  • Web Based School/College ERP

    - by Ashok
We are planning to build a Web Based School/College ERP. The main problem we face is Hardware support. Since it is Web Based, it is not possible to implement Biometrics. But most of our clients do ask for Biometrics. I hope we need to use a desktop application to do that. Can you please give some suggestions for this? Another thing is, here we don't have stable internet connection. We frequently face disconnection. This is another problem for Web Based CRM. In HTML5 there is a feature called Offline storage. Is it possible to use this feature for such dynamic ERP? For example, let's say we need to enter marks for the students. Net got disconnected. Is it possible to use HTML5 offline feature to save the marks offline and upload them when we got connection back?

  • Looking for PHP/MySQL-based ad manager

    - by user359650
Could you recommend based on your experience a PHP/MySQL-based admin interface for managing your website ads? In order to be really useful, such application should have: -basic CRM functionality to track who is providing the ads -multilingual multi country support: have the ability to specify for the same ad, different versions for multiple languages/countries -predefined ad formats (google Ads, flash ads...) and sizes with corresponding PHP helpers so as to insert in the HTML code the necessary markup to properly integrate the ad. Ideally if that application could be desgined for Zend Framework that would be awesome (but I think I'm dreaming at this point).

  • client website compromised, found a strange .php file. any ideas?

    - by Kevin Strong
I do support work for a web development company and I found a suspicious file today on the website of one of our clients called "hope.php" which contained several eval(gzuncompress(base64_decode('....'))) commands (which on a site like this, usually indicates that they've been hacked). Searching for the compromised site on google, we got a bunch of results which link to hope.php with various query strings that seem to generate different groups of seo terms like so: (the second result from the top is legitimate, all the rest are not) Here is the source of "hope.php": http://pastebin.com/7Ss4NjfA And here is the decoded version I got by replacing the eval()s with echo(): http://pastebin.com/m31Ys7q5 Any ideas where this came from or what it is doing? I've of course already removed the file from the server, but I've never seen code like this so I'm rather curious as to its origin. Where could I go to find more info about something like this?

  • Moving OVD from Test to Production

    - by mark.wilcox
Customer asked support "How to move a test OVD server to production". There is a couple of ways to do this. One way is to clone the environment: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E15523_01/core.1111/e10105/testprod.htm#CH... Another way - which is particularly useful if you want to push configuration from a parent OVD server to children in a cluster: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/oid.1111/e10046/basic_server_set... Note if you use the second option and you have any data in a Local Store Adapter - you may also need to use the oidcmprec tool to synchronize that data: http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E14571_01/oid.1111/e10029/replic_mng_mon.h... • What options should I consider for a modern Web/Mobile development stack? [on hold]

    - by jimmy_terra
I'm a long time server side dev who has been tasked with building a bleeding edge web UI (go figure), so apologies for the very broad nature of the question. What are the best modern libraries, tools, languages and patterns for building a dynamic web application that will run seamlessly on mobiles also? My requirements are that it must be dynamic (push updates), support automated testing, and should allow 'componentization' (a team of devs will be working on this). What should I check out and why? I will start off with some of the things I'm looking at already: Front-end HTML5 CSS3 JavaScript AngularJs Testing Karma Testem Jasmine Patterns Single Page Applications

  • "A good programmer can be as 10+ times more productive than a mediocre one"

    - by m3th0dman
I had read an interview with a great programmer (it is not in English) and in it he said that "a great programmer can be as 100 times as good as a mediocre one" giving reason for why good programmers are very well paid and why programming companies give many facilities for their employees. The idea was that there is a very large demand for good programmers, because of the above reason and that's why companies pay very much to bring them. Do you agree with this statement? Do you know any objective facts that could support it? Edit: The question has nothing to do with experience; if you talk about one great programmer with 1 year experience then s/he should be 10 times more productive than a mediocre programmer with 1 year experience. I agree that from certain experience years onwards, things start to dissipate but that's not the purpose of the question.

  • C# Rendering Engine for Roguelike [closed]

    - by Haedrian
I'm trying my hand at designing a roguelike, and I need a pretty simple 2D rendering engine that works with C# Its as simple as it gets, I want to be able to drop sprites somewhere on a grid, with some sort of menus/text on the side; that sort of thing. The (very complicated) game itself would be decoupled from the interface I've looked into a number of engines and they all seem to be very complicated/support much more things than I need. Right now I'm planning on making my own using either XNA or OpenTK - but I was wondering whether anyone has any suggestions for less-complicated rendering engines which might make my job easier. Thanks.

  • How To Purchase An MSDN License In India [closed]

    - by Subhash
I need to purchase a single license for Visual Studio Professional with MSDN. The MSDN buy site (http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/subscriptions/bb841434.aspx) does not allow purchases from India. It directs Indians to purchase from resellers. I contacted Microsoft and they sent me a link to a list of resellers http://www.microsoft.com/india/originalsoftware/business/retailStore1.aspx Many of these resellers do not even have a website. Many of them do not exist at the addresses mentioned (they have moved). Microsoft support personnel also seem very cagey about releasing any information. They do not even read the mail. They simply resend their canned response with the same link. There are many resellers (not mentioned in the microsoft page) who are selling MSDN subscriptions. Are they legitimate? Here is one site: http://www.aditicomputers.com/developers-software/microsoft-visual-studio-2010-professional-with-msdn.aspx How do Indian developers purchase MSDN?

  • Should I use a unit testing framework to validate XML documents?

