  • Regex for circular replacement

    - by polygenelubricants
How would you use regex to write functions to do the following: Replace lowercase 'a' with uppercase and vice versa Where words are separated by whitespaces and > and < are special markers, replace >word with word< and vice versa Replace postincrement (i++;) with preincrement (++i;) and vice versa. Variable names are [a-z]+. Input is just a bunch of these statements. Bonus: also do decrement. Also interested in solutions in other flavors. Note: this is NOT a homework question. See also my previous explorations of regex: Regex split into overlapping strings (Alan Moore's answer is especially instructive) Can you use zero-width matching regex in String split? (my solution exploits a known Java regex bug with regards to non-obvious length lookbehind!)

  • Software to create a knowledge base/FAQ system

    - by H1Man
Our company is looking to build a web-based knowledge base system that can be used by our clients/end users to reduce the amount of support calls. Couple important notes: This is aimed at our end users, in other words, non-techies. So the UI has to be easy to use Should have the excellent (fast, accurate) search Should have ability to rate and comment on articles This will only be maintained by one or 2 people, so security isn't a big concern Something similar to what Microsoft is doing with their Knowledge Base. http://support.microsoft.com/search/ Does anyone have any recommendations on what software I can use? Thanks, H. Edit: I should have made this clear before but I don't mean build as in having our developers build a support/kb system from the ground up. I am looking to use a existing software package/solution that can be used to implement a knowledge base/support site.

  • ASP.NET MVC 2 Dynamic QueryString Management

    - by vikas anand
Hello All, I am very new to ASP.NET MVC and currently, I am involved in developing a new application in ASP.NET MVC 2. I am having problem in managing a long querystring parameters that comes from dBase. For example, in any non-mvc app the following URL works well: http ://example.com/test.aspx?first_name=fname&last_name=lname&email_id=email&address1=add1&address2=add2&city=city&state=state&zip_code=zip and so on. The QueryString parameter can be determined on the fly (i.e. at run-time). Now for dynamic QueryString how routing will be done? Also for a simple URL, the URL will be as follows (in ASP.NET MVC): http ://example.com/test/id/category But for above mentioned dynamic & long QueryString how the URL will look like? Will all the QueryString parameters be separated through slash (/)? Thanks in advance for your help. Best Regards, Vikas Anand

  • WPF MediaPlayer doesn't play M4A?

    - by Nick
I am trying to use a MediaPlayer instance to play M4A files. For those of you that aren't familiar, MediaPlayer is the non-XAML version of a MediaElement. There are pretty much the same, but I don't want any XAML, so I use a MediaPlayer instead. Anyways, it plays some M4A files just fine. The NaturalDuration of other M4A files is 0, but it still plays. The remaining files don't play at all and the exception thrown is "Media file download failed." Playing all these songs using Windows Media Player works perfectly. Isn't the MediaPlayer and MediaElement classes built upon the same framework as WMP? I'm confused as to why it isn't working. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Nick

  • Display issue with jQuery dialog: form shows as separate window

    - by RememberME
    On my button click, the jQuery dialog appears with just the title and buttons. When you mouseover, then you see the form inputs in front of the dialog covering the buttons. When you scroll down, the form inputs do not move, so you can never see the last few textboxes. <div id="popupCreateCompany" title="Create a new company"> <form> <fieldset> <p> <label for="company_name">Company Name:</label> <%= Html.TextBox("company_name") %> </p> <p> <label for="company_desc">Company Description:</label> <%= Html.TextBox("company_desc") %> </p> <p> <label for="address">Address:</label> <%= Html.TextBox("address") %> </p> <p> <label for="city">City:</label> <%= Html.TextBox("city") %> </p> <p> <label for="state">State:</label> <%= Html.TextBox("state") %> </p> <p> <label for="zip">Zip:</label> <%= Html.TextBox("zip") %> </p> <p> <label for="website">Website:</label> <%= Html.TextBox("website") %> </p> </fieldset> </form> </div> jQuery: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $('input').filter('.datepick').datepicker(); $('#popupCreateCompany').dialog( { autoOpen: false, modal: true, buttons: { 'Add': function() { var dialog = $(this); var form = dialog.find('input:text'); $.post('/company/create', $(form).serialize(), function() { dialog.dialog('close'); }) }, 'Cancel': function() { $(this).dialog('close'); } } }); $("#create-company").click(function() { $('#popupCreateCompany').dialog('open'); }); On mouseover: After scroll down:

  • Symfony include_component() with components from a plugin

  • Is post-sudden-power-loss filesystem corruption on an SSD drive's ext3 partition "expected behavior"?

