am I overlooking an error in my code, or is there another preferred method for iterating through the nodes? I've also used a foreach and while statement with no luck, so I'm at a loss. Any suggestions?

  • How to prevent the other threads from accessing a method when one thread is accessing a method?

    - by geeta
    I want to search for a string in 10 files and write the matching lines to a single file. I wrote the matching lines from each file to 10 output files(o/p file1,o/p file2...) and then copied those to a single file using 10 threads. But the output single file has mixed output(one line from o/p file1,another line from o/p file 2 etc...) because its accessed simultaneously by many threads. If I wait for all threads to complete and then write the single file it will be much slower. I want the output file to be written by one thread at a time. What should i do? My source code:(only writing to single file method) public void WriteSingle(File output_file,File final_output) throws IOException { synchronized(output_file){ System.out.println("Writing Single file"); FileOutputStream fo = new FileOutputStream(final_output,true); FileChannel fi = fo.getChannel(); FileInputStream fs = new FileInputStream(output_file); FileChannel fc = fs.getChannel(); int maxCount = (64 * 1024 * 1024) - (32 * 1024); long size = fc.size(); long position = 0; while (position < size) { position += fc.transferTo(position, maxCount, fi); } } }

  • Handle BACK key event in child view

    - by Mick Byrne
    In my app, users can tap on image thumbnails to see a full size version. When the thumbnail is tapped a bunch of new views are created in code (i.e. no XML), appended at the end of the view hierarchy and some scaling and rotating transitions happen, then the full size, high res version of the image is displayed. Tapping on the full size image reverses the transitions and removes the new views from the view hierarchy. I want users to also be able to press the BACK key to reverse the image transitions. However, I can't seem to catch the KeyEvent. This is what I'm trying at the moment: // Set a click listener on the image to reverse everything frameView.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View arg0) { zoomOut(); // This works fine } }); // Set the focus onto the frame and then set a key listener to catch the back buttons frameView.setFocusable(true); frameView.setFocusableInTouchMode(true); frameView.requestFocus(); frameView.setOnKeyListener(new OnKeyListener() { @Override public boolean onKey(View v, int keyCode, KeyEvent event) { // The code never even gets here !!! if(keyCode == KeyEvent.KEYCODE_BACK && event.getRepeatCount() == 0) { zoomOut(); return true; } return false; } });

  • How to efficiently resize an array of values, without boxing, used within a Dictionary<string, float[]>

    - by makerofthings7
    In the code below, Pages is defined as public SortedDictionary<DateTime, float[]> Pages { get; set; } I am trying to dynamically increase the size of this array. Can anyone tell how to increase the sized of the innermost float[]? var tt = currentContainer.Pages[dateTime]; Array.Resize<float>(ref tt, currentContainer.Pages.Count + 1); Fail 1 I tried the following code and get index out of range exception SortedDictionary<DateTime, float[]> Pages = new SortedDictionary<DateTime,float[]>(); float[] xx = new float[1]; xx[0] = 1; DateTime tempTime = DateTime.UtcNow; Pages.Add(tempTime, xx); var tt = Pages[tempTime]; Array.Resize<float>(ref tt, Pages.Count + 1); Pages[tempTime][1] = 2; Fail 2 The following gives a compile time error (property, index, or dynamic member can't be used as a ref value) SortedDictionary<DateTime, float[]> Pages = new SortedDictionary<DateTime,float[]>(); float[] xx = new float[1]; xx[0] = 1; DateTime tempTime = DateTime.UtcNow; Pages.Add(tempTime, xx); var tt = Pages[tempTime]; // The line below is different from Fail 1 above ... compile time error Array.Resize<float>(ref Pages[tempTime], Pages.Count + 1); Pages[tempTime][1] = 2; Question What is the most performant answer to resize this array? Would the answer change if it's likely that the final size will be 100-200 floats or 700-900 floats? What if I change my allocation size from +1 to +128? .. or larger?