    - by christofr
From http://www.w3.org/XML/Schema: [XML Schemas] provide a means for defining the structure, content and semantics of XML documents. I'm using an XML Schema (XSD) to validate several large XML documents. While I'm finding plenty of support within XSD for checking the structure of my documents, there are no procedural if/else features that allow me to say, for instance, If Country is USA, then Zipcode cannot be empty. I'm comfortable using unit testing frameworks, and could quite happily use a framework to test content integrity. Am I asking for trouble doing it this way, rather than an alternative approach? Has anybody tried this with good / bad results? -- Edit: I didn't include this information to keep it technology agnostic, but I would be using C# / Linq / xUnit for deserialization / testing.

  • Auto-provisioning hosting via API

    - by user101289
I've built a sort of 'software as a service' website package for a specific industry. What I am looking to do is create a payment gateway that allows users to subscribe-- and once the subscription is active, it would auto-provision a web hosting plan for them (a shared account on a server, probably in a chroot'd environment so each user would be insulated from others). Ideally it would auto-install a CMS as well. Tons of web hosts provide a simple reseller plan where I could manually create all the users' hosting accounts-- but so far none that I've found allow you to do this via API. Is there a way to do this short of writing custom shell scripts on something like an EC2 platform? I'd prefer to leave all the server maintenance in the hands of dedicated support staff rather than having to manually handle updates, backups, etc. Thanks for any tips.

  • Google I/O 2012 - Navigation in Android

Google I/O 2012 - Navigation in Android Adam Powell, Richard Fulcher An app is useless if people can't find their way around it. Android introduced big navigation-support changes in 3.0 and 4.0. The Action Bar offers a convenient control for Up navigation, the Back key's behavior became more consistent within tasks, and the Recent Tasks UI got an overhaul. • How to deal with "software end-of-life" situations?

    - by rwong
When a vendor declares that they no longer intend to provide any support or services to a piece of software (and stated the intent to exit the business - offering no upgrade paths), and stated that customers must pay a nominal fee in order to have the existing data exported, what kind of recourse do programmers/customers have? Things I can think of: Need to purchase spare hardware and set up a spare environment on which the software can continue to operate. Various data export methods which do not require vendor involvement. (For example, screen scraping, printing to image followed by re-scanning, etc) Parallel systems where staff will duplicate the old data into a new system manually or semi-automatically Legal means, in case the vendor is in financial trouble Any other ideas? Assuming that there is no "circumvention" involved (no DRM, no DMCA), is data recovery or reverse engineering legal/acceptable?

  • Share buttons vs sharer urls

    - by TeeOh
As some people might know, adding share buttons from Facebook and Twitter can cause a page to slow down. I've seen many sites pass on the common iframe implementations that these sites offer and simply create icons that link to a sharer url for better control of page performance. http://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cnn.com%2F&t=CNN%26s+website%27 However, I've also read that Facebook is dropping support for these links. For example, this link now redirects to the Like Button. http://www.facebook.com/facebook-widgets/share.php Here is an article noting that Facebook is deprecating/has deprecated it's share functionality and is sticking with the Like button. http://www.barbariangroup.com/posts/7544-the_facebook_share_button_has_been_deprecated_called_it I'm assuming this is the same for the sharing url. If the sharer url is no longer a reliable option, what other methods are there besides using 3rd party widgets (like Addthis)?

  • Alternatives to voxel-based terrain

    - by Neomex
Are there any alternatives to voxel based terrains? Such terrain should be fully destructable, allow for arches, overhangs, preserve sharp features where needed and keep consistent topology. Maybe you can explain the problem that makes you ask this question? Voxel based terrain is basically just using a 3D grid of data to store data. There are lots of ways to render that data, but it doesn't get much simpler for storing it. – Byte56 Current isosurface extraction methods aren't most effective/bug-free. Cubical Marching Squares seem to solve most of the issues, however it is a relatively new method and there aren't too many resources about it. (I've found single university paper) Even if we stick to CMS, when we want to add multi-material support, we can either divide surface into multiple meshes, or pass a texture array or texture atlas to shaders, then we are limited to set amount of textures and additionally increase memory-usage alot.

  • uswsusp won't hibernate with freeplane and some websites open

    - by Richard
I installed uswsusp on my laptop to hibernate faster, which works most of the time, but whenever I have freeplane (and some websites in firefox...can't recall which ones but can probably find some) it fails. In order to hibernate, I have to resort to closing the offending program or webpage - but this kinda ruins the point of hibernating... It fails when I try sudo s2disk in a terminal with freeplane open, but strangely works with sudo s2ram --force. When it fails, it simply switches to the black screen with s2disk: Snapshotting system but then returns to the login screen. When I enter my password, the hibernating indicator continues flashing but goes back to the desktop I left when trying to hibernate. When it works, it works as expected from hibernate, shutdown and resume. I saw another thread discuss fglrx modules and to include it in MODULE="fglrx" in /etc/default/acpi-support, but that hasn't helped me. I'm using Ubuntu 11.10 with an ATI graphics card on an Acer Aspire 6920.

  • Should I choose 10.04 LTS or 10.10?

    - by torbengb
I'm new to Ubuntu (and Linux) but I want to give it a go. I've spent a few evenings trying to get 10.10 to run but I think my nVidia 8400 GS is causing trouble; only recovery mode with failsafeX gets me to the desktop (low-res but seems to be fully functional otherwise). Given that the xx.04 vesions are long-term support, I'm wondering whether it would be smarter for me to use that. I don't need to be on the cutting edge - I prefer to have a system that just works, long-term. Later I hope to move my media center and wife's netbook over too. Question: Why should I (not?) choose the 10.04 LTS version over the newest 10.10 version?
