  • Proxy to restrict access to certain websites

    - by ChrisRamakers
Hi all, I'm looking for a solution that allows our office server to function as a proxy that blocks access to certain websites for certain LAN ip's. The solution i'm looking for has to meet these requirements: run on ubuntu server restrict access to certain websites based on a LAN ip (eg: shut out xxx.com for 192.168.1.152) restrict access to a website based on the website url (eg: shut out *.facebook.com) easily configurable (preferably through a web interface, our office manager should be able to operate it thus no commandline fu if possible) preferably opensource Thanks for your time!

Currently I have 3 nginx workers, Keep-alive time out 15 seconds and and PHP_FCGI_CHILDREN=5 PHP_FCGI_MAX_REQUESTS=1000 I really appreciate if you Can you suggest a solution to this annoying problem.

  • I've set an editor as default, how do I call it to open files in a shell?

    - by iight
EDIT I thought of a better way to phrase the question. How can I find the alias that Ubuntu is using for a different text editor? Rather than using nano by typing nano file.txt, i'd like to be able to type sublime file.txt to open sublime editor. I don't know where to look to find these aliases. sudo update-alternatives --config editor does not show it as a choice, I only see the 'default' editors, like Nano and vim.tiny.

  • Access ReverseProxy from iframe only

    - by soundsofpolaris
I have OwnCloud setup and it has a feature called External Site. It loads a site in an iframe, so you can stay in the websites shell. I have a page running on a reverse proxy. Is there anyway to only allow the OwnCloud page to access the reverse proxy while blocking any other connections to it? So in this situation, the OwnCloud site is publically accessible but I don't want the reverse proxy to be. On apache2, Ubuntu 14.04, own cloud 7

  • libpam-ldapd not looking for secondary groups

    - by Jorge Suárez de Lis
I'm migrating from libpam-ldap to libpam-ldapd. I'm having some trouble gathering the secondary groups from LDAP. On libpam-ldap, I had this on the /etc/ldap.conf file: nss_schema rfc2307bis nss_base_passwd ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es nss_base_shadow ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es nss_base_group ou=Groups,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es nss_map_attribute uniqueMember member The mapping is there because I'm using groupOfNames instead of groupOfUniqueNames LDAP class for groups, so the attribute naming the members is named member instead of uniqueMember. Now, I want to do the same using libpam-ldapd but I can't get it to work. Here's the relevant part of my /etc/nslcd.conf: base passwd ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es base shadow ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es base group ou=Groups,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es map group uniqueMember member And this is the debug output from nslcd, when a user is authenticated: nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: connection from pid=12090 uid=0 gid=0 nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: nslcd_passwd_byuid(4004) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: myldap_search(base="ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es", filter="(&(objectClass=posixAccount)(uidNumber=4004))") nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_initialize(ldap://172.16.54.31/) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_rebind_proc() nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_PROTOCOL_VERSION,3) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_DEREF,0) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMELIMIT,10) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_NETWORK_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_REFERRALS,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_RESTART,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_simple_bind_s("uid=ubuntu,ou=Applications,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es","*****") (uri="ldap://172.16.54.31/") nslcd: [8b4567] connected to LDAP server ldap://172.16.54.31/ nslcd: [8b4567] DEBUG: ldap_result(): end of results nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: connection from pid=15906 uid=0 gid=2000 nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: nslcd_pam_authc("jorge.suarez","","su","***") nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: myldap_search(base="ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es", filter="(&(objectClass=posixAccount)(uid=jorge.suarez))") nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_initialize(ldap://172.16.54.31/) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_rebind_proc() nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_PROTOCOL_VERSION,3) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_DEREF,0) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMELIMIT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_NETWORK_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_REFERRALS,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_RESTART,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_simple_bind_s("uid=ubuntu,ou=Applications,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es","*****") (uri="ldap://172.16.54.31/") nslcd: [7b23c6] connected to LDAP server ldap://172.16.54.31/ nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_initialize(ldap://172.16.54.31/) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_rebind_proc() nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_PROTOCOL_VERSION,3) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_DEREF,0) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMELIMIT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_NETWORK_TIMEOUT,10) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_REFERRALS,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_set_option(LDAP_OPT_RESTART,LDAP_OPT_ON) nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_simple_bind_s("uid=jorge.suarez,ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es","*****") (uri="ldap://172.16.54.31/") nslcd: [7b23c6] connected to LDAP server ldap://172.16.54.31/ nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: myldap_search(base="uid=jorge.suarez,ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es", filter="(objectClass=posixAccount)") nslcd: [7b23c6] DEBUG: ldap_unbind() nslcd: [3c9869] DEBUG: connection from pid=15906 uid=0 gid=2000 nslcd: [3c9869] DEBUG: nslcd_pam_sess_o("jorge.suarez","uid=jorge.suarez,ou=People,ou=CITIUS,dc=inv,dc=usc,dc=es","su","/dev/pts/7","","jorge.suarez") It seems to me that it won't even try to look for groups. What I am doing wrong? I can't see anything relevant to my problem information on the docs. I'm probably not understanding how the map option works.