  • Converting "A* Search" code from C++ to Java [on hold]

    - by mr5
    Updated! I get this code from this site It's A* Search Algorithm(finding shortest path with heuristics) I modify most of variable names and some if conditions from the original version to satisfy my syntactic taste. It works in C++ (as I can't see any trouble with it) but fails in Java version. Java Code: String findPath(int startX, int startY, int finishX, int finishY) { @SuppressWarnings("unchecked") LinkedList<Node>[] nodeList = (LinkedList<Node>[]) new LinkedList<?>[2]; nodeList[0] = new LinkedList<Node>(); nodeList[1] = new LinkedList<Node>(); Node n0; Node m0; int nlIndex = 0; // queueList index // reset the node maps for(int y = 0;y < ROW_COUNT; ++y) { for(int x = 0;x < COL_COUNT; ++x) { close_nodes_map[y][x] = 0; open_nodes_map[y][x] = 0; } } // create the start node and push into list of open nodes n0 = new Node( startX, startY, 0, 0 ); n0.updatePriority( finishX, finishY ); nodeList[nlIndex].push( n0 ); open_nodes_map[startY][startX] = n0.getPriority(); // mark it on the open nodes map // A* search while( !nodeList[nlIndex].isEmpty() ) { LinkedList<Node> pq = nodeList[nlIndex]; // get the current node w/ the highest priority // from the list of open nodes n0 = new Node( pq.peek().getX(), pq.peek().getY(), pq.peek().getIterCount(), pq.peek().getPriority()); int x = n0.getX(); int y = n0.getY(); nodeList[nlIndex].pop(); // remove the node from the open list open_nodes_map[y][x] = 0; // mark it on the closed nodes map close_nodes_map[y][x] = 1; // quit searching when the goal state is reached //if((*n0).estimate(finishX, finishY) == 0) if( x == finishX && y == finishY ) { // generate the path from finish to start // by following the directions String path = ""; while( !( x == startX && y == startY) ) { int j = dir_map[y][x]; int c = '0' + ( j + Node.DIRECTION_COUNT / 2 ) % Node.DIRECTION_COUNT; path = (char)c + path; x += DIR_X[j]; y += DIR_Y[j]; } return path; } // generate moves (child nodes) in all possible directions for(int i = 0; i < Node.DIRECTION_COUNT; ++i) { int xdx = x + DIR_X[i]; int ydy = y + DIR_Y[i]; // boundary check if (!(xdx >= 0 && xdx < COL_COUNT && ydy >= 0 && ydy < ROW_COUNT)) continue; if ( ( gridMap.getData( ydy, xdx ) == GridMap.WALKABLE || gridMap.getData( ydy, xdx ) == GridMap.FINISH) && close_nodes_map[ydy][xdx] != 1 ) { // generate a child node m0 = new Node( xdx, ydy, n0.getIterCount(), n0.getPriority() ); m0.nextLevel( i ); m0.updatePriority( finishX, finishY ); // if it is not in the open list then add into that if( open_nodes_map[ydy][xdx] == 0 ) { open_nodes_map[ydy][xdx] = m0.getPriority(); nodeList[nlIndex].push( m0 ); // mark its parent node direction dir_map[ydy][xdx] = ( i + Node.DIRECTION_COUNT / 2 ) % Node.DIRECTION_COUNT; } else if( open_nodes_map[ydy][xdx] > m0.getPriority() ) { // update the priority info open_nodes_map[ydy][xdx] = m0.getPriority(); // update the parent direction info dir_map[ydy][xdx] = ( i + Node.DIRECTION_COUNT / 2 ) % Node.DIRECTION_COUNT; // replace the node // by emptying one queueList to the other one // except the node to be replaced will be ignored // and the new node will be pushed in instead while( !(nodeList[nlIndex].peek().getX() == xdx && nodeList[nlIndex].peek().getY() == ydy ) ) { nodeList[1 - nlIndex].push( nodeList[nlIndex].pop() ); } nodeList[nlIndex].pop(); // remove the wanted node // empty the larger size queueList to the smaller one if( nodeList[nlIndex].size() > nodeList[ 1 - nlIndex ].size() ) nlIndex = 1 - nlIndex; while( !nodeList[nlIndex].isEmpty() ) { nodeList[1 - nlIndex].push( nodeList[nlIndex].pop() ); } nlIndex = 1 - nlIndex; nodeList[nlIndex].push( m0 ); // add the better node instead } } } } return ""; // no route found } Output1: Legends . = PATH ? = START X = FINISH 3,2,1 = OBSTACLES (Just right) From what I read about Java's documentation, I came up with the conclusion: C++'s std::queue<T>::front() == Java's LinkedList<T>.peek() Java's LinkedList<T>.pop() == C++'s std::queue<T>::front() + std::queue<T>::pop() What might I be missing in my Java version? In what way does it became different algorithmically from the C++ version?

