  • Graphviz for documentation.

    - by Marcin
I noticed that doxygen uses the graphviz library for creating diagrams. Have you ever used graphviz for generating documentation? Is it worth learning the graphviz for documentation purposes outside the scope of doxygen? Or am I better off to sticking with a standard data modeling package like Visio? I understand the merits of it as a graphing library, but for trying to represent more complex UML (or similar) is it still worth looking into?

  • iPhone Debugger Message -- Weird

    - by Bill Shiff
Hello, I have an iPhone app that I've been working on and have recently upgraded my version of XCode. Since the upgrade, I can build and debug in the iPhone Simulator just fine, but when I try to debug on an attached device I get the following messages: From Xcode4: GNU gdb 6.3.50-20050815 (Apple version gdb-1510) (Fri Oct 22 04:12:10 UTC 2010) Copyright 2004 Free Software Foundation, Inc. • Java: file write on finalize method

    - by sowrov
    In my understanding a singleton object will destroy only when the application is about to terminate. So in C++ I write a Singleton class to log my application and in that Singleton logger's destructor I log the time when my application was terminated. Things worked perfectly in C++. Now I want to have that same logger in Java, as in java there is no destructor so I implemented the finalize method for that singleton logger. But it seem that finalize method actually never get called. So, I add that System.runFinalizersOnExit(true); line, somewhere in my code (though I know it is deprecated) and that finalize method get called every time before termination of the app. But still there is a problem! If I try to write anything on file in that finalize method, It does not work, though System.out work without any problem! :( Can you guys help me on this problem? Here is a sample code of what I am try to do: Singleton Logger Class: public class MyLogger { FileWriter writer; private MyLogger() { try { this.writer = new FileWriter("log.txt"); } catch (IOException ex) { } } public static MyLogger getInstance() { return MyLoggerHolder.INSTANCE; } private static class MyLoggerHolder { private static final MyLogger INSTANCE = new MyLogger(); } @Override protected void finalize () { try { super.finalize(); System.out.println("Here"); //worked correctly. this.writer.write(new Date().toString()+System.getProperty("line.separator")); this.writer.write("End"); this.writer.flush(); //does not work! this.writer.close(); } catch (Throwable ex) { } } public synchronized void log(String str) { try { this.writer.write(new Date().toString()+System.getProperty("line.separator")); this.writer.write(str+"\n"); this.writer.flush(); } catch (IOException ex) { } } } Main: public class Main { public static void main(String[] args) { System.runFinalizersOnExit(true); MyLogger logger = MyLogger.getInstance(); logger.log("test"); } }

  • Can't Get ANT build to work in eclipse

    - by Travis
Long story short: I want to add the --core-library flag at compile time to include a library that depends on some javax libraries that aren't included in the android platform. I have attempted the walkthrough here: http://commons.apache.org/scxml/usecases/scxml-stopwatch-on-android.html but nothing ever changed on the emulator. I don't think I can repackage the libraries I'm after because I cannot amend the callers to call the new packages without violating a license agreement. Please, someone, point me in the right direction.

  • Does Java have a .new operator?

    - by chickeninabiscuit
I came across this code today whilst reading Accelerated GWT (Gupta) - page 151. public static void getListOfBooks(String category, BookStore bookStore) { serviceInstance.getBooks(category, bookStore.new BookListUpdaterCallback()); } public static void storeOrder(List books, String userName, BookStore bookStore) { serviceInstance.storeOrder(books, userName, bookStore.new StoreOrderCallback()); } What are those new operators doing there? I've never seen such syntax, can anyone explain?

  • How to convert any text/font to its bezier path representation?

    - by yizzreel
I have a bezier path library to draw complex bezier paths without problem. Now, I need to know how to read a text or font and extract its path information to draw it as a path instead of as text. I came across a C applicaiton, FontForge. It does exactly what I need, picks any font and extract its path information. But what I need to know is how it does it to add that feature to my drawing library.

  • How to define 'Attached property' as 'SelectedValuePath' in ComboBox?

