  • Should I get integrated graphics if I already have a dedicated GPU?

    - by Ivo Flipse
I want to upgrade my computer to the new Sandy Bridge CPU's, which features integrated graphics. However, you have to choose between two types of chipsets: H67 or P67. Now since I already own a GTX 460, so is there any added value to using the integrated graphics? Would there be a way of 'disabling' my GPU when I don't need it's additional power or would the integrated graphics simply allow me to add another screen?

    - by Alice P
I have a Canon Digital Ixus 860IS. I originally copied a short movie from my camera onto the computer via a USB card reader and then copied it back onto the camera via the same USB card reader along with some photos. The photos have copied back fine but the movie, although it's showing to have copied, can't be seen. Any reason for this? Thanks

Hello, I am using virtualBox with windows datacenter to play around with some web development. The last time I had to shut down the computer, it installed an update and shut down normally. When I rebooted, it started doing a checkdisk and processed a bunch of files (from hard poweroffs before mabey). Now when I start, I get a bluescreen of death every time it loads (Safe mode, etc) I have googled around for a boot / recovery disk, but can't seem to find one for datacenter. Cheers -Will

  • Microsoft Office 2003 document (Excel and Word) intermitently, takes 30 seconds to load

    - by Julio Nobre
I am trying to figure out why a simple .XLS EXCEL workbook is taking, randomly, 30 seconds to open. Before answering: Please, bear mind the following: Problem symptoms Hanging is intermitent and it takes exactly 30 seconds; During hanging there is no cpu or disk activity; It only happens during document load. Every runs smooth after that; Windows Explorer.exe hangs on folder, but all other folders, system and applications are still responsive; There are no consecutive hangings. I have to wait for while to reproduce this behaviour; All samples documents are located on a local drive (C:\BPI); The no document has has macros and have any addins usage; The problem does occurs on others files extensions like .PDF, for example; Office 2003 is being used for several years; The computer is running Windows XP; Computer has several network mapped drives, all addressed to main file server; Recently, main fileserver was replaced by Windows 2011 SBS Standard Edition What I have done so far I have traced machine Explorer.exe, using Process Monitor, added Duration column, and filtered by Duration 1. That's is how I found that hanging was taking exactly 30 seconds. For further information, please refer to Oliver Salzburg tutorial. Using Process Monitor, I have also figured out than five operations were taking most of sample collecting duration. Looking at sample image below, column Operation below you will notice that one single operation was taking 29 seconds; I have tried different documents (.xls and .doc), all of them smaller than 30 KB; I have, temporarily, removed all shortcuts on User Document's folder that were pointing to network drives or shares; I have runned CCleaner to fix registry issues; I made sure that there were no external links on tested workbook or word documents; I have reproduced this behaviour for hours; I have extensivelly researched for hours on the web; Process Monitor's collected and filtered data

  • How to permanently save power options in windows 7

    - by Ieyasu Sawada
How can I set the hard disk to never turn off permanently? And the sleep to never, together with the hibernate. Because the options resets to their default values when I turn off, log off or restart my computer. I am using granola on my laptop and it is set to lowest speed. When I restart it turns to full power again. Does it have something to do with the power options resetting to their default values?

Also, wampapache is installed side by side but when I stop IIS service and start wampapache from services.msc I get error and when I view it in System event log I get this error: - <Event xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/win/2004/08/events/event"> - <System> <Provider Name="Service Control Manager" Guid="{555908d1-a6d7-4695-8e1e-26931d2012f4}" EventSourceName="Service Control Manager" /> <EventID Qualifiers="49152">7024</EventID> <Version>0</Version> <Level>2</Level> <Task>0</Task> <Opcode>0</Opcode> <Keywords>0x8080000000000000</Keywords> <TimeCreated SystemTime="2011-06-12T17:43:28.223498400Z" /> <EventRecordID>346799</EventRecordID> <Correlation /> <Execution ProcessID="456" ThreadID="3936" /> <Channel>System</Channel> <Computer>MACHINENAME</Computer> <Security /> </System> - <EventData> <Data Name="param1">wampapache</Data> <Data Name="param2">%%1</Data> </EventData> </Event> I am fed up of this error and it is driving me nuts. • How does Antimalware Doctor infect computers?

