  • Using Classes / OOP in PHP

    - by Alex Demchak
    I'm pretty proficient with PHP, outside of OOP - which I am just now starting to jump in to. I've been watching videos and reading tutorials, but they are all still pretty confusing... If I have FILE 1 (class.time.php) class Time { function GetTime(){ $time = date('H:i:s'); printf($time); } } and then in a nother php page I've got FILE 2 (page.php) I can do include('class.time.php'); and then anywhere in this page I can then do $time = new Time; //Calling the class and setting the class to a variable $time->GetTime(); //This is BASICALLY saying (run the 'GetTime' function in the 'Time Class' My main question is, is the comment above (This is BASICALLY saying.....) correct? or is there a better way to think of it?

  • which design choose? - pros and cons

    - by Guarava Makanili
    Which of these 3 approches would choose and why? // This is the one I would choose class Car { } class FeeCalculator { public double calculateFee(Car car) { return 0; } } // in that case the problem might be when we use ORM framework and we try to invoke save with parameter Car class Car { private FeeCalculator calculator; public double calculateFee() { return calculator.calculateFee(this); } } class FeeCalculator { public double calculateFee(Car car) { return 0; } } // in that case the problem mentioned above is solved, but I don't like this design class Car { public double calculateFee(FeeCalculator calculator) { return calculator.calculateFee(this); } } class FeeCalculator { public double calculateFee(Car car) { return 0; } }

  • Select lowest nested selector when clicked

    - by rikAtee
    I would like to click $('.sub-menu') selector and return the lowerst nested item that was clicked, rather than the highest. e.g., when I click "enlish", "root" is returned becasue "english" is a child of "root". I want "english" returned when I select "english". <div ID="browse_container"> <div class="sub-menu">Root <div class="sub-menu">English</div> <div class="sub-menu">Maths <div class="sub-menu">Year 1</div> <div class="sub-menu">Year 2</div> </div> <div class="sub-menu">? Science</div> </div> </div> my script is simply: $('.sub-menu, #root').on('click', function(event){ alert($(this).text()) });

  • C++ inheritance question

    - by user233973
    Hi guys, I have a C++ inheritance related question. I have a set of classes like this (I have not given the complete class structure coz I am lazy :) ). I want to access chiComponent class public methods using com pointer. How should I go about it? Note that I am having to change the object which "com" is pointing to in a lot of places. So I do not think I can have another chiComponent *ccom = <some_cast> com; ccom.chiComponentMethod() How should I go about it? class Component{ }; class chiComponent : public Component { public: void chiComponentMethod() { cout << "Hi! Chi component function called!!"; } } class parent { protected: Component *com; }; class child : public parent{ public: child() { com = new chiComponent(); } } Regards Arun

  • Hibernate - Persisting polymorphic joins

    - by Marty Pitt
    Hi I'm trying to understand how to best implement a polymorphic one-to-many in hibernate. Eg: @MappedSuperclass public class BaseEntity { Integer id; // etc... } @Entity public class Author extends BaseEntity {} @Entity public class Post extends BaseEntity {} @Entity public class Comment extends BaseEntity {} And now, I'd like to also persist audit information, with the following class: @Entity public class AuditEvent { @ManyToOne // ? BaseEntity entity; } What is the appropriate mapping for auditEvent.entity? Also, how will Hibernate actually persist this? Would a series of join tables be generated (AuditEvent_Author , AuditEvent_Post, AuditEvent_Comment), or is there a better way? Note, I'd rather not have my other entity classes expose the other side of the join (eg., List<AuditEvent> events on BaseEntity) - but if that's the cleanest way to implement, then it will suffice.

  • Django admin panel doesn't work after modify default user model.