  • Out-of-memory algorithms for addressing large arrays

    - by reve_etrange
    I am trying to deal with a very large dataset. I have k = ~4200 matrices (varying sizes) which must be compared combinatorially, skipping non-unique and self comparisons. Each of k(k-1)/2 comparisons produces a matrix, which must be indexed against its parents (i.e. can find out where it came from). The convenient way to do this is to (triangularly) fill a k-by-k cell array with the result of each comparison. These are ~100 X ~100 matrices, on average. Using single precision floats, it works out to 400 GB overall. I need to 1) generate the cell array or pieces of it without trying to place the whole thing in memory and 2) access its elements (and their elements) in like fashion. My attempts have been inefficient due to reliance on MATLAB's eval() as well as save and clear occurring in loops. for i=1:k [~,m] = size(data{i}); cur_var = ['H' int2str(i)]; %# if i == 1; save('FileName'); end; %# If using a single MAT file and need to create it. eval([cur_var ' = cell(1,k-i);']); for j=i+1:k [~,n] = size(data{j}); eval([cur_var '{i,j} = zeros(m,n,''single'');']); eval([cur_var '{i,j} = compare(data{i},data{j});']); end save(cur_var,cur_var); %# Add '-append' when using a single MAT file. clear(cur_var); end The other thing I have done is to perform the split when mod((i+j-1)/2,max(factor(k(k-1)/2))) == 0. This divides the result into the largest number of same-size pieces, which seems logical. The indexing is a little more complicated, but not too bad because a linear index could be used. Does anyone know/see a better way?

  • friend declaration in C++

    - by Happy Mittal
    In Thinking in C++ by Bruce eckel, there is an example given regarding friend functions as // Declaration (incomplete type specification): struct X; struct Y { void f(X*); }; struct X { // Definition private: int i; public: friend void Y::f(X*); // Struct member friend }; void Y::f(X* x) { x->i = 47; } Now he explained this: Notice that Y::f(X*) takes the address of an X object. This is critical because the compiler always knows how to pass an address, which is of a fixed size regardless of the object being passed, even if it doesn’t have full information about the size of the type. If you try to pass the whole object, however, the compiler must see the entire structure definition of X, to know the size and how to pass it, before it allows you to declare a function such as Y::g(X). But when I tried void f(X); as declaration in struct Y, it shows no error. Please explain why?

  • Is there a way to find out whether a class is a direct base of another class?

    - by user176168
    Hi I'm wondering whether there is a way to find out whether a class is a direct base of another class i.e. in boost type trait terms a is_direct_base_of function. As far as I can see boost doesn't see to support this kind of functionality which leads me to think that its impossible with the current C++ standard. The reason I want it is to do some validation checking on two macro's that are used for a reflection system to specify that one class is derived from another e.g. header.h: #define BASE A #define DERIVED B class A {}; class B : public A { #include <rtti.h> }; rtti.h: // I want to check that the two macro's are correct with a compile time assert Rtti<BASE, DERIVED> m_rtti; Although the macro's seem unnecessary in this simple example in my real world scenario rtti.h is a lot more complex. One possible avenue would be to compare the size of the this pointer with the size of a this pointer cast to the base type and some how trying to figure out whether its the size of the base class itself away or something (yeah your right I don't know how that would work either! lol)

