  • Load page for validation but do not display it to user in ASP.NET

    - by Kevin
    We have a site requiring users pay $2 to view the details of a record. We occasionally get complaints because we send them to the payment page, and once they pay it turns out the record isn't valid, or it was lost, or the data couldn't be generated. So we want to add in a check to ensure the page constructs properly before the user is required to pay for it. However, we don't want the user to have access to the page until they pay for it. Is there anything in ASP.NET 3.5 or just general web design that would allow something like this? The data on the record is real time and computed on a backend server before sent to the client. Occasionally this computation fails for whatever reason. Our alternative is to call all of the loading methods and validate the data, then redirect them to the payment page. The problem is A) this will be a relatively involved process rewriting all of these methods to return validation information, and B) it still doesn't guarentee us the page will load properly. Any thoughts?

  • Dividing a 9x9 2d array into 9 sub-grids (like in sudoku)? (C++)

    - by kevin
    I'm trying to code a sudoku solver, and the way I attempted to do so was to have a 9x9 grid of pointers that hold the address of "set" objects that posses either the solution or valid possible values. I was able to go through the array with 2 for loops, through each column first and then going to the next row and repeating. However, I'm having a hard time imagining how I would designate which sub-grid (or box, block etc) a specific cell belongs to. My initial impression was to have if statements in the for loops, such as if row < 2 (rows start at 0) & col < 2 then we're in the 1st block, but that seems to get messy. Would there be a better way of doing this?

  • Finding files with bash and copy to another location and reducing depth of folders

    - by Kevin F
    I'm trying to recover a mates hard drive, there is no structure what so ever so music and images are everywhere but in named folders sometimes 5 folders deep, I've managed to write a one-liner that finds the files and copies them to a mounted drive but it preserves the file structure completely. What I'm after is a bit of code that searches the drive and copies to another location and copies just the parent folder with the mp3/jpg files within and not the complete path. The other issue I have is the music is /folder/folder/folder/Artist/1.mp3..2.mp3..10.mp3 etc etc so I have to preserve the folder 'Artist' to give him any hope of finding his tracks again. What I have working currently: find /media/HP/ -name *.mp3 -fprintf /media/HP/MUSIC/Script.sh 'mkdir -p "/media/HP/MUSIC/%h" \n cp "%h/%f" "/media/HP/MUSIC/%h/"\n' I then run the script.sh and it does all the copying. Many Thanks

  • How do I put all the types matching a particular C# interface in an IDictionary?

    - by Kevin Brassen
    I have a number of classes all in the same interface, all in the same assembly, all conforming to the same generic interface: public class AppleFactory : IFactory<Apple> { ... } public class BananaFactory : IFactory<Banana> { ... } // ... It's safe to assume that if we have an IFactory<T> for a particular T that it's the only one of that kind. (That is, there aren't two things that implement IFactory<Apple>.) I'd like to use reflection to get all these types, and then store them all in an IDictionary, where the key is typeof(T) and the value is the corresponding IFactory<T>. I imagine eventually we would wind up with something like this: _map = new Dictionary<Type, object>(); foreach(Type t in [...]) { object factoryForType = System.Reflection.[???](t); _map[t] = factoryForType; } What's the best way to do that? I'm having trouble seeing how I'd do that with the System.Reflection interfaces.

  • Permutation on Rails Routes

    - by Kevin Sylvestre
    I currently have an application that for a set of parameters (location, category, budget, ...) a user can enter a "pretty" URL like: /location/canada/ontario /category/primary /budget/small Resulting in the respective parameters: params[:country] == 'canada' and params[:region] == 'ontario' params[:category] == 'primary' params[:budget] == 'small' I want to allow users to perform searches on multiple parameters at once (with each parameter optional). For example: /location/canada/ontario/category/primary/budget/small I understand that this can be achieved using URL parameters, but for SEO reasons I prefer to add the "pretty" parameters. Is this at all possible without listing all possible combination of routes (I have a large number of search-able fields)? I understand that route "globbing" maybe play a roll, but I am not sure how. Thanks.