    - by damienix
    I was trying to extend user profile. I founded a few solutions, but the most recommended was to create new user class containing foreign key to original django.contrib.auth.models.User class. I did it with this so i have in models.py: class UserProfile(models.Model): user = models.ForeignKey(User, unique=True) website_url = models.URLField(verify_exists=False) and in my admin.py from django.contrib import admin from someapp.models import * from django.contrib.auth.admin import UserAdmin # Define an inline admin descriptor for UserProfile model class UserProfileInline(admin.TabularInline): model = UserProfile fk_name = 'user' max_num = 1 # Define a new UserAdmin class class MyUserAdmin(UserAdmin): inlines = [UserProfileInline, ] # Re-register UserAdmin admin.site.unregister(User) admin.site.register(User, MyUserAdmin) And now when I'm trying to create/edit user in admin panel i have an error: "Unknown column 'content_userprofile.id' in 'field list'" where content is my appname. I was trying to add line AUTH_PROFILE_MODULE = 'content.UserProfile' to my settings.py but with no effect. How to tell panel admin to know how to correctly display fields in user form?

  • Member Function Pointer not quite right

    - by BlackDuck
    I have a SpecialisedRedBlackTree class that is templated. My Month class is not. In my Month class I have a private member which is an instance of SpecialisedRedBlackTree: SpecialisedRedBlackTree<Day> m_windSpeedTree; As you can see it will take the Day class/object (please correct me on any terms I get wrong). In my Month class, I have a method passing a method function pointer to this method: bool Month::CompareWindSpeed(Day a, Day b) { return ( a.GetData(WIND_SPEED_CODE) < b.GetData(WIND_SPEED_CODE)? true : false); } bool (Month::*myFuncPtr)(Day, Day); myFuncPtr = &Month::CompareWindSpeed; m_windSpeedTree.Insert(dayReading, myFuncPtr); But because I am passing a bool (Day, Day) pointer to a templated class expecting bool (T, T) T being part of this .... template Error 1 error C2664: 'SpecialisedRedBlackTree<T>::Insert' : cannot convert parameter 2 from 'bool (__thiscall Month::* )(Day,Day)' to 'bool (__cdecl *)(T,T)' Any advice?

  • Create table with PHP and populate from MySQL

    - by typoknig
    Hi all, I am creating a table to display on a web page and that table is populated from data in a MySQL database. I am trying to do a couple of things that are making it difficult for me. First I am trying to have call the PHP code that exists in a separate file in HTML via JavaScript. I think I have that working right but I am not 100% sure (because the table will not display). I think it is working right because some of the code for the table (which is in the PHP file) displays in FireBug. Second I am trying to make it so the rows alternate colors for easy viewing too. My PHP code so far is below. The table does not display at all in any browser. $query = "SELECT * FROM employees"; $result = mysql_query($query); $num = mysql_num_rows($result); echo '<table>'; for ($i = 0; $i < $num; $i++){ $row = mysql_fetch_array($result); $id = $row['id']; $l_name = $row['l_name']; $f_name = $row['f_name']; $ssn = $row['ssn']; $class = (($i % 2) == 0) ? "table_odd_row" : "table_even_row"; echo "<tr>"; echo "<td class=" . $class . ">$wrap_id</td>"; echo "<td class=" . $class . ">$wrap_l_name</td>"; echo "<td class=" . $class . ">$wrap_f_name</td>"; echo "<td class=" . $class . ">$wrap_ssn</td>"; echo "</tr>"; } echo '</table>'; mysql_close($link); }

  • How do you pass self to class_eval in ruby?

    - by klochner
    I'm working on a metaprogramming task, where I'm trying to use a single method to define a polymorphic association in the calling class, while also defining the association in the target class. I need to pass in the name of the calling class to get the association right. Here's a snippet that should get the idea across: class SomeClass < ActiveRecord::Base has_many :join_models, :dependent=:destroy end class JoinModel < ActiveRecord::Base belongs_to :some_class belongs_to :entity, :polymorphic=true end module Foo module ClassMethods def acts_as_entity has_many :join_models, :as=:entity, :dependent=:destroy has_many :some_classes, :through=:join_models klass = self.name.tableize SomeClass.class_eval "has_many :#{klass}, :through=:join_models" end end end I'd like to eliminate the klass= line, but don't know how else to pass a reference to self from the calling class into class_eval. any suggestions?

