Is it possible to create multiple widgets in runtime?

After adding log4j to my application I get the following output every time I execute my application:
log4j:WARN No appenders could be found for logger (slideselector.facedata.FaceDataParser).
log4j:WARN Please initialize the log4j system properly.
It seems this means a configuration file is missing.
Where should this config file be located and what is a good start content?

I am trying to show a .tif image in matlab and I use these two line of codes
a = imread('C:\Users\sepideh\Desktop\21_15.tif');
imshow(a)
that encounters this warning
Warning: Image is too big to fit on screen; displaying at 3%
In imuitools\private\initSize at 73
In imshow at 262
what is the cause of this warning and what can I do to fix that?
the main trouble is it sometimes doesn't show the image and of course even if it shows the image CPU usage gets high that I can't zoom properly
I'm using some 3rd party AWT components in a desktop application. The component's layout is changed within the paint() method, and this causes some very strange behaviour. This appears to be fixed by adding the synchronized keyword to the paint() method, but is this a safe thing to do?
I have a canvas element defined statically in the html with a width and height. If I attempt to use JavaScript to resize it dynamically (setting a new width and height - either on the attributes of the canvas or via the style properties) I get the following error in Firefox:
uncaught exception: [Exception... "Illegal operation on WrappedNative prototype object" nsresult: "0x8057000c (NS_ERROR_XPC_BAD_OP_ON_WN_PROTO)" location: "JS frame :: file:///home/russh/Desktop/test.html :: onclick :: line 1" data: no]
Is it possible to resize this element or do I have to destroy it and create a new element on the fly?

The default Notes app on the iPad is fine for my note taking needs. I see how it syncs through iTunes to Mail, but if one doesn't use Mail for e-mail management, is there any other way to sync and view the iPad notes on the desktop?
(We use Eudora for mail management, and Apple's Mail is not great if all you want to do is view your notes with it.)
As a result of a conversation with a colleague today, I've been searching (unsuccessfully) for a large'ish list of what technology stacks are being used popular websites and standalone applications today. We're aware of the big ones like Facebook (php/ ), Twitter (scala/cassandra), Youtube (python/?), Digg (php/cassandra), stackoverflow (.net mvc/sqlserver), but we're looking for a more complete list. It would also be interesting to hear about any stats for desktop apps also?
Can anyone help?
Hi all,

I am looking to get into web application development. I am an undergrad CS major with experience in programming desktop apps, but with only basic knowledge regarding how web apps work. Any suggestions of where to start? Javascript, php, perl, ruby, python? Should I look into frameworks like django, seaside, ruby on rails, etc at first or wait until I am more experienced to use those?
I have a number of users which are logged in at a time in my desktop application.
They are working on the same table (create, read, update, delete data) so I have to update their views, to reflect changes, every few seconds - currently I am thinking to use a different thread to do that.
I am using the MySQL database engine.
Is there a way, using JDBC, to listen for changes on a specific table in the database and triggering a Java method only when changes are made?
I am work an Desktop Application in which i need to save the name of corrently focused or active window name(mozilla firefox, or any other file name) in an text file currently I am using getActiveWindow() method of KeyboardFocusManager which give the name of active Window, or null if the active Window is not a member of the calling thread's context.

So I have one part of my build that requires domain rights and does file copying.
Another part of my build runs some program that requires the user to interact with the desktop which seem to be only accomplish able by the system account.
What is the best way to work around these two items? At the moment it seems like I can only do one or the other...
I'm working on a desktop application that will produce several in-memory datasets as an intermediary before being committed to a database.
Obviously I'm going to try to keep the size of these to a minimum, but are there any guidelines on thresholds I shouldn't cross for good functionality on an 'average' machine?
Thanks for any help.
Recently, I've been exploring Java space, and came across Spring Framework.
Is this a web app framework like CodeIgniter or Rails ?
If so, is Springs used for developing enterprise web applications that runs on Java EE technology ?
I am curious, why Spring is getting lot of attention. Isn't it a lot cheaper to simply use LAMP + CI or Rails to develop web application ?
Can Spring be used to develop desktop applications ?

In Windows XP, one can press Alt-PrintScreen to copy an image of the active window, or Ctrl-PrintScreen to copy an image of the full desktop.
This can then be pasted into applications that accept images: Photoshop, Microsoft Word, etc.
I'm wondering: Is there a way to save the screenshot directly to a file? Do I really have to open Photoshop simply to paste an image, then save it?
Hi,
I want to write a new file with the Java FileWriter. I use it like this:
FileWriter newJsp = new FileWriter("C:\\user\Desktop\dir1\dir2\filename.txt");
Now the dir1 and dir2 currently don't exist. I want Java to create them automatically if they aren't already there. Actually Java should set up the whole file path if not already existing.
How can I achieve this?
I was happily running my CentOS 5.4 before something bad happened that somehow corrupted the 'nautilus' package. It stopped me from using the default Gnome Desktop.
Then I installed (using yum) the KDE and nautilus later on. Now, KDE is running perfectly with one exception that it takes around 10 minutes before showing up the Login Screen and only a blue screen with mouse pointer keeps showing during those 10 minutes.
Thanks in Anticipation.
Regards, Talal
Hi All,
Previously Ctrl + D was assigned to an application by a shortcut on Desktop.
The shortcut is now deleted but shortcut key is still assigned to the same application.
I need to reassign Ctrl + D to a new application.
Regards and Thanks,
