  • [Using $this when not in object context in] php error

    - by JasonS
    I have solved this problem, I just need to know what to do. I get the above error because I just realised that the class is being run as class::function($values) instead of class-function($values). Does anyone know how to convert this function to instantiate the class then run the function with values? private function _load($values=null) { define('LOADED_CONTROLLER', $this->controller); define('LOADED_FUNCTION', $this->function); $function = $this->function; $controller = new $this->controller; ($values == null) ? $controller->$function() : call_user_func_array(array($this->controller, $function), $values); }

  • Echo a multidimensional array in PHP

    - by Jennifer
    I have a multidimensional array and I'm trying to find out how to simply "echo" the elements of the array. The depth of the array is not known, so it could be deeply nested. In the case of the array below, the right order to echo would be: This is a parent comment This is a child comment This is the 2nd child comment This is another parent comment This is the array I was talking about: Array ( [0] => Array ( [comment_id] => 1 [comment_content] => This is a parent comment [child] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [comment_id] => 3 [comment_content] => This is a child comment [child] => Array ( [0] => Array ( [comment_id] => 4 [comment_content] => This is the 2nd child comment [child] => Array ( ) ) ) ) ) ) [1] => Array ( [comment_id] => 2 [comment_content] => This is another parent comment [child] => Array ( ) ) )

  • php/mysql append state to city

    - by mike
    Hello, Having a hard time figuring out the best way to do this... I have a search function that takes "search terms" and "search location". In the location input, I have an suggestion feature that brings up "city, state abbreviation" but it seems some users just do not use it(or can't) so they end up entering just a city name... I need to append the state abbreviation after the form is submitted. I have a table with all city and state names in the U.S. but the problem is... there are multiple cities with the same name in different states... I would like to add the state abbreviation for the state that the city is most popular for(does that make sense?). For example, if the user enters "Miami" I would like it to become "Miami, FL" as opposed to "Miami, WV"... Any ideas? Thanks!

  • php and XML range into array

    - by Mike
    The code below helps be to get the WHOLE XML and put it into an array. What I'm wondering is, what would be a good way to get the XML only from item 3 - 6 or any arbitrary range instead of the whole document. $mt_arr = array(); $d = new DOMDocument(); $d->load('http://news.google.com/?output=rss'); foreach ($d->getElementsByTagName('item') as $t) { $list = array ( 'title' => $t->getElementsByTagName('title')->item(0)->nodeValue); array_push($mt_arr, $list); } Thanks

  • Unique text field in MySQL and php

    - by Jonathan
    I've created a salt using; md5(rand(0,10000000)); (there is probably a better way?) There doesn't seem to be possible to make a text field unique in MYSQL. So how do I check if the salt has already been used for a previous user? Or should I generate the salt based on the current date/time? as it is impossible for 2 users to register at exactly the same time correct?

  • How to create PHP method linking?

    - by Kerry
    I've seen other objects that do this: $obj->method1()->method2(); How do I do that? Is each function just modifying the pointer of an object or returning a pointer? I don't know the proper term for this style -- if anyone could help me with that, it would be great.

  • Counting comma seperated values in php,how to?

    - by Jay
    Hey folks, I have a variable holding values separated by a comma (Implode), I'm trying to get the total count of the values in that variable however, count() is just returning 1. I've tried converting the comma separated values to a properly formatted array which still spits out1. So heres the quick snippet where the sarray session equals to value1,value2,value3: $schools = $_SESSION['sarray']; $result = count($schools); Any help would be appreciated.

  • effective counter for unique number of visits in PHP & MySQL

    - by Adnan
    Hello, I am creating a counter for unique number of visits on a post, so what I have until now is a table for storing data like this; cvp_post_id | cvp_ip | cvp_user_id In cases a registered user visits a post, for the first time a record is inserted with cpv_post_id and cvp_user_id, so for his next visit I query the table and if the record is available I do not count him as a new visitor. In cases of an anonymous user the same happens but now the cvp_ip and cpv_post_id are used. My concerns is that I do a query every time anyone visits a post for checking if there has been a visit, what would be a more effective way for doing this?

  • Slick PHP based image manager for managing user profile images

    - by franko75
    Hi, I'm just throwing this out there as I'm plodding my way through creating a Member Photo album on a site i'm working on, where they can login and upload their photos to a personal gallery. I want this to be nice and lightweight, but still slick and "modern" with a modal based interface for the user. I'm surprised though that there is seemingly nothing open source out there which fits the bill - I've done a few searches on Google to no avail and can't seem to find anything. Lots of bloated photo galleries out there but nothing looks like it has been developed using more recent technologies. Is anyone aware of anything which might suit what I'm looking for? I'm fully prepared to try and code it myself but I'd be delighted if I didn't have to! Pure laziness you might say, but there's no point reinventing the wheel.

  • break up recursive function in php

    - by Mike
    What is the best way to break up a recursive function that is using a ton of resources For example: function do_a_lot(){ //a lot of code and processing is done here //it takes a lot of execution time if($true){ //if true we have to do all of that processing again do_a_lot(); } } Is there anyway to make the server only have to take the brunt of the first execution and then break up the recursion into separate processes? Or am I dreaming?

  • PHP - Patterns within Arrays

    - by Toby
    I am trying to create a function which maps a recurring pattern of integers using an array. As an example if I have a starting array of (0,1,3) and I know that I want to stop the pattern when I hit 15. The pattern gets incremented by a fixed integer each time (lets say 4) so my final pattern should be.. 0 1 3 4 (0 + 4) 5 (1 + 4) 7 (2 + 4) 8 (4 + 4) 9 (5 + 4) 11(7 + 4) 12(8 + 4) 13(9 + 4) 15(11+ 4) Does anyone have any pointers on how this can be achieved? My current implementation works but is stupidly inefficient which something like this... $array = array(0,1,3); $inc = 4; $end = end($array); $final = 15; while($end < $final) { $tmp = array(); foreach($array AS $row) { $tmp = $row + $inc; } $array = merge($tmp, $array); $end = end($array); }

  • PHP Get Shape Coordinates From Points

    - by Ozzy
    Im sure if the title is exactly what I am trying to describe so sorry if it isnt. Ok here is what i am trying to do: What i want to do is create a function that you can enter unlimited ammount of coordinates ( the blue dots) and then it will create a shape like so and then return all coordinates the shape covers. Because this is for working with pixels, there will be no decimal coordinates. Something that can be used like so: print_r(get_coords(12,6, 23,13, 30,9, 37,24, 24,34, 25,24, 7,30, 6,15)); // ^ Will output an array of all x and y coordinates that the shape covers How would i go about doing something like this?