  • ordering a collection by an association's property

    class Person belongs_to :team class Status #has last_updated property class Team has_many :members, :class => "Person" Ok, so I have a Team class which has many People in it and each of those people has a status and each status has a last_updated property. I'm currently rendering a partial with a collection similar to: =render :partial => "user", :collection => current_user.team.members Now how do I go about sorting the collection by the last_updated property of the Status class? Thanks in advance! p.s. I've just written the ruby code from memory, it's just an example, it's not meant to compile but I hope you get the idea!

  • When to use a service in Android

    - by Computerish
    Hi everyone, I have a class that fetches data in response to button presses in the main activity. Unfortunately, I keep running into problems because this class is not an Activity or a Service. For example, without a Context I cannot translate a resource id into a string: getString(R.string.example_string); // Doesn't work Should I make this class into a Service and have the main Activity stop the class when it is closed? Should I pass the Context from the Activity into this class like this? MyClass c = new MyClass(this); Or is there some better way to handle this problem? This issue also comes up when I try to send a Toast from this class.

  • Java: Best approach to have a long list of variables needed all the time without consuming memory?

    - by evilReiko
    I wrote an abstract class to contain all rules of the application because I need them almost everywhere in my application. So most of what it contains is static final variables, something like this: public abstract class appRules { public static final boolean IS_DEV = true; public static final String CLOCK_SHORT_TIME_FORMAT = "something"; public static final String CLOCK_SHORT_DATE_FORMAT = "something else"; public static final String CLOCK_FULL_FORMAT = "other thing"; public static final int USERNAME_MIN = 5; public static final int USERNAME_MAX = 16; // etc. } The class is big and contains LOTS of such variables. My Question: Isn't setting static variables means these variables are floating in memory all the time? Do you suggest insteading of having an abstract class, I have a instantiable class with non-static variables (just public final), so I instantiate the class and use the variables only when I need them. Or is what am I doing is completely wrong approach and you suggest something else?

  • Struct like objects in Java

    - by cdv
    Is it completely against the Java way to create struct like objects? class SomeData1 { public int x; public int y; } I can see a class with accessors and mutators being more Java like. class SomeData2 { int getX(); void setX(int x); int getY(); void setY(int y); private int x; private int y; } The class from the first example is notationally convenient. // a function in a class public int f(SomeData1 d) { return (3 * d.x) / d.y; } This is not as convenient. // a function in a class public int f(SomeData2 d) { return (3 * d.getX()) / d.getY(); }

  • including .h files.

    - by Max
    Suppose I have two .h files: A.h and B.h. Moreover, A.h includes B.h itself: B.h - declares class B. class B { ... }; A.h - declares class A, which uses class B. #include B.h class A { void SomeFunction(const B& b); }; Now, I have some .cpp file, that uses both A and B classes (B class maybe used not only in A::SomeFunction(B)) What are the pluses to include both A.h and B.h (instead of only A.h) from the perspective of design-patterns and coding style.

