• Skype webcam won't work

  I am a very new Ubuntu 12.04 user and would like to install Skype. It used to be available from Ubuntu Software Centre but it is no longer available from there. So I downloaded it and installed same. The Ubuntu SC Installed section does not list it But Ubuntu Tweak does. Skype works for sound only but no webcam = Logitec QuickCam Express 046d:0928. Could you please help to make it work. According what I read it should work out of the box BUT it does not. Your advise/help by email to [email protected] would be most appreciated.   I am a software developer(sharepoint developer) with total 3 years of experience.Though using out of the box sharepoint excites me, i have aversion to code. i kinda cant put my brains in coding. i have my eyes on MBA now(only reason is to get rid of code). I wanted to rethink on this and need your expert advice and suggestions. As i am working currently in a hot skill(sharepoint 2013) technology, is it a good thought to go ahead and do MBA and change my career, or should i start liking what i do?? • Triple monitors on hybrid video system GeForce+Intel

  I use Lenovo Ideapad Z580A with hybrid video: GeForce+Intel with Ubuntu 12.10 x64 Ukrainian. It has internal display and two outputs: HDMI and VGA. When I connect third display to VGA all displays go black. Pressing alt+backspace and login causes output to two displays: internal and VGA. System Settings - Displays (or monitors - I have Ukrainian interface) shows three displays: two are on, one (DVI) is off. Turning DVI on and pressing apply causes an error: Can not set configuration of controller CRTC 65. BIOS setting is Optimus (two video cards). Driver for GeForce is Nouveau. With best regards. • Does an incomplete update affect my programs?

  I saw a pop up which said 'updates are available' so I clicked it. I completely forgot that the installation was incomplete, I logged off. NOw when I came back, it told me to do a partial update. I read the internet for information, partial update wasn't the safest thing for me. I tried to log in to skype, it said another skype may exist. That wasn't true, Skype wasn't opened. I'm not sure if it's because of the incomplete update, but I'm quite off, in trouble. Please reply. Thank you Regards Junior

• StreamInsight will not push feature releases through Microsoft Update going forward

  Until now, we've released StreamInsight through the Microsoft Download Center, and also released it out through Microsoft Update. Going forward, we will only release new StreamInsight versions through the Microsoft Download Center and only use MU to release service packs and security fixes (should any be needed). As a result of this decision, we are pulling off the recent StreamInsight 2.1 release from MU; this release is still available in Download Center. Don’t worry: there’s nothing wrong with the versions we’ve shipped in MU, we’ve just adjusted how we use MU. There is no action necessary from our customers as a result of this change, and we are not rolling back any changes to your current installation, so if you have installed StreamInsight 2.1 recently through the Microsoft Update, they will still work fine. • Subscribe/Publish Model in Web-based Application (c#) - Best Practices for Event Handlers

  I was recently exposed to a desktop application that uses an publish/subscribe model to handle commands, events, etc. I can't seem to find any good examples of using this in a web application, so I wonder if I am off base in trying to use this for web based development (on the server side)? I'm using asp.net c#. My main question in regards to the design is: When using a publish/subscribe model, is it better to have generic commands/events that pass no parameters and then have the subscribers look at static context objects that contain the data relevant to the event? Or is it better to create custom arguments for every event that contain data related to the event? The whole concept of a global container seems so convenient but at the same time seems to break encapsulation. Any thoughts or best practices from anyone who has implemented this type of model in a web based application? Even suggestions on this model out of the scope of my question are appreciated.

This actions drop down I would like to have an action to 'Enable Editing'. Upon clicking to enable editing, I would like a PHP variable modified from 'EnableEditing = false' to 'EnableEditing = true'. Why I would like to use PHP maybe questionable, here is why I would like to use PHP under my understanding to clarify; Sections on my page will show to different administrators depending on their level. Upon enabling editing mode, certain contents will then dynamically. <?php if ($_SESSION['user_level_status'] < 2) { if ($editing = enabled) { show this } else { show this } } ?> Something similar to this, I'm new at PHP so this may look incorrect.   first of all, i have to say i am new in using linux! i have installed ubuntu 11.04 and i wanted chenged its interface by macbuntu 10.10 and i've done it but the problem is that genie effect is not actived until now so i googled in many forums and i faund out that i must change my compizconfig manager! i've done it but when i try to use this command "compiz --replace"! my laptop crash that means i could not move any windows or terminal! i could not miniminze or close them??! what i am supposed to do for solviling this crash??? best regards, iman

  What is the best way to do for example food growth based on how many food buildings you have? Lets say I have a webbased game where you can build a farm wich generates 60 food units per hour. A player has 1 farm in his possession. What is the best way to keep on producing these units even when the player is offline? Should I do the math when the player get's back online again? If so..how can I do this without having to save his last online time every 5 seconds so I can do some maths with it when he logs back in (datetime.now - lastonlinetime)? Next thing is when the player is online, should I refresh his resource count every 5 seconds or so by going to the database and back? This would seem weird to do for every logged on player. I hope you understand my question. kind regards