    - by Jeremy Friesner
My company makes an embedded Debian Linux device that boots from an ext3 partition on an internal SSD drive. Because the device is an embedded "black box", it is usually shut down the rude way, by simply cutting power to the device via an external switch. This is normally okay, as ext3's journalling keeps things in order, so other than the occasional loss of part of a log file, things keep chugging along fine. However, we've recently seen a number of units where after a number of hard-power-cycles the ext3 partition starts to develop structural issues -- in particular, we run e2fsck on the ext3 partition and it finds a number of issues like those shown in the output listing at the bottom of this Question. Running e2fsck until it stops reporting errors (or reformatting the partition) clears the issues. My question is... what are the implications of seeing problems like this on an ext3/SSD system that has been subjected to lots of sudden/unexpected shutdowns? My feeling is that this might be a sign of a software or hardware problem in our system, since my understanding is that (barring a bug or hardware problem) ext3's journalling feature is supposed to prevent these sorts of filesystem-integrity errors. (Note: I understand that user-data is not journalled and so munged/missing/truncated user-files can happen; I'm specifically talking here about filesystem-metadata errors like those shown below) My co-worker, on the other hand, says that this is known/expected behavior because SSD controllers sometimes re-order write commands and that can cause the ext3 journal to get confused. In particular, he believes that even given normally functioning hardware and bug-free software, the ext3 journal only makes filesystem corruption less likely, not impossible, so we should not be surprised to see problems like this from time to time. Which of us is right? • ASP.NET HTTPHandler

    - by josephj1989
    I have an HttpHandler class (implements IHttphandler) where the path defined for the handler in web.config is *.jpg. I am requesting a Jpg image in my page. Within the HTTP Handler I am writing to a file in the filesystem. By mistake I was trying to write to a non existant directory. This should have thrown an exception but the execution simply proceeds.Ofcourse no file is writte. But if I give a proper directory the file is written correctly.Is there anything special about HttpHandler Exceptions. See part of the code public void ProcessRequest(HttpContext context){ File.WriteAllLines(context.Request.ApplicationPath+@"\"+"resul.log",new string[]{"Entered JPG Handler"});

  • Problem restoring a SQL Server backup

    - by Elmex
I have a SQL Server 2008, which is part of a domain. Now I make a backup of a database of this server and restore it on a SQL Server, which is not part of a domain. I have an C# application, which uses this database. On the NON-Domain machine I get now exceptions like this: "Cannot execute as the database prinzipal because the principial "dbo" does not exist, this type of principal cannot be impersonatedm or you don not have the permission" I think, the problem is, that the database owner is a domain user and this user doesn't exist on the target machine (backup machine)!? How can I solve this ?

  • Most popular classroom, bootcamp, or online training for ASP.NET 3.5

    - by Curtis White
What are the most popular and highest quality training sources for ASP.NET 3.5. I am interested in both "boot camp" class room training and online self-paced training. I am interested in both training that can be applied to certification but also non certification based training in the following areas: ASP.NET 3.5, AJAX, and web security. The training should be geared to real world projects and not memorization. I am most interested to hear from Microsoft MVP's on the matter and those who personally have attended or scheduled such training.