    - by Pyrolistical
I didn't do anything stupid like run random .exe or visit questionable websites, but as I was just Googling I get infected by Antimalware Doctor. At that point I just shutdown my computer and reformatted, so I didn't check if I had the latest version of Flash or Firefox. Is it possible to get infected just because I didn't have my Flash newer than 10.1 and some random flash ad infected me? There doesn't seem to be any information on how Antimalware Doctor works asides from how to remove it.

  • Airport Express chokes Wi-Fi for a few seconds, several times per hour. Any idea why?

    - by user13727
    I'm using a MacBookPro connected to an AiportExpress' Wi-FI network. Every once in a while, the Wi-Fi will choke up and either drop some packets, or lag horribly for several seconds. I'm losing hair over this because every time I chat on Skype, the call hangs randomly due to this problem. Any idea what's wrong? Some more details: two networks are set up: 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz, and the issue happens on both the network uses WPA2 Personal for security the Airport is in the same room with my computer the Airport is fairly new, bought this summer, model number off the back: A1392 tried connecting to a neighbours wifi to see if it's a problem with my computer, or interference. It's not, it doesn't happen on their network. tried resetting it several times tried changing channels manually Ping results are below, so you can see what I'm talking about. EDIT: 10.0.1.1 is the Airport's IP 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1795 ttl=255 time=0.813 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1796 ttl=255 time=3.335 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1797 ttl=255 time=3.403 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1798 ttl=255 time=3.414 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1799 ttl=255 time=3.227 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1800 ttl=255 time=3.274 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1801 ttl=255 time=3.253 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1802 ttl=255 time=3.292 ms >>>> choke starts <<< 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1803 ttl=255 time=53.977 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1804 ttl=255 time=35.049 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1805 ttl=255 time=19.820 ms >>>> choke ends <<< 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1806 ttl=255 time=0.716 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1807 ttl=255 time=0.705 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1808 ttl=255 time=0.919 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1809 ttl=255 time=0.659 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1810 ttl=255 time=0.877 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1811 ttl=255 time=0.679 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1812 ttl=255 time=0.854 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1813 ttl=255 time=0.644 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1814 ttl=255 time=3.779 ms ... time passes .. 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1599 ttl=255 time=0.674 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1600 ttl=255 time=0.930 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1601 ttl=255 time=0.665 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1602 ttl=255 time=1.085 ms Request timeout for icmp_seq 1603 Request timeout for icmp_seq 1604 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1605 ttl=255 time=104.969 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1606 ttl=255 time=11.521 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1607 ttl=255 time=0.926 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1608 ttl=255 time=0.993 ms 64 bytes from 10.0.1.1: icmp_seq=1609 ttl=255 time=0.745 ms And the Signal-Noise ratio:

  • Does the Fast Video Download addon share my data?

    - by Frost Shadow
I've installed the Fast Video Download version 3.0.8 addon for Firefox to download flash videos, like from youtube. What I'm wondering is, how does the addon download it, and do other people see that i'm downloading the videos? For example, is all the software to download the video already on my computer, or does the addon contact someone else to get the video, or let them know? Can the webpage's administrator see I'm downloading the video?

  • Instant MSI deployment via GPO

    - by HannesFostie
Is it possible to instantly deploy a certain piece of software by creating a GPO in Active Directory? I realize it's possible to do this but only after rebooting the computer, and that is something we don't always want to do, especially since some of the software I want to deploy on servers. What are the options? One thing to note is that most of our users do NOT have admin rights as I am talking not only about servers but also about workstations in the classrooms.

  • Scheduled Tasks - how do I handle a user log off?

    - by Ovesh
I set a new scheduled task to start "when my computer starts". I assigned an Administrator user to run the task. This is an executable that is supposed to run indefinitely in the background. The problem is, that if the Administrator logs in and then logs off, the task stops running. Is there a solution for this? UPDATE: this was caused because the task running was in java. See my own solution.