  • Hudson on debian lenny

    - by Laurent
    Hello, I installed Hudson deamon on one server (running on debian lenny testing) some time ago. All was working until I perform an upgrade. At this time Hudson isn't accessible at port 8080 (which is the default port used). I have looked for iptables problems, however port 8080 is open in INPUT and OUTPUT. Configuration file in /etc/default/hudson seems okay, I haven't touch it. And if I do a ps aux | grep hudson, hudson deamon is running. Update 1: What is really strange for me is that in /var/log/hudson/hudson.log I get no error : [Winstone 2010/02/10 17:10:04] - Control thread shutdown successfully [Winstone 2010/02/10 17:10:04] - Winstone shutdown successfully Running from: /usr/share/hudson/hudson.war [Winstone 2010/02/10 17:10:43] - Beginning extraction from war file hudson home directory: /var/lib/hudson [Winstone 2010/02/10 17:10:44] - HTTP Listener started: port=8080 [Winstone 2010/02/10 17:10:44] - AJP13 Listener started: port=8009 [Winstone 2010/02/10 17:10:44] - Winstone Servlet Engine v0.9.10 running: controlPort=disabled 10 févr. 2010 17:10:44 hudson.model.Hudson$4 onAttained INFO: Started initialization 10 févr. 2010 17:10:44 hudson.model.Hudson$4 onAttained INFO: Listed all plugins 10 févr. 2010 17:10:44 hudson.model.Hudson$4 onAttained INFO: Prepared all plugins 10 févr. 2010 17:10:44 hudson.model.Hudson$4 onAttained INFO: Started all plugins 10 févr. 2010 17:10:46 hudson.model.Hudson$4 onAttained INFO: Loaded all jobs 10 févr. 2010 17:10:46 hudson.model.Hudson$4 onAttained INFO: Completed initialization 10 févr. 2010 17:10:47 org.springframework.context.support.AbstractApplicationContext prepareRefresh INFO: Refreshing org.springframework.web.context.support.StaticWebApplicationContext@caa559d: display name [Root WebApplicationContext]; startup date [Wed Feb 10 17:10:47 CET 2010]; root of context hierarchy 10 févr. 2010 17:10:47 org.springframework.context.support.AbstractApplicationContext obtainFreshBeanFactory INFO: Bean factory for application context [org.springframework.web.context.support.StaticWebApplicationContext@caa559d]: org.springframework.beans.factory.support.DefaultListableBeanFactory@40d2f5f1 10 févr. 2010 17:10:47 org.springframework.beans.factory.support.DefaultListableBeanFactory preInstantiateSingletons INFO: Pre-instantiating singletons in org.springframework.beans.factory.support.DefaultListableBeanFactory@40d2f5f1: defining beans [daoAuthenticationProvider,authenticationManager,userDetailsService]; root of factory hierarchy 10 févr. 2010 17:10:47 org.springframework.context.support.AbstractApplicationContext prepareRefresh INFO: Refreshing org.springframework.web.context.support.StaticWebApplicationContext@4d88a387: display name [Root WebApplicationContext]; startup date [Wed Feb 10 17:10:47 CET 2010]; root of context hierarchy 10 févr. 2010 17:10:47 org.springframework.context.support.AbstractApplicationContext obtainFreshBeanFactory INFO: Bean factory for application context [org.springframework.web.context.support.StaticWebApplicationContext@4d88a387]: org.springframework.beans.factory.support.DefaultListableBeanFactory@6153e0c0 10 févr. 2010 17:10:47 org.springframework.beans.factory.support.DefaultListableBeanFactory preInstantiateSingletons INFO: Pre-instantiating singletons in org.springframework.beans.factory.support.DefaultListableBeanFactory@6153e0c0: defining beans [filter,legacy]; root of factory hierarchy 10 févr. 2010 17:10:47 hudson.TcpSlaveAgentListener <init> INFO: JNLP slave agent listener started on TCP port 59750 Update 2: What I get with lsof -i -n -P | grep hudson: java 28985 hudson 97u IPv6 2002707 0t0 TCP *:8080 (LISTEN) java 28985 hudson 99u IPv6 2002708 0t0 TCP *:8009 (LISTEN) java 28985 hudson 147u IPv6 2002711 0t0 TCP *:59750 (LISTEN) java 28985 hudson 150u IPv6 2002712 0t0 UDP *:33848 I don't know what I can verify. • Can't logging in file from tomcat6 with log4j

