I'm reading Bob Martin's principles of OOD, specifically the SRP text, and I understand the spirit of what it's saying pretty well, but I don't quite understand a particular phrasing, from page 2 of the link (page 150 of the book):
I paraphrase:
It is important to separate these two responsibilities into separate classes because each responsibility is an axis of change.
What exactly is meant here by "axis of change"?
We have recently downloaded, installed and compiled gcc-3.0.4 code. gcc compiler has built successfully and we where able to compile some same test cpp file. I would like to know how we can modify gcc source code so that we add additional run time debugging statements like the binary in execution compiled by my gcc should print below statement in a log file:
filename.cpp::FunctionName#linenumber-statement
or any additional information that I can insert via this tailored compiler code Any references would be highly appreciable.
I have a uri string like: http://example.com/file?a=1&b=2&c=string%20param
Is there an existing function that would convert query parameter string into a dictionary same way as ASP.NET Context.Request does it.
I'm writing a console app and not a web-service so there is no Context.Request to parse the URL for me.
I know that it's pretty easy to crack the query string myself but I'd rather use a FCL function is if exists.
hello

I searched the site but didn't see anything quite matching what I was looking for. I created a stand alone application that uses a web service I created. To run the client I use:
c:/scriptsdirecotry "run-client.bat" param1 param2 param3 param4
how would I go about coding this in python or F#. seems like it should be pretty simple but I haven't seen anything online that quite matches what i'm looking for.
Thanks in advance.
I know the .NET framework and WPF pretty well, but I think the whole thing has gotten too blown up, especially for small apps as the whole .NET framework 3.5 weighs 197 MB by now.
I am looking for a language/framework/library that provides functionality similar to that of WPF (animations, gradients, a.s.o.) and the .NET framework (of course not everything, but the basic features) and which is faster and more lightweight than the .NET framework and creates smaller and faster applications than the ones using .NET.
Do you have any suggestions?
I wanto to match the last occurence of a simple pattern in a string, e.g.
list = re.findall(r"\w+ AAAA \w+", "foo bar AAAA foo2 AAAA bar2)
print "last match: ", list[len(list)-1]
however, if the string is very long, a huge list of matches is generated. Is there a more direct way to match the second occurence of "AAAA" or should I use this workaround?
Right now my code works as such:
def method_a
self.method_b ==> 'method_b'
end
def method_b
puts self.name_of_calling_method
end
def name_of_calling_method
if /`(.*)'/.match(caller.first)
return $1
else
return nil
end
end
Instead of method_b printing 'method_b', how can I print the name of the calling method - 'method_a'?
In Python I can use the iterkeys() method to iterate over the keys of a dictionary. For example:
mydict = {'a': [3,5,6,43,3,6,3,],
'b': [87,65,3,45,7,8],
'c': [34,57,8,9,9,2],}
for k in mydict.iterkeys():
print k
gives me:
a
c
b
How can I do something similar in Javascript?
There is an email service ExactTarget with web service API.
There are samples (in php though) for sending email to whole list instantly, or to single subscriber by triggered action.
It's pretty hard to get in it's documentation, and I couldn't find explanation how to send email to a single subscriber instantly without having some triggering actions.
Any help or advice will be great.
I have done urlencode of the variable before passing to the URL
http://example.com/Restaurants?aliasF%26B
But when I try to print like in the page
$alias = rawurldecode($_GET['alias']);
echo $alias;
it prints only F. How to solve this?
We need some simple ad-hoc reporting solution for our ASP.NET web-site.
Just an ability to build a query with user friendly interface, then show the result of this query in some table and maybe export it to Excel or print.
The solution must be quite easy for end users (our site visitors) who know nothing about databases, SQL and other tech stuff.
#!/usr/bin/python
#this looks for words in dictionary that begin with 'in' and the suffix is a real word
wordlist = [line.strip() for line in open('/usr/share/dict/words')]
newlist = []
for word in wordlist:
if word.startswith("in"):
newlist.append(word)
for word in newlist:
word = word.split('in')
print newlist
how would I get the program to remove the string "in" from all the words that it starts with? right now it does not work
Does anyone know if there's a jQuery plugin to format code, XML or HTML?
I'm showing the user some code on an html page. I used google prettify to make the code look pretty, but would like some indentation and linebreaks too. any suggestions?
In my code I am using java.sql.PreparedStatement.
I then execute the setString() method to populate the wildcards of the prepared statement.
Is there a way for me to retrieve (and print out) the final query before the executeQuery() method is called and the query is executed? I Just want this for debugging purposes.
Thanks.
I need to get a path to the GIT on Max OS X 10.6 using Python 2.6.1 into script variables. I use this code for that:
r = subprocess.Popen(shlex.split("which git"), stdout=subprocess.PIPE)
print r.stdout.read()
but the problem is that output is empty (I tried stderr too). It works fine with another commands such as pwd or ls.
Can anyone help me with that?
Hopefully I can articulate this well: I'm porting an application I made years ago from VB6 (I know, I know!) to C++/Qt. In my original application, one thing I liked was that I didn't need an actual SQL server running, I could just use MS Access .mdb files. I was wondering if something similar exists for Qt that will work on multiple OSes - a database stored in a file, pretty much, but that I can still run SQL queries with. Not sure if something like this exists or not, but any help appreciated, thanks!
In my code, I am using an array xyz of 10 objects. When I am trying to access an element of the array using an unsigned int index like this: xyz[level], I get 'Buffer overrun' warning. Logically, I am pretty sure that level won't exceed 10. How to avoid this warning?
I'm learning functional programming with Clojure. What practical excersises can you recommend? Online repositories with solutions would be perfect.
One idea I can think of is going through all the popular algorithms on sorting, trees, graphs etc. and implementing them in Clojure myself. While it could work, it may be pretty steep and I'm likely to do it inefficiently (compared to someone who knows what she's doing).
I'm pretty efficient in jQuery, having implementing it in several projects for my company. However, I found myself a little lost when reading stuff like node.js.
Do i have to go back to basics and learn the javascript language or should i just stick with jQuery?
I'm looking for a good tool for printing Invoices, Receipts and similar documents in Java Swing. I have tried JasperReports but it is pretty hard to get a dynamic layout and it is designing for reports.
A requirement that I have is that the document should be sent directly to the printer and must not be saved to a file. So some tools that first creates an Office Document or a PDF document isn't a solution for me.
Any recommendations?
Hello, I want to write a default Logger for my application. Currently I am using the default Java API Class Logger .
I was wondering if it's possible to format my logs to look somthing like this:
[level] [dd:MM:YYYY] [hh:mm:ss] message
The logger should also be able to print the messages into the System.out and into a file ?
Where should I look for this functionality ?
Can you please give me some code snippets ?
I'm pretty sure you can, but in addition to answering the question in the title, could you also explain the pros, cons, caveats, if any, to doing so? I know that you can't return a List, Set, Collection, Map, or any interface, from a WebMethod (which is stupid, IMO, but I don't know what the design reasons were should I should probably withhold judgment).
Thanks for any advice.

Hello,
I'm pretty new to Java ME and i'm trying to use Microlog to handle logging in my midlet.
In eclipse i can reference Microlog jars and it's all good in dev time,
but when i try to launch the application the jars aren't found on the device.
How can i bundle those referenced libs into my midlet?
Thanks.
