  • How to use Linq to group DateTime by month and days calculation

    - by Daoming Yang
Hi all, I have two questions: First one: I have a order list and want to group them by the created month for the reports. Each order's created datetime will be like "2010-03-13 11:17:16.000" How can I make them only group by date like "2010-03"? Note: the DateCreated is the DateTime tpye The following code is not correct. var items = orderList.GroupBy(t => t.DateCreated.Month) .Select(g => new Order() { DateCreated = g.Key }) .OrderByDescending(x => x.OrderID).ToList(); Second one: Output the full months between two dates in C# If an user choose 2010-04-08 and 2010-06-04, I want to output the 2010-04-01 and 2010-06-30. I can always get the first day and last day of the months, but I want to find out some other options Many thanks. Many thanks.

  • MySQLNonTransientConnectionException in jdbc program at run time

    - by Sunil Kumar Sahoo
Hi I have created jdbc mysql connection. my program works fine for simple execution of query. But if i run the same program for more than 10 hour and execute query then i receives the following mysql exception. I have not used close() method anywhere. i created database connection and opened it forever and always execute query. there is no where that i explicitly mentioned timeout for connection. i am unable to identify the problem com.mysql.jdbc.exceptions.jdbc4.MySQLNonTransientConnectionException: Connection.close() has already been called. • Scalability comparison between different DBMSs

    - by Björn Lindfors
By what factor does the performance (read queries/sec) increase when a machine is added to a cluster of machines running either: a Bigtable-like database MySQL? Google's research paper on Bigtable suggests that "near-linear" scaling is achieved can be achieved with Bigtable. This page here featuring MySQL's marketing jargon suggests that MySQL is capable of scaling linearly. Where is the truth?

  • Getting content from PHP: Trouble with POST and query.

    - by vgm64
Apologies for my longest question on SO ever. I'm trying to interface with a php frontend for a mysql database in ROOT (a CERN framework in C++ for high energy physics analysis). To start off with, I tried to get this php interface to play nice with wget and curl first because I'm more familiar with them. The following command works: wget --post-data "hostname=localhost:3306&un=joeuser&pw=psswd&myquery=show_spazio_databases;" http://some.host.edu/log/log_query_matlab.php The results are: database1 database2 That's good. If I leave out the --post-data then I get the result: Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'admin'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /log/log_query_matlab.php on line 6 i'm dead! Access denied for user 'admin'@'localhost' (using password: NO) Warning: mysql_query() [function.mysql-query]: Access denied for user 'admin'@'localhost' (using password: NO) in /log/log_query_matlab.php on line 29 Warning: mysql_query() [function.mysql-query]: A link to the server could not be established in /log/log_query_matlab.php on line 29 I have access to the php script (read only), but the error itself isn't too important. What matters it that using ROOT, I use a function called as socket.SendRaw(message, message.Length()) (socket is a TSocket) and this gives me the same "error" as wget without the post data switch if my "message" is "POST http://some.host.edu/log/log_query_matlab.php?hostname=localhost:3306&un=joeuser&pw=psswd&myquery=show_spazio_databases" This may be in vain, but does someone knows a way I should format the "message" that includes something that is equivalent to the --post-data switch. Or, is there a standard way to format POST requests in a single line (I've seen multi-line stuff. Is that right?) Sorry I'm clueless! PS. The mysql query is show databases but the space has been replaced with _spazio_, Italian for space. The author of the db and php interface requires it (and various replacements for symbols), but has anyone seen this before? Trying to troubleshoot that was terrible!