  • Apache and file permissions

    - by Matthew
I'm running LAMP on Ubuntu 8.04. Apache's username and group are www-data. I put my connection details and AES key in a file in a directory that's not web served. I chown-ed the files to www-data:www-data and set the permissions to 700. Still, the script that require()s these files will only run if I chmod the files to 755. What am I missing?

  • LTSP keeping sessions active whilst turning off thin clients

    - by map7
I'm using LTSP on a Ubuntu 10.04 64bit box with 8 thin clients. I would like to save power by automatically turning off the thin clients at night, but I would like to have the ability to resume the staff's session in the morning. Is it possible to keep a session running whilst turning off the LTSP thin client and resuming that session when you power up the thin client the next time? Could this work if you login to another thin client in the morning and resume your session?

Hello everyone! I want my server to send me email alerts every time it does things such as run a backup. I have tried to setup programs like Sendmail, Postfix, etc on my Ubuntu Server box and it is really a pain for me to get it working. Is there any online service or some easy gateway where my server can send email alerts? If not, is there any easy scripts to get a Linux mail program up and running? Thanks

  • How can I open a file whose name starts with "-"?

    - by PJ
I am running Ubuntu, and would like to open a file whose file name starts with "-"(minus). When I try to open the file with pico or vim, the command thinks that the "-" sign is an option for the command. I tried enclosing the file name with quotes ('), but I still get the same error. I tried with bash and zsh, but still the same error.

  • netstat -ntap doesn't show pid/process name for some connections?

    - by depesz
I have ubuntu/hardy server, with kernel 2.6.24-23-server and netstat: # netstat --version net-tools 1.60 netstat 1.42 (2001-04-15) The problem is that we have a lot of ESTABLISHED connections that don't show PID nor Program name in netstat -ntap output. Netstat was called from root, there are no chroots, grsecurity, nor anything like this (or so I was told :). Any idea on what might be wrong? UPDATE lsof -n -i works ok, and shows pid/process name for the connections.

  • Flash video has become jittery in Karmic

    - by creamcheese
When I first installed Karmic, I must have installed a Flash player or else it came with Karmic. It worked fine and I have been running the Ubuntu updates whenever requested by the OS. However, now my Flash video is extremely jittery and the whole computer kinds of slows down whenever I try to play a Flash video file. I have no idea what type of Flash player is running or what is the best one to use. Would appreciate any recommendations. Thanks.

  • Can't install "Docky" theme?

    - by Earl Larson
So to install a theme for Docky on Ubuntu I had to extract the theme from the Archive Manager via root to /usr/local/share/docky/themes. I did this but it didn't show up in the theme choices. Then I tried just pressing the install button and locating it but I couldn't see the tar file. I then extracted the tar file to the desktop and tried selecting that to install but nothing. What am I doing wrong!?

  • NetworkManager applet looks like it can't see network

    - by amorfis
My system is Ubuntu 9.04. There is NetworkManager applet, but it looks like there are no networks. When I click it, there is disabled menu "Wired Network/device not managed". I have working eth0 interface, internet is working fine and I can see eth0 in ifconfig When I right-click and choose "Edit connections", there is only "Auto vboxnet0" under "Wired" tab. No "eth0". It shouldn't be a problem, but I cannot connect to VPN because of this :(
