  • log4net - why would the same MyLog.Debug line not work at one point of startup, but work at another

    - by Greg
    Hi, During startup of my WinForms application I'm noting that there are a couple of points (before the MainForm renders) that do a "MyDataSet.GetInstance()". For the first one the MyLog.Debug line comes through in the VS2008 output window, but for a later one it does work and come through. What could explain this? What settings could I check at debug time to see why an output line for a MyLog.Debug line doesn't come out in the output window? namespace IntranetSync { public class MyDataSet { private static readonly ILog MyLog = LogManager.GetLogger(typeof(MyDataSet)); public static MyDataSet GetInstance() { MyLog.Debug("MyDataSet GetInstance() ====================================="); if (myDataSet == null) { myDataSet = new MyDataSet(); } return myDataSet; } . . . PS. What I have been doing re log4net repository initialization is putting the following line as a private variables in the classes I use logging - is this OK? static class Program { private static readonly ILog MyLog = LogManager.GetLogger(typeof(MainForm)); . . . public class Coordinator { private static readonly ILog MyLog = LogManager.GetLogger(typeof(MainForm)); . . . public class MyDataSet { private static readonly ILog MyLog = LogManager.GetLogger(typeof(MyDataSet)); . . .

  • AudioRecord problems with non-HTC devices

    - by Marc
    I'm having troubles using AudioRecord. An example using some of the code derived from the splmeter project: private static final int FREQUENCY = 8000; private static final int CHANNEL = AudioFormat.CHANNEL_CONFIGURATION_MONO; private static final int ENCODING = AudioFormat.ENCODING_PCM_16BIT; private int BUFFSIZE = 50; private AudioRecord recordInstance = null; ... android.os.Process.setThreadPriority(android.os.Process.THREAD_PRIORITY_URGENT_AUDIO); recordInstance = new AudioRecord(MediaRecorder.AudioSource.MIC, FREQUENCY, CHANNEL, ENCODING, 8000); recordInstance.startRecording(); short[] tempBuffer = new short[BUFFSIZE]; int retval = 0; while (this.isRunning) { for (int i = 0; i < BUFFSIZE - 1; i++) { tempBuffer[i] = 0; } retval = recordInstance.read(tempBuffer, 0, BUFFSIZE); ... // process the data } This works on the HTC Dream and the HTC Magic perfectly without any log warnings/errors, but causes problems on the emulators and Nexus One device. On the Nexus one, it simply never returns useful data. I cannot provide any other useful information as I'm having a remote friend do the testing. On the emulators (Android 1.5, 2.1 and 2.2), I get weird errors from the AudioFlinger and Buffer overflows with the AudioRecordThread. I also get a major slowdown in UI responsiveness (even though the recording takes place in a separate thread than the UI). Is there something apparent that I'm doing incorrectly? Do I have to do anything special for the Nexus One hardware?