  • Msysgit bash is horrendously slow in Windows 7

    - by Kevin L.
    I love git and use it on OS X pretty much constantly at home. At work, we use svn on Windows, but want to migrate to git as soon as the tools have fully matured (not just TortoiseGit, but also something akin the really nice Visual Studio integration provided by VisualSVN). But I digress... I recently installed msysgit on my Windows 7 machine, and when using the included version of bash, it is horrendously slow. And not just the git operations; clear takes about five seconds. AAAAH! Has anyone experienced a similar issue? Edit: It appears that msysgit is not playing nicely with UAC and might just be a tiny design oversight resulting from developing on XP or running Vista or 7 with UAC disabled; starting Git Bash using Run as administrator results in the lightning speed I see with OS X (or on 7 after starting Git Bash w/o a network connection - see @Gauthier answer). Edit 2: AH HA! See my answer.

  • Registering Drupal Menu Paths?

    - by Kevin
    If I am making a module, and want to have two custom paths: path/path/path/index.htm (calls drupal_get_form) and post to path/path/path/result.htm How do you do that? I get a 404 on the second path. I get the form and what I want with the first path easily enough. All I want to do is theme the form results as a drupal table and display it here.

  • Setting Rails Checkbox from Another Model

    - by Kevin
    I have a checkbox that belongs to "Foo" class. I have another "Preferences" class that sets the default for what that checkbox should be. I tried using f.check_box :email_preference, :value => preferences.email_preference but it doesn't work. I use this page to do new record creation as well as edit, so obviously for new records I would want to take the preferences.email_preference setting as a default, then for editing the record use the foo.email_preference. Any suggestions?

  • Viable development for iPhone after 3.3.1 change?

    - by Kevin
    With the latest changes to the developer agreement by Apple, how inherant is the risk of using any kind of framework to develop Apps for devices now? Should shops risk using things like MonoTouch, Three20, Appcelerator since this change? • Getting Result of $q's Resolution or Rejection

    - by Kevin Meredith
    I'm looking at a $q example from Mastering Web Application Development with Angular. For this code, how can I retrieve the String result of pizzaOrderFulfillment.resolve(...) or pizzaOrderFulfillment.reject? var myApp = angular.module('myApp',[]); myApp.controller("MyCtrl", function ($scope, $q) { var Person = function(name) { this.eat = function(food) { return name + " is eating " + food; }; this.beHungry = function(reason) { return name + " is hungry because" + reason; }; }; // success var pizzaOrderFulfillment = $q.defer(); var pizzaDelivered = pizzaOrderFulfillment.promise; var man = new Person("man"); pizzaDelivered.then(man.eat, man.beHungry); pizzaOrderFulfillment.resolve("chicken"); // TODO: var successResult = "man is eating chicken" });

  • PHP: Adding text to a file

    - by Kevin Duke
    I'm trying to set up authentication on my server, however, I know little about Php. I have a php file filled with users and passwords: function getPassword( $user ) { // the user/password database. For very small groups // of users, you may just get away with expanding this // array. $passwords= array ( 'user1' => 'password1', 'user2' => 'password2', 'user3' => 'password3', 'user4' => 'password4' ); $password = $passwords[ $user ]; if ( NULL == $password ) return NULL; Without manually editing the array of passwords, I want a php file to read in user inputs for usernames and passwords and append it to the array. I have a vague idea of how this could work by looking up documentation: <?php function fwrite_stream($fp, $string) { $fp = fopen('shit.php', 'w'); for ($written = 0; $written < strlen($string); $written += $fwrite) { $fwrite = fwrite($fp, substr($string, $written)); if ($fwrite === false) { return $written; } } return $written; fclose($fp); } ?> How do I tell this to write to the array?

  • Java: How to I change the color of a specific line or row of string in a Text area?