    - by SpudCZ
    Hi, I have a problem with binding in ComboBox. I'd like to bind ComboBox items to ListView columns and as a selected value return value of attached property defined on the selected column. In example bellow you can see working sample that displays width of selected column. If you try to change SelectedValuePath in ComboBox into (loc:SampleBehavior.SampleValue) you get binding error: BindingExpression path error: '(u:SearchableListView.SearchMemberPath)' property not found on 'object' ''GridViewColumn' <Window x:Class="Problem_Sample1.Window1" xmlns="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml/presentation" xmlns:x="http://schemas.microsoft.com/winfx/2006/xaml" xmlns:loc="clr-namespace:Problem_Sample1" WindowStartupLocation="CenterScreen" Title="Window1" Height="300" Width="300"> <DockPanel> <ComboBox DockPanel.Dock="Top" x:Name="combobox" ItemsSource="{Binding Path=View.Columns, ElementName=listview}" DisplayMemberPath="Header" SelectedValuePath="Width"> </ComboBox> <StatusBar DockPanel.Dock="Bottom"> <TextBlock> <TextBlock Text="Selected column (value): " /> <TextBlock Text="{Binding Path=SelectedValue, ElementName=combobox}" /> </TextBlock> </StatusBar> <ListView x:Name="listview"> <ListView.View> <GridView> <GridViewColumn Header="Name" Width="101" loc:SampleBehavior.SampleValue="201" /> <GridViewColumn Header="Surname" Width="102" loc:SampleBehavior.SampleValue="202" /> </GridView> </ListView.View> </ListView> </DockPanel> </Window>   SampleBehavior.cs using System.Windows; using System.Windows.Controls; namespace Problem_Sample1 { public static class SampleBehavior { public static readonly DependencyProperty SampleValueProperty = DependencyProperty.RegisterAttached( "SampleValue", typeof (int), typeof (SampleBehavior)); [AttachedPropertyBrowsableForType(typeof(GridViewColumn))] public static int GetSampleValue(GridViewColumn column) { return (int)column.GetValue(SampleValueProperty); } [AttachedPropertyBrowsableForType(typeof(GridViewColumn))] public static void SetSampleValue(GridViewColumn column, int value) { column.SetValue(SampleValueProperty, value); } } }   Thanks for any help or suggestion.

  • Regular expressions in c++ STL

    - by Radek Šimko
Is there any native library in STL which is tested and works without any extra compiler options? I tried to use <regex>, but the compiler outputs this: In file included from /usr/include/c++/4.3/regex:40, from main.cpp:5: /usr/include/c++/4.3/c++0x_warning.h:36:2: error: #error This file requires compiler and library support for the upcoming ISO C++ standard, C++0x. This support is currently experimental, and must be enabled with the -std=c++0x or -std=gnu++0x compiler options.

  • odd resharper indentation formatting for object intializers

    - by bitbonk
For some strange reason when I have nested object intializers it always gets the last '}' wrong. It is not indented at all as shown in the following example: namespace MyNameSpace { internal static class MyClass { static MyClass() { var bla = new Bla { Name = "Bla" }; bla.Blub = new Blub { Name = "Blub", Blap = new Blap { Name = "Blap", Visible = true }, Blob = new Blob { Name = "Blob" }, Blib = new Blib { Blep = new Heater { Name = "Bleb" }, Id = 1, Blap = new Blap { Name = "Blap" } } // <---- wrong !!! }; } } } Any idea what I can do against it ?

  • Flash Builder 4 is suggesting mx1 instead of mx! why?

    - by Tam
I just bought and installed the Flash Builder 4 after having the Beta for a while. The same code is giving me compile-time errors and suggests using mx1 instead of mx! If I make it mx1 the compile error goes away. Here is the top of my component. <s:SkinnableContainer xmlns:fx="http://ns.adobe.com/mxml/2009" xmlns:s="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/spark" xmlns:mx="library://ns.adobe.com/flex/halo" I mentioned nothing about mx1.

  • Is there any workaround for making a structure member somehow 'private' in C ?

    - by nomemory
I am developing a simple library in C, for my own + some friends personal use. I am currently having a C structure with some members that should be somehow hidden from the rest of the application, as their use is only internal. Modifying by accident one of this members will probably make the library 'go wild'. Is there any 'workaround' to hide those members so that they can't be accessible ?

  • Best C# Corba / IIOP framework

    - by krs43
I am looking to connect to the CBOE, which provides a Corba / IIOP interface. There are many professional libraries for Java/C++, but I cannot find any for C#. What is the best library for corba in C#? (I have looked at IIOP.Net... it's an option, but it hasn't been updated in years, prefer a more maintained or professional library)

