Does anyone know how to fix issue with TrustedInstaller.exe when it takes a lot of CPU?
Operating system: Windows 2008 x64
Windows' Modules Installer service is set to Manual.
Hi,
I have the following query which uses a date variable, which is generated inside the stored procedure:
DECLARE @sp_Date DATETIME
SET @sp_Date = DateAdd(m, -6, GETDATE())
SELECT DISTINCT pat.PublicationID
FROM PubAdvTransData AS pat
INNER JOIN PubAdvertiser AS pa ON pat.AdvTransID = pa.AdvTransID
WHERE (pat.LastAdDate > @sp_Date) AND (pa.AdvertiserID = 12345))
The problem is that the @sp_Date value appears to be being ignored and I am wondering why? Have I defined or used it incorrectly?

We have a project which is being developed by a 3rd party. They are using LINQ and .NET 3.5 with Visual Studio 2008. We are currently at 2005 with .NET 2. Once they have delivered the code to us, we are unsure as to whether we will be able to compile/build their code using our current Visual Studio toolkit. I know we can download .NET 3.5, but unsure as to whether we will have problems with Visual Studio.
So we are considering to upgrade. But since Visual Studio 2010 is soon to be released do we wait for that or upgrade to 2008?
I was using
CreateEx(
0,
className,
"XXX",
WS_CHILD | WS_VISIBLE | WS_CLIPSIBLINGS | WS_CLIPCHILDREN,
rect,
parent,
0);
in Visual C++ 6.0.
when i port the same to VS 2008..,
its giving an error message saying that..
error C2664: 'BOOL CWnd::CreateEx(DWORD,LPCTSTR,LPCTSTR,DWORD,const RECT &,CWnd *,UINT,LPVOID)' : cannot convert parameter 3 from 'const char [7]' to 'LPCTSTR'
how to rectify the same
thanks

Hello everyone,
I am using SharePoint Server 2007 with collaboration portal template on Windows Server2008. The default search address for a site is pointed to /SearchCenter/Pages/Results.aspx. Any ideas how to change the address to some other address? Either programming solution or easy config solution is fine.
thanks in advance,
George
The company I work for has decided to join the 21st century and upgrade our main database cluster from SQL Server 7 to SQL Server 2005. As a web developer what new whiz-bang features of SQL Server 2005 should I get excited about or get to know?
Currently I'm mainly writing CRUD style queries, pretty much exclusively using Stored Procdures for a mixed ASP.net and Classic ASP environment.
I am working through the book Learning WCF by Michele Bustamante, and trying to do it using Visual Studio C# Express 2008. The instructions say to use WCF project and item templates, which are not included with VS C# Express. There are templates for these types included with Visual Studio Web Developer Express, and I've tried to copy them over into the right directories for VS C# Express to find, but the IDE doesn't find them. Is there some registration process? Or config file somewhere?
I created a SDF (SQL CE) database with Visual Studio 2008 (Add / New Item / Local Database).
Is it possible to edit this database with SQL Server Management Studio? I tried to attach it but it only offered .mdf and attaching a .sdf file results in "failed to retrieve data for this request".
If so, is it possible to create SDF files with Management Studio as well? Or are we stuck with the simple interface of the Visual Studio 2008 database manager?
I am using InstallShield 2008 premium edition. I created one basicMSI project only to target x64 platforms. I changed summary property to "x64".
But this installer is writing registry entries in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\CompanyName\ProductName" .
I am using both installshield script and vc++ DLL for custom actions.
Why x64 installer is using WOW64 registry ?
I've created a windows service in c#, using Visual Studio 2008
I pretty much followed this:
http://www.codeproject.com/KB/dotnet/simplewindowsservice.aspx
I created a setup project, as instructed to in the article, and ran it...
it installs my service to c:\program files\product etc.... however, it does not then appear in the services list..
What am i missing?
I have visual Studio 2008.
I have noticed that I cam make WPF applications with Visual Studio. Does this mean that it can do the work that Expression Studio does?
I am going to install Visual Studio 2010. Does this do away with the necessity of Expression Studio?
Hi,
I just wanna find out if there's a way to include MySQL's Connector/Net along with my application while creating an installer using Visual Studio 2008 SP1.
Connector/Net is a fully-managed ADO.NET driver for MySQL.
Other suggestions in creating an installer for this issue is highly appreciated.
Thanks.
I'm using MS SQL 2008.
Is it possible to create a script to loop over all tables in a database generating a set of index drop scripts and create scripts separately?
What I have to do is drop all indexes on a set of databases to run a heavy data load process but then I want to re-enable all the indexes. I don't want to have to go through each table and script an index drop and then index create.
Thanks!
Hi,
I want to expose my sql server instance via the internet.
I've been programming asp.net to sql server for a long time, but for the first time i'm hosting the sql server myself instead of the clients server.
So what i want to do is move my sql server from my dev machine at home to a virtual server (yet to hire).
But of course i don't want anyone to just enter my sql server but just a few persons.
So what i was thinking was to allow only a few ip addresses to the sql server instance.
Can anyone tell me how i can expose my sql server to the internet and limit the access to the instance to only a few ip addresses?
And ehm, if you know even better ways to secure it, i'd be happy, because this is the first time for me :)