    Hi everyone, My data is an xml element & I want send PUT request with JavaScript. How do I do this ? For reference : Update Cell As per fredrik suggested, I did this : function submit(){ var xml = "<entry>" + "<id>https://spreadsheets.google.com/feeds/cells/0Aq69FHX3TV4ndDBDVFFETUFhamc5S25rdkNoRkd4WXc/od6/private/full/R2C1</id>" + "<link rel=\"edit\" type=\"application/atom+xml\"" + "href=\"https://spreadsheets.google.com/feeds/cells/0Aq69FHX3TV4ndDBDVFFETUFhamc5S25rdkNoRkd4WXc/worksheetId/private/full/R2C1\"/>" + "<gs:cell row=\"2\" col=\"1\" inputValue=\"300\"/>" + "</entry>"; document.getElementById('submitForm').submit(xml); } </script> </head> <body> <form id="submitForm" method="put" action="https://spreadsheets.google.com/feeds/cells/0Aq69FHX3TV4ndDBDVFFETUFhamc5S25rdkNoRkd4WXc/od6/private/full/R2C1"> <input type="submit" value="submit" onclick="submit()"/> </form> However, it doesn't write back but positively it returns xml file like : <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> <entry xmlns='http://www.w3.org/2005/Atom' xmlns:gs='http://schemas.google.com/spreadsheets/2006' xmlns:batch='http://schemas.google.com/gdata/batch'> <id>https://spreadsheets.google.com/feeds/cells/0Aq69FHX3TV4ndDBDVFFETUFhamc5S25rdkNoRkd4WXc/od6/private/full/R2C1</id> <updated>2011-01-11T07:35:09.767Z</updated> <category scheme='http://schemas.google.com/spreadsheets/2006' term='http://schemas.google.com/spreadsheets/2006#cell'/> <title type='text'>A2</title> <content type='text'></content> <link rel='self' type='application/atom+xml' href='https://spreadsheets.google.com/feeds/cells/0Aq69FHX3TV4ndDBDVFFETUFhamc5S25rdkNoRkd4WXc/od6/private/full/R2C1'/> <link rel='edit' type='application/atom+xml' href='https://spreadsheets.google.com/feeds/cells/0Aq69FHX3TV4ndDBDVFFETUFhamc5S25rdkNoRkd4WXc/od6/private/full/R2C1/1ekg'/> <gs:cell row='2' col='1' inputValue=''></gs:cell> </entry> Any further solution for the same ?

    Basically I'm getting a strange issue with my Android application, it's supposed to grab a JSON Array and print out some values, the class looks like this: ShowComedianActivity.class package com.example.connecttest; public class ShowComedianActivity extends Activity{ TextView name; TextView add; TextView email; TextView tel; String id; // Progress Dialog private ProgressDialog pDialog; //JSON Parser class JSONParser jsonParser = new JSONParser(); // Single Comedian url private static final String url_comedian_details = "http://86.9.71.17/connect/get_comedian_details.php"; // JSON Node names private static final String TAG_SUCCESS = "success"; private static final String TAG_COMEDIAN = "comedian"; private static final String TAG_ID = "id"; private static final String TAG_NAME = "name"; private static final String TAG_ADDRESS = "address"; private static final String TAG_EMAIL = "email"; private static final String TAG_TEL = "tel"; public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState){ super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.show_comedian); // Getting Comedian Details from intent Intent i = getIntent(); // Getting id from intent id = i.getStringExtra(TAG_ID); new GetComedianDetails().execute(); } class GetComedianDetails extends AsyncTask<String, String, String>{ protected void onPreExecute(){ super.onPreExecute(); pDialog = new ProgressDialog(ShowComedianActivity.this); pDialog.setMessage("Fetching Comedian details. • how to update an Android ListActivity on changing data of the connected SimpleCursorAdapter

    - by 4485670
    I have the following code. What I want to achieve is to update the shown list when I click an entry so I can traverse through the list. I found the two uncommented ways to do it here on stackoverflow, but neither works. I also got the advice to create a new ListActivity on the data update, but that sounds like wasting resources? EDIT: I found the solution myself. All you need to do is call "SimpleCursorAdapter.changeCursor(new Cursor);". No notifying, no things in UI-Thread or whatever. import android.app.ListActivity; import android.database.Cursor; import android.os.Bundle; import android.util.Log; import android.view.View; import android.widget.ListView; import android.widget.SimpleCursorAdapter; public class MyActivity extends ListActivity { private DepartmentDbAdapter mDbHelper; private Cursor cursor; private String[] from = new String[] { DepartmentDbAdapter.KEY_NAME }; private int[] to = new int[] { R.id.text1 }; private SimpleCursorAdapter notes; @Override public void onCreate(Bundle savedInstanceState) { super.onCreate(savedInstanceState); setContentView(R.layout.departments_list); mDbHelper = new DepartmentDbAdapter(this); mDbHelper.open(); // Get all of the departments from the database and create the item list cursor = mDbHelper.fetchSubItemByParentId(1); this.startManagingCursor(cursor); // Now create an array adapter and set it to display using our row notes = new SimpleCursorAdapter(this, R.layout.department_row, cursor, from, to); this.setListAdapter(notes); } @Override protected void onListItemClick(ListView l, View v, int position, long id) { super.onListItemClick(l, v, position, id); // get new data and update the list this.updateData(safeLongToInt(id)); } /** * update data for the list * * @param int departmentId id of the parent department */ private void updateData(int departmentId) { // close the old one, get a new one cursor.close(); cursor = mDbHelper.fetchSubItemByParentId(departmentId); // change the cursor of the adapter to the new one notes.changeCursor(cursor); } /** * safely convert long to in to save memory * * @param long l the long variable * * @return integer */ public static int safeLongToInt(long l) { if (l < Integer.MIN_VALUE || l > Integer.MAX_VALUE) { throw new IllegalArgumentException (l + " cannot be cast to int without changing its value."); } return (int) l; } }