  • Convert a image to a monochrome byte array

    - by Scott Chamberlain
    I am writing a library to interface C# with the EPL2 printer language. One feature I would like to try to implement is printing images, the specification doc says p1 = Width of graphic Width of graphic in bytes. Eight (8) dots = one (1) byte of data. p2 = Length of graphic Length of graphic in dots (or print lines) Data = Raw binary data without graphic file formatting. Data must be in bytes. Multiply the width in bytes (p1) by the number of print lines (p2) for the total amount of graphic data. The printer automatically calculates the exact size of the data block based upon this formula. I plan on my source image being a 1 bit per pixel bmp file, already scaled to size. I just don't know how to get it from that format in to a byte[] for me to send off to the printer. I tried ImageConverter.ConvertTo(Object, Type) it succeeds but the array it outputs is not the correct size and the documentation is very lacking on how the output is formatted. My current test code. Bitmap i = (Bitmap)Bitmap.FromFile("test.bmp"); ImageConverter ic = new ImageConverter(); byte[] b = (byte[])ic.ConvertTo(i, typeof(byte[])); Any help is greatly appreciated even if it is in a totally different direction.

  • Scala always returning true....WHY?

    - by jhamm
    I am trying to learn Scala and am a newbie. I know that this is not optimal functional code and welcome any advice that anyone can give me, but I want to understand why I keep getting true for this function. def balance(chars: List[Char]): Boolean = { val newList = chars.filter(x => x.equals('(') || x.equals(')')); return countParams(newList, 0) } def countParams(xs: List[Char], y: Int): Boolean = { println(y + " right Here") if (y < 0) { println(y + " Here") return false } else { println(y + " Greater than 0") if (xs.size > 0) { println(xs.size + " this is the size") xs match { case xs if (xs.head.equals('(')) => countParams(xs.tail, y + 1) case xs if (xs.head.equals(')')) => countParams(xs.tail, y - 1) case xs => 0 } } } return true; } balance("()())))".toList) I know that I am hitting the false branch of my if statement, but it still returns true at the end of my function. Please help me understand. Thanks.

  • Elements of website don't work in IE

    - by mjcuva
    On the site I'm working on for my high school basketball team, certain elements don't work in Internet Explorer. The site is hermantownbasketball.com. The boys basketball sidebar should have nested drop down menus, one when you mouse over the team, such as "High School" and then another when you mouse over the grade under the team, such as 9th grade. This works perfectly fine in chrome, however, I can't get it to work in any version of Internet Explorer. Below is the part of the html and the corresponding css I am using. Unfortunately, I don't know enough css to know which part of my code IE doesn't like or how to fix it. Any help is greatly appreciated! HTML
High School

9th Grade

Schedule

Events

Forms

Calendar

JV/Varsity

Schedule

Events

Forms

Calendar

  /* Creates the box around the title for each boy section. */ .boyItem h3 { background:#1C23E8; color:#EFFA20; padding-right:2px; padding:10px; font-size:18px; margin-left:-30px; margin-top:-10px; } ###CSS .boyItem h3:hover { background:#2A8FF5; } /* Prevents the boy sub-sections from being visable */ .boyItem li h4 { position: absolute; left:-9999px; font-size:15px; list-style-type:none;} /* Shows the boy sub-sections when user mouses over the section title. */ .boyItem:hover li h4 { position:relative; left:10px; background:#1C23E8; color:#EFFA20; padding-left:20px; padding:5px; } .boyItem:hover li h4:hover { background:#2A8FF5;} .nested { position:absolute; left:-9999px; background:#352EFF; color:#EFFA20; padding-right:2px; padding:4px; font-size:14px; margin:2px; margin-left:30px; margin-top:0px; margin-right:0px; margin-bottom:-2px;} .group:hover .nested {position:relative; left:0px; } .group:hover .nested:hover { background:#2A8FF5}