• Lock screen elements frozen on desktop

  I have finally made the switch from Windows to Ubuntu and now have to ask the first question because search did not help me this time. (Please help me in a newb-friendly way) The problem is easily described: The elements shown in the lockscreen on boot (ubuntu logo in the middle and watermark in bottom left corner) stay there even when I'm entering desktop. How can I remove them again? They haven't been there in the first place, but after updating Ubuntu with Update Center, the problem occured. • How to install Radeon X600 driver

  I am completely new to Ubuntu and now running into so many problems regarding my display. I will be so grateful to the community to help me out and keep me loving Ubuntu. When I run lspci | grep VGA I get the following output 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc RV380 [Radeon X600 (PCIE)] I am not sure if it means the driver is installed. Now the problem is I can not change the resolution like I can do in windows. I wanted to use dual monitor but it can not detect dual monitor. The monitor option in the preference shows 'Unknown' I tried to use a VGA switch for my ps3 and computer, but the computer is stuck with 1024x768 resolution. I have been trying for last three days, couldn't figure out anything. Now asking for you wisdom to get my display work. Regards, MMRAHMAN

• Neverwinter Nights does not run in 12.10

  I recently installed a fresh version of Ubuntu 12.10 on my notebook. Then I copied the backup copy of my nwn folder from my old 12.04 install on the same computer to the new installation and tried to start the game. The terminal prompt disappears and top shows some low activity on nwmain, but there is neither showing up the game graphics nor plays any music. Any suggestions how to fix it?   First of all I'm 26 and I'm asking this question because I want to see how do you manage your time. Also I'm interested how do the programmers with a family(wife, several kids) manage their time. I'm asking this due the fact that I'm working aprox 7,5 hours at work (9 to 5), spent 1,5 hours on the way to/from workplace, and when I'm home I must cook/clean/etc and LEARN! And I have the impression that I don't have enough time to learn. Did you have a period similar in your life? To want to learn another language/improve your development/other skills? I saw here and on SO that there are a lot of peoples with +10k points, this in my mind means that they stay on blogs/forums more than 15 hours a day.   I've interviewed a number of candidates for salaried positions. I was recently informed that we are hiring a consultant for a few months to help us develop a native iPhone application. We are a .NET shop and none of us have any experience with iPhone development. I've also heard rumors that we are planning to hire more consultants in the future to help develop on other various platforms. How should I interview these consultants, considering that I have no experience with this type of development? Without regards to platform specific questions, what are the things I need to keep in mind when interviewing consultants? Normally when I interview candidates, I'll ask questions that I know the answer to. I would never ask a candidate something that I don't know how to answer. Since this is a different situation, what do I need to ask in order to make sure they are subject matter experts in their respective fields? Is it appropriate to ask specific questions that we'll need to eventually solve during the interview?

I was thinking in a server-side in JSP,Java and a client-side in HTML (or HTML5 if I learn to give it good use). Do you think my choices are right? I would like to make a board where many players could move simultaneously between tiles or squares. Do you think is possible in JSP or I should start with other language?   I am beginner at Ubuntu. Here is my problem. I have Ubuntu installed on my external HDD and i am running XP through vmware on Ubuntu, because my internal disk is dead atm. External HDD have ext4 (37gb) and 2 NTFS partition (36gb and 220gb). My question is, how i can access that 220gb (or 36gb) NTFS partition from vmware XP? • After upgrading to 12.04 lts server, the mouse is intermittently working

  After this upgrade, I've had a problem with the mouse intermittently working and programs crashing (like zentyal crashing and the error reporting application crashing) I also had an error on the screen that said: "Could not grab your mouse. A malisious client may be eavesdropping on your session or you may have just clicked a menu or some application just decided to get focus. Try again." What's going on with this system? Did I really get malware that quickly? This system has been boxed up since 2011. I only did the upgrade today... In regards to the mouse I can move it around, but when I click on something, it doesn't work.

• Can I resize my partitions?

  Following is a screenshot of my current partitions shown by gparted Note that the partitions on the right of /dev/sda3, without labels on them in the figure, are /dev/sda6 (for /home), /dev/sda7 (for /), unallocated, and /dev/sda5 (for swap), from left to right, form altogether the primary partition /dev/sda4. I would like to resize the partitions, such that some unused space from /dev/sda7 (for /) and the small unallocated space can be moved to /dev/sda3 (for /windows-d) and make it larger. If it is possible, I wonder how to do that? Thanks and regards!

• Nvidia GTS 450 HDMI problem?

  Good afternoon friends. I have a problem with my video card, I have a video card GeForce GTS 450 and a TV Samsung Series 4 43 "and I have it connected to my video card via a cable Mini HDMI to the TV and everything works perfectly, I can instarlar Ubuntu 12.04 (64bits) perfectly, but the problem when I want to change the screen resolution but try to change the driver I install that comes directly from the Nvidia page gave me an error at the end. maximum resolution I presents is 1024x 768 and is supposed to introduce more resolutions and that is connected to the HDMI. A someone else has happened???? Will have some sort of solution???? I hope someone can help me and I thank you very much. Regards