  • How to let users post links/images to Facebook, Twitter, Buzz etc... from a Rails based website?

    - by wgpubs
    I'd like to offer users the ability to post images / links to articles from my web application to Facebook, Twitter, Buzz and any other social network. A perfect example of the functionality I'm trying to replicate is mashable.com ... where each social network is represented by an icon that a) shows the number of shares AND b) allows users to click on it to post to that specific network. Don't know if it matters ... but the site is built using RoR. Thanks

  • What if a large number of objects are passed to my SwingWorker.process() method?

    - by Trejkaz
    I just found an interesting situation. Suppose you have some SwingWorker (I've made this one vaguely reminiscent of my own): public class AddressTreeBuildingWorker extends SwingWorker<Void, NodePair> { private DefaultTreeModel model; public AddressTreeBuildingWorker(DefaultTreeModel model) { } @Override protected Void doInBackground() { // Omitted; performs variable processing to build a tree of address nodes. } @Override protected void process(List<NodePair> chunks) { for (NodePair pair : chunks) { // Actually the real thing inserts in order. model.insertNodeInto(parent, child, parent.getChildCount()); } } private static class NodePair { private final DefaultMutableTreeNode parent; private final DefaultMutableTreeNode child; private NodePair(DefaultMutableTreeNode parent, DefaultMutableTreeNode child) { this.parent = parent; this.child = child; } } } If the work done in the background is significant then things work well - process() is called with relatively small lists of objects and everything is happy. Problem is, if the work done in the background is suddenly insignificant for whatever reason, process() receives a huge list of objects (I have seen 1,000,000, for instance) and by the time you process each object, you have spent 20 seconds on the Event Dispatch Thread, exactly what SwingWorker was designed to avoid. In case it isn't clear, both of these occur on the same SwingWorker class for me - it depends on the input data, and the type of processing the caller wanted. Is there a proper way to handle this? Obviously I can intentionally delay or yield the background processing thread so that a smaller number might arrive each time, but this doesn't feel like the right solution to me.

  • jaxb unmarshal problem

    - by Hoax
    private JAXBContext jaxbContext; private Marshaller marshaller; private Unmarshaller unmarshaller; private PoiList db; public XMLHandler() { try { JAXBContext.newInstance("x.y.shared"); } catch (JAXBException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } } public PoiList readXML() { try { unmarshaller = jaxbContext.createUnmarshaller(); unmarshaller.setEventHandler(new XMLValidEventHandler()); db = (PoiList) unmarshaller.unmarshal(new File("src/source.xml")); } catch (JAXBException e) { e.printStackTrace(); } return db; } gets me this Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException at com.sem.server.XMLHandler.readXML(XMLHandler.java:32) at sem.server.testDataAPI.main(testDataAPI.java:13) Line 32 in this case is the jaxbContext.createUnmarshaller() Line. packages are x.y.client x.y.server (includes the XMLHandler) x.y.shared (includes jaxb generated classes) not really sure what the problem is. any help is appreciated!

  • Running Python code from Java program, shoudl i be doing this?