  • Getting really weird long Contact Group names

    - by Pentium10
When looking at the Contact Groups on Google Contacts or in the People application of my HTC Legend phone, I get the groups names ok eg: Friends, Family, VIP, Favorite etc... But in my application I get really wrong names such as "Family" became "System Group: Family" "Friends" became "System Group: Friends" "Favorite" became "Favorite_5656100000000_3245664334564" I use the below code to read these values: public Cursor getFromSystem() { // Get the base URI for the People table in the Contacts content // provider. Uri contacts = ContactsContract.Groups.CONTENT_URI; // Make the query. ContentResolver cr = ctx.getContentResolver(); // Form an array specifying which columns to return. String[] projection = new String[] { ContactsContract.Groups._ID, ContactsContract.Groups.TITLE, ContactsContract.Groups.NOTES }; Cursor managedCursor = cr.query(contacts, projection, ContactsContract.Groups.DELETED + "=0", null, ContactsContract.Groups.TITLE + " COLLATE LOCALIZED ASC"); return managedCursor; } What I am missing?

  • SQL Server Group Concat with Different characters

    - by Molloch
I have looked through a number of solutions to emulating "Group concat" functionality in SQL Server. I wanted to make a more human readable solution though and I can't work out how to do it. I have a view: ParentID | ChildName Which contains the records, for example: 1 | Max 1 | Jessie 2 | Steven 2 | Lucy 2 | Jake 3 | Mark I want to "Group Concat" these to get: 1 | Max and Jessie 2 | Steven, Lucy and Jake 3 | Mark So If there is only 1 child, just return name, if there are more than one, concat the last 2 with an ' and ' and all others with a ', '. I am a bit stuck on how to do this without resorting to CLR, which I don't want to do. I am happy with a function - but speed is an issue and how do I determine the child number so I can choose between ' and ', ', ' or ''?

  • MongoDB - proper use of collections?

    - by zmg
In Mongo my understanding is that you can have databases and collections. I'm working on a social-type app that will have blogs and comments (among other things) and had previously be using MySQL and pretty heavy partitioning in an attempt to limit possible concurrency issues. With MySQL I've stuffed all my user data into a _user database with several tables to further partition the data (blogs, pages, etc). My immediate reaction with Mongo would be to create a 'users' database with one collection per user. In this way user 'zach' blog entries would go into the 'zach' collection with associated comments and such becoming sub-objects in the same collection. Basically like dynamically creating one table per user in MySQL, but apparently without the complexity and limitations that might impose. Of course since I haven't really used Mongo before I'm having trouble gauging the (ahem..) quality of this idea and the potential problems it might cause down the road. I'd like user data to be treated a lot like a users directory in a *nix environment where user created/non-shared (mostly) gets put into one place (currently with MySQL that would be the appname_users as mentioned above). Most of the users data will be specific to the users page(s). Some of the user data which is queried across all site users (searchable user profiles) is currently kept in a separate database/table and I expect things like this could be put into a appname_system database and be broken up into collections and/or application specific databases (appname_profiles). Anyway, since the available documentation on this is currently a little thin and my experience is extremely limited I thought I might find a little guidance from someone with a better working understanding of the system. On the plus side I'd really already been attempting to treat MySQL as a schema-less document-store and doing this with Mongo seems much more intuitive/sane/rational so I'm really looking forward to getting started. Thanks, Zach

  • MySQLdb not INSERTING, _mysql does fine.

    - by Mad_Casual
Okay, I log onto the MySQL command-line client as root. I then open or otherwise run a python app using the MySQLdb module as root. When I check the results using python (IDLE), everything looks fine. When I use the MySQL command-line client, no INSERT has occurred. If I change things around to _mysql instead of MySQLdb, everything works fine. I'd appreciate any clarification(s). "Works" until IDLE/Virtual machine is reset: <pre><code>import MySQLdb db = MySQLdb.connect(user='root', passwd='*******',db='test') cursor = db.cursor() cursor.execute("""INSERT INTO test VALUES ('somevalue');""",)</code></end> Works: <pre><code>import _mysql db = _mysql.connect(user='root', passwd='*******',db='test') db.query("INSERT INTO test VALUES ('somevalue');")</code></end> System info: Intel x86 WinXP Python 2.5 MySQL 5.1.41 MySQL-Python 1.2.2

