    i am working on a small project that i need the ability to let users upload a video to my website or use a webcam to record a video and then upload it. i have seen this done on several sites (youtube,facebook etc) so i know that there is a java or flash applet that supports this. however i have not been able to find one. can anyone recommend a good flash or java based video uploader with these features?

  • PHP vs JSP Which is should I use/learn for my project?

However, I don't know anything about either technology and my only experience with web development previously was with python and django. I was wondering what people might recommend to learn, what is most useful to learn for the job market, and what would be best for this project. If it matters, the programming languages I know are, C, C++, Java, and Python. My goal of the project is to learn technologies that will make me a more marketable person. Thanks

  • If I already know Perl Is Python worth learning?

    I'm all for learning and continual improving one’s self, and I believe you should have as many tools as possible in your toolbox. However, I was wondering if it was worth it learning Python, since I already know a couple of dynamic interpreted languages, including Perl. My background is mostly C/C++/Java/C#, but I’ve programmed in Perl quite a bit over the years. I recently read Dive Into Python, as well as the tutorial for the Django framework for a new project where Python was suggested. However, I kept finding myself thinking that I can still accomplish much of the same stuff with Perl, so I’m not sure when I would choose a Python approach over one that I’m already familiar with. This is by no means meant to start any kind of language war, and I do recognize that language choice is quite subjective. I just wondering when one would make such a choice.

  • What is the recommended approach to add static subdomains to a website?

    I would like to create a few static subdomains like: mycategory.mydomain.com in a rather small website and would like it to point to the folder: mydomain.com/mycategory without showing such redirection in browser address bar. What is an easiest way to achieve it? I can do it in either IIS settings, asp.net, C# code, etc I guess there are better ways then creating a few separate Sites in IIS - one for each subdomain.

  • Javascript "inlet" or "offset" function for drop-list options

    I have seen on several sites that drop list values can have offsets... For example this drop-list: Fruits Apple Banana Orange Colors Red White Black The above are all options, but some have "inlets" or "offsets" or whatever you want to call it. How is this done with js?   • Drupal using Solr externally on another machine?

    I'd like to use the Drupal solr search module with the Apache Solr Search hosted on an external machine. I know that Acquia offer this as a service. But it's not an affordable option for me. I'd like to install Solr on an inexpensive VPS and have all my various Drupal sites which are on different hosts accessing the search functions. Am I barking up the wrong tree?

  • Implementing "View as HTML" for Word and PDF documents on an intranet

    I am looking for a way to implement "View as HTML" (as seen in e.g. GMail) for Microsoft Office and Adobe PDF documents stored in an intranet. Can anyone recommend approaches for this? The intranet consists of multiple .NET sites, so I would prefer a .NET library (one that doesn't launch MS Word on the server) for this capability, but any kind of arrangement is welcome.

  • Is HTTP 404 appropriate for out of range page number on paged content?

    I have a site that is mainly showing a paged list of content (articles, data element's, etc.), and I'm wondering about returning HTTP 404 when user navigates outside of the available list range. Some sites just display "No results/Page number out of range" and some return additionally return HTTP 404 status. What's your take on that, and why? UPDATE It's not and api response. This question is in regard to user viewed pages that among other things show a list/table in the main area.

    Hi this is probably something really simple but I cant see what! Any images I have in a masterpage aint showing in child pages, all i get is the box with the red cross in it.   • Is there a free version control server provider for non-public projects?

    I'd like to have a version control server (preferably SVN) accessible on the internet without having to host my own (linux) server. Setting up a home server ala DynDNS is not really an option. Can you have non-public (maybe single-user) projects on one of the OSS project hosting sites? Or are there alternatives? I had a look at Google Code. But that looked very public to me. Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)

    Hi, We've got our navigation setup so that subsites show in the global navigation but we have a requirement to also put custom links to external sites which is straight forward. The tricky part is that some of the custom links need security trimming which you don't get when you add your own links to the navigation.   • Date format broken in .net 4.0 for uk format

    I'm in the process of converting a couple of sites up to .net 4.0 and I seem to have a problem with regionalisaion of dates. This code: Date.Today.AddDays((Date.Today.DayOfWeek - 1) * -1).ToString() In .net 3.5 produces: '19/04/2010 00:00:00' but as soon as I change the app pool to 4.0 it produces: '4/19/2010 12:00:00 AM' Where can I change the setting that governs this?

    I would like to know, what are the ways a web framework may be suitable for designing a RESTful app, in general. One goal is for example to provide http request routing, so they are automatically sent to appropriate controllers. From architectural point of view, web framework based on MVC pattern are more suitable for REST. What other features of web frameworks are helpful by building apps satisfying the REST constraints? Is there any reason why you consider certain languages(python/java) or web frameworks(django/turbogears/jersey/restlets/...) as the most applicable ones?

  • Fireworks CS4 download link?

    I'm trying to find a trial download link for Fireworks CS4 for windows and it has apparently disappeared off the face of the internet. The adobe site only has a "Coming soon" placeholder for CS5, and most of the other usual suspects like softpedia and brothersoft just redirect you to adobe. This is for work use, so I'm trying to stay off torrents and some of the shadier sites. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Thanks!