  • SWT Layout for absolute positioning with minimal-spanning composites

    - by pure.equal
Hi, I'm writing a DND-editor where I can position elemtents (like buttons, images ...) freely via absolute positioning. Every element has a parent composite. These composites should span/grasp/embrace every element they contain. There can be two or more elements in the same composite and a composite can contain another composite. This image shows how it should look like. To achive this I wrote a custom layoutmanager: import org.eclipse.swt.SWT; import org.eclipse.swt.graphics.Point; import org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Composite; import org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Control; import org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Layout; public class SpanLayout extends Layout { Point[] sizes; int calcedHeight, calcedWidth, calcedX, calcedY; Point[] positions; /* * (non-Javadoc) * * @see * org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Layout#computeSize(org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Composite * , int, int, boolean) * * A composite calls computeSize() on its associated layout to determine the * minimum size it should occupy, while still holding all its child controls * at their minimum sizes. */ @Override protected Point computeSize(Composite composite, int wHint, int hHint, boolean flushCache) { int width = wHint, height = hHint; if (wHint == SWT.DEFAULT) width = composite.getBounds().width; if (hHint == SWT.DEFAULT) height = composite.getBounds().height; return new Point(width, height); } /* * (non-Javadoc) * * @see * org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Layout#layout(org.eclipse.swt.widgets.Composite, * boolean) * * Calculates the positions and sizes for the children of the passed * Composite, then places them accordingly by calling setBounds() on each * one. */ @Override protected void layout(Composite composite, boolean flushCache) { Control children[] = composite.getChildren(); for (int i = 0; i < children.length; i++) { calcedX = calcX(children[i]); calcedY = calcY(children[i]); calcedHeight = calcHeight(children[i]) - calcedY; calcedWidth = calcWidth(children[i]) - calcedX; if (composite instanceof Composite) { calcedX = calcedX - composite.getLocation().x; calcedY = calcedY - composite.getLocation().y; } children[i].setBounds(calcedX, calcedY, calcedWidth, calcedHeight); } } private int calcHeight(Control control) { int maximum = 0; if (control instanceof Composite) { if (((Composite) control).getChildren().length > 0) { for (Control child : ((Composite) control).getChildren()) { int calculatedHeight = calcHeight(child); if (calculatedHeight > maximum) { maximum = calculatedHeight; } } return maximum; } } return control.computeSize(SWT.DEFAULT, SWT.DEFAULT, true).y + control.getLocation().y; } private int calcWidth(Control control) { int maximum = 0; if (control instanceof Composite) { if (((Composite) control).getChildren().length > 0) { for (Control child : ((Composite) control).getChildren()) { int calculatedWidth = calcWidth(child); if (calculatedWidth > maximum) { maximum = calculatedWidth; } } return maximum; } } return control.computeSize(SWT.DEFAULT, SWT.DEFAULT, true).x + control.getLocation().x; } private int calcX(Control control) { int minimum = Integer.MAX_VALUE; if (control instanceof Composite) { if (((Composite) control).getChildren().length > 0) { for (Control child : ((Composite) control).getChildren()) { int calculatedX = calcX(child); if (calculatedX < minimum) { minimum = calculatedX; } } return minimum; } } return control.getLocation().x; } private int calcY(Control control) { int minimum = Integer.MAX_VALUE; if (control instanceof Composite) { if (((Composite) control).getChildren().length > 0) { for (Control child : ((Composite) control).getChildren()) { int calculatedY = calcY(child); if (calculatedY < minimum) { minimum = calculatedY; } } return minimum; } } return control.getLocation().y; } } The problem with it is that it always positions the composite at the position (0,0). This is because it tries to change the absolute positioning into a relative one. Lets say I position a image at position (100,100) and one at (200,200). Then it has to calculate the location of the composite to be at (100,100) and spanning the one at (200,200). But as all child positions are relative to their parents I have to change the positions of the children to remove the 100px offset of the parent. When the layout gets updated it moves everything to the top-left corner (as seen in the image) because the position of the image is not (100,100) but (0,0) since I tried to remove the 100px offset of the partent. Where is my error in reasoning? Is this maybe a totally wrong approach? Is there maybe an other way to achive the desired behavior? Thanks in advance! Best regards, Ed

  • Zedgraph - determine length of tic on an axis ?

    - by southof40
In Zedgraph building a line chart. I have some requirements for axes labels which can't be produced automatically so inspired by this other Stackoverflow answer I'm building a custom axis. I can draw the Axis OK and I can place the labels but I want to draw my own tics. To do this I'd like to know the colour/pen width/size etc of the tics on the other axes. Determining the colour and pen width are no problem but finding out the length of a tic is difficult (I mean how long is it drawn away from the axis). I'm using a LineObj to draw the custom tics but I can't figure out how to long to draw them to match other non-custom tics . Does anyone know where this is defined (or have a smarter way of drawing your own tics than using LineObjs ?)

