  • PHP unable to start if "apc.shm_size" has "M" or "G" unit

    Using: Ubuntu 10.04, PHP 5.3.10, apc 3.1.3 PHP and APC installed using below repo: deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/brianmercer/php5/ubuntu lucid main deb-src http://ppa.launchpad.net/brianmercer/php5/ubuntu lucid main If I put apc.shm_size=3G or apc.shm_size=3000M in /etc/php5/fpm/conf.d/apc.ini, PHP unable to start. However, if I put only number without M or G unit, it will start and run. By default, if put only number, what unit is it means? It I put 3000 does it means 3000 MB?

  • Garbled text in Screen [closed]

    The graphical Interface in my system is garbled with some text. At the beginning I thought it was due to java and tomcat that I installed. But after removing java and tomcat, it is still the same. I am using ubuntu server and i have installed xfce desktop environment with oboard softkey I have added my dmesg output to this message. What is the problem here. I am not able to figure it out. Thank you for your help.     I've installed a trial of Adobe Flash CS4 (i didn't use this trial till the end) and wrongly entered the expired license number. I ran uninstall and tried to install a trial version again. Seems, that it keeps somewhere the wrong serial number and each time i run the Flash application it alerts me, that the license has expired. How do i properly install the trial?     I have an APC Switched Rack PDU powering a number of servers in a remote datacentre. After a recent power outage, I noticed that the outlets did not automatically default to the On status once power was restored. Having reviewed the Web UI, I cannot find this option. I'm not certain of the model number (it doesn't appear to be visible in the Web UI), but I think it's this one. Is it possible to configure these PDU units to automatically power outlets after a cold start?

    I have written a custom Puppet fact that requires the biosdevname tool to be installed. I'm not sure how to set things up correctly such that this tool will be installed before facter tries to instantiate the custom fact. Facts are loaded early on in the process, so I can't simply put a package { biosdevname: ensure => installed } in the manifest, since by the time Puppet gets this far the custom fact has already failed. I was curious if I could resolve this through Puppet's run stages. I tried: stage { pre: before => Stage[main] } class { biosdevname: stage => pre } And: class biosdevname { package { biosdevname: ensure => installed } } But this doesn't work...Puppet loads facts before entering the pre stage: info: Loading facts in physical_network_config ./physical_network_config.rb:33: command not found: biosdevname -i eth0 info: Applying configuration version '1320248045' notice: /Stage[pre]/Biosdevname/Package[biosdevname]/ensure: created Etc. Is there any way to make this work? EDIT: I should make it clear that I understand, given a suitable package declaration, that the fact will run correctly on subsequent runs. The difficulty here is that this is part of our initial configuration process. We're running Puppet out of kickstart and want the network configuration to be in place before the first reboot. It sounds like the only workable solution is to simply run Puppet twice during the initial system configuration, which will ensure that the necessary packages are in place.     I'm running tomcat on a ubuntu 10.4 VPS with 512MB of RAM (1024 burstable). I'm using it for development, so performance isn't an issue, but memory is. Tomcat is currently using about 250MB without any apps installed (I compared memory usage with tomcat stopped and running), and I also need to run lighttpd and mysql. Is there any way to get that number down? I don't need it to be able to handle a large number of requests at once.

    I love using the formatting styles for tables in Excel 2007, but in my data I'm using the same column name for multiple columns. When I format my table using the pre-defined styles, it automatically adds an incremental number to each subsequent column name which I don't want. Is there any way to stop this from happening? If I attempt to manually rename the column back to the original name, it automatically appends the incremented number.

    I understand that setting the maximum number of connections available in a connection pool should be the same as your maxThreads configured for your Tomcat server (which correlates to the number of requests that can be handled) For tomcat the default is 200, I assume there is a maximum that you can safely configure for your Tomcat server before things start getting out of control, which I assume is also governed by the resources of the machine it is running on. I am trying to get an understanding of the size of maxThreads that people are using with success, is 1000 too big?

  • DNS resolution problems; dig SERVFAIL error

    I'm setting up a couple of dedicated servers, and having problems setting up my nameservers properly. One of these is a LEMP server (LAMP with nginx in place of Apache), and the other will function solely as an email server, running exim/dovecot/ASSP antispam (no Apache). The LEMP server is CentOS 5.5, with no control panel, while the email server is CentOS 5.5 as well, with cPanel/WHM. So, I've had problems getting DNS set up properly. I have two domains, each one pointing to one of these servers. The nameservers are registered correctly with the domain registrar, and the nameserver IPs are entered correctly as well. I've spoken to tech support at the registrar and they confirm that everything is set up on their end. Not knowing much about DNS, I googled nameservers and DNS until I nearly went blind, and spent hours messing with the configuration. Eventually, I got the LEMP server's DNS working properly (no cPanel). Pleased with this triumph, I'm trying to mimic that configuration and repeat the process with the email server, and it's just not happening. The nameserver starts and stops, but the domain doesn't resolve. Things I have tried Going through standard procedures to set up DNS in WHM Clearing all DNS information, uninstalling BIND, then reinstalling all of that and again going through WHM procedures for setting up DNS Clearing all DNS information, and setting up BIND via shell (completely outside of cPanel) by using my config and zone files from the LEMP server as a template named runs just fine, but nothing is resolving. When I "dig any example.com" I get a SERVFAIL message. Nslookups return no information. Tech support is very responsive, and largely useless. So, in summary: *Nameservers, with IPs, are correctly registered with domain registrar *named is configured and running *...and must not be configured correctly, because nothing resolves. Any help would be great. I changed domains and IPs in the files to generics, but let me know if you need to know the domain in question. Thanks! UPDATE I found that I didn't have 127.0.0.1 in /etc/resolv.conf, so I added it, along with my two public IPs that I have named listening on. resolv.conf search www.example.com example.com nameserver 127.0.0.1 nameserver 7.8.9.10 ;Was in here by default, authoritative nameserver of hosting company nameserver 1.2.3.4 ;Public IP #1 nameserver 1.2.3.5 ;Public IP #2 Now when I DIG example.com from the host, it resolves. If I try to DIG from my other server (in the same datacenter), or from the internet, it times out or I get SERVFAIL.