Hi,
My company receives data from an external company via Excel. We export this into SQL Server to run reports on the data. They are now changing to PDF format, is there a way to reliably port the data from the PDF and insert it into our SQL Server2008 database?
Would this require writing an app or is there an automated way of doing this?
I have a Visual Studio 2008 solution that when I build, returns the following error:
Ticks must be between DateTime.MinValue.Ticks and DateTime.MaxValue.Ticks. Parameter name: ticks
There is no reference file/line/column in the error. Becoming quite frustrating as the solution builds in the end, however I cannot debug.
In the solution, there is no reference/using to DateTime.MinValue.Ticks at all...
Often I will click on my GUI Designer in Visual Studio 2008 SP1, and it will flash randomly and freeze up.
Has this happened to anyone else? I have no idea where to begin checking on the issue. Any advice/insight/laughter is appreciated.
I have a table which has approximately sixty tables, and other tables are added constantly. Each table is a part of a schema.
A such quantity of tables makes it difficult to use Microsoft SQL Server Management Studio 2008. For example, I must scroll up in object explorer to access database related functions, or scroll down each time I need to access Views or Security features.
Is it possible to group several tables to be able to expand or collapse them in Object Explorer? Maybe a folder may be displayed for each schema, letting collapse the folders I don't need to use?
I'm having an issue with the size of the .lib when I compile libcurl. It's 1.6 MB and the sample program they have is alround 300 KB.
I downloaded the latest version (curl-7.20.0) and opened the project file from the lib directory in visual studio 2008. In the project properties I set /MT and compiled a release build. I even tried adding HTTP_ONLY to the processor which didn't seem to affect anything. What's going on?
Hi all,
When you embed a reosurce into a .NET assembly using Visual Studio, it is prefixed with the assembly name. However, assemblies can have embedded resources that are not assembly-name-prefixed. The only way I can see to do this is to disassemble the assembly using ildasm, then re-assemble it, adding the new resource -- which works, but... do I really need to finish that sentence?
(Desktop .NET Framework 3.5, VS 2008 SP1, C#, Win7 Enterprise x64)
Thanks,
All the best,
Robert
I'm trying to learn ASP.NET. I open Visual Studio (this happens in both 2008 and 2010) and creating a new ASP.NET website using .NET 3.5. When I attempt to run the website, a FireFox page opens up and tells me that it can't establish a connection to the server (localhost:####). There's no helpful error message, just "cannot connect." What could be causing this?
anybody knows how to generate all the endpoints (configuration for wcf services) / web.config for a wcf project automatically in visual studio (I use 2008)
In Visual Studio 2008 I often used the "restart" button but it is missing in Visual Studio 2010, at least in Visual Web Developer 2010 Express, I assume it's the same in the standard version as well.
Where is the restart icon in Visual Studio 2010?
Hi everyone,
How can I insert time wait value in web test in Visual Studio 2008 test edition?
I have recorded a web test that I want to use in Load test. Now I need to put some time delay between pages in web test.
Thanks a lot.