    - by Kevin
    Hi all, the one way I could change the color is by setForground(). However when there are multiple lines of code it makes everything green or black. Is there another method or any way of solving this problem? Thanks! int key = evt.getKeyCode(); if (key == KeyEvent.VK_ENTER) { String tb1EnterdValue = tb1.getText().toString(); if((tb1EnterdValue.equals("yes")) ) { TextArea1.setForeground(Color.green); else { TextArea1.setForeground(Color.lightGray); } this.TextArea1.append(">"+tb1EnterdValue+newline); this.tb1.setText("");

  • SEO Language information

    - by Kevin
    I was wondering if defining your language in HTML is better for search enigines. For example, I've got a French site, then i've got three options: 1.) have faith that google can say my site is french 2.) define language in the HTML tag <html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml" dir="ltr" lang="fr"> 3.) define language in a meta tag <meta http-equiv="content-language" content="FR-fr" /> Which option you believe is best? Or which combination of options?

  • Preloading Image Bug in IE6-8

    - by Kevin C.
    Page in question: http://phwsinc.com/our-work/one-rincon-hill.asp In IE6-8, when you click the left-most thumbnail in the gallery, the image never loads. If you click the thumbnail a second time, then it will load. I'm using jQuery, and here's my code that's powering the gallery: $(document).ready(function() { // PROJECT PHOTO GALLERY var thumbs = $('.thumbs li a'); var photoWrapper = $('div.photoWrapper'); if (thumbs.length) { thumbs.click( function(){ photoWrapper.addClass('loading'); var img_src = $(this).attr('href'); // The two lines below are what cause the bug in IE. They make the gallery run much faster in other browsers, though. var new_img = new Image(); new_img.src = img_src; var photo = $('#photo'); photo.fadeOut('slow', function() { photo.attr('src', img_src); photo.load(function() { photoWrapper.removeClass('loading'); photo.fadeIn('slow'); }); }); return false; }); } }); A coworker told me that he's always had problems with the js Image() object, and advised me to just append an <img /> element inside of a div set to display:none;, but that's a little messy for my tastes--I liked using the Image() object, it kept things nice and clean, no unnecessary added HTML markup. Any help would be appreciated. It still works without the image preloading, so if all else fails I'll just wrap the preloading in an if !($.browser.msie){ } and call it a day.

  • Codeigniter: Controller URI with Library

    - by Kevin Brown
    I have a working controller and library function, but I now need to pass a URI segment to the library for decision making, and I'm stuck. Controller: function survey($method) { $id = $this->session->userdata('id'); $data['member'] = $this->home_model->getUser($id); //Convert the db Object to a row array $data['manager'] = $data['member']->row(); $manager_id = $data['manager']->manager_id; $data['manager'] = $this->home_model->getUser($manager_id); $data['manager'] = $data['manager']->row(); if ($data['manager']->credits == '0') { flashMsg('warning',"You can't complete the assessment until your manager has purchased credit."); redirect('home','location'); } elseif ($data['manager']->test_complete == '3'){ flashMsg('warning',"You already completed the Assessment."); redirect('home','location'); } else{ $data['header'] = "Home"; $this->survey_form_processing->survey_form($this->_container,$data); } } Library: function survey_form($container) { if($method ==1){ $id = $this->CI->session->userdata('id'); // Setup fields for($i=1;$i<18;$i++){ $fields["a_".$i] = 'Question '.$i; } for($i=1;$i<17;$i++){ $fields["b_".$i] = 'Question '.$i; } $fields["company_name"] = "Company Name"; $fields['company_address'] = "company_address"; $fields['company_phone'] = "company_phone"; $fields['company_state'] = "company_state"; $fields['company_city'] = "company_city"; $fields['company_zip'] = "company_zip"; $fields['job_title'] = "job_title"; $fields['job_type'] = "job_type"; $fields['job_time'] = "job_time"; $fields['department'] = "department"; $fields['supervisor'] = "supervisor"; $fields['vision'] = "vision"; $fields['height'] = "height"; $fields['weight'] = "weight"; $fields['hand_dominance'] = "hand_dominance"; $fields['areas_of_fatigue'] = "areas_of_fatigue"; $fields['injury_review'] = "injury_review"; $fields['job_positive'] = "job_positive"; $fields['risk_factors'] = "risk_factors"; $fields['job_improvement_short'] = "job_improvement_short"; $fields['job_improvement_long'] = "job_improvement_long"; $fields["c_1"] = "Near Lift"; $fields["c_2"] = "Middle Lift"; $fields["c_3"] = "Far Lift"; $this->CI->validation->set_fields($fields); // Set Rules for($i=1;$i<18;$i++){ $rules["a_".$i]= 'hour|integer|max_length[2]'; } for($i=1;$i<17;$i++){ $rules["b_".$i]= 'hour|integer|max_length[2]'; } // Setup form default values $this->CI->validation->set_rules($rules); if ( $this->CI->validation->run() === FALSE ) { // Output any errors $this->CI->validation->output_errors(); } else { // Submit form $this->_submit(); } // Modify form, first load $this->CI->db->from('be_user_profiles'); $this->CI->db->where('user_id' , $id); $user = $this->CI->db->get(); $this->CI->db->from('be_survey'); $this->CI->db->where('user_id' , $id); $survey = $this->CI->db->get(); $user = array_merge($user->row_array(),$survey->row_array()); $this->CI->validation->set_default_value($user); // Display page $data['user'] = $user; $data['header'] = 'Risk Assessment Survey'; $data['page'] = $this->CI->config->item('backendpro_template_public') .   • Why isn't this simple test class's method inherited in Ruby?

