  • ASP.NET MVC: Implementing an OpenID sign-in page ala NerdDinner v2

    - by pcampbell
Consider the log in page on NerdDinner.com: http://www.nerddinner.com/Account/LogOn Some nice features: jQuery effects on the OpenID choice popups for the other major providers Is this revision of the NerdDinner AccountController and its View available for public download? How would you reinvent this implementation? Any code you can post would be fine. Calling Jon Galloway!

  • Aletrnatives to MultiView in ASP.NET

    - by remdao
Hi The website I'm building contains a large number of views which will be displayed on the same place but hidden or shown according to how the user navigates the menu. It gets quite messy in visual studios design view when you have a MultiView with 10 different views in it. I've already separated the content of each view in several user controls. But is there an alternative to MultiView?

  • ASP.NET 2.0: Specifying an instance of an object for an ObjectDataSource

    - by Austin Salonen
I'm using an ObjectDataSource to bind data to a GridView; it works fine except that it always creates a new object to use as a data source. I can do all the setup just fine but I cannot use an instance of an existing object to specify as the "data source" for it. Is it possible to do this? If so, how? If it's not possible, why? EDIT: Here's the gist of what's going on (object types changed): On the first page you are editting the attributes for a dog. One of the attributes is "has puppies" and if it's true, the next page you specify the names of those puppies. What's happening in my case is that those puppies are not getting linked to the original dog but to a "new" dog. (The implication that my problem is a "female dog" was coincidental. ;-) )

  • Problem retrieving multiple instances of the same asp.net session variable

    - by sw1sh
I'm having problems with retrieving multiple instances of a session variable from an InProc session state. In the following code I persist a simple BusinessObject into a session variable on the Page_Load event. On the click of a button I try to retrieve the object back into 2 new declared instances of the same BusinessObject. All works great until I change one of the properties in the first instance, it changes the second instance as well. Is this normal behaviour? I would have thought as these were new instances they wouldn’t demonstrate static behaviour? Any ideas where I'm going wrong? Protected Sub Page_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load If Not Page.IsPostBack Then ' create a new instance of a business object and set a containg variable Dim BO As New BusinessObject BO.SomeVariable = "test" ' persist to inproc session Session("BO") = BO End If End Sub Protected Sub btnRetrieveSessionVariable_Click(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As EventArgs) Handles btnRetrieveSessionVariable.Click ' retrieve the session variable to a new instance of BusinessObject Dim BO1 As New BusinessObject If Not Session("BO") Is Nothing Then BO1 = Session("BO") ' retrieve the session variable to a new instance of BusinessObject Dim BO2 As New BusinessObject If Not Session("BO") Is Nothing Then BO2 = Session("BO") ' change the property value on the first instance BO1.SomeVariable = "test2" ' why has this changed on both instances? Dim strBO1Property As String = BO1.SomeVariable Dim strBO2Property As String = BO2.SomeVariable End Sub ' simple BusinessObject class Public Class BusinessObject Private _SomeVariable As String Public Property SomeVariable() As String Get Return _SomeVariable End Get Set(ByVal value As String) _SomeVariable = value End Set End Property End Class

  • Slow Execution of an ASP.NET Web Page

    - by Sweta Jha
I have a web page which brings 13K+ records in 20 seconds. There is a menu on the page, clicking on which navigates me to another page which is very lightweight. Displaying the data (13K+) took only 20 seconds whereas navigating from that page took much longer, more than 2 mins. Can you tell me why is the latter taking so much of time. I've stopped the page_load code execution on click of the menu. I've disabled the viewstate for that page as well.

  • ASP.NET MVC unit test controller with HttpContext

    - by user299592
I am trying to write a unit test for my one controller to verify if a view was returned properly, but this controller has a basecontroller that accesses the HttpContext.Current.Session. Everytime I create a new instance of my controller is calls the basecontroller constructor and the test fails with a null pointer exception on the HttpContext.Current.Session. Here is the code: public class BaseController : Controller { protected BaseController() { ViewData["UserID"] = HttpContext.Current.Session["UserID"]; } } public class IndexController : BaseController { public ActionResult Index() { return View("Index.aspx"); } } [TestMethod] public void Retrieve_IndexTest() { // Arrange const string expectedViewName = "Index"; IndexController controller = new IndexController(); // Act var result = controller.Index() as ViewResult; // Assert Assert.IsNotNull(result, "Should have returned a ViewResult"); Assert.AreEqual(expectedViewName, result.ViewName, "View name should have been {0}", expectedViewName); } Any ideas on how to mock the Session that is accessed in the base controller so the test in the descendant controller will run?