  • Regular expressions in findstr

    - by Johannes Rössel
I'm doing a little string validation with findstr and its /r flag to allow for regular expressions. In particular I'd like to validate integers. The regex ^[0-9][0-9]*$ worked fine for non-negative numbers but since I now support negative numbers as well I tried ^([1-9][0-9]*|0|-[1-9][0-9]*)$ for either positive or negative integers or zero. The regex works fine theoretically. I tested it in PowerShell and it matches what I want. However, with findstr /r /c:"^([1-9][0-9]*|0|-[1-9][0-9]*)$" it doesn't. While I know that findstr doesn't have the most advanced regex support (even below Notepad++ which is probably quite an achievement), I would have expected such simple expressions to work. Any ideas what I'm doing wrong here?

  • Can you authenticate into SSAS with AD LDS (ADAM) accounts?

    - by Jaxidian
I'm very new to AD LDS and experienced but not qualified with SSAS, so my apologies for my ignorances with these. We have a couple implementations where we expose SSAS via an HTTPS proxy (msmdpump.dll) and currently we have a temporary domain setup handling this (where our end-users have a second account+creds to manage because of this = non-ideal). I want to move us towards a more permanent solution which I'm thinking of moving all authentication to AD LDS for our web apps, SSAS, and others. However, SSAS is where I'm concerned about this. I know SSAS requires Windows Authentication and to play nicely, and that this ultimately means Active Directory will be involved. Is there a way to get this done with AD LDS instead of having to use a full AD DS implementation? If so, how?

  • Cost of using ASP.NET

    - by Mackristo
One thing that I keep hearing in reference to ASP.NET and MSFT technologies is that they cost money to use. Often when they are being compared to open source languages someone will mention that one factor in favor of open source is that it's free (to an extent). My question is, when does ASP.NET actually cost money to use in terms of using the proprietary technology? Understandably there are the hosting fees, but I'm curious about the fees outside of these hosting fees. I'm especially curious about this as it relates one-person smaller-site development (non-team/large enterprise). Any help is appreciated. (edits) Some excellent answers. Much appreciated The projects that I'm looking to use the technologies for would be personal sites and very small business sites (1 or 2). The intent would of course be that these projects get much bigger. It seems that for commercial production, fees will apply. What about just basic dynamic "shared hosting" sites that provide information?

  • Move a legend in ggplot2

    - by Dan Goldstein
I'm trying to create a ggplot2 plot with the legend beneath the plot. The ggplot2 book says on p 112 "The position and justification of legends are controlled by the theme setting legend.position, and the value can be right, left, top, bottom, none (no legend), or a numeric position". The following code works (since "right" it is the default), and it also works with "none" as the legend position, but "left", "top", "bottom", all fail with "Error in grid.Call.graphics("L_setviewport", pvp, TRUE) : Non-finite location and/or size for viewport" library(ggplot2) (myDat <- data.frame(cbind(VarX=10:1, VarY=runif(10)), Descrip=sample(LETTERS[1:3], 10, replace=TRUE))) qplot(VarX,VarY, data=myDat, shape=Descrip) + opts(legend.position="right") What am I doing wrong? Re-positioning a legend must be incredibly common, so I figure it's me.

(non commercial preferred since it's just for experimentation) The idea is to allow a user to say something from a website then whatever he/she says will show up on the screen (as text) I've read about many available softwares ranging from Microsoft Speech, Sphinx, Julius etc just not sure which one will perform best and easiest to install. Also do typically do I need to have root permission on my hosting to do this kind of stuff? I'm using a regular shared hosting right now. Thank you, Tee

When using nullable types in C# what is the best practice way to test for null: bool isNull = (i == null); or bool isNull = !i.HasValue; Also when assigning to a non-null type is this: long? i = 1; long j = (long)i; better than: long? i = 1; long j = i.Value;

  • Why is AudioOutputUnitStart freezing my app in iOS 4?

