  • Which tool can tidy/indent HTML5?

    - by user2534
I've already spent about 2 hours searching google and trying various tools but either they don't do indent tags per say or they aren't HTML5 compatible such as the famous HTML tidy which was last updated 3 years ago… N.B. I don't want to apply this to the source of a page (like PHP or JS would do) but to the code in the editor so that a clear hierarchy appears between tags. Ideally I'd like a Mac OS X tool but I'll take any online tool and in last resot a Wine compatible one. P.S. at the moment I use Coda from Panic

  • web (server) based password manager

    - by laurens
Hi all! I know there have been a few topics here about password managers but I read them all and did not really find what I'm looking for. What I'd need is a free or cheap (most password mgr software is $500 for 20+ users, exaggerated!) multi-user password manager, highly preferable web-based so that we can host it on one of our local server, of Hyper-V VM's. So: -free or cheap ( <100$) -multi-user of groups -web based -not very hard to install I tried a few, one very expensive, one I did not get to work- Web Keepass Manager This works with tomcat and probably conflicts with our IIS 7.0 or 7.5 PS: thus, nothing online (!) it has to stay local Thanks in advance!

  • Cryptswap not mounted?

I believe i have my swap set up but am not sure because on start up it says that it is something along the lines of "could not mount /dev/mapper/cryptswap1 M for manual S for skip". • Microsoft Lowers Cloud Barrier To Entry

    - by Herve Roggero
Once in a while, the technology stack changes enough to create a disturbance in the IT industry. Microsoft did just that today and has officially closed the gap with its #1 competitor: Amazon. What is remarkable is that Microsoft is no longer an alternative to Amazon, it is becoming a clear leader in that space. Some of the new features include official support for durable Virtual Machines with high availability (cross-geographic replication), free WebSites to try Azure, MySQL database at no charge, a new distributed low-latency cache feature, Linux support, support with existing VPN hardware for seamless on-premise integration, a new partner ecosystem and much, much more. Amazon had an edge against Windows Azure in the IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service) space, until now. With the latest release from Microsoft Azure, the gap has been filled. In fact, it seems Amazon may now have a gap to fill… This is great news to everyone; it seems that cloud offerings are becoming more standardized with the more mature cloud providers, and the management stack and quality of service of each cloud provider is increasingly becoming the differentiator. With today’s announcements, it is becoming clear that cloud providers are pushing hard to increase their service footprint and lowering typical barriers to entry such as support for open-source operating systems, free trial offers, higher availability, faster deployment times and simpler enterprise integration.

  • Advantages of not Javascript/HTML/CSS for front-end web development?

    - by user2202911
So I've recently been getting into front-end web development from an embedded systems background and have always thought Javascript/HTML/CSS are not only the de-facto standards but the ONLY tools for the job, similar to what C is for embedded systems. Recently, I've stumbled upon things like Dreamweaver, JSP, facelets, and GWT. While researching these to find out if they are worth learning, I can't get over the idea of why someone wouldn't just use Javascript/HTML/CSS instead. Why deviate from the defacto standards?

  • How to reduce disk thrashing (paging)?

    - by skevar7
I have 4 GB of RAM, but Windows still thrashes disk sometimes (especially often when an application is minimized for some time and then I activate it again). Completely stupid, because Task Manager shows 2 GB of RAM are free. Is there any way to prevent Windows swapping out program memory? I tried setting Superfetch to cache startup files only (it helped a bit) and turning off paging file (it helped much, and worked well for me in Windows XP; but Windows Vista/Windows 7 don't allow that - it shows "low on memory" message frequently, even when I have 1 GB of RAM free.) What can you advise me to do?

  • Using a PowerShell Script to delete old files for SQL Server

Many clients are using custom stored procedures or third party tools to backup databases in production environments instead of using database maintenance plans. One of the things that you need to do is to maintain the number of backup files that exist on disk, so you don't run out of disk space. There are several techniques for deleting old files, but in this tip I show how this can be done using PowerShell.

  • LINQPad still being used much out there?

    - by CoffeeAddict
I'm trying to guage how popular and how used LINQPad is today. I'm just wondering if it's still a useful tool or not as VS and other tools have gotten better. Furthermore, I am coding over LLBGen by working with LINQ to SQL. I see there is a plug-in for LLBGen and LINQPad. Still I wonder if LINQPad is really worth it or what benefits it can give me or if it's still highly suggested out there for ORMs, etc.

