  • Can Android OS be programmed to interface with a external device via the mini-USB port?

    - by user322865
Basic example, if I bought a chipset with a light socket and bulb soldered to the chipset; then put a USB cable with the mini-USB plug on the end to get plugged into the android phone. Can I write a Java application to turn on/off the light, get the status of the light(on/off) and maybe power a super-small led/bulb with power from the phone itself? Any insight at all would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

  • Turning a refresh ImageView into a ProgressBar

    - by Macarse
I am doing a custom title for my android app and I want to have a refresh button like the Twitter app. I am using a RelativeLayout an my ImageView is defined by: <ImageView android:id="@+id/title_refresh" android:layout_width="wrap_content" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:src="@drawable/ic_menu_refresh" android:layout_alignParentRight="true"> </ImageView> In my Activity I have something like this: refreshView = (ImageView) findViewById(R.id.title_refresh); refreshView.setOnClickListener(new OnClickListener() { @Override public void onClick(View v) { /* Make the refreshView turn into a progress bar. */ startService(new Intent(MyActivity.this, MyService.class)); } } I would like the ImageView to turn into a ProgressBar while I wait for my service to finish processing. How is the correct way to do this?

  • No pre-built ActionBar for Android pre-3.0?

    - by Ollie C
I note the release a few days ago of the static library bringing fragments to Android versions prior to 3.0, but does this library include the ActionBar? I suspect not. I assume that for an app that will work on pre-3.0 versions, that it needs a hand-built ActionBar implementation for versions up to 2.3 and then to use the OS default ActionBar in v3.0? for some reason I assumed the library had ActionBar in it, but as I dig further I'm not finding any evidence of its presence.

  • Turn Bluetooth On and Off in Andriod 1.5 (SDK level 3)?

    - by pcm2a
There are tons of pay and free bluetooth toggles on the market that work with Android 1.5 (SDK level 3). The problem is there is no visible API for this! Does anyone have any working code snippits on how to enable and disable bluetooth that works on Android 1.5? I assume you must have to use some kind of reflection for it. There are some examples over on anddev.org, but they only work with Android 1.1 or lower. This is for Android 1.5 (SDK level 3) and not Android 2.0 or greater. In Android 2.0 or later Google added easy to use APIs.

  • How to parse responses from a Django server in android?

    - by primal
Hi, In the Android application I am building, I want to be able to communicate with a local server developed in Django. (Basically a login page and a home page populated with posts and images from users) So do I need to use XML Parsers for the parsing the response from a Django server or is it possible for the server to respond with strings which can be directly used? Also what about images? Regards, Primal

  • How to use files/streams as source/sink in PulseAudio

    - by Nilesh
I'm a PulseAudio noob, and I'm not sure if I'm even using the correct terminology. I've seen that PulseAudio can perform echo cancellation, but it needs a source and a sink to filter from, and a new source and sink. I can provide my mic and my audio-out as the source and sink, right? Now, here's my situation: I have two video streams, say, rtmp streams, or consider two flv files, say at any given moment, stream X is the input stream that's coming from another computer's webcam+mic and stream Y is the output stream that I'm sending, (and it's coming from my computer's webcam+mic). Question: Back to the first paragraph - here's the thing, I don't want to use my mic and my audio-out, instead, I want to use these two "input" and "output" streams as my source and sink so to speak (of course, I'll use xuggler maybe, to extract just the audio from X and Y). It may be a strange question, and I have my reasons for doing this strange this - I need to experiment and verify the results to see.

  • Permission errors when cropping after taking a photo

    - by CGM
Hello everybody, I want to take a photo with an Intent on android.provider.MediaStore.ACTION_IMAGE_CAPTURE, next crop the result with: Intent intent = new Intent("com.android.camera.action.CROP"); intent.setClassName("com.android.camera", "com.android.camera.CropImage"); I follow the sugestions made at: Android: Crop an Image after Taking it With Camera with a Fixed Aspect Ratio However when calling the crop activity I get (already checked the LogCat output) a permission error, saying something like: Permission denial on a Intent to access the temporary image created by the camera activity on my SDcard. Can you please suggest a solution for Android 2.2 ? Thank you

  • Simple and efficient distribution of C++/Boost source code (amalgamation)

    - by Arrieta
Hello: My job mostly consists of engineering analysis, but I find myself distributing code more and more frequently among my colleagues. A big pain is that not every user is proficient in the intricacies of compiling source code, and I cannot distribute executables. I've been working with C++ using Boost, and the problem is that I cannot request every sysadmin of every network to install the libraries. Instead, I want to distribute a single source file (or as few as possible) so that the user can g++ source.c -o program. So, the question is: can you pack the Boost libraries with your code, and end up with a single file? I am talking about the Boost libraries which are "headers only" or "templates only". As an inspiration, please look at the distribution of SQlite or the Lemon Parser Generator; the author amalgamates the stuff into a single source file which is trivial to compile. Thank you.