  • ASP.NET MVC Model Binding

    - by Noel
If i have a Controller Action that may recieve both HTTP GET and HTTP POST from a number of different sources with each source sending different data e.g. Source1 performs a form POST with two form items Item1 and Item2 Source2 performs a GET where the data is contained in the query string (?ItemX=2&ItemY=3) Is it possible to have a controller action that will cater for all these cases and perform binding automatically e.g. public ActionResult Test(Dictionary data) { // Do work ... return View(); } Is this possible with a custom binder or some other way? Dont want to work directly with HttpContext.Request if possible

  • asp.net mvc form add comment

    - by Pinu

  • help with jquery ajax and templates in asp.net mvc

    - by NachoF
So I have a complex form for an IncomeDeclaration. Its going to display a textfield GrossIncome for each Activity that the IncomeDeclaration is related to... this all gets done on the server and works just fine.... the problem is. The User should also be able to add Activities on the fly.. through javascript... so when the user clicks on Add Activity a Dropdown and a textfield must be appended to the bottom the activities list... heres what Ive got so far <tbody id="activities"> @Html.EditorFor(model => model.income.EconomicActivityIncomeDeclarations) </tbody> </table> <a href="#" id="add_activity">Agregar Otra Actividad</a> </fieldset> <script type="text/javascript"> $("#add_activity").click(function () { $.getJSON('/IncomeDeclarations/GetEconomicActivities', function (data) { var select = new Select(); var data = new Array(); for (var i = 0; i < data.length; i++) { var option = new Option(data[i]["name"], data[i]["i"]) //should do something here } //should call the template and append to #activities }); }); </script> <script id="template" type="text/x-jquery-tmpl"> <tr> <td><select name="income.EconomicActivityIncomeDeclarations[${SomeNumber}].EconomicActivityId"> ${MyOptions} </select></td> <td><input type="text" name="income.EconomicActivityIncomeDeclarations[${SomeNumber}].GrossIncome" /></td>> </tr> </script> } The name attribute for both the select and the text_field is key for this to work... otherwise modelbinding wont work... I would think that if the SomeNumber variable is set to new Date.GetTime() model Binding should work just fine... I actually dont see the need of ajax for this but thats another topic.. I just havent figured out a way to do this without ajax... right now I want to get the template to work and append the form elements to the bottom of the list.

  • ASP .NET MVC partial views and routing

    - by Johnny
Hi, I have an MVC view that contains a number of partial views. These partial views are populated using partial requests so the controller for the view itself doesn't pass any data to them. Is it possible to reload the data in one of those partial views if an action was triggered in another? For example, one partial view has a jqGrid and I want to refresh the data in another partial view when a user selects a new row in this grid. Is there a code example for this scenario (in C#) that I can look at to see what am I doing wrong? I am using ajax calls to trigger a new request but non of the partial views are refreshed so I am not sure if the issue is with the routing, the controller, or if this even possible at all! Thanks!

  • ASP.NET MVC - PartialView not refreshing

    - by Billy Logan
Hello Everyone, I have a view that uses a javascript callback to reload a partial view. For whatever reason the contents of the partial class do not refresh even though i can step through the entire process and see the page being recalled and populated. Any reason why the page would not display? Code is as follows: <div id="big_image_content"> <% Html.RenderPartial("ZoomImage", Model); %> </div> This link should reload the div above: <a href="javascript:void(0)" onclick="$('#big_image_content').load('/ShopDetai/ZoomImage);" title="<%= shape.Shape %>" alt="<%= shape.Shape %>"> <img src="http://images.rugs-direct.com/<%= shape.Image.ToLower() %>" width="40" alt="<%= shape.Shape %>"> </a> partial view(ZoomImage.ascx) simplified for now, but still doesn't load: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<RugsDirect.Data.ItemDetailsModel>" %> <%= Model.Category.ToLower()%> And finally the controller side of things: public ActionResult ZoomImage() { try { ItemDetailsModel model = GetMainImageContentModel(); return PartialView("ZoomImage", model); } catch (Exception ex) { //send the error email ExceptionPolicy.HandleException(ex, "Exception Policy"); //redirect to the error page return RedirectToAction("ViewError", "Shop"); } } Again, i can step through this entire process and all seems to be working accept for the page not reloading. I can even break on the <%= Model.Category.ToLower()% of the partial view, but it will not be displayed. Thanks in advance, Billy