  • New: Online NetBeans 8 Crash Course

    - by Geertjan
On Twitter today I came across an announcement for a brand new on-line course in NetBeans 8. Since NetBeans 8 has been released during the past few months, the course is really very new. Go here to get there directly: https://www.video2brain.com/de/videotraining/netbeans-ide-8-0-crashkurs Here's the general idea. As you can see, the course is in German. With my basic understanding of German, I've had no problem in following the course. The trainer speaks clearly and slowly and everything is very well structured. The course covers all the basics of NetBeans IDE. From getting set up to using all the key features. The quality of the videos is great and the content is clear and informative. Once you've bought the course, all the lessons are unlocked. As you can see, they're all quite short and there's really a lot of content, didn't all fit into the screenshot: Quite some work must have gone into this. Here's one of the free lessons in the course, to give an idea of what you'll get: https://www.video2brain.com/de/tutorial/texte-internationalisieren This one is also free: https://www.video2brain.com/de/tutorial/eclipse-projekt-importieren I highly recommend this course especially if you're switching, or thinking about switching, from a different IDE and want to get a thorough overview of all the features that NetBeans IDE provides. Everything in the course is done within NetBeans, which means no slides, just code. You get to see the workflow of all the standard tasks and, for these purposes, the course does a really great job.

  • What software is available to keep track of hundreds of servers?

    - by djangofan
What good software is available (free or not free) to help me keep track of information relating to hundreds of servers, their relationships to each other (parent/child, category, type), and information on connecting to them, as well as possibly showing a picture or grid of some kind that allows me to report these relationships and key information to my supervisor. I am trying to avoid the "spreadsheet solution" or "visio solution" because I want to share this information and make changes with other persons in my server team. In other words, the solution I am looking for is a cross between a spreadsheet solution and a visio solution, providing both graphing and configuration information WITHOUT monitoring, and in a consistent format.

  • debian dependencies (libssl-dev and libncurses5)

    - by RubyFreak
I'm trying to install under RVM the Ruby Enterpise (REE) under debian My debian is squeeze (uname -r) 2.6.18-194.26.1.el5.028stab070.14xen i did try to install ree but it complains that it is missing libssl-dev and libreadline5-dev. I did update my lenny to squeeze, but i didn't update the kernel, since its a production server. The operational system is already updated and upgraded sources.list: deb http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free deb-src http://ftp.de.debian.org/debian/ squeeze main contrib non-free deb http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main deb-src http://security.debian.org/ squeeze/updates main I did try to install it using the following command: apt-get install libssl-dev libreadline5-dev But unfortunately i'm getting the following problems: The following packages have unmet dependencies: libreadline5-dev: Depends: libncurses5-dev but it is not going to be installed libssl-dev: Depends: libssl0.9.8 (= 0.9.8o-4squeeze1) but 0.9.8o-6 is to be installed E: Broken packages I was thinking to reinstall those packages and install again, but it has too many dependencies, and it is a production server, that i would like to know if there is any other way to fix it. Or at least to double check if it is necessary to reinstall both :-/

  • Oracle Enterprise Data Quality: A Leader in Customer Satisfaction

    - by Mala Narasimharajan
It’s always good to hear feedback from practitioners – the ones who are in the trenches who have experienced both the good and the bad sides of enterprise software.   Gartner recently released a report which surveyed 260 data quality professionals from around the world and found that most expressed considerable satisfaction as a whole from their data quality tool vendors.  However, a couple of key findings stand out which include, Datanomic (acquired by Oracle), leading the pack in terms of overall customer satisfaction among data quality tools.  Read all about it right here http://bit.ly/Ay45SG

  • Perl like regular expression in Oracle DB

    - by user13136722
There's regular expression support in Oracle DB Using Regular Expressions in Database Applications Oracle SQL PERL-Influenced Extensions to POSIX Standard But '\b' is not supported which I believe is quite wideliy used in perl and/or other tools perlre - perldoc.perl.org \b Match a word boundary So, I experimented with '\W' which is non-"word" character When combined with beginning-of-line and end-of-line like below, I think it works exactly the same as '\b' SELECT * FROM TAB1 WHERE regexp_like(TEXTCOL1, '(^|\W)a_word($|\W)', 'i')

  • Reclaiming deleted disk space from file vault

    - by cbrulak
I have my main user account encrypted with file vault. After deleting some data (like 20 GB) my free space on the hard drive hasn't change (yes I emptied the trash, confirmed that the files are actually gone, etc, etc). I also tried "erasing free space" in the disk utility app. I logged off, and rebooted and so far that space hasn't been reclaimed. I'm assuming file vault or disk utility has some method of reclaiming but I can't find it. Any ideas?
