  • How to find a random point in a quadrangle?

    - by Gregg Cleland
Hi! I have to be able to set a random location for a waypoint for a flight sim. The maths challenge is straightforward: "To find a single random location within a quadrangle, where there's an equal chance of the point being at any location." Visually like this: http://screencast.com/t/NTUxMzJhZGQ An example ABCD quadrangle is: A:[21417.78 37105.97] B:[38197.32 24009.74] C:[1364.19 2455.54] D:[1227.77 37378.81] Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. :-)

  • Nested if statements or not

    - by Zaps
Hi, I hope this hasn't been asked before. I have a nullable boolean called boolIsAllowed and a if condition like so: if(boolIsAllowed.HasValue && boolIsAllowed.Value) { //do something } My question is this good code or would I be better separating it into a nested if statement? Will the second condition get checked if boolIsAllowed.HasValue is equal to false and then throw an exception? I hope this question is too stupid. Thanks in advance.

  • How to read from database and write into text file with C#?

    - by user147685
How to read from database and write into text file? I want to write/copy (not sure what to call) the record inside my database into a text file. One row record in database is equal to one line in the text file. I'm having no problem in database. For creating text file, it mentions FileStream and StreamWriter. Which one should I use?

  • Simple C++ program on multidimensional arrays - Getting C2143 error among others. Not sure why?

    - by noobzilla
    Here is my simple multidimensional array program. The first error occurs where I declare the function addmatrices and then a second one where it is implemented. I am also getting an undefined variable error for bsize. What am I doing incorrectly? #include <iostream> #include <fstream> #include <string> #include <iomanip> using namespace std; //Function declarations void constmultiply (double matrixA[][4], int asize, double matrixC[][4], int bsize, double multiplier); //Pre: The address of the output file, the matrix to be multiplied by the constant, the matrix in which // the resultant values will be stored and the multiplier are passed in. //Post: The matrix is multiplied by the multiplier and the results are displayed on screen and written to the // output file. int addmatrices (double matrixA[][4], int asize, double matrixB[]4], int bsize, double matrixC[][4], int csize); //Pre: The addresses of three matrices are passed in //Post: The values in each of the two matrices are added together and put into a third matrix //Error Codes int INPUT_FILE_FAIL = 1; int UNEQUAL_MATRIX_SIZE = 2; //Constants const double multiplier = 2.5; const int rsize = 4; const int csize = 4; //Main Driver int main() { //Declare the two matrices double matrix1 [rsize][csize]; double matrix2 [rsize][csize]; double matrix3 [rsize][csize]; //Variables double temp; string filename; //Declare filestream object ifstream infile; //Ask the user for the name of the input file cout << "Please enter the name of the input file: "; cin >> filename; //Open the filestream object infile.open(filename.c_str()); //Verify that the input file opened correctly if (infile.fail()) { cout << "Input file failed to open" <<endl; exit(INPUT_FILE_FAIL); } //Begin reading in data from the first matrix for (int i = 0; i <= 3; i++)//i = row { for (int j = 0; j <= 3; j++)// j = column { infile >> temp; matrix1[i][j] = temp; } } //Begin reading in data from the second matrix for (int k = 0; k <= 3; k++)// k = row { for (int l = 0; l <= 3; l++)// l = column { infile >> temp; matrix2[k][l] = temp; } } //Notify user cout << "Input file open, reading matrices...Done!" << endl << "Read in 2 matrices..."<< endl; //Output the values read in for Matrix 1 for (int i = 0; i <= 3; i++) { for (int j = 0; j <= 3; j ++) { cout << setprecision(1) << matrix1[i][j] << setw(8); } cout << "\n"; } cout << setw(40)<< setfill('-') << "-" << endl ; //Output the values read in for Matrix 2 for (int i = 0; i <= 3; i++) { for (int j = 0; j <= 3; j ++) { cout << setfill(' ') << setprecision(2) << matrix2[i][j] << setw(8); } cout << "\n"; } cout << setw(40)<< setfill('-') << "-" << endl ; //Multiply matrix 1 by the multiplier value constmultiply (matrix1, rsize, matrix3, rsize, multiplier); //Output matrix 3 values to screen for (int i = 0; i <= 3; i++) { for (int j = 0; j <= 3; j ++) { cout << setfill(' ') << setprecision(2) << matrix3[i][j] << setw(8); } cout << "\n"; } cout << setw(40)<< setfill('-') << "-" << endl ; // //Add matrix1 and matrix2 // addmatrices (matrix1, 4, matrix2, 4, matrix3, 4); // //Finished adding.   • Defining your own Ord for a data type

    - by mvid
I am attempting to make some data structures to solve a graph puzzle. I am trying to define an edge's comparison criteria, but I am not sure how. So far: data Edge = Edge (Set String) Bool How do I tell let the compiler know that I want edges to be declared equal if they have identical sets of strings, and not have equality have anything to do with the boolean value?

  • Simple prolog program. Getting error: >/2: Arguments are not sufficiently instantiated

    - by user1279812
I made a prolog program posAt(List1,P,List2) that tests whether the element at position P of List1 and List2 are equal: posAt([X|Z],1,[Y|W]) :- X=Y. posAt([Z|X],K,[W|Y]) :- K1, Kr is K - 1, posAt(X,Kr,Y). When testing: ?- posAt([1,2,3],X,[a,2,b]). I expected an output of X=2 but instead I got the following error: ERROR: /2: Arguments are not sufficiently instantiated Why am I getting this error?