  • group inlines in django admin

    - by pablo
Hi I have a two models, Model1 and Model2. Model2 has a FK to Model1 and FK to iteself. In the admin I show Model2 as inlines in Model1 change_form. I want to modify the way the inlines are shown in the admin. I need to group all the instances that have the same parent_model2 and display them as a readonly field with a string of 'childs' in the parent Model2 instance. I know how to use itertools.groupby (or the django version) but don't know how to do it in the admin. What should I override to be able to iterate over all the Model2 instances, group them by parent, add children to the parent and remove children from the inlines? class Model1(models.Model): name = models.CharField() class Model2(models.Model): name = models.CharField() fk_model1 = models.ForeignKey('self', blank=True, null=True) parent_model2 = models.ForeignKey('self', blank=True, null=True) Thanks

  • Group by/count in LINQ against SQL Compact 3.5 SP2

    - by bash74
Hello, I am using LINQ-To-Entities in C# and run queries against a SQL Compact Server 3.5 SP2. What I try to achieve is a simple group by with an additional where clause which includes a Count(). var baseIdent="expression"; var found=from o in ObservedElements where o.ObservedRoots.BaseIdent==baseIdent group o by o.ID into grouped where grouped.Count()==1 select new {key=grouped.Key, val=grouped}; foreach(var res in found){ //do something here } This query throws the famous exception "A parameter is not allowed in this location. Ensure that the '@' sign and all other parameters are in a valid location in the SQL statement." When I either omit the where clause OR directly enter the expression "expression" in the query (where o.ObservedRoots.BaseIdent=="expression") everything just works fine. Does anybody know how to solve this? Workaround would also be fine? Thanks in advance, Sebastian

  • Zend_Form MultiCheckbox not checking boxes

    - by azz0r
    $groups = Model_UserGroup::load_links($object->id); foreach ($groups as $item) { $object->group[$item->group_id] = $item->enabled; } $array_object = (array) $object;//turn the object to an array so zend_form can use it $form->populate($array_object); enabled = 1 or 0 In the form class: $group = new Zend_Form_Element_MultiCheckbox('group'); $groups = Model_Group::load_all(); $new_item = array(); foreach ($groups as $item) { $group->addMultiOption($item->id, $item->name); } However the top group is the only one ever checked. Anyone spot anything glaringly wrong? I know its difficult to get a grasp of my layout/setup for this. Here is the array_object: Array ( [table_name] => User [id] => 112 [updated] => 1269428783 [created] => 1153237813 [group] => Array ( [1] => 1 [3] => 1 ) ) Here is the html zend_form is creating: <dd id="group-element"> <label for="group-1"><input name="group[]" id="group-1" value="1" checked="checked" type="checkbox">Administrator Access</label><br> <label for="group-2"><input name="group[]" id="group-2" value="2" type="checkbox">Content Admin</label><br> <label for="group-3"><input name="group[]" id="group-3" value="3" type="checkbox">Administrator</label><br> <label for="group-4"><input name="group[]" id="group-4" value="4" type="checkbox">Studio</label> </dd> edit: just done a small test and made the $groups (in the first set of code tags) empty and it still ticks the first box. hm Fixed this by doing: // $selected_groups = Model_UserGroup::load_links($object->id); $group_ticks = array(); foreach ($selected_groups as $item) { if ($item->enabled == 1) { $group_ticks[] = $item->group_id;//$form->group->setValue($item->group_id); } } $form->group->setValue($group_ticks); //

  • General JDBC Setup

    - by AeroDroid
So I have a MySQL database set up on a Debian server and it works fine from a phpMyAdmin client. I'm currently working on a project to write a Java server that would be able to use the MySQL database that is already on this server through a JDBC connection. I've looked at many tutorials and documentations but all of them seem to just explain how to do client-side code, but I have yet to figure out how to even successfully open a JDBC connection to the server. As far as I am concerned, I believe that program has the drivers properly set up because it's not crashing anymore (I simply direct the Java Build Path of my program to the Connector/J provided by MySQL). As far as my program goes, this is what it looks like... import java.sql.*; public class JDBCTest { public static void main(String[] args) { System.out.println("Started!"); try { DriverManager.registerDriver(new com.mysql.jdbc.Driver()); System.out.println("Driver registered. Connecting..."); Connection conn = DriverManager.getConnection("jdbc:mysql://localhost/", "root", "password"); System.out.println("Connected!"); conn.close(); } catch (SQLException e) { System.out.println("Error!"); e.printStackTrace(); } } } This is what's printed... Started! Driver registered. Connecting... It's as if the DriverManager.getConnection(String) just freezes there. I'm sure this is a problem with the server because when I intentionally misspell localhost, or an IP address, the program crashes within 20 seconds. This just hangs there forever. Sorry about this wall of text, but my final question is if anyone has any information what I should do or install on the server to get this to work? Thank you so much!

