  • Need some tips on my SQL script?

    - by Nano HE
    Hi I plan to create a tale to store the race result like this, Place RaceNumber Gender Name Result 12 0112 Male Mike Lee 1:32:40 16 0117 Female Rose Marry 2:20:40 I confused at the items type definiation. Q1.I am not sure the result can be set to varchar(32) or other type? Q2. and for racenumber, between int(11) and varchar(11), which one is better? Q3. Can I use `UNIQUE KEY` like my way? Q4. Do I need split name to firstName and lastName in my DB table? DROP TABLE IF EXISTS `race_result`; CREATE TABLE IF NOT EXISTS `race_result` ( `id` int(11) NOT NULL auto_increment, `racenumber` int(11) NOT NULL, `gender` enum('male','female') NOT NULL, `name` varchar(16) NOT NULL, `result` varchar(32) NOT NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`id`), UNIQUE KEY `racenumber` (`racenumber`,`id`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=3 DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8 AUTO_INCREMENT=3;

  • Get latest sql rows based on latest date and per user

    - by Umair
    I have the following table: RowId, UserId, Date 1, 1, 1/1/01 2, 1, 2/1/01 3, 2, 5/1/01 4, 1, 3/1/01 5, 2, 9/1/01 I want to get the latest records based on date and per UserId but as a part of the following query (due to a reason I cannot change this query as this is auto generated by a tool but I can write pass any thing starting with AND...): SELECT RowId, UserId, Date FROM MyTable WHERE 1 = 1 AND ( // everything which needs to be done goes here . . . ) I have tried similar query, but get an error: Only one expression can be specified in the select list when the subquery is not introduced with EXISTS.

  • SQL Server: Output an XML field as tabular data using a stored procedure

    - by Pawan
    I am using a table with an XML data field to store the audit trails of all other tables in the database. That means the same XML field has various XML information. For example my table has two records with XML data like this: 1st record: <client> <name>xyz</name> <ssn>432-54-4231</ssn> </client> 2nd record: <emp> <name>abc</name> <sal>5000</sal> </emp> These are the two sample formats and just two records. The table actually has many more XML formats in the same field and many records in each format. Now my problem is that upon query I need these XML formats to be converted into tabular result sets. What are the options for me? It would be a regular task to query this table and generate reports from it. I want to create a stored procedure to which I can pass that I need to query "<emp>" or "<client>", then my stored procedure should return tabular data.

  • Alter Table Filestream runs even if IF statement is false

    - by Allison
    I am writing a script to update a database to add Filestream capability. The script needs to be able to be run multiple times without erroring. This is what I currently have IF ((select count(*) from sys.columns a inner join sys.objects b on a.object_id = b.object_id inner join sys.default_constraints c on c.parent_object_id = a.object_id where a.name = 'evidence_data' and b.name='evidence' and c.name='DF__evidence_evidence_data') = 0) begin ALTER TABLE evidence SET ( FILESTREAM_ON = AnalysisFSGroup ) ALTER TABLE evidence ALTER COLUMN id ADD ROWGUIDCOL; end GO The first time I run this against the database it works fine. The second time when the if statement should be false it throws an error saying "Cannot add FILESTREAM filegroup or partition scheme since table 'evidence' has a FILESTREAM filegroup or partition scheme already." If I put a simple select into the if statement and take out the alter table filestream on line it functions correctly and does not perform the if statement. So esentially it is always running the alter table filestream on statement even if the if statement is false. Any thoughts or suggestions would be great. Thanks.

  • Best way to handle SQL Server fulltext index updates

    - by tlianza
    Hi all, I have a fulltext index which doesn't need to be immediately up-to-date, I'd like to spare myself the I/O (when I do bulk updates, I see a ton of I/O related to the index) and do the index updates during low usage times (nightly, perhaps even weekly). It seems there are two ways to go about this: Turn off change tracking (SET CHANGE_TRACKING OFF) and add a timestamp field to the indexed table, so that you can run alter fulltext index on <table> start INCREMENTAL population, or Enable change tracking, but set it to MANUAL, so that you can run alter fulltext index on <table> start UPDATE population when you need it updated. Is there a preferred method? I couldn't tell from this overview if there was a performance benefit one way or the other. Tom

