I clicked on something and now all my windows have a black boundary around them whenever I focus on it. This happens on menu bar items as well when in focus. How do I remove it?

What are the new shortcuts for Windows 8?
There are lots of new UI elements in Windows 8 such as the 'Charms Bar' and the fact that the Desktop is treated as an app.
Some elements are easier than others to access on a non-touch screen enabled device such as a standard desktop PC or laptop equipped with a keyboard and mouse.
What are some useful shortcut keys that utilise the Windows Key (Win) to make using Windows 8 easier via a keyboard and mouse?
I have iGoogle as my home page. Every time that I start up Firefox with the intent to go to a specific page, I end up typing half the URL in the Google search box when iGoogle steals focus away from the URL bar. Is there any way to hack Firefox (or iGoogle) to keep the page from stealing my cursor on load? Thanks!
I just installed postgresql onto an ubuntu box.
How can I create user foo with password bar and database baz, so that foo owns baz?
foo is not a unix user.
I just got a Macbook Air and the differences in color between it and my 2009 iMac are driving me crazy. I know there were certain iMac models from that period with yellow tinting issues, but I did the gray bar tests and that doesn't appear to be the issue. (No hardware issue suspected)
However, my iMacs tones are more yellow prone than the macbook and I was wondering how to collaborate these two devices better for design work.
My terminal window in mac is showing login and not bash. The terminal window with login title works like notepad,i want to change back to bash .How can i do that ?please help me out.thanks.
By default (at least in my installation), pinned items on the taskbar will be "icon only" when they have no active windows, but when there are active window, the icon expanded to include text (typically some portion of the title text).
I'm looking for a way to either:
A (preferred option):
For any single pinned item, force this pinned item to always display as just the icon even if it has active windows.
OR
B (acceptable option):
Force ALL pinned items to always display as icon only in the taskbar
Is there a program which lets you easily get the x,y coordinates for your cursor?
Basically, I move my cursor to somewhere on my screen, it shows me the x,y coordinates and has an option to copy them to the clipboard or export them somehow.
I can already do this if I take a screenshot and open it in MS Paint, then as I move the mouse cursor over the screenshot it shows the coordinates in the status bar, however I have to manually write them down, hence its not convenient.
I've tried converting a PEM-encoded key to DER format, and it appears the password is stripped regardless of the -passout argument.
Example:
openssl rsa -in tmp.pem -outform DER -out tmp.der -passin pass:foo -passout pass:bar -des3
The resulting key appears no longer password-protected, so I am assuming that DER format does not support a password - is that correct?
What alternative way is there to store this in a compact, binary form, and keep the password-protection?
Does anyone know if it's possible (or know of an existing vim script or plugin) that can create a "status bar" that shows the name of the current class and method (or function) I'm editing?
I'm imagining that it would plug into the syntax parser for the filetype of the current buffer, and display a breadcrumb trail to show you what you're currently editing. I don't know vimscript well enough to suggest any more than that, but if there aren't any good solutions already, I may begin to hack on one, so suggestions as to where to start are welcome, too!
Since a few months ago I've struggling to find a good source explaning how to have my website logo on the facebook apps I attach on my website.
In the link bellow (grabbed from facebook website) we can see a fair example of a Share app, with logo, title and description.
https://www.facebook.com/sharer/sharer.php?u=https://parse.com
I already completed app's profile with all kinds of information the forms have.
What do I need to do to show my logo on facebook apps?
Best wishes,
Iuri
If I screw up typing a URL, my ISP shoots me over to their branded search page. So if I type "superuser" in my location bar I end up at http://domainnotfound.optimum.net/cablevassist/dnsassist/main/?domain=superuser
I'd like my browser to leave the location the way it was and just say "nothing doing," rather than redirecting me to a search.
Can I override that in my own /etc/hosts or at my router?
Is it possible to simulate a MAC feature which shows the list of active windows when we move the mouse sideways ?
Also is there is a possiblity to toggle between windows with same title ? like if i have 2-3 chrome open . can i toggle betwen them ?
As the subject title says, has anyone any suggestions for how to achieve smooth scrolling of the text display in emacs?
The various approaches suggested on the Emacs wiki seem to work only in Linux. I'm using EmacsW32 for what it matters, but I tested with the standard Emacs distribution as well, with no results.
As a long time Vim user, I'm fairly surprised that Emacs cannot scroll smoothly by itself.
When I want to download something in Safari, like http://foo.com/bar.zip, all I have to do is paste that link into the dowloads window. Is there a way to do this in Chrome?
I've gotten used to Safari, hitting cmd-alt-L (dowloads window), and then pasting. It's quick, neat, and saves me going to FileSave As...
I like to keep my hands on the keyboard, so if there is a quick way to do this without using a mouse, that's my ideal solution.
The title says it all. I'm interested in replacing a Windows file server with a Linux Samba file server, but the caveat is that share/folder permissions must be preserved. We'd be using the new active directory authentication in Samba, so the two servers would at least be in the same domain to make things a little simpler, and all the users/groups are domain-level users/groups. Does anyone know if this is possible?
I have an image sequence (10 images) that step by step visualize the construction of something. I'd like to include these images into my powerpoint presentation in such a way that i can step between them by moving a slider below the image, similar to the timebar of a movie player (in quicktime for example you can step through a move file frame by frame by moving the bar on the bottom).
What's the easiest way to do this with Microsoft Powerpoint 2010?
The title says it all...I upgraded today and can no longer scroll vertically with my touchpad. I'm really missing that feature since it helps to ease the RSI on my right index finger. How do I re-enable it?
I am build a bar chart in Excel with data values ranging from e.g. 10 to 20. I want the X axis limits to be automatic, but although the right limit (near 20) works correctly, the left limit always defaults to 0.
I'd like the left limit to be near 10, instead of zero, without having to have the limit fixed. Is there any way to do this?
When using a browser like Firefox I need that any url of the domain example.com to have appended the port :8008. Not only when I type it at address bar but any where it is referenced within the served html page. All the other domains should be left as is.
I know I can setup a proxy like Squid or use a pac file in a web site but I want it simpler if possible.
I recently upgraded my Windows 7 to Windows 8 successfully. Other application are working perfectly except wampserver. When I double click on the desk top icon, it shows red on the tray bar and then the color changes but when I click Start All Services, nothing happens. Localhost does not open in webbrowser. Skype is not running on my computer, i don't know if there is other application using the same port in Win8. Please help!
The title says it all: I have a machine that has several partitions. I'd like to back it all up (preferably as a single image) and restore it to a single partition/maybe LVM. I've run into more and more trouble with the choice of partition sizes and decided it wasn't worth the trouble.
The folder pane in Thunderbird used to have a left and right arrow that allowed switching between the folders displayed. However, since a week or so, the arrows are gone (update? miss-clicked something?)
As I use them several times a day: how can I get the arrows back? I have Thunderbird 8.0.
Note: I know, switching is also accessible via the menu bar View Folders, but this is too much clicks for me.
