My computer stays off when the power goes off. I want to change the BIOS setting so that it turns on after the power comes back on.
Can I change that from within Windows?
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate (w/ SP1), and have multiple UI languages installed - mainly for screenshots etc. Among them are Chinese (traditional) and Chinese (Simplified), which insist on hooking the CTRL+Space key even though I have disabled / overridden these hotkey assignments under Language Bar settings / Advanced key settings.
(It conflicts with CTRL+Space in the Visual Studio IDE, and is pretty annoying beyond that.)
Any ideas?
Just installed Windows 7. After install everything was working fine until i noticed that i had no sound.
It is a AMD Athlon x64 Dual

Yamaha DS1 WDM
HD Audio Render
I tried finding the above drivers, but no luck.
I've been using itunes to stream music over lan, and quite frankly the quality is terrible. On the other hand, its ease of use - having a simple client on either end, and it just 'working' with full control on my end is nice- the quality however is terrible - I'm wondering if there's any controllable streaming remote music serve for windows that will let me pick the bitrate it sends at, or uses whatever bitrate the original file is in, and just sends it, and has itself controllable at the client end, and will work acceptably over a wlan connection
I have a program that automatically copies files to a directory, and if it creates a duplicate it will name it like so:
file with duplicate.xxx
file with duplicate - 1.xxx
file with duplicate - 2.xxx
I need a way to delete all the duplicates with a windows batch file.
Something along the lines of:
FOR %f IN (C:\files\*.*) DO del "%f - 1"
However, that will not work because that would resolve to file with duplicate - 1.xxx - 1
Physical memory(MB) for Windows 7
Total 4021
Cached 1113
Available 768
Free 174
Memory used 3.25GB
At this point, windows7 asks me to close some programs because "system memory is low".
From my understanding reading articles, I still have 768 MB free memory, why does windows7 complain?
Also what does Cached memory refer to? Is this part of memory that Windows7 reserved for itself meaning it's free to use by Windows7 (and means I have about 768 + 1113 MB of free mem?)?
Hi,
I am trying to set up command-line access for my windows machine to a svn respository on a Unix box. The guides online all have the keypair method of accessing the repository. However, I don't personally like storing my keypairs, so I'm trying to figure out how to do this.
Thoughts? Suggestions?
I am trying to implement winexit.scr in a windows terminal server. I want force logoff all "domain\domain users" from this server after 10 minutes through this. All these users along with domain admins login to this terminal server via Remote Desktop. I want to force logoff only for "domain\domain users" not for administrators and domain admin.
I have tried the solutions provided in different sites..but it's logoff administrators also.
Please help..thanks upfront.
I'm trying to set up a sub domain for development on a windows server and am having problems setting the correct details in the httpd.ini file and hoped someone could help.
I have set up the subdomain
http://dev.website.com
The files that I want to use for this subdomain are on the server in a folder called development
http://www.website.com/development
in the directory structure they are in
/htdocs/development
What do I need to add the the httpd.ini file to point the http://dev.website.com to the files located in the /htdocs/development folder on the server?
I have a problem in Adaptec 160m SCSI card connected to DELL Power Edge server, that it is often stops communicating. In windows system error I am able to see an error pointing to the SCSI driver continuously. The error says:
The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Scsi\adpu160m4.
For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.
Can anyone suggest me what to do to solve it?
What I seek is advice, or experience of, actually USING a Windows 7 Restore Point in ANGER.
I have created the restore points, can see them, and read the instructions. I also realize it won't harm my documents, but are there any pit-falls?
Actually the machine is a quiet, under-used with no recent program additions, so I don't anticipate any complications, nevertheless gotchas and tips are appreciated.
I'm trying to find the standard SoundFont used in WindowsXP's MIDI Wavetable Synthesizer.
I don't know if I get this right, but there seems to be a set of Roland Sound Canvas samples used in XP's wavetable synthesizer. I looked for a SoundFont based on these samples, but either there is none in my Windows installation, or the MIDI playback works in a different
way.
Anyone has an idea where to look for it?
on my windows 2003 server

Hi,
Does anyone know if there is a decent flat-rate backup service which supports Windows Server?
I've investigated the following:
Backblaze - no WS support, sales say they have a "no server" policy
JungleDisk - not flat rate
Mozy - no WS on regular edition, no flat-rate on Pro edition
Dropbox - no flat rate
Carbonite - technically flat rate, but throttles uploads to modem speeds
EDIT: Very similar question:
Is there a decent flat-rate online backup solution for Linux machines?
For a Windows domain, is there a way to see for a certain user or group, where the user/group has permissions?
Primarily: List which files / folders the user can access on a certain network share.
(Kind of a recursive "effective permissions")
However, other permissions would be cool as well.
I believe I've seen such a tool in action, but I can't remember anything beyond that - so this might be a false memory.
Recommendations?
hi there

I'd like to use the same index of images from Picasa under Windows and Linux (so that albums, tags, "uploaded" marks are in sync). Is it described anywhere and is it relatively safe to try? Or should I just keep separate indexes...
I am looking for a good DVD ripper software for Windows. Looking for something that will easily rip the raw bits DVD to hard drive without any loss of quality.
Looking for something that will easily copy the VOB files to a server location for use with the Window Media Center DVD Library feature.
I'm trying to connect from my Mac to a directory on a Windows server.
Here is what I'm doing from the finder :
menu Go->connect to server->smb://srv-fichiers1/Personnel/conujer
I get an error (error code -36).
But, from the finder window, if I click on Shared->All->srv-fichier1->Personnel->conujer, I have access to the directory.
I don't understand why I cannot connect straight to conujer.