  • SQL UNION ALL problem after using UNION ALL more than 10 times

    - by VBGKM
    I'm getting a formatting problem if I use more than 10 UNION ALL statements in my VBA Code. If I use 10 or less everything works great. What I'm trying to do is combine 12 worksheets (Excel 2007). I have a numerical column called SC that turns into string and date if I have more than 10 UNION ALL. If I try to use ROUND with more than 10 UNION ALL my last selection will change all the records by one unit. I'm using Microsoft.ACE.OLEDB.12.0 as my provider and my connection string has worked for several things in my code so far. Is there any limit for UNION ALL statements when using OLEDB? Here is my code. Dim StrOr As String Dim i As Variant Dim Cnt As ADODB.Connection Dim Rs As ADODB.Recordset For i = 1 To 12 StrOr = StrOr & " " & "SELECT SC FROM [" & MonthName(i, True) & "$" & "] UNION ALL" Next StrOr = Left(StrOr, Len(StrOr) - 9) & ";" Call GetADOCnt Call ADORs

  • Efficient splitting of elements in a field

    - by Gary
    I have a field in a text file exported from a database. The field contains addresses but sometimes they are quite long and the database allows them to contain multiple lines. When exported, the newline character gets replaced with a dollar sign like this: first part of very long address$second part of very long address$third part of very long address Not every address has multiple lines and no address contains more than three lines. The length of each line is variable. I'm massaging the data for import into MS Access which is used for a mailmerge. I want to split the field on the $ sign if it's there but if the field only contains 1 line, I want to set my two extra output fields to a zero length string so that I don't wind up with blank lines in the address when it gets printed. I have an awk file that's working correctly on all the other data in the textfile but I need to get this last bit working. I tried the below code. Aside from the fact that I get a syntax error at the else, I'm not sure this is a good way to do what I want. This is being done with gawk on Windows. BEGIN { FS = "|" } $1 != "HEADER" { if ($6 ~ /\$/) split($6, arr, "$") address = arr[1] addresstwo = arr[2] addressthree = arr[3] addressLength = length(address) addressTwoLength = length(addresstwo) addressThreeLength = length(addressthree) else { address = $6 addressLength = length($6) addresstwo = "" addressTwoLength = length(addresstwo) addressthree = "" addressThreeLength = length(addressthree) } printf("%*s\t%*s\t\%*s\n", addressLength, address, addressTwoLength, addresstwo, addressThreeLength, addressthree) }

  • Child sProc cannot reference a Local temp table created in parent sProc

    - by John Galt
    On our production SQL2000 instance, we have a database with hundreds of stored procedures, many of which use a technique of creating a #TEMP table "early" on in the code and then various inner stored procedures get EXECUTEd by this parent sProc. In SQL2000, the inner or "child" sProc have no problem INSERTing into #TEMP or SELECTing data from #TEMP. In short, I assume they can all refer to this #TEMP because they use the same connection. In testing with SQL2008, I find 2 manifestations of different behavior. First, at design time, the new "intellisense" feature is complaining in Management Studio EDIT of the child sProc that #TEMP is an "invalid object name". But worse is that at execution time, the invoked parent sProc fails inside the nested child sProc. Someone suggested that the solution is to change to ##TEMP which is apparently a global temporary table which can be referenced from different connections. That seems too drastic a proposal both from the amount of work to chase down all the problem spots as well as possible/probable nasty effects when these sProcs are invoked from web applications (i.e. multiuser issues). Is this indeed a change in behavior in SQL2005 or SQL2008 regarding #TEMP (local temp tables)? We skipped 2005 but I'd like to learn more precisely why this is occuring before I go off and try to hack out the needed fixes. Thanks.

But I cannot impose IF (room_id IS NOT NULL) THEN since it will create KeyToBin('') and RoomKey is foreign key , KeyToBin('') will produce an invalid RoomKey. Any Idea?

  • Does height and width not apply to span?