  • Django Include Aggregate Sums of Zero

    - by tomas
I'm working on a Django timesheet application and am having trouble figuring out how to include aggregate sums that equal zero. If I do something like: entries = TimeEntry.objects.all().values("user__username").annotate(Sum("hours")) I get all users that have time entries and their sums. [{'username': u'bob' 'hours__sum':49}, {'username': u'jane' 'hours__sum':10}] When I filter that by a given day: filtered_entries = entries.filter(date="2010-05-17") Anyone who didn't enter time for that day is excluded. Is there a way to include those users who's sums are 0? Thanks

  • emacs split into 3 even windows

    - by Michael
Hi all, Quick question: How do I specify the number of characters in a split window? C-x-3 Splits my window into two windows evenly, but a subsequent split will split one of the windows in half. I'd like 3 equal sized windows. The documentation says that I should be able to specify the number of characters for the left buffer as a parameter, but I cant seem to get that to work. Any ideas for syntax? Thanks.

  • Is a line formed by two points greater than 90 degrees off of the horzontal.

    - by Scott Chamberlain
I am trying to find out if a line defined by two points is greater than or equal to 90 degrees compared to the horizontal. Here is the code I used bool moreThan90 = false; double angle = Math.Atan((double)(EndingLocation.Y - Location.Y) / (double)(EndingLocation.X - Location.X)); if (angle >= Math.PI / 2.0 || angle <= -Math.PI / 2.0) moreThan90 = true; Did I do this correctly or is there a better built in function in .Net that will find this?

  • NHibernate and objects with value-semantics

    - by Groo
Problem: If I pass a class with value semantics (Equals method overridden) to NHibernate, NHibernate tries to save it to db even though it just saved an entity equal by value (but not by reference) to the database. What am I doing wrong? Here is a simplified example model for my problem: Let's say I have a Person entity and a City entity. One thread (producer) is creating new Person objects which belong to a specific existing City, and another thread (consumer) is saving them to a repository (using NHibernate as DAL). Since there is lot of objects being flushed at a time, I am using Guid.Comb id's to ensure that each insert is made using a single SQL command. City is an object with value-type semantics (equal by name only -- for this example purposes only): public class City : IEquatable<City> { public virtual Guid Id { get; private set; } public virtual string Name { get; set; } public virtual bool Equals(City other) { if (other == null) return false; return this.Name == other.Name; } public override bool Equals(object obj) { return Equals(obj as City); } public override int GetHashCode() { return this.Name.GetHashCode(); } } Fluent NH mapping is something like: public class PersonMap : ClassMap<Person> { public PersonMap() { Id(x => x.Id) .GeneratedBy.GuidComb(); References(x => x.City) .Cascade.SaveUpdate(); } } public class CityMap : ClassMap<City> { public CityMap() { Id(x => x.Id) .GeneratedBy.GuidComb(); Map(x => x.Name); } } Right now (with my current NHibernate mapping config), my consumer thread maintains a dictionary of cities and replaces their references in incoming person objects (otherwise NHibernate will see a new, non-cached City object and try to save it as well), and I need to do it for every produced Person object. Since I have implemented City class to behave like a value type, I hoped that NHibernate would compare Cities by value and not try to save them each time -- i.e. I would only need to do a lookup once per session and not care about them anymore. Is this possible, and if yes, what am I doing wrong here?

  • Ping remote server and wait to get data

    - by infinity
Hi I'm building my first application for android and I've reached a point where I can't find a solution even have no idea what to search for in Google. So the problem: I am pinging a remote server with GET request through the application passing some parameters like file_id. Then the server gives back confirmation if the file exists or error otherwise, both in plain text. The error string is $$$ERROR$$$. Actually the confirmation is JSON string that holds the path to the file. If the file doesn't exists on the server it generated the error message and start downloading the file and processing it which normally takes 10-30 seconds. What would be the best way to check if the file is ready for download? I have DownloadFile class that extends AsyncTask but before I reach the point to download the file I need the URL which is dependant on the previous request which is in the main class in the UI thread. Here is some code: public class MainActivity extends Activity { private String getInfo() { // Create a new HttpClient and Post Header HttpClient httpClient = new DefaultHttpClient(); HttpGet httpPost = new HttpGet(infoUrl); StringBuilder sb = null; String data; JSONObject jObject = null; try { HttpResponse response = httpClient.execute(httpPost); // This might be equal "$$$ERROR$$$" if no file exists sb = inputStreamToString(response.getEntity().getContent()); } catch(ClientProtocolException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block Log.v("Error: pushItem ClientProtocolException: ", e.toString()); } catch (IOException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block Log.v("Error: pushItem IOException: ", e.toString()); } // Clean the data to be complaint JSON format data = sb.toString().replace("info = ", ""); try { jObject = new JSONObject(data); data = jObject.getString("h"); fileTitle = jObject.getString("title"); } catch (JSONException e) { // TODO Auto-generated catch block e.printStackTrace(); } downloadUrl = String.format(downloadUrl, fileId, data); return downloadUrl; } } So my idea was to get the content and if equal to $$$ERROR$$$ go into loop until JSON data is passed but I guess there is better solution. Note: I don't have control over the server output so have to deal with what I have.

  • c# calculation help

    - by Jonas B
Hi, I'm pretty useless when it comes to math and I have a problem I need help with. This has nothing to do with schoolwork, it's in fact about alcatel and the ticketextractor. I have two values that needs to be calculated in a c# application according to a formula specified in their documentation: "The global callid is equal to: callid1 multiplied by 2 power 32 plus callid2" As I said I'm not big with maths so that statement says nothing to me. If anyone know how to calculate it i'd appreciate it! Thanks