  • Why does the Ternary\Conditional operator seem significantly faster

    - by Jodrell
Following on from this question, which I have partially answered. I compile this console app in x64 Release Mode, with optimizations on, and run it from the command line without a debugger attached. using System; using System.Diagnostics; class Program { static void Main() { var stopwatch = new Stopwatch(); var ternary = Looper(10, Ternary); var normal = Looper(10, Normal); if (ternary != normal) { throw new Exception(); } stopwatch.Start(); ternary = Looper(10000000, Ternary); stopWatch.Stop(); Console.WriteLine( "Ternary took {0}ms", stopwatch.ElapsedMilliseconds); stopwatch.Start(); normal = Looper(10000000, Normal); stopWatch.Stop(); Console.WriteLine( "Normal took {0}ms", stopwatch.ElapsedMilliseconds); if (ternary != normal) { throw new Exception(); } Console.ReadKey(); } static int Looper(int iterations, Func<bool, int, int> operation) { var result = 0; for (int i = 0; i < iterations; i++) { var condition = result % 11 == 4; var value = ((i * 11) / 3) % 5; result = operation(condition, value); } return result; } static int Ternary(bool condition, in value) { return value + (condition ? 2 : 1); } static int Normal(int iterations) { if (condition) { return = 2 + value; } return = 1 + value; } } I don't get any exceptions and the output to the console is somthing close to, Ternary took 107ms Normal took 230ms When I break down the CIL for the two logical functions I get this, ... Ternary ... { : ldarg.1 // push second arg : ldarg.0 // push first arg : brtrue.s T // if first arg is true jump to T : ldc.i4.1 // push int32(1) : br.s F // jump to F T: ldc.i4.2 // push int32(2) F: add // add either 1 or 2 to second arg : ret // return result } ... Normal ... { : ldarg.0 // push first arg : brfalse.s F // if first arg is false jump to F : ldc.i4.2 // push int32(2) : ldarg.1 // push second arg : add // add second arg to 2 : ret // return result F: ldc.i4.1 // push int32(1) : ldarg.1 // push second arg : add // add second arg to 1 : ret // return result } Whilst the Ternary CIL is a little shorter, it seems to me that the execution path through the CIL for either function takes 3 loads and 1 or 2 jumps and a return. Why does the Ternary function appear to be twice as fast. I underdtand that, in practice, they are both very quick and indeed, quich enough but, I would like to understand the discrepancy.

  • What common routines do you put in your Program.cs for C#

    - by Rick
I'm interested in any common routine/procedures/methods that you might use in you Program.cs when creating a .NET project. For instance I commonly use the following code in my desktop applications to allow easy upgrades, single instance execution and friendly and simple reporting of uncaught system application errors. using System; using System.Diagnostics; using System.Threading; using System.Windows.Forms; namespace NameoftheAssembly { internal static class Program { /// <summary> /// The main entry point for the application. Modified to check for another running instance on the same computer and to catch and report any errors not explicitly checked for. /// </summary> [STAThread] private static void Main() { //for upgrading and installing newer versions string[] arguments = Environment.GetCommandLineArgs(); if (arguments.GetUpperBound(0) > 0) { foreach (string argument in arguments) { if (argument.Split('=')[0].ToLower().Equals("/u")) { string guid = argument.Split('=')[1]; string path = Environment.GetFolderPath(Environment.SpecialFolder.System); var si = new ProcessStartInfo(path + "\\msiexec.exe", "/x" + guid); Process.Start(si); Application.Exit(); } } //end of upgrade } else { bool onlyInstance = false; var mutex = new Mutex(true, Application.ProductName, out onlyInstance); if (!onlyInstance) { MessageBox.Show("Another copy of this running"); return; } AppDomain.CurrentDomain.UnhandledException += CurrentDomain_UnhandledException; Application.ThreadException += ApplicationThreadException; Application.EnableVisualStyles(); Application.SetCompatibleTextRenderingDefault(false); Application.Run(new Form1()); } } private static void CurrentDomain_UnhandledException(object sender, UnhandledExceptionEventArgs e) { try { var ex = (Exception) e.ExceptionObject; MessageBox.Show("Whoops! Please contact the developers with the following" + " information:\n\n" + ex.Message + ex.StackTrace, " Fatal Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Stop); } catch (Exception) { //do nothing - Another Exception! Wow not a good thing. } finally { Application.Exit(); } } public static void ApplicationThreadException(object sender, ThreadExceptionEventArgs e) { try { MessageBox.Show("Whoops! Please contact the developers with the following" + " information:\n\n" + e.Exception.Message + e.Exception.StackTrace, " Error", MessageBoxButtons.OK, MessageBoxIcon.Stop); } catch (Exception) { //do nothing - Another Exception! Wow not a good thing. } } } } I find these routines to be very helpful. What methods have you found helpful in Program.cs?

  • When exactly would a DLL use a different heap than the executable?

    - by Milo
I know that if your DLL static links against a different version of the runtime then it creates its own heap. It will also if it is instructed to make a heap. Under these circumstances, it is unsafe for the DLL to delete what the exe allocated. In what cases does this NOT apply (as in, it is safe for the DLL to delete what the exe allocated)? Is it safe if both the exe and the DLL static link against the same runtime library? Thanks