  • What database works well with 200+GB of data?

    - by taw
I've been using mysql (with innodb; on Amazon rds) because it's sort of universal default, but it's been ridiculously under-performing, and tweaking it only delays the inevitable. The data is mostly relatively short (<1kB of bytes each) blobs information about 100Ms of urls. There is (or should be, mysql cannot seem to handle it) very high amount of insert / update / retrieve but few complex queries - not that complex queries wouldn't be useful, but because mysql is so slow that it's far faster to get the data out, process it locally, and cache the results somewhere. I can keep tweaking mysql and throwing more hardware at it, but it seems increasingly futile. So what are the options? SQL/relational model/etc. optional - anything will do as long as it's fast, networked, and language-independent.

  • SQL Group By equivalent

    - by MikeB
Pretend I have a cupcake_rating table: id | cupcake | delicious_rating -------------------------------------------- 1 | Strawberry | Super Delicious 2 | Strawberry | Mouth Heaven 3 | Blueberry | Godly 4 | Blueberry | Super Delicious I want to find all the cupcakes that have a 'Super Delicious' AND 'Mouth Heaven' rating. I feel like this is easily achievable using a group by clause and maybe a having. I was thinking: select distinct(cupcake) from cupcake_rating group by cupcake having delicious_rating in ('Super Delicious', 'Mouth Heaven') I know I can't have two separate AND statements. I was able to achieve my goal using: select distinct(cupcake) from cupcake_rating where cupcake in ( select cupcake from cupcake_rating where delicious_rating = 'Super Delicious' ) and cupcake in ( select cupcake from cupcake_rating where delicious_rating = 'Mouth Heaven' ) This will not be satisfactory because once I add a third type of rating I am looking for, the query will take hours (there are a lot of cupcake ratings).

  • Aggregate Functions and Group By Problems

    - by David Stein
If we start with the following simple SQL statement which works. SELECT sor.FPARTNO, sum(sor.FUNETPRICE) FROM sorels sor GROUP BY sor.FPARTNO FPartNo is the part number and the Funetprice is obviously the net price. The user also wants the description and this causes a problem. If I follow up with this: SELECT sor.FPARTNO, sor.fdesc, sum(sor.FUNETPRICE) FROM sorels sor GROUP BY sor.FPARTNO, sor.fdesc If there are multiple variations of the description for that part number, typically very small variations in the text, then I don't actually aggregate on the part number. Make sense? I'm sure this must be simple. How can I return the first fdesc that corresponds to the part number? Any of the description variations would suffice as they are almost entirely identical. Edit: The description is a text field.

  • How do you store accented characters coming from a web service into a database?