    - by Ivan Nakov
    I have one stupid problem, which is killing me from hours. I'm trying to configure loggin to my project. I started with a simple Spring MVC project generated by STS, then added org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender to the existing log4j.xml file. <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?> <!-- Appenders --> <appender name="console" class="org.apache.log4j.ConsoleAppender"> <param name="Target" value="System.out" /> <layout class="org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout"> <param name="ConversionPattern" value="%-5p: %c - %m%n" /> </layout> </appender> <appender name="FilleAppender" class="org.apache.log4j.RollingFileAppender"> <param name="maxFileSize" value="100KB" /> <param name="maxBackupIndex" value="2" /> <param name="File" value="/home/ivan/Desktop/app.log" /> <layout class="org.apache.log4j.PatternLayout"> <param name="ConversionPattern" value="%d{ABSOLUTE} %5p %c{1}: %m%n " /> </layout> </appender> <!-- Application Loggers --> <logger name="org.elsys.logger"> <level value="debug" /> </logger> <!-- 3rdparty Loggers --> <logger name="org.springframework.core"> <level value="info" /> </logger> <logger name="org.springframework.beans"> <level value="info" /> </logger> <logger name="org.springframework.context"> <level value="info" /> </logger> <logger name="org.springframework.web"> <level value="info" /> </logger> <!-- Root Logger --> <root> <priority value="debug" /> <appender-ref ref="FilleAppender" /> </root> When I deploy project to tomcat6 server and open the url, logger doesn't generate log file. I'm trying to log from this controller: @Controller public class HomeController { private static final Logger logger = LoggerFactory.getLogger(HomeController.class); /** * Simply selects the home view to render by returning its name. */ @RequestMapping(value = "/", method = RequestMethod.GET) public String home(Locale locale, Model model) { logger.info("Welcome home! the client locale is "+ locale.toString()); Date date = new Date(); DateFormat dateFormat = DateFormat.getDateTimeInstance(DateFormat.LONG, DateFormat.LONG, locale); String formattedDate = dateFormat.format(date); logger.debug("send view"); model.addAttribute("serverTime", formattedDate ); return "home"; } } When I log from this simple Main.class, it works correct. public class Main { public static void main(String[] args) { Logger log = LoggerFactory.getLogger(Main.class); log.debug("Test"); } } I'm using tomcat6 and Ubuntu 11.10. I made a research in net and i found various options to fix this problem, but they don't help me. Please if someone have ideas how to fix it, help me.

  • Choice and setup of version control

    - by Peter M
    I am about to set up an new laptop and in the process transition to a new version control system as part of a general cleanup. Currently I use a centralized version control system (yes it is VSS, and yes I know all the pro's and con's of that system, but as a single user system it works well for me). I have very little requirements for a new system and I am free to choose among any of the current mainstream players, but cost constraints will push me towards oss. Some of my requirements are: Runs on a single machine (ie the laptop in question) under windows I am not sharing things with other developers or workers - this is more for my own historical benefits. I want to version source code, documentation and binary files I have a large hierarchy of projects that are unrelated (see below) I have files within the hierarchy that don't need to be controlled (but could be) Some projects use Visual Studio, so some integration there could be nice. There could be some sharing of files between jobs. I generally only need a small about of branching in code files The directory hierarchy that I have at the moment is somewhat like: Root | |--Customer #1 | | | |--Job #1 | | | | | |--Data files received from Customer for Job (not controlled) | | |--Documentation files (controlled) | | |--Project information files (not controlled - but could be) | | |--Software Project Files (controlled) | | |--Scratch dir for job (not controlled) | | | |--Job #2 | | (same structure as above) | |--Customer #2 | |.. | |--Cusmtomer #n |.. Currently I have about 22 customers with differing numbers of projects underneath them. At the moment I have a single VSS repository based at the root of the directory structure. If I kept with a centralized system (ie SVN) I believe that I should keep the same approach and continue with a single repository based from the root dir. Is this a valid approach? However if I move to a distributed tool then I am unsure of how I should handle the situation. My initial guess is that I should not have a repository based on the root of my entire directory structure - but that is a guess so I really don't know how valid it is. Should I pitch a distributed approach at the Root, Customer, Job or sub-Job directory level? Also what I am not clear on with distributed tools (and perhaps with SVN as well), is if I can branch parts of a repository. For example, I can see branching source code in software projects as being useful, but branching my documentation as not being useful. So if I pitch a repository at the Job level, can I just branch the Software Project Files? Or would all files in that Job be branched? Every time I look at distributed tools I get a nagging feeling that they are not suited to my style of setup. I am uncomfortable with idea of having to manually set up something like 50 to 80 separate repositories (if I pitch at the Job level, or 20+ if at the Customer level) within my directory hierarchy. This feeling also extends to having all those repositories scattered around as well - however I do have a backup strategy that I trust, so this latter feeling is pretty well unfounded. So what advice can you all give me? Thanks in advance!
