I'm currently installing Windows 7 onto a new laptop before imaging it to deploy. I need to install the Wireless and Graphics drivers, but the HP site is offering me both ATI and Intel graphics drivers (at 102MB and 470(!)MB) a pop, as well as Intel, Broadcomm, RealTek and Atheros wireless drivers.
Is there a bit of software that will tell me what devices are in the machine so I don't have to go through, trial-and-error and find which is the right driver for the hardware?
I want to know what the average CPU usage is of a particular executable on my PC over a day.
I could write a C# app to do this, but it must exist out there?...
I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, in case it matters!
Thanks!
I'm receiving IP packets using the SLIP protocol, and I'd like to pretty-print them similarly to how tcpdump does it. My program is able to decode the SLIP protocol and create a single string containing an IP packet if necessary.
I couldn't find any relevant tcpdump command-line flags except for -r. The file format is documented at http://www.tcpdump.org/pcap/pcap.html , but it looks a bit too complicated.
Is there a Linux tool for pretty-printing raw IP packets?
Is it possible to install Windows 7 64-bit, then somehow install Windows Server 2008 R2 as a second OS, a dual boot situation, then on start up, choose which OS to boot into?
I need one command line to run at startup. I've tested the command (it re-assosiates an Amazon IP to a Linux Server) and the command run successfully.
Just need to know the best method to execute this on server reboot? The server is RedHat and I've read a bit about /etc/init.d but still unsure.
command is:
ec2-associate-address -v -i i-xxx xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx --region ap-southeast-1 -O key -W secret
How do I create a user with root privileges in Debian? Maybe it sounds a bit silly, but I don't think I need user directories, only some rights to run services (mainly web server, mysql, etc.). I just don't want to run everything under root account.
Thank you.

I just found a list of about 2000 car manufacturers which I want to put into a drop-down list... but 2000 is probably a bit too many, so I want to filter it down to maybe the top 100 most popular cars. I figure I can just use Google search popularity to give me a rough estimate of how popular the car is... but I can't find a tool that will let me query 2000 keywords. Anyone know of one?
for example
http://www.sitename.com/section1/pagename.aspx
http://www.sitename.com/section2/pagename.aspx
I need quick report only for pages which has same name. like "pagename.html" in example.
I need any free online of offline (Portable and for Windows XP 32 bit) tool.
Here is my Windows 7 Experience Index using the stock graphics driver:
And after installing the newest driver Forceware 197.45, it becomes:
The only change is that the "Gaming graphics" subscore drops from 6.4 to 5.2.
Is the stock graphic driver more optimized for Windows 7? Or is Forceware 197.45 buggy? Should I revert back to the stock driver?
My configuration:
Athlon 64 X2 5000+
Asus M2A-VM (AMD 690G, SB600)
6 GB DDR2-800 RAM (only 3.25 GB usable under Windows)
GeForce 8600 GT (256 MB)
Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
How do I find out the location of any opened files or applications in Windows XP 32 bit?
For example, I have an application running as well as some Excel files open. How do I quickly find out their locations?
I have the windows 8 release preview 32 bit iso and it fails to install when booted out of a flash drive, it copies the files and the boot loader installs but the install hangs when I boot into Windows 8 the first time, it simply keeps on spinning forever.
I did a vhd install of Windows 8 developer preview and it installed fine.
Looking at the partition from Windows 7, I can see that the files are present.
I have a quad socket octo-core system running FreeBSD. Currently, I need to turn off HyperThreading to get it to boot, as FreeBSD only supports 32 CPUs. There were some patches made awhile ago against a trunk version of 8.1, but even after modifying them slightly to work and compile with 8.1-RELEASE, the machine wouldn't boot.
Has there been any progress here? I can't find much good information about it, Google thinks I'm talking about 64-bit architecture and not literally 64 CPUs.
I'm building a Raid array for the first time in my system and I have a question regarding having multiple Raid 1 arrays in a single Win 7 system.
I'm a bit of an organizational freak with my data and I currently have two separate hard drives I want to mirror. The new motherboard I'm looking to buy supports Raid, so my question is this:
a) can I have more than one Raid 1 array in a single system?
b) would I have to buy a separate controller for the second array?
I have only one folder that would benefit from a cookieless state, therefore setting up a whole subdomain for that seems a bit overkill for now, so I was wondering if deleting the cookie using mod_header in that specific folder would be enough or if it truly requires a different subdomain/domain ?
For example, a .htaccess containing this in the /js subfolder of a webapp ?
Header unset Set-Cookie
I installed Skype when logged on to the (local) admin account. Now, when I log off that, and log on as myname on the domain, I have to click through the intial setup steps (after you've already run the installer) of Skype. So, I have to click next to get through the mic setup/test, and it asks me if I want to take a pic.
How do I get it so that any person who logs in can just open Skype and go straight to the login screen?
Windows 7 64 bit, 2008R2
I am a software developer, and I need to use old version of Borland/Embarcadero Delphi 7 for one software. The others ones are PHP software.
I will have soon a 64 bits PC, running Linux, but I need a Windows 32 bits virtual machine for Delphi (because Delphi 7 is a bit old, and our clients still use Windows XP 32 bits systems). I already have a VM under virtualbox for my Delphi environment.
Will it run fine, or will I have some problem?
Our internal network folder can take up to 5 seconds to generate a thumbnail for each photo in a network folder. Usually, only 10% of thumbnails actually display; the rest are default jpg icons.
A thumbs.db file already exists inside this folder, so presumably the thumbnails have been generated before. Why do they have to be generated again?
The PC is Win7 64-bit.
The server is Windows 2003 Server SP2.
Hi all,
I have a 64 bit windows 7 install (thru bootcamp) on my 17" macbook pro, with the bootcamp 3.0 drivers. Whenever i run the apple software update to install the 3.1 drivers, it downloads and installs them, then reboots, and when i've rebooted, it's still stuck on version 3.0 according to 'about boot camp' on the system tray icon. I've tried installing several times, it keeps happening.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Is there a good bit of software on OSX that I can use to monitor incoming and outgoing network activity? Nothing too geeky, just want something simple to use.
I'm on snow leopard if that helps.
I'm running Ubuntu in a virtual machine (host machine is Windows 7). Is it possible to use Fiddler in the host machine to capture the traffic from the virtual machine? Seeing as the virtual machine's network must be passing through the host computers NIC, can Fiddler capture the packets? (I don't know of any free alternative to Fiddler for Linux, except Tamper Data, but I need a bit more control). Thanks.

I am currently using Screamer Radio but it is a little bit buggy. It freezes a lot if internet connection is bad and can not continue if there are interruptions in the internet connection.
I am not interested in some full sized MP3/media player, just a simple (with low memory footprint) application that can play streaming internet radio stations.
Hi guys,
This is a bit of a silly question, how do I run Thunderbird 3 which I downloaded? Well, I can get it to run by executing the 'thunderbird' shell script file. However that creates a terminal windows aswell and will close Thunderbird if it is closed.
How do I get it to open without the terminal?
Thanks.
Edit: I am running Ubuntu 9.10.