    - by Kyle Sevenoaks
    Total noob question, but here. CSS .product__specfield_8_arrow { /*background-image:url(../../upload/orng_bg_arrow.png); background-repeat:no-repeat;*/ background-color:#fc0; width:50px !important; height:33px !important; border: 1px solid #dddddd; border-left:none; border-radius:5px; -moz-border-radius:5px; -webkit-border-radius:5px; border-bottom-left-radius:0px; border-top-left-radius:0px; -moz-border-radius-bottomleft:0px; -moz-border-radius-topleft:0px; -webkit-border-bottom-left-radius:0px; -webkit-border-top-left-radius:0px; margin:0; padding:2px; cursor:pointer; }??? HTML <span class="product__specfield_8_arrow">&nbsp;</span>? Fiddle Basically I'm trying to emulate a button, make a span (or something) look like a button next to an input field that actually doesn't need to be one because of an auto fill generator that generates errors onEnter. Thought this'd be a quick fix for now but obviously not. Thanks.

  • SQL Query to return maximums over decades

    - by Abraham Lincoln
    My question is the following. I have a baseball database, and in that baseball database there is a master table which lists every player that has ever played. There is also a batting table, which tracks every players' batting statistics. I created a view to join those two together; hence the masterplusbatting table. CREATE TABLE `Master` ( `lahmanID` int(9) NOT NULL auto_increment, `playerID` varchar(10) NOT NULL default '', `nameFirst` varchar(50) default NULL, `nameLast` varchar(50) NOT NULL default '', PRIMARY KEY (`lahmanID`), KEY `playerID` (`playerID`), ) ENGINE=MyISAM AUTO_INCREMENT=18968 DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; CREATE TABLE `Batting` ( `playerID` varchar(9) NOT NULL default '', `yearID` smallint(4) unsigned NOT NULL default '0', `teamID` char(3) NOT NULL default '', `lgID` char(2) NOT NULL default '', `HR` smallint(3) unsigned default NULL, PRIMARY KEY (`playerID`,`yearID`,`stint`), KEY `playerID` (`playerID`), KEY `team` (`teamID`,`yearID`,`lgID`) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=latin1; Anyway, my first query involved finding the most home runs hit every year since baseball began, including ties. The query to do that is the following.... select f.yearID, f.nameFirst, f.nameLast, f.HR from ( select yearID, max(HR) as HOMERS from masterplusbatting group by yearID )as x inner join masterplusbatting as f on f.yearID = x.yearId and f.HR = x.HOMERS This worked great. However, I now want to find the highest HR hitter in each decade since baseball began. Here is what I tried. select f.yearID, truncate(f.yearid/10,0) as decade,f.nameFirst, f.nameLast, f.HR from ( select yearID, max(HR) as HOMERS from masterplusbatting group by yearID )as x inner join masterplusbatting as f on f.yearID = x.yearId and f.HR = x.HOMERS group by decade You can see that I truncated the yearID in order to get 187, 188, 189 etc instead of 1897, 1885,. I then grouped by the decade, thinking that it would give me the highest per decade, but it is not returning the correct values. For example, it's giving me Adrian Beltre with 48 HR's in 2004 but everyone knows that Barry Bonds hit 73 HR in 2001. Can anyone give me some pointers?

  • SQL finding members who are not friends of another member

    - by thedirktastik
    I'm struggling to find a query which will return members who aren't friends of a certain member. Here is the layout of my tables: member_login: MemberID, email, password member_info: memberID, first_name, last_name member_friends: friendID, req_member, req_date, app_member, app_date, date_deactivated I tried to use NOT IN to run a query that would return the opposite of friends but nothing I try seems to be working. Here's what I thought would work: SELECT Mi.First_Name, Mi.Last_Name FROM Member_Info Mi WHERE Mi.Memberid NOT IN( SELECT Mi.Memberid, Mi.First_Name, Mi.Last_Name FROM Member_Info Mi, Member_Login Ml, Member_Friends Mf WHERE Mi.Memberid = Ml.Memberid AND (Mi.Memberid = Mf.Req_Member AND Mf.App_Member = 1 OR Mi.Memberid = Mf.App_Member AND Mf.Req_Member =1) AND Ml.Date_Deactivated <= 0 AND Mf.App_Date > 0 ); Any ideas?