  • IIS7 ASP.NET Session drops in seconds

    - by shxo
For testing I have 1 isolated page - no masters, controls, …. My sessions are lost after about 30 seconds. I’ve tried setting timeout on the page itself, in web.config, both, and neither. Tried forms authentication with timeout and windows authentication. Recycle the AppPool after changes. I can response.write from the Session_Start , but I never get any response.writes from the Session_End. Some things I’ve tried: <sessionState mode="InProc" stateConnectionString="tcpip=127.0.0.1:42424" sqlConnectionString="data source=127.0.0.1;" cookieless="false" timeout="20" /> <sessionState mode="InProc" cookieless="false" timeout="20"/> <sessionState mode="InProc" timeout="20"/> <sessionState timeout="20"/> No luck. My runtime is set to: <httpRuntime useFullyQualifiedRedirectUrl="true" maxRequestLength="204800" requestLengthDiskThreshold="204800" executionTimeout="600" /> I don’t know what this would be relevant, but I can’t think of anything else to post! Thanks!

  • ASP C# Web Developer default login, getting user ID session value

    - by m3n
I've used the built-in wizard in Visual Web Developer 2008 to create a simple login system. I'd like to get hold of the logged in user's ID, but I'm not sure how. Peeking in the ASPNETDB.MDF in the table aspnet_Users, the column appears to be called "UserId". I gave it a go: Response.Write("ID: " + Session["UserId"]); but it's coming up blank. How do I do this? (This is not for a live project, no need to point out the sillyness in using the wizard.) Thanks

  • PRG in ASP.NET MVC but with object data transferred to the redirected action

    - by mare
Following Post-Redirect-Get pattern as described in various spots but maybe in most detail here by Stephen Walter I want to use RedirectToAction but it does not accept a parameter for sending object to it. I can only send route values either as an object or as an RouteValueDictionary. So currently I send object ID and type and pull the object out of the datastore again in the action to which I redirected (like Results). // redirect to confirm view return RedirectToAction("ChangeSuccess", "Redirect", new { slug = tabgroup.Slug, contentType = tabgroup.ContentType }); But I would like to send an object there because I already have it in my updating controller action so I don't need to pull it out again. Is that possible somehow?

  • URLRewriter.net fails relative paths when using more than one substring in URL

    - by Andreas Strandfelt
Hi. I have installed the URLRewriter on my server, and it works fine, but I have a rather big problem. Relative links in hyperlinks, CSS-links, images etc. doesn't work when I have URLs with more than one substring. E.g. (sorry, no http:// in front, as I do not have enough reputation): dkbyg.strandweb.dk/Leje-og-udlejning-arbejdskraft leads to the path dkbyg.strandweb.dk/Workers.aspx and works just fine. But dkbyg.strandweb.dk/Leje-og-udlejning-arbejdskraft/Midtjylland leads to dkbyg.strandweb.dk/Workers.aspx?Region=Midtjylland using this line in the Web.config: <rewrite url="~/Leje-og-udlejning-arbejdskraft/(.+)" to="~/Workers.aspx?Region=$1"/> It rewrites just fine, but my relative links doesn't work anymore. CSS, Images, links and so on thinks my root is now http://dkbyg.strandweb.dk/Leje-og-udlejning-arbejdskraft, which of course doesn't exist. Can't this be fixed? All my links are correctly set using the ~/, like this: <asp:HyperLink ID="HyperLink3" CssClass="black_text" NavigateUrl="~/Forgot-Password" runat="server">I have forgotten my password</asp:HyperLink>

  • ASP.NET Page Caching in a Web Farm

    - by Achilles
We have a small web farm(2 servers) balanced by the built in network load balancer in Windows 2003. We have a few pages that use page caching. My question is: Is it possible that that a given user could cause a page to be cached and another user see that content? Here is the page directive for the page in question: <%@ OutputCache Duration="1" NoStore="true" VaryByParam="none" %> The reason the duration is set to "1" is to ensure that the page isn't cached any longer than 1 second because of transactions that actions on the page can trigger.

  • Upload large files in .NET

    - by Austin
I've done a good bit of research to find an upload component for .NET that I can use to upload large files, has a progress bar, and can resume the upload of large files. I've come across some components like AjaxUploader, SlickUpload, and PowUpload, to name a few. Each of these options cost money and only PowUpload does the resumable upload, but it does it with a java applet. I'm willing to pay for a component that does those things well, but if I could write it myself that would be best. I have two questions: Is it possible to resume a file upload on the client without using flash/java/Silverlight? Does anyone have some code or a link to an article that explains how to write a .NET HTTPHandler that will allow streaming upload and an ajax progress bar? Thank you, Austin [Edit] I realized I do need to be able to do resumable file uploads for my project, any suggestions for components that can do that?