    - by Luke
Hi guys, I have an audio app which uses the RemoteIO AudioUnit. It works fine on iPhone, iPad, and any flavor of the simulator on 3.2, but when it hits AudioOutputUnitStart (), it freezes. I get the message "AddRunningClient starting device on non-zero client count" in the console, which I'm not sure how to resolve. I stop the unit and dispose of the AudioComponent every time the app closes. The app works fine the first time I run after restarting everything, but freezes every time after that. What's strange is there are no error messages - just an unresponsive interface and a frozen line of code. Thanks for your help. Luke

  • How can I prevent tab characters etc. from being pasted into an asp.net textbox?

    - by Neal
Hello, I'd like to have an asp.net textbox that people can paste content into and it works like notepad, i.e. no formatting or special characters will get entered. I take text and pass it to a web service which manipulates it and converts it into a tab delimited file. The problem I've experienced is sometimes people copy from MS Word and paste that content in and somehow even the tab characters etc. get passed to the web service. I run routines now to strip that information out but it would be so much easier if the textbox on the web page didn't capture anything but the text itself, i.e. visible characters (numbers, letters, punctuation). Anyone have a suggestion to have a textbox that doesn't capture formatting and non-visual characters? Thank you.

  • Classes / instances in Ontology

    - by SODA
Hi, I'm trying to comprehend ontology basics. Here's an example: car (class) 2009 VW CC (sub-class or instance?) My neighbor's 2009 VW CC (instance) My issue is understanding what is "2009 VW CC" (as a car model). If you're making product model a sub-class in the ontology - all of a sudden your ontology becomes bloated with thousands of subclasses of a "car". That's redundant. At the same time we can't say "2009 VW CC" is an instance, at least it's not material instance of a class. Does it make sense to distinguish between regular instances and material (distinct physical objects)? At the other hand, if both are instances (of different nature so to say), then how can instance inherit properties / relations of a non-class?

  • Asp.Net MVC does automatic model validation for DateTime but no others

    - by MattSlay
I'm using MVC 2 with some Models from a LinqToSql project that I built. I see that when I post back to a Controller Action after editing a form that has a DateTime field from the Model, the MVC Html.ValidationMessageFor() helper will nicely display an error beside the Date text box. This seems to happen automatically when the you test ModelState.IsValid() in the Controller Action, as if the MVC model binding automatically knows that the DateTime field cannot be empty. My question is... I have some other string fields in these LinqToSql generated classes that are Not-Nullable (marked as Not Nullable in Sql Server which passes thourgh to the LinqToSql generated classes), so why doesn't Mr. MVC pick up on those as well and display a "Required" message in the ValidationMessageFor() placeholders I have added for those fields? Sure, I have successfully added the MetadataType(typeof) buddy classes to cover these Non-nullable string fields, but it sure does seem redundant to add all this metadata in buddy classes when the LinqToSql generated classes already contain enough info that MVC could sniff out. It MVC validation works with DateTime automatically, why not these Not-nullable fields too?

  • How to create generic class which takes 3 types.

    - by scope-creep
I'm trying to make a generic class that takes 3 types, either a simple string, IList or a IList. public class OntologyStore { } public sealed class jim<T> where T:new() { IList<string> X = null; IList<OntologyStore> X1 = null; public bob() { if (typeof(T) == typeof(String)) { X = new List<string>(); } if (typeof(T) == typeof(OntologyStore)) { X1 = new List<OntologyStore>(); } } } I can easily create, which you would expect to work, jim<OntologyStore> x1=new jim<jim<OntologyStore>() as you would expect, but when I put in jim<string> x2=new jim<string>() the compiler reports the string is non abtract type, which you would expect. Is it possible to create a generic class, which can instantiate as a class which holds string, or a IList or an IList?

  • Can Castle Monorail and ASP.NET MVC coexist in the same project?

    - by Matthew
I have a large Monorail project that we have decided we are going to move over to ASP.NET MVC. Most of the underlying system will likely be reusable, but the Controllers will of course have to be rewritten, and proabably at least some of the views. It strikes me that a low risk avenue for this is gradually convert well defined sections of the system to MVC, and perhaps as MVCContrib Portable Areas. Does anyone know if there are any non-obvious gotchas that I am likely to run into with this approach? Thanks for your input, Matthew
