  • Linux does not connect to wireless network under Hyper-V with Windows 8

    I have a VM I am trying to run under Hyper-V on Windows 8 Pro. I am using an Asus PDE-N15 adapter on the host machine. When I run Windows 8 in the VM it connects to the network and everything works. When I use Linux (Ubuntu 13.04 32-bit, Ubuntu 13.04 64-bit, Fedora, CentOS) it will not connect to the network. When I run ifconfig I see the adapter show up as eth0 with the correct HWaddr. I see that TX bytes 0, and RX bytes == 0. Could anyone help me figure out how to get this to work?

  • can't see second hard drive

    I had XP Pro installed, and then I installed 12.04 dual boot. System has 2 hard drives, c: (as in windows) is primarily OS stuff, and then E: is data/personal documents. XP can still see both drives as normal after the ubuntu install, but ubuntu can only see the windows C: drive. How can I access the second drive? I can't see any trace of it, using the little *nix know-how I have, which isn't much...any help is great! Thanks!

(With Ubuntu of course as my OS) Installed Ubuntu via Flash Drive Everything is connected. Purchased a Graphic card/GPU GPU info;(XFX Double D R9 270 925MHz Boost 2GB DDR5 DP HDMI 2XDVI Graphic card) Now my problem is when i put the CD to install the GPU Drivers it would not recognize the HDD So why is the hard drive not being recognized HDD info;(ADATA USA Premier pro SP600 32GB SATA) I am able to enter the BIOS menu (If that helps) Any help would be much appreciated & Thanks in advanced

    I bought a brand new computer yesterday (Toshiba Satellite Pro L770-10T : Intel Core i5 2410M, 2,3 GHz, 4096 Mo RAM, nVidia GeForce GT 525M) that simply won't boot any livecd I tried. I am using debian/ubuntu for a long time but this is the first time I can't boot a livecd Here is what I tried without success: Ubuntu 11.04 i386 and x64 both desktop and alternate Debian stable livecd old working ubuntu livecds including 8.x 9.x 10.x On ubuntu-10.04.2-desktop-i386.iso I had a kernel panic On 11.04 packages were corrupted although md5 and sha1 were correct I must add that those were burned on different cds CD-R or CD-RW.     I have downloaded an ISO file of UBANTU 12.10 x86 from the official website (www.ubantu.com). When I tried to install it everything was going good till I got the error message something like "the media you are using is probably currupt or you have an hard disk error . It did't told me what to do. I am already running WINDOW 7 ultimate in my pc and it is running fine i have tested my hard disk for error and no errors was found by "system mechanic pro 11" . after that i tried to install my WINDOW 7 on the same partition and it was successful . Even now I am unable to install UBANTU. It is my first experience with UBANTU so I don't know what to do. please guide me . my email is [email protected]

    I noticed that in Jeff's slides "Challenges in Building Large-Scale Information Retrieval Systems", which can also be downloaded here: http://research.google.com/people/jeff/WSDM09-keynote.pdf, a method of integers compression called "group varint encoding" was mentioned. It was said much faster than 7 bits per byte integer encoding (2X more). I am very interested in this and looking for an implementation of this, or any more details that could help me implement this by myself. I am not a pro and new to this, and any help is welcome!