    - by Thierry Lam
    I have the following word that I fetch via a web service: André From Python, the value looks like: "Andr\u00c3\u00a9". The input is then decoded using json.loads: >>> import json >>> json.loads('{"name":"Andr\\u00c3\\u00a9"}') >>> {u'name': u'Andr\xc3\xa9'} When I store the above in a utf8 MySQL database, the data is stored like the following using Django: SomeObject.objects.create(name=u'Andr\xc3\xa9') Querying the name column from a mysql shell or displaying it in a web page gives: André The web page displays in utf8: <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> My database is configured in utf8: mysql> SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'collation%'; +----------------------+-----------------+ | Variable_name | Value | +----------------------+-----------------+ | collation_connection | utf8_general_ci | | collation_database | utf8_unicode_ci | | collation_server | utf8_unicode_ci | +----------------------+-----------------+ 3 rows in set (0.00 sec) mysql> SHOW VARIABLES LIKE 'character_set%'; +--------------------------+----------------------------+ | Variable_name | Value | +--------------------------+----------------------------+ | character_set_client | utf8 | | character_set_connection | utf8 | | character_set_database | utf8 | | character_set_filesystem | binary | | character_set_results | utf8 | | character_set_server | utf8 | | character_set_system | utf8 | | character_sets_dir | /usr/share/mysql/charsets/ | +--------------------------+----------------------------+ 8 rows in set (0.00 sec) How can I retrieve the word André from a web service, store it properly in a database with no data loss and display it on a web page in its original form?

  • xcodeproj merge fails when adding new group

Developer2 on an other computer do the same with an other group name, commit and pull(with merge). The xcodeproj of Developer 2 become unreadable with Xcode. • Which are the RDBMS that minimize the server roundtrips? Which RDBMS are better (in this area) than

    - by user193655
When the latency is high ("when pinging the server takes time") the server roundtrips make the difference. Now I don't want to focus on the roundtrips created in programming, but the roundtrips that occur "under the hood" in the DB engine, so the roundtrips that are 100% dependant on how the RDBMS is written itself. I have been told that FireBird has more roundtrips than MySQL. But this is the only information I know. I am currently supporting MS SQL but I'd like to change RDBMS (because I use Express Editions and in my scenario they are quite limiting from the performance point of view), so to make a wise choice I would like to include also this point into "my RDBMS comparison feature matrix" to understand which is the best RDBMS to choose as an alternative to MS SQL. So the bold sentence above would make me prefer MySQL to Firebird (for the roundtrips concept, not in general), but can anyone add informations? And MS SQL where is it located? Is someone able to "rank" the roundtrip performance of the main RDBMS, or at least: MS SQL, MySql, Postegresql, Firebird (I am not interested in Oracle since it is not free, and if I have to change I would change to a free RDBMS). Anyway MySql (as mentioned several times on stackoverflow) has a not clear future and a not 100% free license. So my final choice will probably dall on PostgreSQL or Firebird. Additional info: somehow you can answer my question by making a simple list like: MSSQL:3; MySQL:1; Firebird:2; Postgresql:2 (where 1 is good, 2 average, 3 bad). Of course if you can post some links where the roundtrips per RDBMSs are compared it would be great

  • LINQ to sql return group by results from method

I think it is because it's an anonymous type but haven't got my head around it yet. Do I need to convert it to a list or something? The results would just be used for filling a combo box.

  • Php/ODBC encoding problem

    - by JohnM2
I use ODBC to connect to SQL Server from PHP. In PHP I read some string (nvarchar column) data from SQL Server and then want to insert it to mysql database. When I try to insert such value to mysql database table I get this mysql error: Incorrect string value: '\xB3\xB9ow...' for column 'name' at row 1 For string with all ASCII characters everything is fine, the problem occurs when non-ASCII characters (from some European languages) exist. So, in more general terms: there is a Unicode string in MS SQL Server database, which is retrieved by PHP trough ODBC. Then it is put in sql insert query (as value for utf-8 varchar column) which is executed for mysql database. Can someone explain to me what is happening in this situation in terms of encoding? At which step what character encoding convertions may take place? I use: PHP 5.2.5, MySQL5.0.45-community-nt, MS Sql Server 2005.

I have unix timestamps from time zone X which is not known, the current timestamp(now()) in TZ X is known 1275143019, how to approach a javascript function so that it can generate the datetime in the users current TZ in the format 2010-05-29 15:32:35 ? UPDATE I'm not a unix timestamp expert,if unix timestamp is always the same in different TZ, then I have to change the question a little,so that the current datetime in TZ X is known(like 2010-05-29 22:32:28),and the other datetime is also in this format, how to convert them to the user's TZ based on the difference between now() ?