    - by Space Rocker
    i have a scenario where i draw a network and set all it's paraments on swing based gui, after that i have to translate this network into a python based script which another framework reads and realize this network in the form of virtual machines. As an example have look here: from mininet.topo import Topo, Node class MyTopo( Topo ): def *__init__*( self, enable_all = True ): super( MyTopo, self ).__init__() Host = 1 Switch = 2 self.add_node( Switch, Node( is_switch=True ) ) self.add_node( Host, Node( is_switch=False ) ) self.add_edge( Host, Switch ) self.enable_all() topos = { 'mytopo': ( lambda: MyTopo() ) } It simply connects a host to a switch and realize this topology on mininet framework. Now for now in order to realize the drawn network on java GUI here is what i am doing: I simply take the information from GUI and creates a new python file like the one above using java code and then run this file in mininet, which works fine somehow. I want to know, is this the correct and robust way how i am doing this or should i be looking further into java-python bridge like scenarios to be more effective or so as to say more professional.

  • Creating a generic NotFound View in ASP.MVC

    - by George
    Hello guys, I'm having a problem to create a generic View to represent NotFound pages. The view is created and it's fine. I need to know how i can direct the user to the NotFound view in my Controllers and how to render a specific "Return to Index" in each controller. Here is some code: public class NotFoundModel { private string _contentName; private string _notFoundTitle; private string _apologiesMessage; public string ContentName { get; private set; } public string NotFoundTitle { get; private set; } public string ApologiesMessage { get; private set; } public NotFoundModel(string contentName, string notFoundTitle, string apologiesMessage) { this._contentName = contentName; this._notFoundTitle = notFoundTitle; this._apologiesMessage = apologiesMessage; } } // NotFound View <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/Views/Shared/Site.Master" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage<Geographika.Models.NotFoundModel>" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="TitleContent" runat="server"> <%= Html.Encode(Model.ContentName) %> </asp:Content> <asp:Content ID="Content2" ContentPlaceHolderID="MainContent" runat="server"> <h2><%= Html.Encode(Model.NotFoundTitle) %></h2> <p><%= Html.Encode(Model.ApologiesMessage) %></p> <!-- How can i render here a specific "BackToIndexView", but that it's not bound to my NotFoundModel? --> </asp:Content> // Controller piece of code // // GET: /Term/Details/2 public ActionResult Details(int id) { Term term = termRepository.SingleOrDefault(t => t.TermId == id); if (term == null) return View("NotFound"); // how can i return the specific view that its not bound to Term Model? // the idea here would be something like: // return View("NotFound",new NotFoundModel("a","b","c")); else return View("Details", term); } I'm not sure how to redirect to a whole different page. Can anyone give me any pointers? Thanks

  • Is this WPF error handling a good idea ?

    - by Adiel
    I have a multi threaded wpf application with various HW interfaces. I want to react to several HW failures that can happen. For example : one of the interfaces is a temperature sensor and i want that from a certain temp. a meesage would appear and notify the user that it happened. i came up with the follwing design : /// <summary> /// This logic reacts to errors that occur during the system run. /// The reaction is set by the component that raised the error. /// </summary> public class ErrorHandlingLogic : Logic { } the above class would consume ErrorEventData that holds all the information about the error that occurred. public class ErrorEventData : IEventData { #region public enum public enum ErrorReaction { } #endregion public enum #region Private Data Memebers and props private ErrorReaction m_ErrorReaction; public ErrorReaction ErrorReactionValue { get { return m_ErrorReaction; } set { m_ErrorReaction = value; } } private string m_Msg; public string Msg { get { return m_Msg; } set { m_Msg = value; } } private string m_ComponentName; public string ComponentName { get { return m_ComponentName; } set { m_ComponentName = value; } } #endregion Private Data Memebers and props public ErrorEventData(ErrorReaction reaction, string msg, string componenetName) { m_ErrorReaction = reaction; m_Msg = msg; m_ComponentName = componenetName; } } the above ErrorHandlingLogic would decide what to do with the ErrorEventData sent to him from various components of the application. if needed it would be forwarded to the GUI to display a message to the user. so what do you think is it a good design ? thanks, Adiel.