    - by Kevin Bannister
    Consider this very simple logging class: class MockLog def self.log_stub_method(*args) args.each do |a| define_method "#{a}" do |msg| t = Time.now.strftime("%Y-%m-%d %H:%M:%S") $stderr.puts "[#{a.upcase}] \u00bb [#{t}] #{msg}" end end end log_stub_method :fatal, :error, :warn, :info, :debug end Let's add logging to all our classes: class Module def has_logging() class_eval { @log = MockLog.new def log self.class.instance_variable_get :@log end } end end Now, why doesn't this work? class Foo has_logging end Foo.new.log.nil? # => false, as expected class Bar < Foo end Bar.new.log.nil? # => true?! Why wasn't the `log` method inherited?

  • Split text files Accross threads

    - by Kevin
    The problem: I have a few text files (10) with numbers in them on every line. I need to have them split across some threads I create using the pthread library. these threads that are created (worker threads) are to find the largest prime number that gets sent to them (and over all the largest prime from all of the text files). My current thoughts on solutions: I am thinking myself to have two arrays and all of the text files in one array and the other array will contain a binary file that I can read say 1000 lines and send the pointer to the index of that binary file in a struct that contains the id, file pointer, and file position and let it crank through that. a little bit of what I am talking about pthread_create(&threads[index],NULL,calc_sqrt,(void *)threadFields[index]);//Pass struct to each worker Struct: typedef struct threadFields{ int *id, *position; FILE *Fin; }tField; If anyone has any insight or a better solution it would be greatly appreciated Thanks

  • How does Rails Plugin Storage work?

    - by Kevin
    Trying to figure out how to install rails plugins manually on windows so I have a few questions. What does the directory need to be named in vendor/plugins? Is it arbitrary or is it linked to something within the plugin config files or is that what you set in the environment.rb? Once I've copied the files to the correct directory, do I always need to run something inside like init.rb or is it good to go? What's the difference between 'require' and 'include'? Thanks!

  • String vectors not working as expected with newline and iterators? (C++)

    - by kevin
    I have a text file made of 3 lines: Line 1 Line 3 (Line 1, a blank line, and Line 3) vector<string> text; vector<string>::iterator it; ifstream file("test.txt"); string str; while (getline(file, str)) { if (str.length() == 0) str = "\n"; // since getline discards the newline character, replacing blank strings with newline text.push_back(str); } // while for (it=text.begin(); it < text.end(); it++) cout << (*it); Prints out: Line 1 Line 3 I'm not sure why the string with only a newline was not printed out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Html newbie! background-image question

    - by Kevin Li
    Hi! I'm learning HTML and I wanted to practice by recreating a invoice sent to me by Electronics Expo. However, I used the background-image property and repeated it by repeat-x and now, the background stretches across the page so much that it has a horizontal bar to drag. http://htmlpocketreference.110mb.com/index.html You can see what I did in my link above. Also, I would really appreciate some advice on simplifying my CSS coding. It seems really messy and I have to move every element once something changes. -.- Thanks!