  • Sql Paging/Sorting - Efficent method with dynamic sort?

    - by dmose
    I'm trying to implement this style of paging: http://www.4guysfromrolla.com/webtech/042606-1.shtml CREATE PROCEDURE [dbo].[usp_PageResults_NAI] ( @startRowIndex int, @maximumRows int ) AS DECLARE @first_id int, @startRow int -- A check can be added to make sure @startRowIndex isn't > count(1) -- from employees before doing any actual work unless it is guaranteed -- the caller won't do that -- Get the first employeeID for our page of records SET ROWCOUNT @startRowIndex SELECT @first_id = employeeID FROM employees ORDER BY employeeid -- Now, set the row count to MaximumRows and get -- all records >= @first_id SET ROWCOUNT @maximumRows SELECT e.*, d.name as DepartmentName FROM employees e INNER JOIN Departments D ON e.DepartmentID = d.DepartmentID WHERE employeeid >= @first_id ORDER BY e.EmployeeID SET ROWCOUNT 0 GO This method works great, however, is it possible to use this method and have dynamic field sorting? If we change this to SELECT e.*, d.name as DepartmentName FROM employees e INNER JOIN Departments D ON e.DepartmentID = d.DepartmentID WHERE employeeid >= @first_id ORDER BY e.FirstName DESC It breaks the sorting... Is there any way to combine this method of paging with the ability to sort on different fields?

  • SQL Server: One large persisted computed column for Fulltext Indexing

    - by Alex
    It appears to me as the easiest, most straightforward solution, but please correct me if I'm wrong. Instead of having a fulltext index on all individual columns of a table, isn't it better to just generate one single wide computed column and run the fulltext index against that only? It appears to me that it gets rid of all the issues of having multiple columns, incl. that I can't search "x AND y" as this will not match a row with "x" present in column 1 and "y" present in column 2. Any counterarguments?

  • Why does ANTLR not parse the entire input?

    - by Martin Wiboe
    Hello, I am quite new to ANTLR, so this is likely a simple question. I have defined a simple grammar which is supposed to include arithmetic expressions with numbers and identifiers (strings that start with a letter and continue with one or more letters or numbers.) The grammar looks as follows: grammar while; @lexer::header { package ConFreeG; } @header { package ConFreeG; import ConFreeG.IR.*; } @parser::members { } arith: term | '(' arith ( '-' | '+' | '*' ) arith ')' ; term returns [AExpr a]: NUM { int n = Integer.parseInt($NUM.text); a = new Num(n); } | IDENT { a = new Var($IDENT.text); } ; fragment LOWER : ('a'..'z'); fragment UPPER : ('A'..'Z'); fragment NONNULL : ('1'..'9'); fragment NUMBER : ('0' | NONNULL); IDENT : ( LOWER | UPPER ) ( LOWER | UPPER | NUMBER )*; NUM : '0' | NONNULL NUMBER*; fragment NEWLINE:'\r'? '\n'; WHITESPACE : ( ' ' | '\t' | NEWLINE )+ { $channel=HIDDEN; }; I am using ANTLR v3 with the ANTLR IDE Eclipse plugin. When I parse the expression (8 + a45) using the interpreter, only part of the parse tree is generated: http://imgur.com/iBaEC.png Why does the second term (a45) not get parsed? The same happens if both terms are numbers. Thank you, Martin Wiboe

  • sql locking on silverlight app

    - by immuner
    Hi, i am not sure if this is the correct term, but this is what id like to do: I have an application that uses a mssql database. This application can operate in 3 modes. mode 1) user does not alter, but only read the database mode 2) user can add rows (one at a time) onto a table in the database mode 3) user can alter several tables in the database (one person at a time) question 1) how can i ensure that when a user in in mode 3 that the database will "lock" and all logged in users who operate in mode 2 or mode 3 will not be able to change the database until he finishes? question 2) how can i ensure that while there are several users in mode 2, that there will be no conflict while they all update the table? my guess here, is that before adding a new row, you make a server query for the table's current unique keys and add the new entry. will this be safe enough though? Thanks
